Monica Reality Show To Debut In August
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A month ago we were following reports on Media TakeOut and the like, that local Grammy winner Monica was going to be on a “Real Housewives Atlanta.”
Well her manager got right back to us and denied that, but added that the R&B singer was working on a TV show.
Now we know what it is: Peachtree TV will debut “The Single: Monica” in August. And the show will be about all that it took for her to come back with a hit (hopefully) for her upcoming CD, “Lessons Learned”.
“The Single: Monica” will be executive-produced by its creator James DuBose, who did Keyshia Cole’s reality series for BET.
“I really think this is going to be fun,” said Monica, above in a new Derek Blanks shot. “My main thing I hope to accomplish with this is, well, you know, I didn’t do things in my life in the order people may have felt I should have. But ultimately, I’ve found my balance.
“We’ve found our balance,” she continues, referring to the father of her two sons, rapper/producer Rodney “Rocko” Hill. “As artists, as parents, and just as human beings. I hope this shows that.”
“It’s going to be a ride, I can tell you that. I’ll probably have a moment or two on there, but I’m more than comfortable with me. I’ve never really been secretive about my life and what I’ve gone through…So you know, people will see that I live the same type of life of many women with children. I don’t hire a car service when the kids need to go somewhere. There’s no nanny, no chef over here. I take care of home, and then might have to spend 14 hours in the studio. And people will see that.”
Actually people will see Monica way before August as she’s set to introduce “Big Momma’s House” at Peachtree TV’s Screen on the Green tomorrow at Centennial Olympic Park.

I don’t think watching Monica do things that normal people do everyday. She does need some positive exposure but a reality show may not put her in a positive light. I wish her luck and she is going to need it because the viewers won’t be kind to her. She didn’t realize how many people were hoping that she would be the next top star but she blew it. Let’s hope that she can win the hearts of her fans and the general public again.

I’ll tell you who Monica is, just another hood rat who messes with drug dealers and murderers (alleged) and has children out of wedlock. Another one who didn’t realize her better than mediocre voice could propel her into a better place in life and since she is in the public view, provide a good example. Add her to the list of others: Brandy, Britney, Tiny. I’m keepin’ hope alive for you Keysha…look at these examples and do the opposite. Watch your girls like Beyonce and Christina (ya’ll see what I did right…I know you all are quick to throw the race card on this so called blog) Will I watch the show??? Probably catch a couple of episodes when I remember…it’s hard not to stare at a train wreck.

The part in the article that stands out the most to me is when Monica says “I didn’t do things in my life in the order people may have felt I should have. But ultimately, I’ve found my balance”. I can relate and I’m sure many of you can too. I’m hoping that with this new growth and balance she can finally be the superstar I know she was meant to be. What an amazing voice she has. I met her in Piccadilly once. There was no glitz, glamour or entourage. She was just an average young lady getting a meal in a cafeteria. She was very kind and let us take pictures of her. She is more beautiful in person than photographs. I wish her the best. What I don’t get is, if you have disdain for a person why comment. Why not skip the article.

Another tv show about someone who has’nt had a hit record in what…3-4 years..just what we need. I agree with Monique, Keyshia Cole’s show was a HOT GHETTO MESS and she’s having a season 4 this fall. Monica needs to stop having babies by her Rapper Wanna be Baby Daddy and get with somebody to write her some hits for a new cd. Trust i’m not hatin’ on Monica i’m just speaking my mind.

You know reading some of these blogs was extremely funny to me. Most had valid points but others…. oh my gosh why have so much disdain for a person and you don’t personally know them. I mean really “hood rat”?! Come on. Yes she probably grew up in what was called the “hood” to our culture and people. All “hoods” are not the ghetto, delapitated buildings that have p** in the hallways and crackpipes in the gutters. It’s short for “neighborHOOD.” This “hood rat” wrote alot music for young girls and women and yes we can relate. Hell at least that D-lister can pay for gas!! I wish Mo much success in all that she does. I would like to say to the people who are hating on Mo If you don’t have anything good to say, then why say anything at all. You seem to be putting an enourmous amout of engery on speaking against her but how about we try as a people to lift her up. In life we all have our crosses to bear the difference is your life is not always being cross examined by the media and haters. I agree with Tammi, with the exception of reality law enforcement shows. Stupid crooks, drivers, hookers, and speeders are actually the best comedy on TV. Celebrity has-been or wannabee reality shows, on the other hand, are boring and a sign of desperation. Tori Spelling is a lousy actress who received no further interest from Hollywood, despite her father, after the demise of “90210” so she and her current husband concocted a reality show in a failed attempt to keep her name in the press. No one cared.
I don’t see the entertainment value in watching ANYONE go about their normal daily lives and don’t understand those who do find value in it or watch such shows. If you keep yourself busy, your lives are just as exciting or boring. Read a book, go to a movie, the park or a museum. Spend the time you’d be watching such drivel in making more of your own lives. It’s time you will never get back.

I believe P’tree TV is what used to be Channel 17 (TBS) on “regular television”.
Too many reality shows on now though. American Idol is played out. Very convenient that So You Think You Can Dance came on right after this season of A.I. ended. Time for the folks over on “Lost” to be FOUND. The Bachelor is as played out as Moment of Truth. But at least FEAR FACTOR has finally bit the dust!

First of all - this is a blog. People can say good or bad things about Monica and just because people say she is a “hoodrat who dates dealers” does not mean they are hating. Its a perception they have!
Anyway, I like Monica, but to me her music got less and less appealing. Her latest projects were almost like a mixtape or something. I might watch the show if I remember its on and call me a hater if you want, but you wasting your time.

This is the very reason why black music is suffering so much. It’s trifling people like you who instead of buying the cd, burn it and then want to A&R the music. I wish you could put the same effort in this e mail that you would put into your final exams. Maybe then, you would have a job that would afford you the skills that would allow you the opportunity to say more than “You want fries with that ? ” When you get out of summer school and get your SAT score and credit score above 600, Go to the bookstore and purchase the book, THE DUMBEST GENERATION by Mark Bauerlein and figure out how you can make a difference and add to the positive development of society.

Remember this people: Anna Nichole Smith had her own reality show too and people watched…not b/c they were a fan necessarily, but b/c people like to see others fail. So MO, don’t be fooled, people WILL be watching and hoping you do just like Anna and Whitney…so watch ya’self!

After reading the different statements and remarks concerning Monica it breaks my heart to read all the hate she gets. To me she is one of the best female r&b singer, who was successful selling millions of records, she talented, beautiful and real as it gets, plus she can really sing not like alot of artists out today. Like the saying says when people talk about you you are doing something right it only make you stronger and confident. I watched her show 2nite and I loved it. I think that as black people we need to support our artists and actors on t.v. because lets face it the few parts that we get are always the same… shoot em up or in a hair salon. So for Monica to give us a view into her “personal” life I think it’s great! Everyone pull 2gether and stop hatin. If it was Ur show U’d want the love! Monica is an icon in the music industry. Every female at one point in their lives can relate to a Monica song. How many artists do you know that started at the tender age of 13 and was very sucessful. Yes, she is a mother or two beautiful boys and i would bet all those people making negative comments about her music and lifestyle are also products of unwed mothers probaly on walfare atleast she can take care of the kids that God Blessed her with. All the haters think back to your childhood was your father there, did your mother get government assistance or did you live in thr projects.
