'America I AM' extended through Sept. 27
African-American history exhibit continues at Civic Center
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If you've been meaning all summer to see the exhibit "America I Am: The African American Imprint," you've got some breathing room.
The Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center show, which was to have closed Sunday, has been extended three weeks, through Sept. 27. Organizers said the extension was to accommodate public demand and requests to continue it into the school year, but declined to release attendance figures.
The brainstorm of PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley, "America I Am" presents more than 200 historic objects, documents and photos and employs multimedia across 12 galleries to explore how African-Americans have contributed to American culture.
Tickets (purchased for a specific date), available at Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com or 1-800-745-3000), are $12 for adults; $5, ages 4-17; $8, 65 and up. Discounted tickets ($10, adult; $4, child) are available at Walmart stores throughout Georgia.
On a 10-city, four-year tour, the exhibit premiered at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center and moved to Atlanta. Its next stop is Los Angeles.
