It’s more common than you might think. I’d say Starbucks is a safe bet.

We hired a copy editor? Cool. Maybe they will assign that person to me full time to correct all my mistakes. It’s a full time job.

Phil…I can only critique you because I used to be in the newspaper business in Carrolton and I made my share of mistakes. You guys overall do a good job.

Who really knows? Just remember its either not them in the picture, or it’s a picture from ten years ago when they were still attractive. Now you are sitting this nice resturant with a lady that is about 230lbs, and now sports a mullet. WTF. I am jumping out the window.

If you’re trying to pick up people on Facebook, you’re most likely meeting them at Chuck E. Cheese.

Phil OWNED the first comment poster(What). I bet (what) talks smack all the time online on AJC, but when confronted he backs down like the little biaaaotch he is. Quit hating so much. You admitted you were only in editor in Carrolton (middle of nothing. Your papers only go out once on Sunday so you had a whole week to edit it. Way to go Phil; keep chin checking these internet haters. I’m going to find out who that guy was, and we can go to his job and find faults in everything he does.

I think you guys have been watching to much Nancy Grace and CSI. Believe it not, despite popular opinion, not every guy in the world is a date rapist. Get out of your sheltered close-minded attitude.

Or, maybe some of us prefer it that way, as opposed to picking up random bar skanks in some smoky, dimly lit petri dish.
But hey, whatever works for you, Joe. Just remember to wrap it up.

I am a good looking, well educated, fit man. Here are my rules.. I don’t date anyone from an online site without references, a credit check, certifiable pictures/video and a recent clean bill of health. Keeps the gold diggers away. (Which is about 90 percent) I gladly provide the same info.

Alone under 14th St Bridge at Dusk. I stay in the shadows for 10-15 mins just to see how they behave.
Of course I like to exchange credit references and college certificates beforehand, it helps keep the crazy’s away.

I’ll use those rules. Then maybe next time, when the chick walks in the bartender won’t giggle. Maybe, I won’t seem like an a**, when I slam my first drink and order a second before she sits down.

I’d say, Starbucks or maybe drinks at a mutually known bar. Since you’ve never met in person, you may not want to commit to a full dinner, in the case that things don’t work out.
Also, you want to go somewhere you’re both comfortable. Meeting a new person and experiencing a new place can only add to the anxiety.

If its someone I’ve met online, then we already know something about each other anyway. However, as the guy, I always try to let the lady make the choice on location. The more comfortable she is, the better it will go. It also makes it easier for her to have her friend(s) sitting somewhere near by to scope me out and text her constantly, which gives her ample opportunities for the “I gotta go” phone call if she’s not happy. This also lets me know a lot about her, by what she choses, what she dresses, what she orders, and how much attention she’s paying to me vs. other guys in the place.
Yeah, I’ve dated before and I hate it.

Hi everyone, I have dated online and I find that it’s the easiest way to get to know someone that is what you want instead of meeting people at the bar/club whom half of the time you are not compatible with. I met my bf online. We started communicating as friends first and I got to know him and he me. We met at a restaurant of my choice so that I could feel safe for the first meeting. I like all the ideas of Starbucks, restaurants, and Piedmont because they always have a lot of people there. Not all men and women that date online are bad people. Some of us just got tired of meeting crap at the bars/clubs and some of us don’t really have time to date on a regular basis so it is the easiest avenue. I am in school full time and work full time. I am also a single mother. I can truly say that I am happy with my choices. You don’t have to be a ugly hag to date online and want a person of quality. I and my bf are both considered attractive, both college educated, and with stable careers. I think that people should do what’s best for them. If you found your true love on the street then hooray for you, but for those of us who found them online that’s great too. Who cares how you find each other, what matters most is what you do with it in the end. Just my opinion.

Look for something cool going on in town. The open practice at the dome Saturday would’ve been a good idea. Free small concerts are always good(especially here in Athens!)

I think I have 3 good first date spots:
Front Page News- midtown. Good food to go along with good prices and nice atmosphere with outdoor seating
Atlanta Botanical Gardens- For something different. I’m not a big “flower guy” but you can easily kill a good hour or more just walking around- they even served drinks on certain days I think. Gives you a chance to really talk and some of the flowers are actually great conversation pieces- fellas resist the temptation to make jokes about the ones that look like giant sex organs. I think a date here gets you major kudos with chicks b/c it’ll come off as different. My date was great except that maybe I lost a point with the “That one looks like a 10 foot schlong”- hey it seemed funny at the moment.
Fernbank’s Martini’s at the IMAX - this place is amazing. Get there an hour before your movie starts and you can get a drink and they have a live band playing.

All kidding aside, the Village Tavern in Alpharetta works well. Not too dark, not too bright, good food and drinks. Casual, but nice casual. Plus the bathrooms are close to the front door and out of sight from the tables, so if your date doesn’t work out you can get out unseen.
