The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Atlanta retro funk D.J. Romeo Cologne, who sent friends and family into a frantic tailspin after posting a "farewell" message on his Facebook page Tuesday morning, is apparently in a homeless shelter, one friend said.

A 1:30 p.m. Facebook message said the following, "I'm sorry if y'all misinterpreted my status. I'd never harm myself. Suicide is homicide. I'm all about life."

But that was more than four hours after Cologne, 56, whose real name is David Pierce, posted this:

"This is my last post. Bye, it's been a trip. Be kind to one another. See you later! Love You."

The message was followed by more than 150 others from family and friends.

"Someone needs to call 911 and give them his cell phone number," one said, followed by another:

"well if it is off he just turned it off, cause i called & there was voice mail"

Cologne spins funk and vintage soul music on Tuesday nights at the Star Bar. He also had a weekly Saturday gig at The Clermont Lounge. He has been hosting funk and disco parties in Atlanta and Athens for more than 20 years.

Around 12:30, another post appeared: "Don't be mad, I'm going to a homeless shelter."

He sent a similar message to friend Holly Aguirre, who lives in Athens.

Aguirre said that Cologne lost his home in a fire and had been receiving help from the Red Cross.
