The best true thrift store is Lillians Cloak in Lilburn GA..this store has good prices..a sprit filled manager..a prayer room…and the best…every purchase goes towards helping people in that area with financial hardships..they even give away items to people who need it…the true thrift stores was created to help people who could not pay retail prices..and who couldnt pay at all..you can go in this shop and see a mother with her kids joyfullly picking up free items so her kids can go to school, etc. When I go to the register to pay for my items, I usually give more then what they say..because I know of many who has had their electric bills paid in full because of Lillians Cloak.

I used to go to one off Jimmy Carter Blvd when I worked in the area. I think it was Last Chance Thrift Store or something like that…then there is one off Pleasant Hill/ Beaver Ruin where I would buy the beautiful afghan blankets before winter for my dogs to sleep on in the winter. The blankets always reminded me of my grandmother when I used to help her knit a few squares. I doubt I could do that today!!!! What memories!!!

America’s Best Thrift on Canton Rd in Marietta

Wellspring in Duluth on Buford Hwy - they need help right now moving to a bigger location just down the shopping center

Several bids for Nearly New off of Howell Mill. Seems like a good one - what type of store, how big and what makes it good. Might go by during lunch today. My bid is the Goodwill in Roswell. They get good quality stuff. There is also a thrift store not far from the Goodwill, down Alpha. Hwy & behind the former Sonnys BBQ. Not sure of the name, but a good thrift store also.

LimeKatz Consignment in Brookhaven - this store always has interesting clothes from ‘Gap level’ to higher end designers like Marc Jacobs, Gucci, etc. It’s my favorite place to buy designer jeans, purses and even shoes! They also have baby/toddler clothes.

I think that Platos in Kennesaw off of Barrett Parkway is the best “Thrift store” for clothes. They play good music and have plenty of options to choose from. They arent your typical junky, ugly clothes store, they have american eagle, express, American Rag, etc. Nice place to go to when your short on cash because they also buy your clothes from you too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The newly expanded St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store on Main Street in Chamblee is great. I have picked up great bargains there and it seems like they really focus on the quality of the items. I got a great pine armoir for $45 there and it doesn’t look like it came from a thrift store. Best of all the money goes to help those in need in the community!

The Nearly New was at Broadview Plaza forever. New Location is okay. Correct me if I’m wrong but I heard that the Junior Leaguers have to donate a certain amount of stuff. That’s why sometimes you’ll find price tags still on the clothing. Don’t know their policy on credit cards or checks, though. Give them a call.

For Furniture I prefer Consignment Depot in Chamblee, they have great prices and are extremely helpful.

Also in Chamblee is another great Store, My Favorite Place…You really have to hunt and peck, but the reward can be so fullfilling. Where else in Atlanta can you get a 1860’s Mahogany Chest for under $200.00?

The VERY best thrift store is the Goodwill on Alpharetta Highway. Not only is the quality great, but the employees are very helpful. I often drive up to donate and the employees are efficient and professional. The actual sale room is neat and orderly. Many clothing items are brand new and have the tags. I was looking for some baby items for a friend and a clerk asked if she could help me! Customer service there is great!

The Salvation Army on Marietta Street si great for clothing and not bad for furniture if you hit it right. I used to go to the Nearly New when it was in Lindbergh - nice to know where it is now! And a prime thrift event, although not a shop, is the twice-a-year sale of kids’ clothing, an avalanche of kid paraphrenalia and some maternity wear at Glenn United Methodist Youth Building by Emory. The sale is fall and spring, and has an astounding selection of very high quality stuff. I outfitted all of my kids from there for years.

Last Chance Thrift store off of Jimmy Carter. You can find some really great stuff in there and every Monday everything in the store is half-price. I will say that I’ve found some cool treasures at the Last Chance thriftstore in Decatur, especially on 1/2 price Mondays. The secret is to go in on Sunday, find what you want, hide it and go back on Monday and get it!

I like “Back by Popular Demand” in Lilburn, Ga. Some of their things are a little pricey but they have good quality clothes, yes even Juicy Couture but if you shop well, you can get some good deals. They also consign and have a furniture store as well right next door to the clothes shop. All their clothes are sized and are in sections for easy access to your size. I highly recommend this shop.

Nearly New on Howell Mill is fantastic. They do accept both cash and credit cards. You’ll find amazing deals there and brands ranging from Gap and Ann Taylor to Sevens, Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman, etc. And it’s not at all uncommon to find items with price tags still on them. I also like perusing the books and cds as well. They’ll probably have a sale on Labor Day too.

I have shopped at the consignment stores and have even worked for one in management. They are a great bargain. But please do not think that they help the less fortunate. Atleast the major ones with several stores say they help others which if you look in GA, they only have to donate 1 to 2 percent to their listed charity. If an investigative reporter were to look into these companies, they would find a very gross amount of impropriety occuring.

I can’t believe no one’s mentioned Attic Treasures on Broad St. in Chamblee. Great clothes, lots of specials. I was in there once when they suddenly put all black pants for $1 for the rest of the day. Score! Run by volunteers (Assistance League?), and the proceeds buy stuffed animals and gifties for children undergoing surgeries.

I also really like the big new Good Will in Northlake, near the uniform shop (Toys R Us plaza). Very clean and well organized. And there’s a small St. Michael’s thrift shop in Stone Mtn Village that’s been great in the past; I haven’t been there lately. Down by the little depot/visitors’ center. Only open Thu, Fri, Sat till 12:30. Happy “Good Will” Hunting!

My favorite all around thrift shop is probably Last Chance Thrift on Scott Blvd. in Decatur. Great prices and specials every day. But Value Village on Memorial Dr., again in Decatur, and Fodac on Lewis Rd., off Jimmy Carter in St. Mtn. run a close second. If it’s furniture you want, though, the Salvation Army thrift shops will have the largest selection, even though their prices have risen steeply in the last few years, it’s still an excellent place to find good stuff.

Things are more “current” than you might otherwise expect. The furniture is great and the prices are more than fair. This is a great store with a long history of helping others, regardless of your religious affiliation. Another reason to shop there is the neighborhood itself; lots of antique shops and it’s walking distance from Marta!

For furniture, it’s definitely The Painted Horse. This place has some of the most unique pieces for cheap, cheap prices. There are even people who own antique shops and other resale places that shop there to get inventory for their stores. Plus if you are into fixing up pieces, there are items there that you can purchase very cheap and make into something very beautiful. The store is always getting new items. It’s a spot where many interior designers shop for unique pieces for clients.

It’s in Midtown, at 241 Boulevard Ave. Atlanta, GA 30327. They do take credit cards, but they don’t hold merchandise. So if you visit, just make sure you bring a truck. You WILL find something great!

I tried the Nearly New Shop on Howell Mill yesterday at lunch..Got a couple of really good deals..I will go back, so thanks to all that mentioned it..Not sure about return (or exchange) polices(sp) at most places, but I just out yesterday that at Goodwill all sale are final..This is why I LOVE Value Village, they will at least let you do an in store exchange on items, if the tag is still on & you have a receipt..

The St. Vincent de Paul thrift store located on Buford Highway in Buford, Ga. is awesome!! The store is immaculate, the clothes are in wonderful condition and tastefully displayed. They have an amazing staff that are friendly and extremely helpful! Lots of “fun finds” are at this store. Lots of designer brands and name brand clothes for great prices. The address is 1433 Buford Highway, Buford. You won’t leave empty handed and you will save lots of money. A big portion of the money goes directly to aid the needy in our very own area.

St. Vincent de Paul’s in Hapeville, Ga., is a quaint, friendly store located in downtown Hapeville a few doors away from the original Chik-Fil-A. Prices are extremely low and bargains abound. It’s uncluttered and easy to see what’s inside. Visit!

My husband purchased a chair from The Painted Horse for about $20. When we went to get it reupholstered, the person mentioned that it was originally a chair that sold for about $600. I was amazed. For that, I vote for The Painted Horse. You’ll never know what treasure you can find.

I love St. Vincent DePaul in Kennesaw. I find the best little treasures there to include some fantastic brand name clothing prices at such a low price. $3.00 for a “Loft” blouse is just unreal. I always buy my clothing there and get great compliments! I love the fact that all the money raised goes to support the community.

Nearly New, Nearly New, Nearly New! It’s off of Howell Mill in the Kroger Shopping center. There is everything from home goods to ladies designer, but you’ll find some of the best deals on childrens’ clothing in Atlanta! It’s not huge and overwhelming, but required quarterly donations by Junior Leaguers keeps the store stocked full of goodies! The best has to be 1/2 off everything during holidays! And, hey! It all benefits Atlanta area women and children! You have to check it out…

I tried the Nearly New off of Howell Mill Rd. It’s not a great as everyone is making it out to be..They hardly have any kids stuff..I’ve been there twice & have yet to encounter a friendly store employee..I found a lot of stuff from Old Navy & what they are asking for it, I can buy it for at the store..

By Anna

Nearly New at Howell Mill and I-75 near the Kroger. I have found a pristine dress from Harold’s for only $7, a cute black cocktail dress for $8 that was marked down from $10 because of a spot that came out when I took it to the dry cleaners, and full business suits (jacket and pants) for $20. In addition to its large selection when it comes to clothing, I also bought a pasta strainer for $2 and a blender for $10. They have anything and everything, from computers to books to place mats to curtains to cribs to tuxedos and more. The store is staffed primarily by volunteers of the Junior League, who also have to donate to the store, and all the money raised helps the Junior League in its efforts to better the lives of women and children in Atlanta.

Nearly New Shop for Clothes and The Painted Horse for furniture finds

By Paula Lawton Bevington

August 26, 2008 12:57 PM | Link to this

The Nearly New Shop has the best merchandise because it has the highest standards, refusing to accept donations that are soiled, torn or otherwise damaged (buttons missing or zippers off track, etc.). The customer can be sure that the merchandise is in good condition and she receives real value at very modest prices.

Attic Treasures in Chamblee is the best thrift store I’ve ever been in. It is run by 100% volunteers - no paid employees and it feels like a boutique. This may be because they get a lot of their clothing and housewares given to them from consignment shops at the end of the consignment period. They have St John, BCBG, great shoes and now are getting a lot of children’s clothing, toys and equipment from children’s consignment shops. The address is 3534 Broad St. Chamblee. They have special sales weekly and email a weekly newsletter if you sign up. It is just down the street from St. Vincent De Paul and several antique shops.
