THE TALE OF odd-couple romance never grows old. Maybe that's one reason "Beauty & the Beast," based on the Disney animated film, has been playing Broadway for more than 12 years. The Theater of the Stars' production of "Beast" begins its run at the Fox Theatre on Sept. 5. With vibrant costumes, song and dance, the lovely free-spirited Belle finds herself trapped in the castle of the cantankerous Beast. But Belle eventually falls for the big fur ball. For us, the relationship brings to mind a few interesting celebrity pairings.

DITA VON TEESE AND MARILYN MANSON

Burlesque performer and Playboy cover girl Von Teese looks like a '50s pinup come to life. In Dec. 2005, she took the walk with creepy rocker Manson, who resembles an androgynous nightmare. The couple traded "I dos" in Ireland.

HEATHER LOCKLEAR AND DAVID SPADE

These days, Locklear seems to prefer one-liners to rock 'n' roll. Having been married to larger-than-life musicians Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) and Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe), she's currently dating smart-aleck funny man David Spade.

MICHAEL JACKSON AND LISA MARIE PRESLEY

When the King of Pop married the daughter of the King of Rock in 1994, the surprise nuptials made headlines. Despite a much-publicized smooch on MTV, many skeptics called the union a publicity stunt. The couple divorced in 1996, less than two years later.

MARILYN MONROE AND ARTHUR MILLER

It made sense when the iconic sexpot wed baseball star Joe DiMaggio. But bookish playwrights blew her skirt up, too. Her next hubby was Arthur Miller, who wrote the screenplay for her film "The Misfits," which co-starred Clark Gable. The couple divorced in 1961, the same year the movie was released.

JULIA ROBERTS AND LYLE LOVETT

Not necessarily the portrait of a leading man, musician Lovett scored points for regular guys everywhere when he married pretty woman Julia Roberts in 1993. But the glory was short lived. The couple parted ways in 1995.

FLAVOR FLAV AND BRIGITTE NIELSEN

While on celebrity reality-show "The Surreal Life," the short and skinny Public Enemy rapper fell head over clock for the tall and buxom Danish D-lister. Soon Flav and Nielsen were starring in their own follow-up series, "Strange Love." But the love connection didn't stick. Nielsen married her fifth husband Mattia Dessi in July.
