Bobby Brown show a bit stiff

What was suppose to be grown and sexy seemed more like loud and wrong. Without question, Atlanta was ready for the New Jack Swing tour on Friday at the Civic Center that promised old-school jams by Guy, After 7, K-Ci & JoJo and Bobby Brown.

But while half the show made fans sing along and/or jump from their seats to dance, the other half reminded many that we’re getting older and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

It was a good, even if slow, start as After 7 warmed up the crowd with some singable love songs. The group obviously put forth some effort — with coordinated suits and moves.

K-Ci & JoJo, on the other hand, seemed like they just rolled onto the stage. For the record, K-Ci kept on most of his clothes, but the duo’s show was definitely bare bones. They went through songs like “Life” and “If You Think You’re Lonely Now” but the weakened voices and lack of showmanship made the performance seem like an afterthought. And we still can’t figure out why K-Ci jumped on the shoulders of a burly, security-type just to “interact” with fans.

Then what the audience thought was the finale hobbled onto the stage … Bobby Brown. The crowd went crazy with excitement, especially because many speculated he might not show at all. We can appreciate his working through the pain of an injured ankle, but his performance was underwhelming (as one fan noted, it seemed like a rehearsal). Beyond humping the stage and air, he couldn’t dance, and he shoved “new” songs down our ears when what we really wanted was “Roni” and “Don’t Be Cruel.” We got a few grooves, but what happened to “My Prerogative”? A few friends popped in briefly: fellow New Edition member Ronnie DeVoe helped Bobby with his attire and mic, while Keith Sweat made a surprise cameo at the end of one song. And to close it out, he brought a little girl on stage to dance for us … why and shouldn’t she have been at home in bed?

After this many fans left thinking the show was over. But Guy, or rather, Aaron Hall of Guy, was the night’s closer — and surprisingly the night’s biggest hit. While Bobby did at least have a band on stage, Aaron had musicians, backup singers and light displays. Finally, someone seemed prepared to put on a show. Sure he had a few missteps, including racy “dancing” with a young woman from the audience (even Aaron commented that he was getting too old for those antics). But his voice was strong as he went through hits like “Let’s Chill” and “I Miss You,” which made many couples get up to dance in the aisles. Plus, he spent the majority of his show in the crowd (and not on a security guard’s shoulders). Thank goodness for sweet endings.

What did you think?

Last year’s New Jack Show, minus Bobby Brown, but with Tony, Tone, Toni and all of Guy, was much, much better than this one. Those of us who went to that show knew not to go to this one.

Bobby did a great job, Aaron did ok, but not well enough to close a show. Bobby DID sing My Prerogative. He only song 1 new song. KC & JoJo were not at their best, I do agree with that. Aaron Hall did most of his show in the audience. After Bobby did My Prerogative and left the stage, Aaron came out and put a litter damper on me. I like Groove Me and the song I Like. Actually After 7 & Bobby was the best! Leave Bobby alone, people always talking about him and what drugs he is on, SO WHAT, he is on the same drugs everyone else is on like Britt, Lohan, Vick, THE REAL WORLD cast, shall I go on? People in the audience, brought their drugs to the show with them because I smelled it! So none of us are no different than Bobby, he just happens to be in the public eye. Who knows what goes on behind all of our closed doors. Everybody is on something, he just dont mind letting the world know. GOOOO Bobbbaayyyy!!!!

I hope it was all women at the show.
Any male who watches some dude bump and grind the air and enjoys that kind of crooning is seriously gay.

And a bad judge of music because that crap has got to be the most boring snooze of a no-talent hack job one can ever envision. As the blogger clearly implied. At the very most it’s intended to be heard and not seen.

Please, black males and white wannabe’s everywhere - pick up a guitar for gods sakes. Study the piano. And put down the microphone.

You’re killing our ears and our musical sensibilities with that dumbed-down no barrier to entry crap.

How many rappers is it now. 10,000? 20,000?

Go Beethoven!!!! Go Jimi!!!!

If bobby brown’s reality is any indication of his performance last nite EVERYONE should have stayed home. That crack he IS smoking has burned up the rest of any talent he had. If you needed a license to sing (like a drivers license) I’d say revoke his!!

I tried to convince my girlfriends to attend “The Crackhead Review”, but none would or said they wanted to go, but would deny attending. After looking at the cost and reading the performance reviews, I am happy that my girlfriends and I saved our money.

My People! It is absolutely O.K. to hold any performer to a standard! Just like you should yourself, mates and family. If you pay for something expect quality product. Sisters quit taking up for men who use you and start encouraging them to respect you so our sons and daughters will think and act in a respectful manner!

Well, I attended the show and it was decent. What did you people expect, Bobby Brown at his peak, come now. He did his standard. His foot or ankle or something is broken, cut the man some slack. Aaron Hall closed the show wonderfully. He performed all of the hits, by himself, no need for Teddy Riley. “Goodbye Love”, “I Miss You” he was awesome, he still had energy and gave a quality set. After Seven were truly the gentlemen of the evening. They were just a little to boring. K-Ci and Jo-Jo were truly the biggest disappointment of the evening. K-Ci looked like an idiot up there on that bodyguards shoulders, he screamed most of the time. It’s time for them to sit down or at the very least get Mr. Dalvin and Devante Swing to join them, because based on the strength of their own performance it was HORRIBLE.

The was to be expected with no many recovering addicts in the line up. However, Aaron made up for them all without the help of his group.

Damn, I wish I knew some of you people personally, so I could talk about your drunk-ass Uncle Leroy, or 6 baby daddy having ass sister, or your lazy ass who be lying on your income taxes!

You people just amaze me! This tour, for better or for worse, is a celebration of life, of overcoming adversity.

Aaron, Bobby (my favorite), After 7, they’ve come from the poverty of the projects AND DONE SOMETHING WITH THEIR LIVES, unlike some of you stupid m** sitting in your draws somewhere working for $8.50 an hour.

Stop hating your own and go bother Britney, Lindsey, Paris, Robert Downey Jr., Tim Allen, Tommy Lee - BTW, I didn’t hear near one of you sorry ass people talking about “Tommy Goes To College”, or Tim Allen’s million-dollar book deals,tv show or movies! But let Bobby or somebody like him at least TRY to get themselves together and do a tv show, movie, or tour, you self hating somethings (Certainly, not self respecting African Americans or even black people) will be there to tear them down and try to make sure they stay down.

Martin Luther King would be proud!
