You pick the pardon: Paris or Scooter?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If there were only one pardon available, who would you give it to…Paris Hilton or Scooter Libby?
Feel free to explain the reason for your choice.

Libby. Then I would make Paris serve the time I pardoned from Libby. The image of this spoiled little rich girl crying and screaming handuffed with snot bubbles made my day! Now, go after the dimwitted sheriff that started this and hold him in comtempt and add time to her sentence for contempt becuase she knew her sentence and this may scare her anoriexic little side kick Nicole Richey and she’ll hurl herself off a tall building in protest. I am sick of all of all the Hollywood trash eating up the headlines. Good riddence to the rich spoiled s**. Her mother is a s** too. I normally don’t agree with Al Sharpton but he was dead on right about this one, no poor white persons kid or a rapper would receive the special treatment she has. Jail her the entire sentence now.

I say neither because they’re both too stupid to be running around free. Paris for obvious reasons. She’s world class in a category all her own stupid. Scooter for trusting is life to two crooks who have proven they’ll throw your behind under a bus in a split second - plus…he should be punished for being a grown man moving into his twilight years who still likes to be called “Scooter”…WT?

Not sure scooter really did anything wrong to need to be pardoned for, but that’s another story, isn’t it…
it’s about TIME someone stood up to the Hiltons and other rich/celebrity/political/whatever holier-than-thou, my-azz-don’t-stink abusers of our system and put one of the little punks in jail to serve REAL time. and no, scoop, you don’t PARDON her for being an addict, yes you pray for her and get rehab, but she knowingly flaunted her prissy little anorexic self at the law and LOST… good grief!

What happened to the Paris that was going to serve her time and then said she has learned her lesson? Oh, that’s her bawling and crying and screaming and crying for her mama. And Sports mommy, it’s not looking for Vick that the Feds are on ths case; the state of VA nor Blank can help Vick if the Feds find enough evidence and from the looks of some of the reports on the WEB, you may not be seeing Vick on the field this year. Errr prison field maybe. Several reports are saying they found a heap of evidence. Save that No. 7 jersey, it may not be around long. Jail Paris, free Libby.

Do you really think she’s withdrawing from meth? That throws a whole new wrinkle into it. I’m not saying I’m for or against her, but she seems very hysterical and perhaps should be put on suicide watch. What about the supposed rash? Couldn’t a physician treat her in jail instead of getting her released? And if the L.A. jails are so crowded, why didn’t she have a roommate? It kills me that the city attorney said, “her release after only three days erodes confidence in the judicial system.” Does ANYONE have confidence in the judicial system? This whole situation has been terribly botched and I feel like she’s been caught in the middle. If you’re going to throw someone in jail, do it and don’t jerk them around by taking them out and then back in. Boy, someone’s head’s gonna roll for this.

Are you people kidding me. You’d seriously pardon that scumbag libby? Uncovering the id of a CIA aganet directly affects the security of our country. Not to mention he then lied about it. Just another shining example of this administration’s incompetence, and the American public’s continued blind support of it. Does anybody honestly give two craps what happens to Paris Hilton? I can’t believe these two examples are even being compared. Ridiculous…

Well, it’s official. Our society has reached its nadir (low point for those of you in Clayton County.) While soldiers fight and die in Iraq, while the Congress debates an immigration bill which will shape our nation for the next 100 years, and while the world’s most powerful leaders meet to discuss the future of the free world, we are transfixed to the image of a spoiled, pampered, drug addicted amateur porn actress who wouldn’t whizz on any one of us if we were on fire.
I weep for the future.

Geraldo’s a joke who ceased to be significant years ago. Someone at Fox News needs to tell him.
And for those of you who don’t know who Mumia Abu Jamal is, he’s a convicted cop killer in Pennsylvania. He killed his victim execution style with a single shot to the head.

She is a disgrace to the world, I feel sorry for her father, i guess they are not the proper socialights that they wished they were. Elaborating on what Traci said. The first person I paid attention to after all the blogs on Paris that referred to her racial slurs caught on video. Especially the slurs that her and her sister were saying while at that party and dancing to hip hop music, and Paris said “We’re like two Ni**ers or something”.
Well since she is back in jail, she might feel like one now. Ha ha.

Scooter (and who in their right mind over the age of 10 still calls themselves Scooter, especially someone who is in the West Wing) and Paris BROKE THE LAW. Both seem to have NO REMORSE. Both think that they are ABOVE THE LAW. Screaming MOMMY or WINK WINK NOD NOD to the President will not help you get out of jail, pardoned or extra points at the Pearly Gates.
There will be a huge pr backlash and nightmare for Paris, Scooter (and the President) if the get out of jail cards are handed out.
Why don’t we think of releasing those people in jail that ARE innocent. Which I think could be argued are alot of people in the have not category.

Get your facts straight, Johnny. First there was no crime committed against Plame. She was not a covert agent at the time, so no crime was committed. You can’t reveal someone who’s not hidden. Second, Libby was not convicted for such - obviously. He was convicted for committing perjury about a crime that wasn’t committed. And the prosecutor knew there was no crime before he ever talked to Libby. So get your facts straight. The media had such a heyday that somebody had to take a fall for a crime that wasn’t committed. Pardon Libby. Paris needs to get a clue about life. I say extend her “stay” to help her learn.

Pat,
The media did not have a “hay day” on the Scooter Libby case. It was barely on TV - we were busy being fed —- “Whose my baby daddy stories on Anna Nicole?” And coverage of her funeral while this was going on. It should have been on TV more. Scooter- LIED — and LIED to everyone who would listen. YOU CAN NOT LIE to the GRAND JURY. — under oath…. Stop listening to rUSH lIMBAUGH AND sHawn HannITY and think for yourself. The crime was OBSTRUCTION of JUSTICE. That too —- is an afront to judicial system. FOLKS —-UNDER OATH — TELLING LIES and trying to cover it up. If the media would have done a better job of covering this case - and less time on “whose my baby daddy?”, more americans would be able to know —- what the crime was that SCOOTER committed. Then they would stop listing to “Baby Jesus” and the Big Drug Addict/Oxycoton King.

Ok Bill, Sharpton had nothing to do with Paris going back to jail, the judge was sending her back regardless, and anyone who knows jack about the law knows that. When I heard she had been released, I knew that she was going right back. Paris deserves what she is getting. The average joe would have easily gotten 60 days in the slammer for those charges. Thankfully she didn’t kill somebody’s loved one while she was DUI. As far as Vick goes, its funny that a “woman is raped” in Patrick Kerney’s house, while he is down the hall, supposedly sleep, yet the press and the public let that go, but Vick resides 2 states away from Virginia and everyone is focused on him, for “dog fighting”. Give me a break! Something in the air stinks. As far as Libby is concerned, he got caught in the middle, so he had to take one for the team. Neither should be pardoned. Free Genarlow!

Why is Bill talking about Vick -he hasn’t even been charged or had a day in court.
Paris on the other hand. Has had Many a day in court - they actually had her @ the jail, and let her go home to serve he sentence laying out by her pool, having the maid bringing her CRISTAL.
If the judge explicitly said - NO ELECTRONIC MONITORING— He KNEW that if he didn’t lower the hammer on her —SHE WOULD BE BACK the Next week. HER AND HER FRIENDS.
Even FOX News said - “AL SHARPTON GOT THIS ONE RIGHT”. Had it been a White Coal Miners Daughter - she would still be in jail!”.

Please, people … I doubt it hurts that she’s rich and blonde (with help) and white, but this has a LOT more to do with her money than her ethnicity.
I say she should shut up, do her time and (hopefully!) think a lot about her actions (anyone really think she’ll do that, though?) and the consequences of her actions.
As for Scooter Libby? I dunno. I think he’s probably more worthy of a pardon, but still, I don’t like the idea of pardoning either of these people.

Erin,
Why should Scooter Libby be pardoned?
Scooter is a known political trickster that made it to the top. He plants stuff in the media to destroy people and then he lies about it. Sorry, he was not convicted of planting the fact that the young woman was a CIA agent which blew her cover. He was convicted of obstruction of justice. There were a lot of people associated with Richard Nixon that went to jail for just that charge.

If one HAD to be pardoned , I would choose Paris …although neither deserves it . That much being said , let me add that the LA police department ought to have better things to do than what they did today , and there are better ways to deal with someone such as Paris . After all , nobody died as a result of her actions …The same cannot be said of the departing chairman of the joint chiefs …How come HE’S not headed to jail ???

Its refreshing to know that Paris had her ‘get out of jail free’ card revoked. She should never have been released in the first place! This is a glaring case of corruption. The people of LA should probably be wondering what other favors the sheriff does for other prominent inmates under the guise of some exotic and non-specific illness. Libby is just an idiot. But a dangerous idiot who put the privacy and safety of a patriotic woman at risk in order to appease the Dummie Presently Occupying The White House and his minions. Both Paris and Libby are greatly deserving of their sentences. In fact, I think both sentences are extremely lenient. Pardon none and let them serve every minute of the sentences they were justly handed!

KUDOS to the judge!!! I applaud him for doing the right thing at the beginning….and today. Unfortunately, I think she is only being made an token of however - someone to hold up to the rest of Hollyweird and say, “see, this is what will happen to you if you break the law. (yeah, right)” She is so trashy & screwed up, it’s no great loss to throw her in the clink for a few weeks. If it were someone with a positive image in the media and society, I’m not sure there would have ever been any punishment other than house arrest.
That being said, I think this whole thing of her being released yesterday was nothing more than a manipulative scam on her part. I wholeheartedly believe one of her “people” planted the idea in her head that if she made enough of a pain in the rear of herself, she would be let out sooner. Bawling all night long so as to disturb the other prisoners and pressing the medical emergency call button every 20 minutes for three straight days????!!!!! It’s no wonder they kicked her to the curb.
Rest assured…once those bulls get ahold of her (and they will!), then she’ll have something to cry about, and a lot bigger troubles than a RASH.

You know it is just petty jealousy, that all these people are posting that they want her to suffer.
Get a life, to wish for a hardship for another person - just because you are ugly, poor, and meaningless - says it all.

Must we forget that she is only going to jail for 3 weeks (don’t think she won’t be out after half the sentence). That really isn’t much time and she should have gotten alot more for what she did. I mean she could have killed someone when she drove 70 in a 35 without her lights on!!!

Anyhoo, I did get a gleam in my eye hearing that Paris cry for Mom after her verdict. Her parents built an money empire of hotel, but couldn’t teach their daughter how to 1)Talk, 2)Wear underwear, 3)Get a real job (party girl is not a profession!). Guess they thought the nanny would take care of that. Demote the blonde loving sheriff, I doubt he sent home any of the other criminals for tummy aches or whatever the heck she claimed she had.

This really boils down to a punk traffic court judge looking for his 15 minutes of fame. The unfortunate thing is the taxpayers of LA are getting stuck with the bill. The thing that bothers me the most is that if it were me or you we wouldn’t get off. The rules should apply equally to all- not depending on who does or doesn’t have money and fame. If the laws were enforced equally then maybe some of these high-profile people would think twice after seeing others in regular cell blocks and not fancied up holding places. Hey- Martha Stewart served her time and I’ll bet she doesn’t make the same mistake again.

Where are all of blacks who yesterday were whining how whites get all the preferential treatment? You people are a joke! Lose the self pity and stop blaming everyone else for your shortcomings. And to the black man that opened a business in a predominantly white neighborhood and claims that whites are racist b/c they won’t do business with him, don’t kid yourself in thinking that if a white man opened a business in the ghetto or any other predominantly black neighborhood that the same thing wouldn’t happen. Buddy, there are just as many black racists as there are white racists…lose the blinders. I think there are very few whites who dislike blacks just because they are black. It’s the laziness, the wearing pants (or any clothing) so big you’ve got to hold them up with your hand (I hear these idiots want people to think they’ve done time is the reason for this), the disrespect shown to all, the crime, the ebonics, the gold teeth, the bas** kids…I could go on and on. Live like civilized human beings like the rest of the people in this country and we could all get along! A lot have people have posted about the fairness of the law and if her sentence was too harsh? Will any lawyers post about what the normal sentence is? Of course I have no idea, In my 11yrs of driving I haven’t even received a speeding ticket so I don’t know. I thought judges had discretion over the minumum and maximum. I’m sorry, she’s always seen going here and there spending money like water, but Mommy & Daddy couldn’t get her a driver during her suspension. Oh yeah that’s right, they only show up when things are really really bad for her. Too little too late. I am interested to know the law, if for anything to shut up people debating that the sentence is too harsh. Be glad the judge didn’t put her in general population okay?

Pardon Paris. 0.08 BAC on the original charge. Her size, that’s one drink. One. Legal limit was 1.0 until the Feds threatened funding cuts to roads unless the states complied. If you can’t have one “being polite” drink, prohibition is in legal effect for smaller people. To the weaving objections: Pulled over all the time for driving late at night, out of county tags, giving a black guy a ride, (Paris hater? cause just look around)… excuse given weaving. No tickets.

I wouldn’t pardon either. Paris Hilton may never had been given that sentence had she not been so stupid to drive with a suspended license after being caught DUI. Not once but twice. Remember she was filmed on Entertainment Tonight coming out of a restaurant getting into the driver’s seat and driving off. She was totally disrespectful of the law! The judge had to give her that 45 days sentence. She needs to understand that thumbing your nose at probation normally get you time behind bars. (THE ORIGINAL SENTENCE). f she ahd followed the terms of her probabtion, she probably would have had a portion of her sentence commutted.

Just ‘cause I’m angry. I-285 was 70Mph when it was built. Because FEDERAL law says, what people feel they travel safely with, is the speed assigned to that road.
Govn’t monitors the speed people travel and it becomes the speed limit. Paris goes to jail for… being a celebrity? Don’t know, don’t care. But the average speed around the 285 perimeter is mandated by Federal law at the average user speed. Olympics said around 77Mph when the speed check was done (outside auditor). Judges are supposed to prevent people from just making s** up. The original Federal limit is an Average of the people on ANYTHING, I don’t care how much money anyfuckingbody has.
GA is in disregard of Federal guidelines and procedures, direct violation, really, on the road.
I laughed my ass off when a news station actually measured the average speed on 285, they should be arrested for looking at reality.

RE: And to the black man that opened a business in a predominantly white neighborhood and claims that whites are racist b/c they won’t do business with him…,
Gee, could it possibly have ANYTHING to do with this business owner’s quality of service (or lack thereof), quality of merchandise (or lack thereof), non-competitive pricing, little / ineffective advertising of his business OR * that this business owner chose a poor, not-ideally-accessible location that is NOT convenient for his targeted potential *customers ???
Gosh, if it were any of those reasons, that means this business owner would have to take PERSONAL REPSONSIBILTY for his company’s lack of success instead of blaming “racist, white people” for not giving him money and making him wealthy in spite of him being a poor-planning businessman.

The real punishment for Paris is the lack of attention for the next few weeks. She can’t stand not being in someone’s spotlight. Bottom line - she needs to pay the consequences for her actions and grow up and take responsibility for her actions. Doubtful that she was ever disciplined as a child for her actions. Seems like being discliplined as an adult hurts a lot more than being disciplined as a child. Shame on the HIlton parents for not raising her correctly.

My friend’s brother (who works with [Sheriff Lee] Baca’s assistant sheriffs) told me that Paris was released due to a severe, “stress-induced” herpes outbreak. He also said that he heard that the blisters had apparently spread to her anus and had taken on abcess-like features that required more serious medical attention. Thus, after taking into account jail overcrowding, the increasing liability that Paris presents, and Paris’s lesions, all things weighed in favor of her being put on home confinement.

Yet again, Paris made a mockery of her family and her dad should have applied duct tape to her and her mother. Get caught breaking probation twice (like we believe she only did it twice), ignore all other conditions of probation as she did, say you’ll ask arnold for “that Nixon thing” and then act surprised you go to jail? And I hreard the rash on her face was because she didn’t have her facial moisturizer - poor baby. And for the record Revvie Al Sharpton - I’m white, blonde and upper middle class and you, as usual, make a mockery of your own self making this into a race issue. By the way, would you care to give your spin again on OJ’s being found not guilty of murdering two white people, one of whom was white, blonde and rich? DNA evidence showed the percentage of chance that the DNA could have belonged to someone else was more than the number of people on the entire planet. As I said in my Living Vent, the prosecution should have responded with “If the DNA fit, you can not acquit.” Justice should be the same for all, not just for the rich and famous and in that regard, Paris and OJ are the same.

It’s ironic that her TV show makes fun of “common people” that do not have the advatantages that she has. Now it’s time for the “common person” to strike back. She has been convicted in the court of public media driven opinion. Having said that, not one person in the history of California law has ever spent time in jail for what Paris has been charged with. I’ll bet the Judge went back to his country club Friday and got hand shakes from all of his cronies. You can bet that he is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. Let’s take the emotion out of it and see it for what it is. It’s not against the law to be rich and stupid. How about community service and a big donation to building better jail facilites. After all the other conviction of day was the preachers wife who shot her husband in the back while he was sleeping. She got 210 days in jail.

Hmm….Michelle Rodriguez from Lost only served a day for her probation violation because of overcrowding in the LA jails but she served her time and didn’t make a huge stink… Grow up Paris and take your punishment like a mature person! Do the crime, pay the time!!!!!!

I second Al. Pardon those who are truly innocent of the crime they were convicted. Free the West Memphis Three!

Let’s see. Libby was convicted of perjury in a case where NO crime was committed. If there was, then why wasn’t those that ‘committed’ this “so-called” crime brought forward and prosecuted? He was nothing but a Wachington political scapegoat. They couldn’t convict the actual ‘perpertrators’ so they went after anybody as to make them not appear the idiots that they really are. The Democrats are too vindictive and politically motivated to do speak up, and the GOP are a bunch of cowardly wussies.
Paris on the other hand, had been released after 5 days, after being sentenced to 45 days for a crime that 98% of the people that commit this crime spend NO time in jail. If this had been anyone else, she would not be home, like nearly all those that did what she did. So it appears that both sentences are based on prejudice, and selectively ‘enforcing’ the law.
From now on, if you can’t remember everything you’ve said or done throughout your life, and testify in a court of law, you go straigh to jail for 30 months. If you are caught driving on a suspended license, and do NOT have a judges permission, and drive you receive an automatic 45 days in jail regardless of the circumstances.
Call me what you will, but I’m sick of people from both sides of the political spectrum with their whining and finger pointing. One side, as I said earlier, looks like a bunch of vindictive a*******holes with no regard to our country, and the other a bunch of cowering pu$$ies with no backbone. Either way, neither side does nothing, and we’re stupid enough to put them all back into office over and over again.

To Johnnie. You need to read/listen more, it will absolve you of your ignorance based on your political animosity. Libby was NOT convicted of outing Valerie Plame. It was her dumba$$ husband Joe that did the “outing”, although she was NOT covert at the time. The real scumbags, as you so eloquently put it, are still at home with their families because the prosecutor did not have enough evidence to convict them of anything.

Who invited Al Sharpton to give his opinion on Hilton? He said if she had been from a poor black or white family or rich black family, the sentence would have been worse. Seems to me he is forgetting a murderer and child molester that were let free, and they were rich black men!

Scooter Libby was convicted of lying in an investigation in which no crime was found to have been committed. Valerie Plame was NOT a covert agent, and everyone in DC knew that she worked for the CIA; besides, it was actually proven that Richard Armitrage was the source of the leak, anyway.
If Libby DID perjure himself, I suggest that he be pardoned to the point that his jail sentenced equals the time Slick Willy served for doing the same.

In life things happen. Although Paris should have known that what she did was breaking the law - - I don’t feel this is a reason to celebrate. Paris probably come out of this situation a better person. She did not ask the world to make her a celebrity — the world did this all on their own. Although I am not her fan, she did not because spoil and rich by herself. Scooter on the other hand truly knew what he was doing.

Thank you Deb for bringing attention to the fact that you can kill someone and get 210 days in a “suitable institution”. Paris gets 45 days for probation violation? Our justice system is screwed up!!! THAT is the real issue here.
Also, those of you who think Paris is dumb, are the same ones who get all of your information from the 5:00 news. Do your own research if you want to throw stones before you make yourself look as dumb as Paris acts.

Let’s face it. If the 10 year sentence for having consentual sex law was enforced on all our teens, more than half would be doing a 10 year stretch.
Were are our priorties, let him go and keep Paris for what? Another 2 weeks?
Some how I just can’t feel sorry for her.
