DEKALB COUNTY

The 57th Fighter Group Restaurant

Those with long memories may recall the days when this restaurant operated on the edge of the Peachtree-DeKalb airport. Now it's back, with the same sweeping view of the runways where diners can watch the aerial action while dining on salads, burgers, ribs, seafood and steaks. Lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch are served. 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Mondays-Fridays; 5-10 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; 5-11 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays; noon-5 p.m. Sunday. 3829 Clairmont Road, Atlanta. 770-234-0057, www.the57threstaurant.com . $$

Havana Sandwich Shop

A fire forced the relocation of this popular Cuban eatery to new digs farther north on Buford Highway. But the old favorites are back, from the grilled steak and arroz con pollo to the Cuban and gourmet sandwiches. 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays; 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. 3979 Buford Highway, Atlanta. 404-633-7549, www.havanarestaurantatlanta.com . $

FULTON COUNTY

Painted Table Café

Head over to Grant Park for local and organic servings of chili, she-crab soup, shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, pecan chicken salad, portabello sandwiches and sweet potato fries. Early mornings start with an array of breakfast favorites, including crunchy French toast coated with Frosted Flakes and topped with warm fruit. 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays. 465 Boulevard, Atlanta. 404-622-4353, www.paintedtablecafe.com . $

GWINNETT COUNTY

The Lunch Loft

Chef and owner Kathy Monroe moved her operation from Hamilton Mill to roomier digs in the heart of Buford. Pull up a seat in the dining room or on the patio for a turkey Waldorf wrap, gourmet salads, homemade soups, turkey chili and Vienna beef dogs. On Fridays and Saturdays, check out the dinner menu of what Monroe is inspired to create -- spaghetti, shrimp scampi, pot roast or other specials. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Fridays; noon-8 p.m. Saturdays. 306 W. Main Street, Buford. 770-904-6020, www.thelunchloft.com . $

GWINNETT COUNTY

Tucker's Restaurant and Catering

You may have to do a bit of digging to find this new place, tucked inside the Christianomics Mall, but if you're in the mood for a big breakfast or a hearty home-cooked meal, it's worth the effort. At 6 a.m., the kitchen starts turning out platters of eggs, sausage, grits, hash browns, biscuits, pancakes, bagels and French toast for less than $5. Lunch features a daily special as well as entrees such as meatloaf, chicken pot pie, blackened Cajun chicken with a cream sauce, lasagna, liver and onions, stir fry or shrimp and grits. Lighter bites include sandwiches and soups. 6 a.m. -- 2 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. 350 W. Peachtree Street, Norcross. 770-248-0686, www.tuckerscatering.com . $
