You can clean out your closet, feel green and make art all at the same time this weekend at Gallery Stokes in Castleberry Hill.
Stuart Keeler is the artist/curator behind an event he's dubbed "Social Exchange," which will essentially turn the gallery into a clothing swap shop. It will be open during the Castleberry 4th Friday Art Stroll and again Saturday. Visitors are invited to bring in clean articles of clothing or accessories to trade for items others have brought.
| In addition to the 'Social Exchange,' you can view other exhibits at Castleberry, like this Emily Maxwell drawing called 'The Physical Manifestations of Stress.' | |||

Keeler describes his project variously as a social experiment, a participatory performance and a model of sustainability. Any items left over will be given to a charity.
Before you ask the inevitable "is this art?" question, consider this: Shopping, like art, has become a cultural pastime. The store, like the gallery, is a setting for social interaction. Art, like clothing, is a commodity, and often a trophy.
However you look at it, it could be a hoot. And who knows what goodies you might walk away with?
Friday night is also a good time to check out the many new galleries that have joined the Castleberry stalwarts in this ever-livelier district. Galleries are open 7-10 p.m. Complete information and a downloadable map of galleries, restaurants and stores can be found online at www.castleberryhill.org.
