Tony Rich Resurfacing?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
At the end of a conversation with Hidden Beach’s president about its release next Tuesday of another “Unwrapped” compilation — this time, featuring instrumental versions of southern hip-hop — he gave us a scoop: They’ve signed Tony Rich.
Now as those who have followed the Atlanta Music Scene for a long time should know, Rich blasted out of LaFace Records in 1995 (around the time the photo above was shot for the AJC) with his Grammy-winning CD “Words”, and the huge first single, “Nobody Knows”.
He’s released at least four discs since then — at least according to allmusic.com, but basically, really, hasn’t been heard from since.
Well
“He’s already completed an album that we’re really excited about,” Steve McKeever allowed. “And we hope to get it out in August. The AJC is the first media outlet I’ve told about this, but you know, he is an Atlanta guy And the only other thing I can say at this time is there’s a good YouTube video up now, catching people up.”
(See it BELOW).
Interested in hearing from Rich again? Have an underappreciated favorite from “Words” or “Birdseye” - or any of Rich’s other independent releases that followed? (“Hey Blue”? “Like A Woman”?) Are there artists of his era - or the LaFace imprint in particular - that you wish would resurface?

Hey there..you know, my 19 year old son found Tony Rich’s CD in my closet (as well as many others that I had not unpacked from moving) and he’s IN LOVE WITH THE CD. He plays it ALL the time and is now interested in learning how to play the guitar (he uses my 7 year old daughter’s guitar — hey, it’s pretty nice)
The only thing is that he found the CD without the case so I’ve been trying to remember his last name. The only name I could give my son was “Tony”. So I googled one of his songs and it lead me to this site. I’m so excited for you Mr. Rich. As a 41 year old Christian, I’m still now listening to your CD, Words on the sly :-). I’m proud of you and happy that you are back in the workplace. Ever thought of making any Christian music?
Blessings, Sabra (from Charlotte, NC)
