The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Atlanta artist Chris Lewis is a recovering mom. That's because her son Hayes, 25, is a recovering heroin addict.

They'll both be in attendance at Wednesday's reception for an exhibit of her figurative clay sculptures inspired by his addiction at Georgia Perimeter College's Clarkston campus.

"He and we are very proud of his sobriety, and that's what his attendance is about," says Lewis, 60, of her son, who has been "on and off in recovery" for nearly four years. "He wants people to see that this disease can be controlled."

Works from Lewis' "Addiction" series also can be viewed on her Web site: www.chrislewissculpture.com (click: Galleries).

"Forces of Nature"

Sculpture by Chris Lewis, paintings by Val Koonce. Reception 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Jim Cherry Learning Resource Center Gallery, Georgia Perimeter College, 555 N. Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston. Through March 4. www.gpc.edu (click: Events)
