BOSTON —

All five candidates in Massachusetts special U.S. Senate race are suspending their campaigns following the explosion of two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon that killed three and injured more than 100.

Democrat Edward Markey said he was disturbed and saddened by the explosions and has put off campaign activities including fundraising and television advertisements.

Republicans Daniel Winslow said his heart goes out to the injured and he's also ordered his campaign to suspend all activities.

Fellow Republican Michael Sullivan canceled all campaign activities for the day and said he was confident law enforcement officials would find those responsible.

Republican Gabriel Gomez was running in the race, and tweeted his prayers were with all the runners and spectators. He's also suspending his campaign.

Democrat Stephen Lynch also suspended campaigning. He called the explosions a terrible tragedy and said his prayers were with the injured.
