Bow Wow Starts “Walk Across America” Today In Atlanta
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
At noon today at the CNN Center, Atlanta rapper-actor Bow Wow will begin a multi-state initiative to promote voter registration, particularly among 18 to 30 year-olds.
Billed as “Walk Across America”, the 21-year-old will actually travel by foot and bus to atleast 12 other cities, where he will visit colleges, universities and radio stations through Oct. 15.
The Atlanta music mogul that gave Bow Wow his first record deal — Jermaine Dupri (above with Bow Wow and, yes, Alicia Keys, in an obviously early shot we included, just because…) — is expected to join him at the launch of his “walk” this afternoon. And his scheduled stops include the Fulton County Government Center, the Georgia State University Student Center and Georgia Tech.
“It’s important for the youth to participate because we’re tomorrow’s leaders,” the artist said in a press release. “We need to make sure that our voices are heard and [that we] have a say in the decisions that will affect our lives and our country for years to come.”
Bow Wow - who is planning to start his Follow The Leader foundation this year - has joined forces with nonpartisan organizations Declare Yourself and Black Youth Vote on this initiative.
(For a complete itinerary for each city, go to PrinceBow.com ).
Interested in meeting up with Bow Wow at the CNN Center - or somewhere else along the way? Have you gone to one of these celebrity-led voter drives and actually registered?

Everyday in the blogs the hate and racism shows up - Can we all just get along.
So what if we are voting on skin color! We have voted since “America allowed us to vote” based on issues and we (Blacks,African Americans, what ever the hell ever you want to call us) and what did it get us? Screwed is what we got, so why not vote for someone that looks like us. If we get screwed by him it will be no difference except he looked like us. You will complain and call us ‘lazy’ if we did not register to vote and now that we are you call us ‘ill imformed’ because it seems we are voting for Obama simply because he is black. So to sum it up - In America we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

Oh the anonymity of the Internet. Why not lift the veil and really say what you feel about the “distinct possibility” that someone of color will win the election?
And finally, if you really think that African Americans are the only ones in universal support for Obama because of his color, why pray tell were we so enthusiastic when Bill C. was re-elected?

I could careless about color…they are both Americans and that mean more than color. My problem is the lack of experience. Why can’t we discuss this aspect? Can someone please tell me what all Obama accomplished while in the senate? Through research you’ll notice very little. He often vote present not yes or no.
Also, look at the presidency as if we were hiring a CEO of a company. One’s resume is much stronger and experienced than the other. (The one has also crossed party lines to accomplish the greater good of our country.) Would you want someone with very little experience running a fortune 500 company? I think not. Just because he is charismatic and friendly doesn’t mean he has the capable of running the country.
As for Palin, she is a governor. Just like all presidents elected to office have been governors since JFK. As for her experience she runs her state. What has Obama ever run??

For the last 12 years registering the youth has always been a platform for celebrities. And they didn’t vote then, well they should now. With all the med-level paying jobs sent to India, I’m sure there are a lot of people mad, not just blacks. Also, I get tired of people saying were voting for Obama, just because he’s black…I’ve voted the last 6 times, and there was no African American on the balled.

As a educated Black female from Mississippi I personnally can NOT vote for Obama. 95% of all Blacks are said to be voting for Obama. People do NOT vote on color. Vote on the issues. Obama is Not the person to lead this country. Yes he has some great points but he is not for the Black people as he says and never has been. Look at his voting record ! Cnn.com. He voted NO on special housing for low income families, voted NO on Health care for the homeless people in his own state ! He is for himself people ! He even voted NO for prescription drug coverage for the elderly and wanted to put a cap on the overall coverage. We will be old one day too. I am a RN here in Atl. He wants to raise my taxes because I make over 42,000 YEAR. I have worked hard for it !!

It is really ashamed that most of the people on here have something negative to say. No one really knows which candidate is going to do a good job of leading this country. That is why you vote for the person YOU think will do a good job regardless of what Bow Wow is doing in the community. If you are racist that is your choice to be. Not everyone is voting for Obama just because he is black. It just so happens that the Democratic candidate this year is black and those who stick with their party will probably vote for him. Why don’t you stop worrying about what Bow Wow is doing and worry about what YOU are going to do on election day.

Sure is funny that when a black president is running it is all…lets go vote, blacks go vote. I could bet 75 percent of those people have no idea what these presidents even stand for. They just see skin color. Well HELLO….Obama is half white. There will still be WHITE in the white house. I think the blacks need to go back to Africa with their Ghetto hood selves. I want a president to end welfare, end projects, ent food stamps. You need to work for what you get. Everyone is all, we need blacks in office….you forget where the money comes for your welfare check for your fifteen fatherless kids…..FROM WHITEYS PAYCHECK. So check yourself before you “down whitey”. Also, do a quick spell check before you post here claiming to be so intelligent and know whats best for this country. So sad that the posting here are products of public school systems. Thank God I got my education from a private school and can actually spell bless, or ballot, or felons, or election for christ sakes.

This blog is extremely sad because people on here are missing the point. Bow Wow wants to get the youth register to vote. He did not say vote for this person or that person but just vote. To response to the negative talk about Obama especially you (NS), if I was hiring someone to run Fortune 500 company, I sure wouldn’t hire someone that can not send an email and is collecting Social Security. Yes, Obama does not have the experience but who has had the experience of becoming president without the oppportunity. The last 8 years have been hell ! We went to war for no damn reason and killing all our young soldiers for the person gain of an ignorant drunkard named George W. Bush. So if you can do better, why and the hell are you not running. More White people support Obama then Black people if you really want to be real about the situation. Just vote for who you think would do the best job leading our country and establishing a better relationship with the other countries that the dumb ass has ruined for us. I can’t vote for someone that is old enough to be my grandfather and that has running mate that doesn’t know anything.

DLAW,
I’m sure he would send an email if he were able. Yet, due to injuries from when he was hung from his wrist in a POW camp he is no longer able to type or even salute. As for voting white or black…they both are white.
If you are basing your Presidential decisions on age, and your assumption that the previous President - who is not eligible to run in this election - was not up to par, then you should have your voting privledges revoked for stupidity. If you do feel the need to vote for Senator Obama, fine…nuts…but don’t come crying on this blog when the economy tanks, our national security is compromised, and corruption in Washington increases. It’s people like you, claiming to be knowledgeable of the situation, that will wind up ruining this country.

You should listen to some “old folks” that collect social security once in a while, you might learn something. It’s sad that the media, democrats and youth of this country have decided that old age is a detriment and not a positive. In the first debate I heard a candidate with a wealth of experience, spanning decades and many administrations, talking about what he had learned, good and bad during his tenure in Washington. Being President of the United States is no joke and we need someone with experience and leadership. If you condemn George W. Bush for being a bad leader, you can site his lack of experience before taking office. Barack Obama makes GWB look like FDR.

Once again, assumptions are being made that people are voting based on skin color alone. Is it that crazy to believe that black people like Obama not only for his skin color, but also because of where he stands on the issues? Is it a stretch to see that Obama does represent all people, not just the wealthiest? It’s a really poor and ignorant assumption that black people are only voting for Obama because he is black. Are you only voting for McCain because he is white? No, I didn’t think so. So, don’t assume the same of black people.
You certainly don’t have to agree with the other side, but at least take the time to consider that the other side strongly believes in where Obama stands on the issues just as much as you believe in where McCain stands on the issues.

Some people are too ignorant for words. That’s exactly why we need change. Most people, especially, Black people have voted for the lesser of the evils (White men) for years and years and now that the lesser of the evils is a Black man, some of you are in an uproar. So, for those of you not voting for Senator Obama, is it because he’s Black. What’s the difference? Grow up and get yourself an education.
I’m not a big fan of Bow Wow, but I respect what he’s doing. It’s not about his never gone to college, it’s about a lot of his fans being college students and he’s asking them to please vote. Yes, I’m sure he wants them to vote for the guy he’s voting for, but so what. Isn’t that what people have been doing for years when it comes to registering American citizens to vote.
The hatred and inhumanity of some American citizens is beyond belief. We knew you people existed, and it’s good for you guys to show yourself because a new world is on the horizon and that vicious venom you spew will be put to rest. You will have no voice because the rest of us will be busy taking this country into the future and equipping ourselves with knowledge to compete globally.
This race is about intelligence vs ignorant, digital thinking vs analog thinking. Our country has become very youth oriented, and these youth have not had the same racist, inhumane experiences that the older of us have had. So, their perspective and opinions are more progressive. And that’s why we need them to vote and vote for the candidate who wants to see this country thrive and be healthy and educated and confident.
That $800 billion bailout crises didn’t just happen. It’s been going on for years, but the greed and selfishness has come to a point where it can’t be hidden anymore. It happened because the American citizens are uneducated, unhealthy and lacking in so many areas which allows the government to take advantage of them. The wealthy few want you to remain ignorant so they can continue taking advantage of you and becoming richer and richer. And you guys come on these blogs showing your ignorance while you’re losing your homes, your jobs and have no access to healthcare. And you still don’t get it. The wealthy love you for your ignorance. Your perspective and opinion rarely come from a place of intelligence. It’s always hateful gibberish.
And if you know Black people and you obviously don’t, they don’t vote for each other just because. Black people can be harder on themselves than anyone else can. You have to really prove yourself for them to support you. Senator Obama’s being Black is just a perk for Black people, they’re not voting because of skin color. They don’t even support their community’s businesses. Some of you people are just disgruntled and bent out of shake because you want to hold onto your ignorance. That’s how ignorance works.
When Black people vote and rally others to vote, that’s a problem. When Black people don’t come out to vote, that’s a problem. Black people have achieved and contributed to the world just like every other culture, but the American government doesn’t teach about that in their educational system and it’s a shame. Black people learn about White people, but white people don’t learn about Black people, other than what they see on TV which doesn’t show the diversity. People are people. We have the same needs, joys and pains. The cultures may be different, but the needs are the same. And how we go about meeting those needs are the same. White people don’t always understand this because the racism in this country has deformed their thinking. Racism and the slave trade system warped the thinking of both Blacks and Whites in this country.
You can’t do the same things and expect different results. So that’s why a lot of people are voting for Senator Obama, they’re trying to do something different to yield different results. Only the intelligent among us understands this concept.

McCain is veryt flawed as a president, I can admit that but Obama supporters think he can do no wrong. Is that because they want to have the government support them.

Both of these dudes are flawed. All of us are flawed. However, one of the flawed wants to do things differently and since all of the flawed ones before did things the same, we’re thinking of going with a different type of flaw.

As I listen to Senator Obama speak yesterday in Wisconsin he states that he will make sure a plan is in place for MIDDLE CLASS AMERICA in the Bail Out Package. Someone needs to inform the EMPTY SUIT that MIDDLE CLASS AMERICA is the Bail Out Package. As long as you are not on welfare or an illegal immigrant receiving a FREE montly check, FREE medical benefits and FREE housing you must go to work (as an employee as well as a small business owner) everyday and pay your taxes and your own way because NO ONE is going to Bail you out. He also proposes to cut taxes for 95% of Middle America, National Health Care, rebuild infrastructure, build new schools, lower the cost of college education, 500 billion for new energy programs just as a start. Cut taxes and increase spending…..the last time I heard or read of a miracle of that magnitude was when Jesus fed the multitude with only 5 fish and 5 loaves of bread……..Amen.

You know what, I think people are really afraid that a very intelligent, ivy league educated man of intergrity, who happens to be African American, who has lived on both sides of the coin (black/white)poses a threat of actually doing some good for all AMERICANS. Something that hasn’t been done in a very long time. Get over it! That Whitehouse will soon be painted Black!!! And we’re proud of it!

I VOTED - yes - ALREADY - SEPT 24th and I voted for Sen. Obama because he is the best person for the job. He is the best person to bring our country back to the status of being the world’s most dominant leader to our friends and allies.
Why? Because of:
His work on health insurance for children in Illinois; His work on the Immigration Bill during his time in the US senate; His work on Ethics legislation.
AND, if that is not enough -
His record in the Senate: 233 bills on healthcare and public health. 125 bills to combat poverty and provide public assistance. 112 bills on crim, corrections and the death penalty. 97 Bills on the economy, business and finance. 62 Bills on education. 60 bills on civil and human rights. 35 bills on infrastructure. 21 Bills on ethics. 21 on Adminstration. 20 on environment. 15 on gun control. 6 on military and veterans affairs and one on immigration. That’s a whole lotta legislating goin’ on!
Over all he has sponsored 570 bills, 15 of which have become law since he joined the Senate. He amended 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate.
He is extremely educated AND accomplished.
Don’t get mad because your candidate and his running mate are just (yup, yup) poor excuses of leadership PERIOD!

I’m not voting for Obama because I don’t want higher taxes. I really don’t care what color he is. I’d rather keep more money in my pocket.

It is 2008 people! Wake up! I am Black woman, and I would like to set the record straight. I am in my 30’s and I have voted in every election since I turned 18. And guess what I do not claim to be a Democrat! I am a very liberal person and would lean more toward being an independent. I have researched the policies of both Obama and McCain, I have listened to every interview and read every report that I could find on both. I have visited the websites of both candidates many times before making a decision on which candidate would get vote. Please do not assume that all Black people are uneducated (I have a degree) and are so shallow as to vote for someone based upon the color of their skin. On November 4th I will cast a ballot based upon all the research that I have done and be firm that the decision I have made was not an easy one, but the correct one. And yes, I will be voting for the Obama/Biden ticket but is once again based upon his policies and not the color of his skin. Stop making everything about skin color!

I am a single black 30 something female.(For the ignorant people who’ll try to find fault with the above: NO I don’t have any children, YES I not only have a full time job but am a small business owner, YES I have a home and two cars, and NO I’m not overweight or unattractive). I like a lot of people want to live a happy productive “American Dream”. BUT Some people can’t get a job because GWB has allowed companies to benefit from sending those job overseas (Carlton!).
If any of you would take the time to do as I did and compare the two candidates side by side on the issues you would know that Obama was the better of the two. I don’t believe you can run a country on the experience of just being a POW. However, you’d rather pick a man who wouldn’t even try to raise the min. wage by TWO DOLLARS! His wife flaunts a $300K dollar outfit on stage which says to anyone who is struggling - screw you! And knowing that McCain has had several bouts with cancer and his VP pick is as ignorant as they come - to vote for him would be worse than a bad Disney movie (thanks Matt Damon)!!
Had Barack Obama not been the candidate of choice for the Democratic party I would have still voted for Hilary Clinton…but I guess then you ill informed people would say women were just voting for her because she is a woman. I think some people will find any excuse to feel better about their hate.
Some of you are so filled with HATRED you’d rather hand this country over to an old man and a dimwitt than see an intelligent BLACK man as President. WOW and this is 2008!! God Help US and God Bless America!

It’s amazing that no matter what the black youth try to do, they are constantly being condemned. Bow-wow may not be educated on the facts of this election but at least he is doing something. I don’t see Paris Hilton or Britney Spears doing a voter registration drive for the youth. And that’s okay if they don’t. But at least allow him the opportunity to do something positive and get the youth registered to vote, no matter who they vote for.
