Usher and Jennifer Nettles To Perform At Inaugural Concert

000usher-barack-kerry-thumb.jpg

lvgrammy+nettles-1.JPG

Atlanta’s five-time Grammy winner - and early Barack Obama supporter — Usher (pictured above with the president-elect, and actress Kerry Washington), along with fellow local Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (second photo), of Sugarland, will join Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and others at “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial”.

Billed as the opening celebration for the 56th Presidential Inaugural, it is free, open to the public, and scheduled to air at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 on HBO - on an open signal that should allow all with cable/satellite to see it.

In addition to the performances — which will also include Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, John Mellencamp, Shakira, James Taylor and Stevie WonderJamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington will read historical passages.

“Our intention is to root the event in history, celebrating the moments when our nation has united to face great challenges and prevail,” executive producer George Stevens, Jr. said in the press release. “We will combine historical readings by prominent actors with music from an array of the greatest stars of today.”

“This is a great opportunity to capture an historic event in a very meaningful setting,” added producer/director Don Mischer in the release. “We will have the statue of Abraham Lincoln looking down on our stage and a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people lining the mall - a tableau any director would relish.”

“We have found that the great artists are eager to take part and each one is working with us to find music that expresses the optimism and hope that people bring to the Obama inauguration,” said producer/writer Michael Stevens.

Do you plan to watch - or perhaps, see it live? If so, what performance are you most looking forward to?

What we will do for blacks these days is ridicules. They don’t work, they don’t go to school, they take our money, they steal from us, they all lie, and now they will run this country into the ground like its churches chicken. The next for years will be a joke. There is a reason no black person has ever successfully run a country.

I thought black names had to have thug guys names end with an “E” and girls end in an “A?” They have to be different ya know? My absolute favorite is when they wear hats with a flat bill with the tag and sticker on it. Cracks me up. Makes them look so stupid!

… And one day there will come a leader, and we wil not define him by his skin color, but by his inspiration of others, and the words that he uses to inspire others to greatness. This is how we defined Jesus, not by his religion or shortcomings, and not by the skin color of our next president, but by how they inspired the rest of us, regardless of our differences. C’mon, and get on board. It’s much easier than exercising the hate that so many of you still can’t get past, despite your ‘religious’ upbringing.

Sounds like some people have sour grapes on this board…get over it!

While you bash people of color, let’s not forget it was one of ‘our own’ who put the country in the terrible shape it’s in right now.

You have to admit, it’s an ugly picture: two wars, a recession, highest jobless rate in years and record foreclosures.

Don’t forget, a president doesn’t shape the country. Congress does. Guess who’s running Congress? Yup. Liberals.

Color or not, Obamas faults will be brushed under the rug, not blamed on him like Bush and everyone elses. Seems pretty racist to me.

If Bush can abdicate responsibility for 9/11, then we have relatively little to worry about concerning Obama. As much we’d all like to, you can’t have it both ways…

Sadly, some are so caught up in their racist rhetoric that they cannot see the real issue. Obama’s election was not was a race thing that happened, it was a class thing. Working class folks have been left behind during the Bush years as tax cuts benefited the wealthy. Obama’s election is a taking back of this country by working people who want equity and fairness in laws and services. Some the ones who spew their racist comments are the ones being laid off, facing foreclosure, seen their 401k lose values, etc. They will be the ones who benefit and yet they are not smart enough to get it.

In these very difficult and desperate times I find it hard to understand why some folk are still so focused on divisive thoughts. These are times when we all need to take a step back from our selfish ways and use that energy in a positive way. Here we have silly comments about hats who I assume are being made by adults when the world is crumbling around us. We all have our differences but we are more alike than many would like to believe.

I for one am very glad we finally have a person of color in the White House. I’M JUST NOT GLAD IT’S OBAMA. I also would love to see a woman as president. I say all this to say that I am very glad that our country has gotten to the point where we will allow a person of color or a woman to take the highest office in the world. BUT…why did we elect OBAMA? He is without a doubt the MOST UNQUALIFIED president this country has ever had. What exactly is everyone so excited about concerning his issues? Check his voting record he was by far the MOST LIBERAL voting member of congress. He voted to raise taxes on the people dozens of times… CHECK THE RECORD. This man not only voted numerous times for pro-abortion issues, but he also took that way further to the extreme that if a baby survives a botched abortion, that baby should die ANYWAY. Why is that OBAMA? Why must a baby that SURVIVES an abortion attempt still be murdered?? Folks, I am not making it up…CHECK THE RECORD. Also…this man has friends that are in some pretty shady areas…2 preacher friends that are racist and anti- American, a terrorist that bombed govt buildings in the 60s…and a man in Chicago that sold him his million dollar plus house as part of a sweetheart deal for looking the other way on some shady real estate dealings. AND WE WANT THIS MAN TO BE PRESIDENT?? OBAMA has already stated that he will raise our taxes…he wants this extra TRILLION dollar stimulis package that he says will “jump start America and create jobs” have you checked into what he really wants in this so called stimulus package?? There is actually very little in the package that would stimulate anything in our economy..it is actually a package that pays back alot of his campaign donors with money that will enrich their business, and interests. And some of it will appease the far left loonies by giving them their “green projects” and global warming money. BTW have you check the temps around the country and the worl these past few weeks? Our overall winter temps are record lows!!! WHAT GLOBAL WARMING??? Ah, but thats yet another scam isn’t it? Anyway, very little of this so called stimulus will go to anything for job creation. CHECK THE RECORD. This is nothing more than a scam to get projects through that OBAMA wants and he will piggyback all of it on the backs of hard working tax payers and small business who will no doubt have to lay off workers just to pay the higher payroll taxes. This is not stimulus people!! You never stimulate an economy with higher taxes and burden the small business to a point where they have to lay off people. To get out of a depression like we are in…YOU CUT TAXES and stay the heck out of the way of business and the consumers wallets. You want to encourage job growth by making it as easy as possible for business to hire people. Why would you raise taxes and talk about spending TRILLIONS when we are in a depression?? The government can’t spend it’s way out of a depression…the government doesn’t have any money..the government can only spend what we give them (through taxes). Why isnt the government talking about cutting back on it’s spending??? You and I both know that the government spends our money foolishly and unwisely. Why are they asking for more??? Why arent they cutting back on the programs they already have? Not to mention all of the pork projects and the stupid things they spend our money on just to pay back campaign donors that helped them out. WAKE UP PEOPLE and smell the truth here. The government should not be raising our taxes (and if you think they arent then explain to me WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO GET THIS TRILLION DOLLARS OBAMA IS ASKING FOR?) The government doesn’t make money it only takes money from you and me…and when they need this extra money taxes will have to go up..it is just that simple. I could just go on and on here…THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS..I AM GLAD THERE IS A PERSON OF COLOR IN THE WHITE HOUSE…I JUST WISH THIS PERSON WAS SOMEONE OF GOOD CHARACTER AND INTEGRITY…our country needs that person right now…where are they and why did the media give this man such a pass…? This man is the most UNDERQUALIFIED of all all-time to run as president!!

Obama is a great orator - no one can deny that - but can he live up to the hype? - can he live up to the billing? - I haven’t seen hype like this since Lebron was in High School and Lebron was able to live up to the hype but Obama would have to become the world’s greatest politician/statesman of all time in order to live up to the expectations of people worldwide who are expecting him to break out a magic wand and fix everything - his biggest immediate challenges are the economy and his plan is flawed - printing money will only prolong this recession - his other major challenge has to do with the middle east and his plan to go into Afghanistan will prove to be a mistake as well - I support him as we all should but we have to be realistic as well

Oh yeah..PLEASE someone explain to me why is this man is qualified to be president? He’s never owned a business, never had employees, no connections or relationships with foreign leaders (and no I’m not counting that worldwind “fact finding” silly 2 week trip he took just before the election) You don’t get world educated in just 2 weeks..thats like taking the cliff notes in highschool to pass a test. Only been a senator for what 2 years? And what before that? A community organizer?? Did any of the media outlets ever do any investigating into just what was he orgainizing and whether any of it was a success? Heck no..they wanted George Bush out of office so bad, they didn’t care…they gave this man a full blown pass!!! And don’t get me wrong I am NOT a George Bush supporter…that man could not get out of office fast enough for me. But people…he was leaving office anyway, why did we have to replace him with the most under-qualified person of all time to run for office?? OK, so those of you that are OBAMA kool-aid drinkers…tell me now…WHAT HAS OBAMA ACTUALLY DONE IN HIS PAST OR WHEN HE WAS IN CONGRESS THAT WOULD MAKE YOU THINK HE WAS QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT??? Go ahead and tell me…WHAT? Anything? WHAT YOU SAY? RAISE TAXES (CHECK), PRO-ABORTION? (CHECK), PRO PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION? (CHECK)…what else? mmmmm..I’m waiting…SO..SINCE HE REALLY DID NOTHING…WHERE DO PEOPLE GET ALL OF THIS “HOPE” AND “CHANGE” CRAP? I would love to see a person of color or a woman as president..but JUST GIVE ME ONE THATS QUALIFIED!!! I think the people that voted for OBAMA have been suckered into some kinda “EVERYTHINGS GONNA BE GREAT NOW…” crap. You’ll see people. We deserved more than this…at this time in our nation’s history we needed more than this. Oh, well..we will reap what we have sowed wont we?

LEASE someone explain to me why is this man is qualified to be president? He’s never owned a business, never had employees, no connections or relationships with foreign leaders…

Just like Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, etc. The strength of our democracy to this point lies in two main things:

1) Qualifications for elected office do not include “agrees with my politics.” Whatever of Obama’s views you disagree with, none of them are disqualifications for the office.

2) We get in line behind our Presidents.

It would be a tragedy if the bigots and their ilk choose not to get behind our President because they disagree with him. Unlike Bush, his election was never in question — he won fair and square the first time. No recounts, no Supreme Court, just a good clean win.

Also remember that it’s sedition to speak ill of the President during wartime, and that the wars will not end on Tuesday when Bush leaves office.

Unfortunately, MOST of these AJC comment boards seem to attract racist and bigoted comments, no matter the story, not a surprise…I realized after Obama was elected, that the MINORITY of white folks that come out screaming this vitriol about Obama and blacks, were only misdirecting their anger. They’re really angry at other whites, for they were the ones that truly came out to support and elect Obama. Let’s see, we’re in a country that is overwhelmingly white, but one which elected its first black president. So these “hating, sore losers” which are in the MINORITY, don’t have the fortitude to direct their hatred towards the TRUE source of their hatred: other whites. They’ll rather extrapolate the minority and stereotypical elements of black people or culture and make a point that the majority of other white don’t even share about blacks. It’s time for change in many areas, I’ll only summarize what we (blacks) need to do: Stop being so sensitive about what the vast minority of white racists are saying. The majority of white folks like the majority of black folks, are similar in that we want safe neighborhoods, good education and opportunity.

Sorry JUST LIKE RON, lets not forget that Ronald Reagan was in fact the Governor of California a state that has like the world’s 16 largest economy. Think of the millions of people he governed over and the thousands of empoloyees he had under his office. The billions of dollars of budgets he was responsible for. He also was in charge of the Calif. Nat’l guard a military bigger than most smaller countries. And OBAMA has done…WHAT? Oh, yeah..you forgot in your eagerness to respond to me to even say one thing he has done to qualify for president…oh well..guess you were too busy calling me a BIGOT..and why? Just because I dont believe your guy is qualified? I told you it has nothing to do with race…he just isn’t qualified. Get it through your head. NOT QUALIFIED. WAKE UP —

You are still not understanding it, as you have demonstrated by your poor analogy. If the dog catcher down the street had been legally elected by the Electoral College, then yes he would be qualified. We are a democracy, and that’s at the heart of what that word means. The root of the word democracy itself mean “of the people”; you will not find a root of the word democracy that means “i like his politics” or “was governor of a large state.”

So let me say again that discussing his so-called qualifications is fodder for the election season. Determining why he is qualified for the office was set forth in the Constitution by the Founders. The Founders said that getting legally elected is the qualification for the office.

I’m not smarter or wiser than the Founders. Are you?

If they would just read the facts, research the facts, and not take what the media feeds them at face value. His record is there. Are you going to argue with that? Thank you, Wake up People! You are so right! This man can do nothing to help this country…that is in the hands of congress…which is liberal! Things were great until the change in congress. And let’s talk about the partial birth abortion issue! What a horrible thing to put an innocent baby through. Do the research and find out what happens during a partial birth abortion! And then kill them if they survive! I CANNOT believe anyone who says they are a true Christian voted for this man!!!!! He supports killing our babies..and the joke is on the black community because over 40% of abortions performed in this country are black. He is helping to kill his own race. Also, he supports homosexuality! Both are against everything the Bible teaches! Yet, he wants to close G-Bay because it’s inhumane and let the people who want to kill us? Explain the logic in that to me? I’m just sitting back to watch the show…I hope we survive the next 4 years. I think the end is near and God is running out of patience with us (homosexuality & murdering innocent babies). Think about that the next time you are in church!

Reading these comments are funny. Comon guys…Stop arguing about this and that. The man is President and thats that. Qualified or not. Hopefully he can and will do what said while campaining and I hope that if not he is held accountable for it. Im white, I voted for McCain. Not bc I didnt want to see a black man as president but bc the guy is way too liberal for me. Hell he is half white for that matter so if I had any racist thoughts I would be racist against myself too. What irritates me is all the things out there for the minority. Black History month, grants, Martin Luther King day, BET, Black Miss America, Civil rights leaders…on and on. To me that seems to divide us even more. And then I read yesterday in the AJC that Georgia NAACP renews call for slavery apology. Good GRIEF! Are you kidding me? I tell you who needs an apology more than anyone else…those who are descent from those who suffered the Holocaust. Anyone who has ever studied that tragic event I hope would feel stupid for expecting anything special about their race! The point is whatever race, religion, or sex, we are each individually responsible for our actions. Only we can change what we dont like. We need to be held accountable for our actions and stop blaming our faults on society and being suppressed. Everyone is capable of doing whatever they want. This election is proof!

EM - you will never understand what it is to be black. Its a mentality given to blacks, by slavemasters (not you), and it has been handed down to generations. Get off of your high horse thinking that everything is OK in America and that racism does not exist, and we don’t need these programs… Some of the educated blacks like Barack “get it”, but other don’t.
We needed this change, we needed to zoom out to see possibilities, even you pal.

Maybe this is the chance that minorities needed, and if it is, then all races will benefit from it because the playing field will be leveled, the world will be flat… or maybe not. On the other hand some would be depressed, because there will be no one to make fun of or oppress, who would be the lower class. You better get onboard now because what a world it will be when minorities are the majority… change is coming buddy.

Do you thugs know that Obama is only 6.25% black? Don’t believe me? Google it. 50% white, 43.75% Muslim. I love how all of the thugs are so excited about the first “black” president and he is not even black. He is more white then anything. This country will NEVER have a 100% black president. Plus, after 4 years, whitey will be back in office I assure you.

Some of us are looking for the president-elect to be captain save america. Some of us are having a hard time facing the fact that there is a biracial human being in office. If you really look at it, race doesn’t have a thing to do with being able to effectviely lead a country with a sad past such as America. As a matter of fact it’s one of the reasons (because of America’s prejudical history) that we are in the shape we are in today.

Well News Flash, will be sure to check out your numbers… (yawn) but in the meantime. Obama has certainly shared in the black experience because when you look at him you see a black man. I for one am proud not only because I have no doubt that he will be an effective leader of our country but also because I can look at his wife and children and see a family that looks like my own for the first time. You wouldn’t understand that because you’ve never had to. Go read a book or do something constructive with your mind and your time.

Iknow said, Bush (white man) cronies etc. put us in Hell on earth, not a black man.

Iknow, you have not seen the hell you are about to see and its not Black and white. When the Democratic Party took over Congress two years ago everything went to hell…gas, jobs everything went sky high, etc…They Congress did nothing for two years but cut Bush down with the help of the media. Now we all will pay…I just pray I’m wrong.

Wake up people 9:12 am. Great blog with great wisdom and common sense.

I served in Army 1966-1972. War and hard times. Be careful what you wish for!!! I pray for my Country everyday and its leaders. I believe we have forgot what Pres. John F Kennedy said.”Ask not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for your Country.” I believe most people today have that backward, looking for a hand-out.God Bless The USA!!

Famous words from R.F.Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” For all those who are waiting to see Obama to fall flat on his face, it will be partly due to to those who are complaining but are not helping to solve the problem. And for those who are ignorant of the African-American experience, I recommend for you to read ‘A Stolen Legacy’ (P.S. Have a dictionary to help you - being that it was written by a “thug”.) Peace.

The Inaugural Party cost $80 Million, what a waste of tax payers money.

Bill - Remember, this is NOT the first Inaugural Party. Just the first one for a black president. Don’t complain about the cost now!

News Flash is right. There will NEVER be a 100% black man elected president because all the white women are having babies by black men. Take is a step further – pretty soon, there won’t be any more 100% white men elected either. Funny isn’t it?
