The Pan African Film Festival, the cinematic component of the National Black Arts Festival, will screen more than 50 films Friday through July 27 at the Woodruff Arts Center's Rich Theatre.
Among the first films: "El Benny" (7:20 p.m. Friday), an explosion of music from Cuba about real-life bandleader Benny Moré (played by Cuban actor Remy Arozarena).

Among other films we can recommend: the Canadian boxing film "Poor Boy's Game" (8:25 p.m. July 26) with Danny Glover and Rossif Sutherland; the child abuse drama "Something is Killing Tate" (8:20 p.m. July 25) with Jocko Sims; and "Ezra" (10:15 p.m. July 27), a violent tale of child soldiering in Africa.
Among special events: A conversation with Oscar nominee Spike Lee and author James McBride about Lee's upcoming World War II drama "Miracle at St. Anna." (2:40 p.m. Saturday)
Among films not prescreened by the AJC: "Namibia: The Struggle for Liberation" (7 p.m. Sunday), "Black in America: The Black Man" (9 p.m. Thursday) and the underground hip-hop documentary "This is the Life" (8:15 p.m. July 25).
DISCO CINEMA
Get your rollerskates on. The Plaza's next Summer Camp film is 1980's "Xanadu" with Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. www.plazaatlanta.com
FILM LOVE SERIES
Under the banner "The Trick of Disaster," Eyedrum's Film Love series will screen Buster Keaton's "One Week" (1920) and Peter Fischl and David Weiss' "The Way Things Go" (1987) at 8 p.m. July 25. www.eyedrum.org
UNDER THE STARS
Star 94's annual free Movies Under the Stars is under way with outdoor screenings in various parts of metro Atlanta. Movies begin at sundown (around
8:30 p.m.). Next up: "The Princess Bride" on Saturday at Duluth's Town Green.
Among future films: "Nim's Island" on July 26 at Powder Springs' Taylor Farm Park; "Horton Hears a Who!" on Aug. 2 at Kennesaw's Swift-Cantrell Park; and "Juno" on Sept. 13 at Oglethorpe University's Academic Quad.
Films will be named later for Aug. 23 and Sept. 20. www.star94.com

Peachtree City's free Golf Cart Drive-in Movie series continues July 26 with a screening of "Horton Hears a Who!" on a 20-foot screen 10 minutes after sunset (around 9:05 p.m.) in the parking lot of Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center, 2443 Ga. 54 West.
