The B-52s on TV and at Madison Square Garden

The B-52s successful run on the True Colors tour is done, and the foursome has just returned from a European jaunt, but that’s not the last of the group’s live publicity push for recent comeback album, “Funplex.” The B-52s have a couple of pretty cool gigs coming up this week.
First, the Athens-born party band will make an appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien on Wednesday, Aug. 6, doing “Hot Corner” from “Funplex.”
The following night, they’ll be opening for the Police at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The show is being billed as the last-ever Police gig and it’s a benefit for New York Public Television. There’s more on the benefit gig here.
Did you see the B-52s in their latest run of shows? Did they still inspire you to dance this mess around?

I didn’t see the last tour but I was lucky enough to see them at a private corporate event on Maui in ‘99 (minus Cindy but w/a nearly identical sounding stand-in) and to this day it’s still in my top 5 concerts I’ve ever seen!
they are an absolute blast to see live (though the open bar & small venue probably didn’t hurt either) - if you get the chance you won’t regret seeing them!

I saw them last year at Chastain. They were absolutely fantastic and sounded the way they did 25 years ago when I grooved to their music in high school.

At first I liked them but now I realize they’re far too gay for my sensible taste.
In case you didn’t know it, they’re gay, and Kate Pierson is a practicing bisexual.
Song content is kind of fun and pleasing to the ears, though.

Average — That pleasing song content is how they get you! Your sensible taste might become corrupted with GAYNESS! Be careful if you listen to them…you might become GAY TOO!
Idiot.

I know many folks claim this, but I was at that Valentines Day party in Athens in1977(?) where they played for the second time…have seen them many many times and they are so consistently strong on stage.
The new album is incredible…if you don’t have it yet, get it now…you’ll be dancing around the house, the office, the car…my favorite cuts are Ultraviolet and Pump, followe by Eyes Wide Open… Why don’t these fun folks get more airplay?
Hey Cindy, don’t know if you are home right now, but if not, you have a new “city” waiting for you in Dunwoody!

I seen the B-52s at the Round House, Camden Town London, WOW, it was truly the best gig I have ever been to in my life, they were FAB. I have always wanted to see them for over 10yrs, and it was my dream come true. Fred was so quirky, Ricky played those sharp tunes on his gituar, Cindy just banged her bongos with passion and Kate sang her heart out and danced to the crazy beats. Wow Kate looked amazing in that cool green & black basque! It woud be absolutly amasing if I could see then proform live again. Thank you B-52s for one of the best nights of my life. A very happy fan, Denise(Cardiff, Wales,UK) XXXX

I saw the Bs play Manchester, Birmingham and London. The new album is just soooo good; putting out work this strong thirty plus years after your first album must be a source of great pride. The band sounded and looked great; they seemed to be having FUN as well, which cannot be said for too many bands today. I’d love them to come back to Europe; I’d see them as often as funds would allow.
I’m a happy boy!

I’ve got to see the B-52s a couple times during their FUNPLEX shows, they mix the older with the new so seamlessly, you can’t help but dance whatever mess around, their stuff still rocks, Keith Strickland has come up with some great music and the lyrics are always so cool, they just updated their sound(electronics) for today but they are Classic artists just doing what they do best!
