Prize explainer
Every time we post a topic this summer — like Best Barbecue in the Big A — we’ll tell you the prize. For this topic, it’s a new DVD set of the hit TV series “Mad Men.” (Other topics will have different prizes.) To qualify, just post your nomination. At the end of one week (in this case, 7:30 a.m. on July 21), we’ll pick a number using a random number generator. If the number is 87, then the 87th post wins the prize.
In order to get your prize, though, you have to be registered with a valid email so we can contact you. No valid email, no prize. In that case we just move to the next post. So if you’re logged in as nobody@nowhere.com, no DVD set for you.
And this is important: For each topic, the prize goes to someone who posts in the first week. But the nominations are open until Sept. 3. So keep nominating!
A complete set of contest rules can be found here.

Top 3 BBQ joints in Atlanta. In my mind they are interchangeable and the exact rating depends on what you are looking for.
1) Pig n Chick - Best Sauce 2) Fox Bros - Best Brisket and good smoke 3) Harold’s - Best Smoke

The VERY best barbeque ANYWHERE is George & Jan’s, served in OUR backyard, but to be eligible for the contest, I still say Sonny’s is good pork bbq and if you are traveling, you know what to expect. I hate to try a new place, only to be disappointed - but Harold’s IS good too and the sandwich at Shane’s with peach iced tea is wonderful!!! I wished there were more Old Hickory Houses!!! Their gourmet bbq sandwich is great!!!!! I LOVE real pork barbeque!!! (i spell it with a Q!!) And IF you are grilling, you are grilling, you are NOT “having a barbeque” if you are not slow smoking, and our choice is a big butt, with our own rub. Happy Trails!!!!!

Maddy’s not only has the best BBQ, but the best blues and staff. Thursday nights is my favorite night to see very young up and coming Atlanta blues artists under the direction of the very talented Chicago Joe. Ask Joe’s beautiful wife to get your name on his mailing list. Don’t forget the best mac and cheese, rum beans and potato salad to go along with the tender ribs and chicken. The $2.00 beer specials are just what you need to add the final touch. Music starts at 7PM, perfect for working professionals. Kids are always welcome and what better influence than other kids involved in music. The crowd is cool which makes this a great place to network and have a great time.

Jim & Nicks on South Cobb Dr. @ East West Connector has the best barbeque ribs in the South. No one can touch them. The baby backs slide off the bones and the sauce is excellent. You can tell that the ribs are slow cooked over a barbecue grill (no pre-boiling). They are cooked all the way on a grill. The sides are outstanding, also.

WW Boss’s Bar-b-Que has the best barebeque in atlanta. It is succulent and falls right off the bone. The sauce just adds to it. It is located in Lithonia (moving from its old location in Decatur) and convenient to I-20. I love their pulled pork sandwhiches and they even have old fashioned splits with great chilli.
