Allergic to dogs. Don’t have any and would certainly not take them to a restaurant - even if it is a “dog” restaurant - to eat. YUCK!!!

The Brew House in little five used to be dog friendly. I used to take my dog with me all the time to go grab a beer and some wings, but I don’t think they allow dogs anymore. Its a shame.

i have to piggy back on Ken’s vote for Brewster’s Ice Cream. My weiner dog loves her some brewster’s - i think it is/was free when i took my little pooch for her treat. we get to enjoy our treat together on the outdoor seating area. and i get to show off my dog to the ladies walking by.

That is something I have missed about Germany and England. Taking my “Kids” out to a resturant with me. I am glad to see it catching on here. And MA, My Dogs are probably cleaner than most kids out there. They certainly have better table manners. And they sit quietly.

MA and Joe - if you don’t like the thought of dogs at a restaurant, I have two suggestions. 1 - don’t go to a restaurant that allows dogs, and 2 - don’t read and post on a blog about restaurants that allow dogs! Sheesh - use your heads!

Some people (like MA and Joe) seem to exist solely to crap on everyone else’s parade. They contribute nothing positive to the discussion, only negativity. Dogs probably dislike them as well, since dogs are great judges of character.
Another great spot is Starbucks at Ansley Mall, they’ll give you a bowl of water for your friend if you ask and it is a great people watching spot for both of you.

For all the haters, didn’t you listen to your mother when she said “if you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” stop being so negative and leave this discussion to the people that are concerned with the topic at hand.
as for great places to take your furry kiddos we have gone to

Geez people we live in the USA with free speech, we do have a right to our own opinions. That is what a blog is for.
Edward, I don’t exist to solely crap on peoples’ parades that’s what dogs are for. I don’t care if dogs don’t like me.
Kori, I will not go to a restaurant that would allow dogs.
dede, I don’t care if your dogs are cleaner than kids, I still would not want them near me while I’m trying to enjoy a meal.

Obviously we’re not talking about bringing your dog inside a restaurant (that would be too radical for most folks here), but nice spots outside.
I have yet to encounter any dog waste at any place that welcomes dogs, so why all the hostility toward the idea? If a dog is well-behaved and friendly, everyone has fun.
My nominations:
Hotel Indigo! Not a restaurant, but a nice hotel lobby/bar that welcomes dogs. They brought out a bowl of treats for us. They also have a doggie cocktail hour.
The Brake Pad in East Point has a dog-friendly patio, and they bring bowls of water.
The Brick Store in downtown Decatur is nice, if you can snag a spot outside, and the servers bring water without your having to ask.
Parish in the Old Fourth Ward is supposed to have a dog-friendly patio — haven’t been there yet.

Elroy, what the hell was that? This is about DOGS! If you’re a cat lover, go away. If you’re not a dog lover…….go way far away. We love our pets and mine dine close to me all the time….sometimes too close where they get smacked!! They love my kids and protect my property. MA, what the hell are you doing on here??? An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Brew House still allows doggies on the patio (Well a section of the patio). Infact, I’ve taken my Pomeranian up there lots of times. When ever there are large dogs seated near us, the staff is cool with her sitting in a chair.
Also worth checking out: Brake Pad in College Park, Solstice Cafe, The Standard, and Dakota Blue in Grant Park, Graveyard Tavern in East ATL Village, Park Grounds in Reynoldstown… to name a few.

I once sat next to a Golden Retriever at a Belgian pub on the banks of the Seine in Paris while he gulped down a creamy double bock from a large schooner right on the bar. He balanced on the bar stool like an old pro. He was better company and better behaved than most groups of children at a restaurant. His owner was clearly in touch with the needs of his dog. Good for the pub too.

I think outside seating for folks with dogs is great. I trust my dog much more than I trust the average person. They are never looking for an angle to manipulate you for their own personal gain.
They won’t judge you by the type of car your drive, the money you earn, or where you buy your clothes. Most of them just want to be loved by a person and give love back.
The bad ones have reverted to a survival mentality due to some person’s abusing them. Children and adults do the same thing.
Dogs are always happy to see you when you come home and they never touch the thermostat, or drink your beer.
They have many of the emotions that people have, and so are close to us in many ways. They get scared, feel sad, feel happy, like to play, enjoy going for a ride and seeing something different, and will sit close to you because they want and need to feel close to someone.
Thank you for the list of eating establishments that you have provided. I think I will take my dog out for the evening this Fall when things cool off and we can both enjoy the night air.

I have two dogs and want to thank all the “positive” comments on here. I have one or both dogs with me a lot of times but hesitant to stop at restaurants when I get hungry. I usually take them home and then go back out to eat. That can be time consuming sometimes.
Also, my advice to everyone is do not respond to negative people on these blogs. You’ll learn they have nothing better to do but be nasty and comment back all the time. Then the rest of us looking for this good advice have to keep scrolling thru their crap to get to the good stuff.

My visits have been pleasant, and so have the humans and dogs.

BTW Zeb, you asked above what a Golden Doodle is. That is a hybrid between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They are now breeding poodles with a lot of different breeds and they all have odd names that sound like “doodle” or “poo” in the name. Hope that explains it.

Zeb: A Goldendoodle is part Golden retreiver and part poodle. Great dogs that shed less due to their poodle parentage. Just like other ‘designer’ dogs: Puggle (pug + beagle) Chiweenie (chihuahua + daschund) etc…

I’ve found that any place with some outdoor tables and without a fenced in patio is dog friendly. I’ve heard that there are some health department rules about dogs on fenced patios, but I have yet to find a place that doesn’t allow dogs right outside the patio (Apres Diem, Mellow Mushroom on Monroe).
I particularly like P’Cheen, as I can walk there and they have great beers.

”The Glenwood in East Atlanta Village” 1263 Glenwood Ave Atlanta, GA 30316 (404) 622-6066 http://glenwoodatlanta.com/Glenwood/
We visited ‘The Glenwood’ with our 5 month old black toy poodle, ”Gizmo”, after reading the great review in ‘Atlanta Magazine’. We sat at a table on the sidewalk in front of ‘The Glenwood’.
It was a bit noisy with Marta buses and other traffic passing by. Our waitress immediatly brought us water and took our drink orders. She was very sweet to our our puppy and brought him a bowl of water.
Then a man who we thought was either the owner or manager came out and greeted us and our puppy and asked us if we would rather sit on the garden patio deck behind the restaraunt. We didn’t know they had one, but we said sure!
Some of the other employees gathered our drinks and the puppy’s water bowl for us.
As he was leading us to the deck, one of the bartenders shouted, ‘Hey! We don’t allow mokeys in here’. It was hilarious. Gizmo does look a little like a monkey.
The deck was very nice. Other people were there with dogs who were well behaved and sociable.
All of this would have been enough for us to keep going back to The Glenwood even if the food hadn’t been good. However, the food and service were awesome. We will definitely be taking Gizmo back to The Glenwood.

I once went to a Sonic in Alpharetta where I brought along my black lab. The waiter brought out a bowl of water with the our order. Now we always make a stop on the way home from the dog park.

Rather then slam you MA (and others who don’t want to dine with dogs) I prefer to explain.
When I moved here to GA I moved into an apartment until I can find a home. I have some guilt over my furkids being confined all day, as opposed to our home in Philly where they had a very large yard and the freedom to run as they pleased. So I try to take them with me as many places as I can so that they can get out of the house. In addition I think that it’s important to socialize them as much as possible and if I can do that while I satisfy my personal needs, such as eating or shopping, then that’s great too.
I totally understand and respect your desire to not want to eat next to a dog, but unless you’re inspecting the kitchen of every restaurant that you’re eating in, and making sure that your server is washing his hands before he touches your food, utensils and glassware, eating next to a dog should be the least of your concerns about sanitary conditions.

My dog is my best friend and also very clean. I would love for her to be able to eat with me inside a restaraunt, but I settle for outdoors. Most restaraunts with outdoor dining allow dogs, which is great!

One of the things I miss about living in England and Europe is being able to take my dog with me to restaurants and shopping. There your dog was as much a member of your family as your children and taking your dog for a walk and stopping for a coffee and a pastry at a sidewalk cafe was a daily event. Never once did I see a negative event involving an animal- but I did see a kid throw a biscuit once.

The best place in the Sandy Springs/Atlanta area to dine with your furry pals is definately Nancy G’s Cafe at 4620 Roswell Road. Their fantastic servers bring out bowls of cold water without having to ask. Everyone (dogs and humans) get along. It is THE best place to go!!

Varner’s Restaurant on Concord Road in Smyrna, GA is has excellent food and welcomes dog owners and dogs alike in their outdoor dining area. I eat there frequently with my pooch. Part of the outdoor dining area is shaded with an overhang and ceiling fans so even on hot days, it’s still bearable.

Wow, this is a great blog spot! I recently became a mama to a little puppy named Myrna. I always want to take her out with me because she loves meeting new people and I hate to leave her at home all day and night! Thanks for the input! Cheers!
It’s also hilarious that people TOTALLY disinterested in dogs have to comment. Get a grip and go find something relevant to complain out. Why don’t you watch the news or merely volunteer your free time to someone who might need it?

Lived in France where dogs are allowed inside restaurants. Dogs are trained from puppy-hood to be quiet and non-combative, and I never saw an unruly pet in a restaurant. Most of the time you’re not even aware they’re there.
So I think all patio restaurants should allow pets.
But to me, the great question is—which restaurants let you smoke outside?
As a smoker, I’ve just about stopped taking myself out for dinner, because I like to relax with a cocktail and cigarettes and read a book. This should be the NEXT “BEST OF THE BIG A” question.

Come on, people, I can’t even give away a DVD set of “House?” I drew 2 names at random, emailed them both, neither one responded. This is “House!” One of the best shows on TV. I gotta give this away. So the first person who emails me at pkloer@ajc.com asking for it, you’re the winner.

To all the dog haters out there… you might want to think about the fact that whatever the dog licked may well be the cleanest thing on the property.
Doubt it? Go look in most restaurant kitchens? You’ll never worry about a little dog slobber again.
Seriously-where do you think the five second rule originated?
Myself, I usually do drive through, and the Wendy’s in Cumming always gives my sheepdog a bowl full of broken hamburger bits to take home.
