Alicia Keys and Ne-Yo in Atlanta
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The ticket may have said this was the Alicia Keys’ “As I Am” Tour Wednesday night at Philips Arena, but it sure looked like Daughters Night Out.
Everywhere you turned in the less-than-capacity crowd, there were moms and daughters, dads with daughters, families with daughters, all at Philips to see one of the most talented and inspiring female artists in contemporary R&B music (above).
Let’s hope mom or dad covered their ears when “American Idol” Jordin Sparks got a little sad before she sang “Freeze,” and told the audience to cherish each other “because you guys, we don’t know how long we’re going to be here.”
Here’s hoping the little ones’ eyes were shielded as well, when one of Atlanta R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo’s dancers pranced suggestively in front of him, in lingerie, during “Mirror” and “Say It”.
And with all of that early use of their hands, maybe they didn’t mind only having sporadic things to applaud during the main attraction, like Cedric the Entertainer’s sermon in the opening video; Keys’ dynamic performance of Prince’s “How Come You Don’t Call Me” in the middle of the curiously-paced, and sometimes sleepy two-hour set; and whenever her piano was rolled out, and she stopped with the choreography.
Were you there Wednesday, and if so what did you think of the Keys show? (Look for your favorite part of the concert in the photo gallery HERE) Did her part “meaningful” singer-songwriter, part humanitarian, part Beyonce presentation work for you? What about Ne-Yo in tails, with tributes to Marvin Gaye, Jodeci, Frankie Beverly and the like?

Alicia Keys is so sexy. I saw her picture in pink outfitt. She look sexy in that pink. I saw same kind a outfit at http://www.dynamicleather.com. They have pink leather jackets, pink leather vests, pink leather chaps, leather Motorcycle jackets, leather vests, leather chaps, leather shirts, leather pants & biker gear.
I saw same pink outfit there. I can’t beleive that how sexy she looks in that pink outfit.

I think Neyo stole the show. Know wonder R.Kelly gave him the boot. Alicia left me wondering is she overated? but I love her still. Great show had a blast! great crowd too, very mature.

I came with my wife to see Alicia Keys not Christina Aguleira, where was the piano, the great songs, this was like a pop dance concert. Very dissapointed. First 1.5 were mainly choreographed dance numbers???

The show was awesome. Alicia showed her versitilty by giving everyone what they wanted. The highlight was her duet with her backgroung singer on Force MD’s “Tender Love” Amazaing voice and talent. By far Alicia is the best female artist in the music industry. Jordin Sparks gave a great performance and will go far in the buisness. Neyo proved he is a force to be reckoned with. Watch out Usher!

Didn’t go, didn’t care, big deal. This child is cute, fa sho…but why would I pay money to hear a 5th grade recital? That goes for Ne-Yo and Jordin Sparks. Just goes to show you that the public is tone deaf, and when you let ‘tweens “pick” talent.

Apparently the writer of this article is not a big Alicia Keys fan. I thought Alicia’s performance was great! She looked beautiful and sounded awesome!

To Bored,
I don’t know what you were looking at, but A. Keys threw down last night. Ms. Keys showed last night that she has matured as a artist in so many ways. When she first came on the music scene, she would sing a little off key and play the piano like a little teenager. Now she is out in front dancing and performing like a grown woman. Yes, my girlfriend hear Ms. Keys’ voice go flat for a moment, but she recovered like a season pro. If I had a daughter who was 8 or 9, I would have taken her there. Bored, remember this concert was gear to the ladies more than the guys. Keep that in mind….

Give me a break!!! I thought both Ne-Yo and Alicia did an awesome job! Ne-Yo gave a great performance. He sounded good and he looked good. Alicia was awesome! She sounded great and did her thing. I loved the fact she mixed it up and did a little of everything…that’s what being a great performer is about. She was well worth the money!!!

I thought the show was great. I left feeling like I really got my money’s worth. I don’t know how anyone can say that anything about the show was “sleepy”.

I went to the concert last night and absolutely love all three performers! They all brought something different to the stage to entertain everyone. I thought alicia was wonderful. She packed all of her talents on that stage. I think Sonia went there expecting two hours of Anita Baker or two hours of Beyonce. Alicia has proven herself to be neither. She’s in a league of her own.

Loved the show! The crowd was the only thing that was “sleepy”.
I was surprised about how empty the arena was.. We had tickets for the 400 seats and we given seats in the 118 section - SWEET!!!!!
Alicia and Jermaine Paul (her background singer woo woo) were spectacular!

Excellent concert, Alicia Keys and Neyo put on an wonderful show, Jordin Sparks will become seasoned in time. Live Band, dancers, nice music, no “dysfuntional antics” I almost felt like I was “bac in da day”:) However not quite:) Alica dance moves were very sensous and conservative not the BS you see out today. I will be a fan of all 3 for a long time to come. Not bad for a Concert for todays standard.

I went to the concert last night and though it was excellent. A Keys really brought the house down. I liked the way she mixed it up, no one wants to just see her sitting behind a piano all night. I liked when she laid down on top of the piano and starting playing. The Tender Love song with her background singer was about the best performance of the night.

Went to the show last night and thought it was awesome. Not a huge fan of Ne-Yo but thought he did well. Happy that he kept it clean for the most part. Alicia was awesome. I agree that most shows today leave you disappointed but she gave 2 straight hours when most performers today barely give 1-1.5. I could have done without so many dance numbers and the switching up the pace but overall, great show.

I loved the concert last night. All three were wonderful. But Alicia Keys was the highlight of the night. It was worth every penny. Her vocals were very strong and I was amazed that she lasted all night long. She puts her heart in soul in her music. I loved her performances and the compterized images. I never had a dull moment. I did it VIP/Cub style last night and I will do it again and again. She never disappoints.

That concert was DEFINITELY worth my money!!!!! Alicia Keys, Neyo, and even Jordin Sparks was WONDERFUL!! When A. Keys was laying on the piano and leaned over and started to play…and when she did the “Tender Love” duet… and when she… It was all GREAT!!!!
And that’s my 2 cents!!

I’m a fan of Alicia’s; however I was unable to attend last night. I’m sure she was as awesome as everyone who went says she is. I see she’s got a few haters too…and they probably didn’t even attend the show.

I thought the concert was “OK”. I guess it’s because I’m not neither one of the performers fan. Jordan Sparks should have been the runner-up on AI. Alicia didn’t perform better than Neyo (eventhough it was her show). I think Neyo did the best out of all entertainers. With regards to looks, Alicia and Jordan has been eating “quite” well. Jordan has gained her weight back that she lost when she song the National Anthem. The outfit she had on did not help her size. I’m a plus size myself, however, I try to wear thing to help my weight. I’ve always thought Neyo was on the “sweet” side. Nevertheless, the concert passed. I wasn’t totally bored!

Neyo was awesome. The show should have been renamed. Alicia was good too. With Jordan, the verdict is still out. She was okay. I thought she did a good job on American Idol, but not good enough to have won. She should have came second to Ms. Dolittle. At this point, I’m watched out on American Idol. It needs to rest. With regards to TOO MUCH HYPE comment about looks, I feel also that Jordan should have had on a more appealing outfit. She has become quite “CHUNKY” as with Alicia. Alicia looked good in her “fitted” jeans, but they were “TOO FITTED”. She’s eating good! I guess when the money is good, the food is good. Overall, the concert was good, but if I had to pay for it I wouldn’t. Let me hear some Gerald Levert (deceased), Gladys Knight and Luther (deceased); I’ll pay for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I did not attend the show, and am not a fan of any of them, I think it necessary that I point out to those obvious race baiters dropping little notes on this blog that NO ONE GIVES A DAMN about your hate. You folks are a thing of the past. Not once have you heard anyone here attack, belittle, or bait any of your so called “artists.” You are like lint on one’s shoulders, that will be dusted off. Please, go and worry as to what will happen to you when no one else in this world agrees with your hate. Busta Hymen, Ralph and Todd you guys didn’t attend because you all needed to meet at the “Bulldog,” eh?

Alicia…Alicia….Alicia. Lord that was a good show. I had no idea that girl could sing so damn good. Ne-Yo, I can see that he will be huge and a major head liner, he is extremely gifted. Jordin was very good, it was all so good. When Alicia came out and sung “How come you dont call me?” She tore it up, She doesnt always have to play the piano, because her voice is amazing. I had front and center seats and I was so happy I went, she needs to come back, I would go again.

It’s obvious that some of hte people on the blog are not AKeys fan but most of all need a HUGE. I think Ms. Keys said it best last night when she spoke of her program “Alicia in Africa” that if we spent our time on helping those less fortunate rather than spreading HATE the world would be a much better place. The concert was absolutely wonderful and tastefully done. Jordin Sparks has a great voice and an innocence about her. Neyo’s performance was impeccable and so were his moves. Watch out Usher!!!!!!!!!! I saw Alicia Keys at Chastain 7 years ago and she has really grown as a woman and artist. She is a very talented individual.

FYI: I got to meet Alicia last night and she sat and talked with us for about 20-30 minutes, answered questions, took pics and signed autographs…she’s my second favorite artist (beyonce-#1) because she was SO real!!!! I love her…and honestly nothing negative you say will hurt her…she grows from it…the girl is AUTHENTIC!
ALSO, HOW CAN A BIRACIAL GIRL BE “RACIST”…another little fact: whites cannot claim to be victims of “racism” because they are the “majority.” Look it up…whites can say someone is “prejudice” but not “racist” against whites….

T.Brown- That is an ignorant thing to say that whites can not be the victims of racism. I have seen it happen numerous times where some real, honest, and moral white people have been seriously victims of racism. Racism knows no color, the people that practice it are sad, regardless of what group they belong to. It is not right. Ever. No matter who you are, God gave us no right to judge another just because their skin color is different. To say whites are never on the other side of it is a lie. And God certainly does not like liars.
By T.Brown

Kenya, my statement was not ignorant, however I do believe yours is. The nature of ignorance comes from “not knowing”….obviously you didn’t bother to look it up for yourself before condemning my comment as ignorant. Now I did NOT say whites couldn’t be victims of prejudice. There IS a difference. “Racism” refers to an institutionalized societal situation where a “dominant” race is exhibiting negative behaviors toward a “non-dominant” race. By the very definition, BLACKS and other minorities are NOT able to be “racist” because they are not the “dominant” race. They can surely be prejudiced, biased, mean, etc. toward whites and it DOES happen….but BEFORE you try to talk about my comments as lies or ignorance, why not do YOUR research first…and then reply to what I AM saying, not what I’m NOT!

I thought the show was wonderful and I’d pay to see Alicia again and again. I think so many people on here are hating including the person that wrote this sorry low-budget review. The beginning may have started off a little slow, but she more than redeemed herself towards the end. None of you with not-so-good reviews can’t say you weren’t singing along to No One, Fallin, If I Ain’t Got You, Like You Never See Me Again, Unbreakable, A Womans Worth…
Yall will be lying to say she didn’t kill Diary/Tender Love or that you didnt rock to Go Head. If she didn’t do well please name a peer of hers that could have done better because I’d like to attend their show and see it.
If none of the songs that I just mentioned moved you to sing or move along then you all were trully stiff and stuffy individuals that obviously came to expect a lousy time, which your attitudes and outlook gave you.

I DROVE ALMOST TWO HOURS TO THE SHOW. I have seen Alicia in concert twice before. Her concert was different than previous ones. FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT APPRECIATE THE SHOW**THE THREE OF US WHO ATTENDED COULD NOT STAY IN OUR SEATS. AND BY THE CROWD APPLAUSES SHE WAS PHENOMENAL. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO CONCERTS FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS. THIS WAS BY FAR THE BEST THAT I HAVE ATTENDED. The writer of the article must not be up with the times. Yes it was a less than capacity crowd. But think, guess what, the econonomy is horrible. So people don’t have money like they use to. But the building was about 85% full. I ENJOYED ALL THREE, NEYO SUPRISED ME WITH DOING WELL. BUT MS ALICIA KEYS,,,,,,, IS IN A CLASS ALL BYHERSELF. AND THE RECORD ON HER IS NOT OVER.
