Keith Sweat Enters Reality TV W/Dru Hill
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta R&B singer/syndicated radio personality Keith Sweat has teamed up with the folks fortunate enough to have cameras in the Bobby Brown/Whitney Houston household, to bring back - he hopes - Dru Hill.
The one-hour special is called “Keith Sweat’s Platinum House,” and it’s set to air Feb. 23 on Peachtree TV.
In short, the gist of the show is Sweat has the R&B group move to Atlanta and live together for 30 days to (again, hopefully) resolve their differences; and maybe, just maybe, start working on their first album together since 2002.
“My purpose in producing ‘Platinum House’ stems from my history with R&B groups of the late ‘80s and ‘90s,” Sweat (pictured above, far left) says in a press release. “Many of these groups consisted of some very talented individuals, but they also seem to have their problems. They have a lot of anger and frustration that they need to release. Although there were many solo careers launched from these various groups, none of the solo careers were ever as big as the success they achieved as a group. My goal is to help groups like Dru Hill (picture above, from l to r: Jazz, Nokio, Sisqo and Tao) get back together and rekindle the magic. The public wants it, and the music industry needs it.”
Would you like to see — literally — Dru Hill get back together on this show? (See a YouTube clip of their talked-about reunion/break-up at a radio station BELOW). What do you think caused the split — Sisqo’s solo success or Woody’s departure? Happen to catch them last month at V-103’s “Wanda Smith & Friends”?

I guess Keith has come to terms with the fact that his own music career is pretty much over…

Actually I disagree with you on that.Keith Sweat music will forever be hits and music that people will always listen to even if don’t make new music. It’s like playing Michael Jackson,Luther Vandross,Teddy Pendegras,Al Greene,Zapp & Roger(Computer Love)etc.

I wonder if Keith will allow his sons to appear on his reality show. Remember, he didn’t want his sons to appear on “The Desperate (oops, I meant “The Real”) Housewives of Atlanta with his ex-wife, their mom, Lisa Wu Sweat Hartwell.

I THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. KEITH IS RIGHT WHEN HE SAYS THERE WERE SO MANY GROUPS OUT DURING THE 80’S & 90’S WITH A GREAT SOUND. I HOPE HE ACCOMPLISHES HIS GOAL WITH DRU HILL AND BE INSPIRED TO DO THE SAME FOR GUY, JODECI, AND 112.

Becky, I guess you have never heard of these people, why would we think so. Sometimes its good to go outside the box. I have heard of musicians from all walks of life and various music because I know that I will be cheating myself if I don’t explore all types of music.

THEY’RE BRINGING BACK NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK… WHY NOT!

Justin, I was wondering the SAME THING in regards to the kids. If he allows them to be on this show, then we know he was just trying to be vindictive towards Lisa. I guess since she was on a show, he had to try and top what she was doing. At least the “Housewives” were on Bravo! Too bad no one outside of Atlanta will be able to see the show…Good Luck Keith and I hope Dru Hill get it together b/c they were an awesome group. I still dont understand why they got into a fight at a radio station…so d*mn immature!!! :-D

Dont feel bad Becky, there are a folks I never heard of. For example I listen to NO rap so I could not tell LiL Wayne from Soldja Boy. Or 50cent from the Game. Strickly 60s 70s 80s man and I dont feel I missed out on folks who were just not Huge. Keith Sweat was popular in mid 80s but he was no where near on the scale of Michael jackson, Marvin Gaye, Al Greene or Lionel Richie nor Luther Vandross. Hes an OK. singer whos music (called the Begging Crooner) didnot sit on top of the Pop Charts. But there are countless pop rock stars I never heard of either, does that make me not know music? Of course not. Truth be told if you werent one of the Top male artists I mentioned above folks probably never heard of you. Look at Dee Dee Warwick who was roughly the same age as Diana Ross but few people even heard of Dee Dee Warwick who sang on many a hit and song for her sister, as well as the Drifters and Aretha Franklin but jus could never hit real big like her sister although immensnly talented. (Foolish fool a song of the 70s was her biggest solo hit and I bet almost none of you heard of it.(Youtube is a great Place to learn all of these Forgotton talented artists) I blame bad management and small record companies who probably could not afford to promoter their artists Like Motown Or Atlantic. Clive Davis Arista etc.And even Motown had artists that suffered in the shadows of giants like The Supremes overshadowing the Marvelettes or Vandellas, or The Temptations over shadowing the Contours or the Spinners. this goes on quite a bit in the music world. Many artists can sing their butts off, yet few folks ever even heard of them..sad but true.

the album ‘Make It Last Forever’ is a first ballot ghetto Hall of Fame classic - EVERYBODY was bumping that joint when it came out - real talk - Keith is also very underrated as a live performer - he was on tour with Salt-n-Pepa when his aforementioned first album came out and he flat-out stole the show from the female rappers

Becky…no one cares who you listen too or what you watch on T.V. I think the consenus is pretty clear… if you are not interested in the show or the groups, why bother commenting? Why give your opinion on something you know nothing about?

Exactly Blkshepherd. Chante Moore is a great talent but she fell by the wayside due to p** poor A&R people that didn’t have her best interest at heart. Other artist like Aaron Hall, Deborah Cox, & El DeBarge met the same fate. I pray for the day we get back to real R & B music. I truly believe it’s on the upswing.

I PERSONALLY FEEL AS THOUGH, DRU HILL WAS A PRETTY GOOD GROUP BACK IN THE DAY, BUT HOW WILL A TV SHOW ABOUT WASHED R&B GROUPS HELP THEM SELL RECORDS, KEITH. DRU HILL’S LAST ALBUM WENT DOWN HILL BECAUSE NO ONE REALLY CARES FOR SISQUO. HE’S SECOND ALBUM DIDN’T DO GOOD EITHER. NOW A TV SHOW! WHAT NEXT, THE TEMPTATIONS, AND THE FOUR TOPS. I WISH THEM THE BEST THOUGH. MAYBE THEY’LL GET A RECORD DEAL AGAIN. FIRST NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, DRU HILL OF ALL GROUPS. I GUESS ANYTHING TO STAY TV, RIGHT SISQUO. BESIDES, JAZZ LOOKS TIRED OF DOING THE GROUP THING NOW. HE DON’T EVEN DO LEADS ANYMORE. EVERY NEW MEMBER THAT THEY ADD TO THE GROUP REALLY REPLACES JAZZ. JUST LIKE SCOLA DID WHEN HE WAS IN THE GROUP. THAT PROBABLY WHY THEY GOT RID OF HIM, OR BECAUSE WHEN HE WAS ADDED TO THE GROUP DRU HILL WASN’T POPULAR THEN, SO THOUGH BLAMED SCOLA. HE WAS ACTUALLY THE BEST SINGER IN THE GROUP BESIDE JAZZ. WHY ISN’T SISQUO DO ANYMORE SOLO PROJECTS? I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHY, AS WELL AS HE DOES. SINGING SONGS LIKE “GET LOOSE” THAT KEITH SWEAT MAY HAVE WRITTEN AND ARRANGED DEFINITELY WON’T GET YOU GUYS OF DRU HILL A PLATINUM RECORD. BUT HEY ITS WORTH A SHOT. MUSIC HAS CHANGED…. SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE BY, GUY, JODECI , NEXT, INTRO, JAGGED EDGE, 112, BLACKSTREET, MANISH, AND H-TOWN. ALL WERE HOT GROUPS BUT IT’S 2009 NOT 1999.

I am a big DRU HILL fan and you could not tell me that the song Beauty wasn’t made for me, as did every other girl who heard it. I like Keith Sweat, and I think if anyone can pull it off and get these guys to get over themselves and start making good music he can. He went from a successful singing career and was part of a platinum selling supergroup LSG, and if you can work with two other artist who are already superstars and put your egos aside and create that kind of music, you must have a plan.

I’m hoping someone in the Atlanta area can answer this for me and friends….This is a Atlanta Housewives question: What year did Keith Sweat marry Lisa Wu? and what year did they divorce? Finally if her businesses are/were so sucessful, and she is a household name, how come America never heard of her, before his show.
Did she remain a resident of Atlanta after her divorce from Keith?
How/why did she lose custody of her children.
What kind of man is Keith Sweat? I ask this because when you live in a town/city here lots of celebrities live you not only hear, but you see things.
Finally on this abuse issue. Why now is she just coming out with this? And why isn’t the mother of his two daughters supporting Lisa’s claim of Keith abuse.
Not to mention prior girlfriends!
Inquiring minds what to know.
