Jermaine Dupri vs. Greg Street (Kind Of)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Speaking of that comment (in the previous post here) that Lil Wayne made about the DJ being dead, well, apparently Atlanta music mogul Jermaine Dupri (top photo) has picked up that baton - to use his own illustration — and posted a video seconding Wayne’s position.
(See it on YouTube BELOW)
Dupri’s fellow V-103 announcer, Greg Street (second photo above), saw it and has issued an even more personal response — including this swipe: “Yes, you are internationally known, but you are not locally respected.”)
(See the entire YouTube video BELOW)
And now a renowned Atlanta DJ with ties to both parties — DJ Nabs (above) — has weighed in on the online battle, noting that Dupri “can be somewhat outlandish” and Street may be trying to pump up sales of his upcoming CD, “Certified Worldwide”. But “obviously there is some truth to what both these individuals have to say.”
(See his take HERE )
OK it’s your turn. After looking at Dupri, Street and Nabs’ videos, what’s your opinion? Think Dupri makes a good argument that the DJ is dead? (Again, an especially curious position for Dupri to take since he is a DJ, of sorts, on V-103). Or does this feel like a manufactured back and forth to boost attention/sales for both?

I think both sides have taken a small issue and made it bigger than it needs to be. The face of music has changed and will continue to change. There was a time when the love of the music (not the love of money) ruled the game. JD was trying to get everyone back to that love of music…I guess he just went about it the wrong way. In a week, no one would care.

Lil Wayne, your comments represent your maturity level…Zip Zero! What is important is none of the stupidity that you babbled above but things more like Barak for President, Hillary for retirement, cop killing, child rapists, Clayton County School System, no child left behind, drug houses, gang bangers, foreclosures and people loosing their homes, the price of gas, people loosing their jobs, selliing drugs to and killing our own kind, racial profiling, who is running for office, cleaning up our neighborhoods, helping your brother out, lending your sister a hand, making people’s lives better… things like that. No one wants to hear about nor discuss the stupidness that you babbled above. Grow up and be a part of the solution and stop being a part of the damn problem.

BK…you are damn straight! You got down with that comment. Those are the important things that people need to address. If you were standing here I would give you a kiss (if you are a woman) a pound if you are a homie! You sound like you have your head on correct. Stay that way and maybe one day this place will be a better palce for everyone. Stay up BK… I take it that is for Brooklyn… which is where I am from!

Why does the AJC open every article up for comment???? Do you not have anyone monitoring to delete some of these asinine comments. This is my first time commenting and last as a matter of fact, I will no longer read the AJC, because they breed hate and racism!!

What we have is a genetic issue. The element lacking evolved brain DNA is being subsidized to rap and breed.

Hell, even they know it’s trash, but they produce and play it because it nausates the superior white race.
Superior as in:
You see Mark, maybe whites aren’t really superior, it’s just that people just don’t take individual incidents and say they are ills of an entire race of people. If you are white, your people must be ashamed.
Ah, who knew you (and all your other screen names) posted on the weekends. Your obsession with all things “black” makes me wonder if you’re really a happy guy. lol
Oh, and Mr. Superior… the correct spelling is ‘nauseates.’ YOU could learn so much from others.

I’m a very happy guy. I’m not a violent, illiterate black. Check out the jail dockets, then tell me that whites aren’t superior. Blacks are filthy animals.

The DJ is not dead. Music as a whole is DEAD!!
Long gone are the days when rap music was one that uplifted the people (KRS-One & BDP) and could get a party started (Doug E. Fresh). Long gone are the days when if artists had an issue with each other, it was handled on wax (LL Cool J vs. Kool Moe Dee). Long gone are the days when you could ride in a car with your parents & sing the lyrics to a rap song & not get in trouble for it because there was limited, if any, profanity in it. Rap music today has NO SUBSTANCE WHATSOEVER! I mean, the “artists” can’t even come up with decent names for themselves; Jeezy, Weezy, Soulja Boy…..please.
Rap used to have a message. That message never glorified jewelry, cars, clothes, degrading women, etc. The fact that the music industry continues to promote this kind of garbage and that the parents of today are actually allowing their children to participate in its promotion is proof positive that this music has gone to hell in a handbasket.
Thank GOD for the DJ’s at 104.1 & 102.5 for playing REAL music on a daily basis!

i think both of u are acting like them up north moguls and artists. ATL is now on the map because of love and respect for our people. Show the world that we are different. Show the world that ATL is no1 because of unity and not controversey, we dont need that, and never be about that! Respect each other and learn to learn from each other so u can be a resourse for all that is watching. Keep ATL on the map with the truth! Black Men dont have to resort to belittling each other but Black Men can respect each other differences……ONE
Ma Dukes….Stop the madness!!!!

As far as I’m concern, the whole hip hop scene needs rehab, rejuvenation, and new blood. Outside of Jay Z, Tupac and Biggie it’s been on a downhill spiral. There is so much s… that has been steped on and copied. I hope that R&B put that s… in a coffin. On that note!

There’s no way that the “DJ is Dead”. The “DJ” is and always will be the backbone. Without the DJ, there would be no rap. Many “DJ’s” have morphed and became producers. So this drama may be just good marketing through hype. For JD and Lil Wayne, you should never p** over a guy in Greg Street’s position. And I agree with him regarding all of you in the music business, it is time to play chess and stop playing checkers! We should not be against each other but united. Many of you have forgot this.

Also music as a whole is dead because everybody is doing and talking about the same thing. And regarding JD’s comment of being bigger than MLK, it’s straight up blasphemy and complete ignorance. MLK took a bullet to remix the rights of black people.
