Where can you get the best french fries in and around Atlanta?

We have our winners.

Though many readers still professed their love for McDonald’s fries, your winner is a homegrown purveyor of distinctively American food in Smyrna. The burger-and-fries specialists at US Cafe emerged as your favorite place to get fantastic fries. Check out the places that made your Top Five for the best fries in and around Atlanta.

Our picks look a little different, but dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman and our readers did agree on a couple of our finest fry makers. Topping her list is Shaun’s, a place that crisps its potatoes in a special type of fat. Healthy? Not quite. Delicious? You bet. See our picks for the best fries in and around and Atlanta.

WING STOP Fries are AMAZING…And yes, that is sugar in the seasoning blend that they use. Their fries are addictive, and most locations will give you a 2oz. cup of the seasoning if you ask!

They’re similar to Varsity fries, only they actually give a rip about how they’re cooked. Anybody thinking that the Varsity has the best fries obviously hasn’t tried 5 Guys.

I’m glad you told me 5 Guys uses peanut oil for their fries. Now I know I’ll NEVER try them. I can’t stand the taste of anything cooked in peanut oil. I have YET to find anyone that can make a “real” AMERICAN fry like my Mom used to make, and I have her secret recipe! No restaurant can compare. Eat your heart out. It’s better than fries you buy.

The best burger joint in town? Hands down, above the rest, is THE COUNTER in Roswell. The food is not only superb, but the atmosphere! I have been waiting a very long time for a good burger and fries place to come around and this one takes the bun. The greatest part about it? You get to customize all the way down to the last drop of ketchup. The sweet potato fries? To die for! Even for the health fanatics like me, this place has it all. And if it’s one of your “cheat days”, try their milkshakes. Actually just customize one the way you want! The Counter is the perfect place anytime of the day! Bring the kids, the family, the grandparents, your neighbor, your boss…anyone!

Just so everyone knows, according to Del Taco’s own Web site, there are no Del Tacos in Georgia. And almost every one of those nominations for Del Taco are coming from one person. Can’t imagine what their angle is, since most of us reading here aren’t anywhere near a Del Taco. Keep the LOCAL nominations coming.

If anyone is wondering, Del Taco is about 40 miles north of the SC border on the 85. Jack N The Box is about 20 miles north of the SC border. In-N-Out is 10 miles north. Ok, just kidding. No In-N-Out unfortunately.

Jo’s Grille @ Johnson Ferry and Ashford Dunwoody Crossing has great crispy hot fries, and their big juicy burgers are the best in town. Sorry, I missed the nomination for burgers. Go there, you will not be dissappointed with this friendly neighborhood eatery.

OMG. You are so right. I am addicted to The Counter’s sweet potato fries. I’ve never gone to a place just for the fries. Dip them in the sauce that comes with them, and thats all I want. I wish I didn’t have to drive so far to get them, gas is ridiculous.

U.S. Cafe does have one of the best , fresh, handmade hamburgers, and fries. The salads are great, too, but just not as filling! Don’t forget the milkshakes after dinner.

La Petite Maison on Roswell Rd in Sandy Springs makes the best french fries in town. Two sisters from Nice, France supervise and create all the food and the fries next to their thinly pounded chicken breast with lemon cream sauce is a little bit of Paris.

I know it is passe’ but all of the overpriced, steak cut and overspiced potatoes still can’t beat a hot batch of Mickey D’s!

Moes & Joe’s cheese fries with a side of ranch is my pick. Pair that with a $4 pitcher of beer, and you’re good to go.

No contest… McDonalds. The rest of their food is awful but you can’t beat their fries. Good with Ketchup, plain or dunked in a milkshake.

Well, they’re not technically fries but the Tater Tots at the Highlander are great. If I have to go with “fries” then I’d have to go with 5 Guys.

Any designer fry gets nixed off the list right off, so sorry to all you Leon fans. Five Guys has a great fry and you do get a great big order. The Varsity while good, it is not the greatest fry.

McDonald’s has the best fries in town. I don’t have a lot of love for the Golden Arches, but I’ve got to give credit where credit is due.

When it comes to LOCAL establishments, Leon’s Full Service has pretty good fries with GREAT dipping sauces, and Chick-Fil-A’s waffle fries are reliably satisfying, too.

I would have to agree with 5 Guys and The Varsity. I’m a Native Atlantan but I must say IN AND OUT Burger out west has the best fries I’ve ever had. Wish they were here even over 5 Guys!!

Besides the Atlanta Varsity’s fries, which are great, another place with great fries that actually taste like potatoes is Ribs, Etc. on Roswell Rd. in Buckhead. Yum!

I want to know where Del-Taco is. I am from Commerce and since ours closed years ago I haven’t had a good Mex Meal. Sure we have Taco Bell,or in our case replace the B with an H, but it is nowhere as good as Del-Taco.

Oga’s on Pchtree Ind. serves them hot and fresh with the Patty Melt. Houston’s fries go well with a rib-eyes. None of those sauces or special spices for me - just salt and pepper - but sopping up a little steak juice off the plate is OK. I have never understood the ketchup thing. Maybe that’s because I’m a mayo and mustard guy - but not even that on a fry.
