BRAVES! My family have always been Braves fans (thanks to TBS) so when I moved here a few years ago it was the only team I had any affiliation with. I just can’t seem to like the Falcons or the Hawks. The Thrashers are OK. I know the Braves aren’t having the best season but I always have a great time at Turner Field.

This is an absurd question. Of course its the Georgia Bulldogs. The only real competition is the Braves, but they aren’t doing so hot right now so the bandwagon is light. The Falcons are probably a very distant third. After that, the Atlanta sports scene really doesn’t have much to offer. The Hawks are always a joke. Georgia Tech is consistantly mediocre and irrelevant. Even if they were good I’m not sure many folks around here would care. This is not a hockey town and the Thrashers were a mistake. Any other Georgia or Atlanta teams are not worth mentioning.

My favorite team in sports is easy…Truett-McConnell Bears Men’s Basketball. They play in the Georgia JUCO conference and are a very exciing team to watch play. I love em’.

Georgia, I can,t even say enough about the bulldawgs. Through the years they have always given me something to look forward to.I am 39 years old and wish everyday that I could go back to school, Georgia is where I would be. even if it was just playing waterboy. They have produced some of the greats at the college level and at the pro. watching the dawgs make’s me feel like I am a part of something bigger.I have always believed in them win or lose, they are my team. GO DAWGS.

Used to be the Braves, but its hard to root for them when the owners penny pinch a championship down to dog doodoo. Until the braves owners and management put some players on the field that can actually play a grade above little league, I have no sports team. Enough said.

let’s forget statistics for a minute and talk about tradition, is there anywhere in the country that has a better tradition in any sport then GEORGIA. they have an all around great hard to beat legacy of great sports and athelets. we all lose sometimes if we play long enough, but they never lose for long and there right back on top again. UGA and Falcons could go either way. Most of my life I would have said the Falcons came first, but Mark Richt has won me over at Georgia. If we were not a year removed from the Vick debacle, I would probably still say the Falcons. I’m sure that stain will fade in time.

My fav ATL Team has to be the Hawks. No matter if they are winning or losing, there is always a storyline with this franchise! I’m also enamored with the Highlight Factory kind of players they have: Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Horf, Bibby, and Marv. Just look at how revived Philips Arena was for that surprising 7 Game series with the eventual NBA Champs. How can you not love this team?!? Especially since they will be perennial playoff contenders for the next half-decade. GO HAWKS! You have the city behind you now!

This is a very difficult question for me to answer. I would have to say that my two favorites are UGA and the Braves. Picking between the two is just impossible for me. Next, I love my high School- Warner Robins Demons but since graduating many years ago I rarely can make a game. UGA however is a priority to be apart of. I wish I could be as enthusiastic about the Falcons and Hawks but repeated poor play and horrible personnel decisions keep them from taking a special place in my heart, and I’ve never developed a care of hockey or the thrashers, yet I would support them in the playoffs.

I would vote to fire Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who has played the role of Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys terribly. The difference in Jones and Blank is Jones actually played football, winning the NCAA National Championship at Arkansas. There is a reason he has his hands in everything. He knows football. He did not run a home improvement store for a living.
The Falcons went to the Super Bowl in ‘98. The team has not improved since Blank bought the team. He pushed out the great Dan Reeves and Jim Mora, Jr. (his replacement) was a disaster, followed by a worst train wreck in Bobby Petrino. I say fire Arthur Blank. PLEASE!

You can call it Division II football, whatever you say, you wannabe UGA students. (IE BANDWAGONERS) but in all actuality, we went up to Athens and held your bulldogs to 2 under 30 point victories.
Call us pee-wee, cuz you don’t realize that you can’t even dominate a “peewee team”. I can’t wait til we show you a little something come August 30th. For the 3rd time. You might beat us, Im not delusional, but you will not completely dominate us.

I pick my team by who has won the last Division I National Championship. So, then it has to be Georgia Southern. My second pick will be who has won the next most recent Division I National Championship. So, I guess it would have to be GSU again.

I guess your question is intentionlly vague around sports teams, as in, who are the favorite sports teams of people in ATL, not sports teams IN ATL. O/w UGA does not qualify. See, they are in Athens, over an hour away. Athens is not the same as Atlanta, last time I checked. So UGA really should not count. They really don’t count except in football; academically, they are irrelevant….just ask David Pole-lock.

Just how completely out of touch is this newspaper? I thought the category was favorite team, not most competitive in the moment. What are the Hawks ratings, TV and radio? What’s their average attendance in the regular season? And you put that above Georgia’s rabid (in more ways than one) fan base? What are Georgia’s ratings, even when the Dogs are at home? So the Hawks made the playoffs once this millennium. Whoop-de-frickin-do. I’d still put the Braves well ahead of them, since they’re drawing at least five digits of fans and they are way out of contention. Get a clue, guys.

This paper just loves to go on and on about stupid a$$ Georgia. I am an Atlanta Falcon fan, have been since 1978. I grew up near Athens, used to be a dog, but the birds came 1st. I kept hearing over and over how a bunch of 19-21 year olds could be,even beat, a pro football team, i.e. the Falcons. I’m still amazed as to how many idiots think UGA is a pro football team. I can say it this year, what has UGA done in 30 years the nation cares about. This year is not a fluke and we’re going to be heard from for years to come. GO FALCONS!
