Sugarland’s lawyer answers suit

Sugarland’s lawyer has issued a statement regarding the lawsuit brought by former member Kristen Hall seeking $1.5 million.
Gary Gilbert, the Los Angeles attorney for Sugarland’s Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles, released this through the band’s label publicist:
“This lawsuit is totally baseless and without merit. Among other factual inaccuracies suggested in the complaint, it is indisputable that Ms. Hall left the group voluntarily and on her own accord. We are absolutely confident that this matter will be resolved in favor of Jennifer and Kristian.”
For the background on the lawsuit, see earlier stories here and here.

It is fairly obvious that Ms. Hall was unhappy with herself as part of a country group on the rise—Sugarland. She didn’t fit in and she left. She receives royalties for “Twice the Speed of Life.” She should receive NOTHING MORE. She is still unhappy with her life and the lawsuit is her way of trying to negatively affect the reputation of Sugarland. She is a sad case. Sugarland is the greatest! She won’t be able to take them down an inch in popularity.

Next thing we know Vanessa Oliveria will be asking for royalties too since she was the lead singer BEFORE Jennifer Nettles

Of course there’s gotta be something more…
Some believe Kristen was pushed out of Sugarland because she’s openly gay. I tend to agree.
I have been a huge Sugarland fan from the beginning, but Kristen’s absence is strongly heard and felt on this 3rd album…I found it quite dull actually. It lacks the passion and guts that Kristen’s songwriting provided.
It’s unfortunate that “the powers that be” inside country music find women like Kristen, Natalie, Martie, & Emily such a threat…
Best of luck Kristen. I hope the dispute comes to a fair resolution.
