Where is the best meat-and-three restaurant in and around Atlanta?

We have our winners.

A long-time Atlanta favorite with both locals and tourists took the top spot among readers, as the distinctively Southern food and hospitality of Mary Mac’s Tea Room lands at No. 1. Take a look at the rest of your picks for best Atlanta area meat-and-three restaurant.

Our dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman’s list of favorites has just one in common with the readers’ picks, but her top spot goes to a restaurant that only got a few mentions in our nomination round. She’s a big fan of Duluth’s Rexall Grill. Check out the list of our picks for favorite meat-and-three restaurant in and around Atlanta.

Haven’t lived in Atlanta for many years, I do not beleive that the Yellow Jacketis in existance any longer, just down the street from the Varsity, , Althought when I was younger that was the place to get the beest Hot Dog in the Atlanta area. They toasted the bun chopped the onions very fine and they were served with chili. I make my hot dogs as close to theirs as I possibly can. Although Costcos Does make an excellent hot dog, one of the best around.

I also loooooove the OK Cafe and I’m snickering at all of those mentioning Mary Mac’s. I must have gone on a bad day because the food was absolutly horrible. I’d be willing to give it another shot if someone else was footing the bill.

Mother’s Kitchen in downtown Newnan is probably one of the best kept Southern secrets. It is a little hole in the wall place and by hole in the wall you can take that term literally. It is located at 33 1/2 Broad St. in Newnan. To access the place you have to go down a corridor between two buildings. There is no sign telling you where it’s at nor is there one pointing you down this corridor. If you have to, ask a Newnanite where it’s at, they’ll know. Anyhow, the food is awesome! I love the meatloaf and Mother’s greens are to die for Southern goodness. The first time I went there to dine I ate for free and was told that an unknown previous patron paid for my meal as well as two others “to honor the Trinity.” That’s what I call Southern hospitality. Every now and then I pay it forward.

The best meat and three is a little small southern restaurant outside of Atlanta in Douglasville, GA. It only has 6 booths, but they move the food so fast that there is hardly ever a wait. The owner was raised in the country and has been cooking for the past 29 years. She cooks and bakes all of her own food. If you want to feel as if you went back home for some southern soul food, try SeCe’s on Dallas Hwy in Douglasville. Try the homemade banana pudding you’ll be hooked
