Nelly’s Coming To Atlanta Aug. 19 — For Free

photo2.jpg

Speaking of rapper-actor Nelly (in the last blog post here, that is), it has just been announced that he will perform a free concert here Aug. 19, at the Tabernacle.

The show is part of the second annual Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert series, where in addition to being able to see such notables as Mariah Carey, LeAnn Rimes and the Smashing Pumpkins for nothing, the sponsor hopes to entice you into one of their interactive phone booths to try out the Samsung Blackjack II.

Local radio stations V-103 and 95.5 The Beat are giving out tickets to its listeners, but you can also sign up for them HERE.

Salivating already over the often half-naked rapper? Does it seem like it’s taking a looong time for him to put out his new CD, “Brass Knuckles” — now scheduled to hit stores the same day as this show?

(See two of the four - count ‘em, FOUR videos — he’s released of singles from “Brass” already; plus Rick Ross’s “Here I Am”, which he contributes a rather nice verse to).

to the writer of this article (Ms. Murray?) please don’t take this the wrong way, but not everybody would salivate over Nelly…he hangs with strippers (allegedly), degrades women (in the past, at least) and in a nutshell, he really aint all that! He looks like a steroid-laced dancer, and I wouldn’t give him a dollar to save my life!….his image does nothing for the hip-hop industry except possibly bring it down even lower and I wish he would actually keep his clothes on AND say something that makes sense, even a little!…one love…

Get a life “A Lady with Values”!

Why did you have to take one word out of a rather inocuous post and start some foolishness? If you don’t like Nelly, why read the post? Find something better to do.

And if you’re so concerned about women being degraded, go talk to the women that these men talk about. Go to Strokers and tell them to put on some clothes. Go to the set of the latest video and work on the women there. Heck - go to the club this weekend and tell the trashy looking women to be more sophisticated.

Men can only do what women allow, so before you attack the man, you need to deal with your sistahs. If you’re wearing the uniform of a “Lady of the Night”, we’re going to treat you like…you guessed it…a “Lady of the Night”. If you demand respect, we’ll treat you that way.

Good Luck!

it’s not just the word, it’s the entire tone of the article. Nelly has recently been accused of having to take his clothes off to sell music. He didn’t act this way when he first came out. The article seems to be written very subjectively. It seems obvious that the writer really likes Nelly, and not just his music.

I used to like Nelly’s music a lot, and still don’t have a huge problem with him. But the truth is, why can’t he concentrate on making good music and keeping his clothes on? Yes, a lot of rappers walk around shirtless in their videos and it somewhat bothers me too. Are we buying music or porn? Just My Opinion.

And in regards to women, yes, I do have many conversations with all who wish to talk (civilly). And many times we come to mutual understanding. So there’s no need to be nasty and tell me to get a life. it’s Just My Opinion.

True that! Your opinion is your opinion and I can respect that!

Its my opinion that you use what you’ve got to get what you want. Nelly has worked very hard for his physique and if showing it off (without any indecency) will make him more money, go for it! Who am I to hate?

Rock on Mr. Country Grammar!

By the way, he’s fully-dressed in the photo.

Excuse me By The Lady but Nelly isn’t the first to take rapper to take his clothes to sell records. If recall the Hip Hop artist who call himself THE G.O.A.T. started all of this.

Nelly is a rapper whose job is to sell records. If his body gets him a few more sales then so what. “Lady” is way too judgemental. A man taking off his shirt is nowhere near porno. The women in his videos were all there by choice and were compensated so can all the ” hes degrading women” BS. He’s paying women to do what they have chosen to do. Him hanging out with strippers…well thats part of the industry. “Lady” is in too deep judging him on things that have nothing to do with his musical talent and is rankly none of her business.

Nelly is that deal and I’m old school I don’t promote prono but I do promote good talent and we all have a gift how it’s taken is on the individual people taken they clothes off since time began what are people going to do when clothes don’t matter anymore like as times are now no one will be able to afford them and people will be singing for freee cause money don’t have no value but gifts and talents do I LOVE NELLY

He does not have to show his body to sell cd’s. Nelly is the new model for Sean John underwear so we will see a lot more of that beautful body. There is nothing but half naked women on cd covers and videos. It’s about time the women get some eyecandy for a change!! And for the “Lady” who is offended by Nelly showing off his nice body, she can keep looking at the half naked women.

I am not a fan of rap music really. However, I do love to listen to Nelly. I started listening to his music when the Country Western bar would play a variety of music in between the band sets. And that man can take his shirt off any day for me!

everyone has a right to their opinion. sonia murray has hers, and a lady with values has hers. just because their opinion doesn’t agree with ours doesn’t mean we should disrespect them.
brothers…you all should be glad that there are women out there like “a lady with values”. she seems to be focused on substance and not symbols, which the corporate power structure has sold the current rap generation on. hip hop should be about 4 things: emceeing, DJing, B-boying & B-girling, and graffiti (art). all this bling bling, naked women, muscled up men, fine cars, etc. has NOTHING to do with hip hop.

the artist who i personally enjoy could have no beat behind them and still rock a party. that is true hip hop. i got nothing but love for nelly as my brother, but i cant call him a hip hop performer because he represents none of those values.
