JD’s Diary - The Parties Begin
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
5:53 p.m. Thursday
OK, so far, here’s what’s gone on with me: I got on a plane like at 4:00 in the morning this morning. I came from New York. I was in New York last night at a party. An In Touch magazine party. Drinking, partying all night. Then, again, I got on the plane. Came home. Had some things thing to do - some running around for a little bit before this event. Went home for a second and got me something to eat. What did I have to eat? Ummmm - teriyaki chicken from Mama Fu’s. That’s one of my spots out here that I eat at a lot. Mama Fu’s. So I ate that and then I just, you know, was waiting on everybody to get here to this party tonight.
This is the beginning of the night. The beginning of the big BET weekend. It’s like 6:00 so this party is supposed to be over with. So I guess I’m about to leave here and go to the studio in a minute and start working until like all my friends come in town. They’re flying in town right now so they should be touching down like 8, 9, 10. Then I’ve got to go by the Ladies Night to see Jagged Edge. Then I’m going to go by the Velvet Room just to see what’s going on over there. The Welcome to Atlanta party. It’s my thing to make sure I check out everything, and see who’s partying and who’s not. See if there’s any competition for my party tomorrow.
Oh yeah, I’m looking at my Blackberry right now. This comes out Monday - me and my daughter on the cover of Jet. It’s basically talking about the book [his autobiography “Young, Rich and Dangerous”] and everything. So y’all look for the Jet magazine Monday. That’s what y’all do. Or you can go on themostaccess.com and you can see the big picture. It’s up there now I think.
I’m real excited about this. This is going to be funny when I show it to Shaniah. She’s 9. She’s probably going to buy like 100 copies and take them to school, like, “Look at me!” So I’m excited about that.
I guess I should talk about the Courvoisier campaign launch. That’s where I am. At Antica Posta in Buckhead. Real nice spot. I mean, the Courvoisier situation is beautiful because it’s finally done. It took a long time to get this deal together. It’s got a lot of different tiers to it, that’s going to take place like all through the years. They built me a club too. That’s my own private club. It’s a Courvoisier Lounge for Jermaine Dupri and his friends only. It’s at the studio. It’s being built right now. So, it’s a place where if I’m in the studio I don’t even have to leave. I can just go take a relaxing moment in the club, in the studio.
Oh - Tonight in the studio I’m working with myself. I’m probably going to record my [V-103] radio show because I’m probably not going to be able to do it live tomorrow. And then I’ve got to do overdubs on a record for Nelly. And I’m probably going to write a hook for this Jay-Z song. That sounds like a lot, right? I’ve got three songs on his album already. This “American Gangster” album. He’s working every day on it. He’s drastically working on it. Trying to get it done. And I heard I’ve got three songs on it already so I’m happy about that.
You’re gonna get a lot of exclusives like that here. And it’s just starting like right now. And I’m going to remember stuff that’s going on with me as the night goes on, to tell you.

Wow. How did I stumble across this literary work? Who is this guy? Sounds like a great time though, with streets and ‘clubs’ full of thugs and rappers. Another embarrassment for Atlanta. Guarantee there will be at least one shooting. Have fun!

No one really cares what he has to say. I love a brotha who’s doing well for himself, but if he can live with the state most of the folks are in who purchase his music, so be it. I think he and all entertainers need to use his voice for a positive change. Partying and drinking is fine, but it doesn’t need to glorified. Personally, I think we’ve partied enough. It’s time to get take care of our problems, or we’re going to be left behind.

CJ, please if you dont know who a person is, simply keep your comments out. Haters we do not need. Thank you QweenB! But I love JD and what he does, but I would like to see him and other entertainers focus more on whats happening today. Push on more important issues like Jena 6, why this young boy is back in jail?. So JD if you get around to reading this, the drinking and partying is one thing but we need your voice heard on the important issues.

Definitely props to JD for taking the time. And no matter what is going on I pause to listen to your radio show every Saturday. Can’t beat the exclusives. Shout out to baddog for having low self-esteem. And Stephen I guess we will see your blog soon “Why I call people clowns when I’m obviously the one that is out of the loop”. And CJ I can’t be too critical of you for pointing out the truth so instead let’s keep the party going and leave the guns at home this weekend. Too cold to be getting shot.
Peace

Do your thing JD! (Just keep your bases covered so another black entertainer and role model doesn’t get caught up in a scandal) In other positive news, I didn’t know you had kids, but then I guess how would I know. She’s pretty. I wish you a safe weekend. And I hope you and Janet take some time out after your hectic schedules die down to take it all in and relax.

Do your thang JD there will always be haters. I know the next Usher or even the next Micheal Jackson. He’s only twelve lives in a small town in Iowa. He’s enrolled in voice and acting classes. I’ve received an email from his voice teacher after the first lesson she said ” He’s been blessed with this voice and she expects big things from him wow” He’s performing in Charlotte’s Web @ Lamb Productions. You may wanta holla back. Keep doing it big!!!!

Dove, you’re being hard on a brother. Is it not enough to live a positive life, employ people and promote family values? The man is on the cover of a magazine with his daughter and even if he is part of an industry that may promote some bad traits when is the last time you heard of JD going to jail for anything? And when did the industry start raising kids? It starts at home. WE have to take our children and young adults back. A little less sparing of the rod.

I met J.D. a very long time ago along with his Mother at a party he was throwing for a female group he had called Silk X’s Leather. I am happy that he is enjoying life. If he is not out stealing, raping, molesting or murdering than he is doing something positive with his life. He is helping young men & women in the music industry so he is contributing & doing something positive. Why don’t you guys that are hating do something positive with your lives. Jealousy is you guys problem with your negative comments.

Congrats on everything you have accomplished JD! When one works hard, they deserve to be able to brag and tell their story, if you don’t want to hear it - don’t listen or read it. I was listening to 107.9 and they were talking about the upcoming book and Jermaine’s perspective on how a man of his status and those in the industry should handle and be responsible for their children and the mother that is taking care of this child although they aren’t together anymore. This proves how accomplished and mature JD is as a father. He has worked hard and diligently and deserves all the praise and goodness that comes his way. He has a beautiful daughter that he loves and cherishes! and that’s a beautiful thing!! JD, may God continue to keep and bless you in ALL that you do!

Big Shaun, good morning, I understand exactly what you’re saying. YES! it does start at home and it’s obvious that that’s not happening. The industry has been raising kids for the past few years. Take a look around. Who are these kids trying to emulate? If you’re going to school and trying to be something, you’re considered lame. However, if you’re a thug that’s cool. Granted, his image is pretty good, but promoting partying and drinking when our kids are dropping out of school and getting locked up in mass numbers bothers me.
Yes, he’s on the cover with his daughter, but how many young folks are going to READ his article? Or how many CAN read the article? I’m not putting our kids down, but I’ve been in the school system and know that all these kids want to be are rappers and/or thugs because that’s “COOL”.
I just want folks in entertainment to be a tad more responsible. They are role models whether they want to be or not. Not only that, when “others” see our entertainers acting in such a manner, they categorize us all like that. Do you think I want to be associated with “New York” from Everyone Loves New York? I think not.
Accountability, our children are owed that.

Jermaine!!! Big ups to you! I’ll be back in my home away from home immediately after the Kanye West concert/afterparty here in Nashville!
It’s great to see another Black man do great things and set trends! As far as the others go: Complaining because we party too much and not take care of our problems. My reasoning behind that is, ONE MAN started these problems. His name is George W. Bush. Not Jermaine Dupri, Clifford Harris (T.I.), Jonathan Smith (Lil Jon), Sean Combs, or Russell Simmons.

Jermaine,
Please install a metal detector at the door for the safety of your guests. There are way too many wussy retards in the hip-hop scene who fire guns the first time they feel the least bit slighted.

Thx to the AJC for publishing the diary excerpts…I was browsing and it caught my eye…I thank JD for always representing Atlanta in a positive light. It’s a sad that CJ chooses to take the negative route regarding the BET awards. I pray that no one gets hurt just like I pray everyone is safe when NASCAR comes to town. If as parents we raise responsible, respectful, secure kids we will not have to worry about OTHER people being role models. The entertainment industry can stand to be more responsible this is true. But so can us as a race. We have a tendency to get caught up in the problem instead of finding a resolution. If you have kids that are trying to emulate rappers & thugs if may be that your parenting skills are lacking. My parents were and are my role models. They urged me to learn my history so I would know who I am. They raised me to?? the status quo and never be afraid to stand for what I believe in. Even if I stood alone. Hip-Hop has taken a lot of flack lately for the ills in society. I was raised on Hip-Hop and know it to be a powerful tool that can elicit change. Is all the music positive?? Of course not, life is not always positive. Check out Outkast ATLiens track 14 13th Floor/Growing Old… or Goodie Mob’s Soul Food… or Pharoahe Monch… That’s the Hip-Hop I love!!! Thanks to BET for bringing the awards to Atlanta>>>>

BET Hip Hop Awards will bring out all of the ghetto trash in this city. I predict armed robberies at Lenox Mall, a shoot-out at Shout, and all kinds of whorishness at the clubs. Why cant you people stay below I-20 where you belong?

Hey JD,
You are so committed to your fans. I think it’s great. When will you be back on myspace? I know it’s been a minute and I sent over a request. I will definetly return back here to read your diary. I can’t wait for the Greatest Hits album and your book. Will you do a book signing? I think it would be a great idea. I have been a fan since ‘92. Keep doing your thing and I hope the best for you with your book. Your daughter is beautiful by the way. Stay blessed! Shanda(R)

Archie, don’t categorize us ALL like this because it’s the farthest from the truth. That’s the problem with YOU people. Unfortunately, this is what the media LOVES to portray of Blacks and that’s what YOU people like to see.
What they need to do is have a camera rolling from about 6 to 9am near and around city hall watching hard working BLACK men and women going to WORK. That’s the norm, believe it or not.
It’s just unfortunate and sad that so many of my people don’t understand how bad these images hurt us.

Wow…its amazing how all of you will get mad at me for calling a spade a spade, but will not even bat an eyelash at the nasty video hos, the violence that your people display, the glorification of gangsta/prison/thug culture, dope selling, etc. Have fun popping your champagne bottles, eating chicken wings, creating more out of wedlock babies, shooting up clubs and shopping malls, and cruising Peachtree looking for “work”, and acting like trash all weekend. You’ve ruined this city for good.

Archie Bunker
You really need to get a “real life” because as I see it now, you don’t have one. Our culture changes constantly (and sometimes right before our eyes)and we just have to accept those changes eventhough we might not like them. And just in case your memory eludes you at times, your race has the most serial killers; child molestors and copy-cat Columbine type mass murders than any other race. So Archie Bunker, please don’t get it twisted. Start praying and asking the Lord to forgive you for your ignorance.
By BillW
October 13, 2007 7:46 AM | Link to this
Look, you can talk about “culture changes” and whatever else passes through your head, but the fact is that the black race is in deep trouble and the government alone can’t fix it. The answer has to start with individuals taking responsibility and telling these media w** to their face that they do not represent anything that is good and worthy of being the image of the black race. Again, until we take responsibility, quit kissing up to the bad actors and irresponsible role models and giving them free publicity, then don’t expect to build self respect and don’t expect anyone to treat you with respect.

Very interesting comments! The winds of change are here, The BET Hip-Hop Awards is on life support, Hip-Hop IS ON LIFE SUPPORT! Like Rock, it’s had it’s run and now the “new-new” is here. Most of the folks after tonight you’ll never hear from again. The music has grown stale and the videos are a total farce. I’m not being a hater, just stating fact. What Atlanta is hosting is really a wake versus a celebration. Hip-Hop is in for a long, sorry slide.

As someone that was actually at the award show, I’m pleased to report that it was a very positive celebration of culture and talent. Yes, TI made a dumb move, but that shouldn’t overshadow the positive vibe of the whole awards show. To the Archie Bunker’s of this city, please acceptt he fact that Atlanta is like the Harlem of the Harlem Renaissance - it’s an amazing time to live in this city among so many gifter writers, singers, etc.
