‘Model Maker’ looking for a few big girls in ATL
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Do you remember Toccara, the plus-sized model on “America’s Next Top Model” who later went on “Celebrity Fit Club” to shed a few pounds and get in shape? Now’s your chance to follow in her footsteps.
MTV is coming to Atlanta to cast for a new show, “Model Maker.” The producers — who also are responsible for such reality shows as “Flavor of Love” and “Surreal Life” — are looking for women who are 30 to 100 pounds overweight. Yes, they want the girls who are thick, but if cast, don’t expect to stay that way. Applicants must have “a great attitude, a pretty face and the endurance to sweat off the pounds” during the three months the show tapes. At the end, in addition to being healthier, one lucky lady will win $10,000 and a possible modeling contract.
The finalists will be big winners before the show begins. MTV will provide them with nutritionists, dietitians, stylists, trainers and others to help them improve themselves.
Who is eligible for the show? In addition to the weight requirement, you must be 18 to 25 years old and at least 5-foot-7. Those who want to tryout can attend the open call from 2 to 5 p.m. May 12 at Torrid in Kennesaw’s Towne Center Mall. If you can’t make it, you can pre-interview by sending your name, age, contact information, height, weight, current photos and a brief bio about you and why you want to be a model to mtvmodelmaker@gmail.com.
What do you think of a show like this? Too much reality? A fun idea?

Agree with Tim…ATL is full of “thick” girls so they shouldnt have a problem…in fact they are wasting their time with the interview…all they need to do is go to Atlantic Station Friday nite thur Sunday nite and they will find all fat girls they need…most are pretty but they just cant pass up on that burger…

Tim & Wildtorrent…the two of u are cruel..your mothers are probably BIG women too…Anyway, as a THICK woman in the ATL my only objection is the age requirement… I fit all the other qualifications…And before either one of you decide to jump down my throat I am aTHICK STRONG BLACK WOMAN who wears it well and proudly..there is a difference.

THANK YOU RENEE!! Thick is in and I too am a STRONG THICK BLACK WOMAN and I’m not FAT, there is a difference and also with the ages of some of these children in grade school who are bigger than the average adult, think before you start calling out the women in Atlanta!

tim & wildtorrent - Please release your desire for a “thick chick” and just ask one out, instead of tossing cruel comments. It’s obvious you want one.

I wish they all could carry themselves like Queen Latifah - OMG she’s sexy and sultry. Instead, most carry it like Roseanne Barr - blecccchh!

Ok this is for Tim, and who ever else has a comment. I have always been with a thick woman, Skinny women do nothing for me. Dont hate on a Big Beautiful Woman or Man, that knows that they are beautiful and are not afriad to show it. Seems like you have alot of issues. And I think you need to start looking at yourself in the mirror.

Why are you women so confused? THICK?? are you kidding? LOL if you dont fit into an airline seat..YOUR FAT!!!! Way to many women think its cute to e overweight. even if your waist is small, if your butt and thighs and arms are massive…YOUR FAT!!!!!!!! That is why so many of you are single. You dont get it. Sure some men will TOLERATE or even prefer FAT women. But PLEASE dont get it wrong…go anywhere overseas, ..south america, europe, asia…women do NOT weight more than 140 pounds!!! If you weight more than this….newsflash YOU ARE FAT!!!!

I think they should drop their scripted reality shows and go back to playing music. This channel has been unwatchable for decades.

Dr. Blubber** At 6’ 1” if I weighed 140 lbs … I’d be ill or dead! Get over yourself.
Ladies - There is a point here and that is ‘thick’ is not ‘chic’ (and attitude aside). Making healthy food and exercise choices are all that is needed. Enjoy the burger and fries, just don’t eat ‘em everyday.
And yes, some people have medical reasons for being over weight but the majority of that group is very small. Its your choices!!!

Sass,
It’s not your choice, all the food that’s suppose to be healhty for you cost double the price of anything else and in this day and time people really can’t afford it. Especially the nutritionists, dietitians, and trainers, you need to help you lose weight. So before you make a comment no the facts.

I agree, all the food that’s considered healthy is too expensive. And many of us have a family to feed. Don’t tell me about portion control either.
Forget the trainers, nutritionists and even the gym. Gas too high to get to any of them nowdays.

What is more expensive??? … treating diabetes or eating healthy? I’m not saying you need to hire a nutritionist, trainer, etc. I’m saying if you have a choice between a Big Mac or a Salad with low fat dressing … the choice is obvious which is more healty.
Quit blaming high cost of food for your bad eating choices.
And why do you need a trainer … your Mom taught you to walk when you still a mere child. Take the stairs whenever possible, trade that soda for a glass of water. Don’t look for the closest parking spot at the mall.
There are many ways to maintain a healthy weight and generate a sweat (exercise) that don’t cost what you’re paying now!
Quite making excuses … I love 100 lbs without benefit of trainer, nutritionist, or going broke!

Kay…
I am 26 years old and 5’9”. I used to weight 220 lbs. Without the help of trainers, special food and so on I made it down to 150 lbs. It didn’t cost me anything more than what I was already paying for food. I just ate healthier. (not organic crap—-just less fried foods/sweets)
It IS your choice. You can do it if you really wanted to.

I LOVE Thick Strong Women …
But, why do you have to refer to yourself as a Thick Strong Black Woman?
What does Race have to do with it ??? .
By Happy2be Me
May 9, 2008 3:11 PM | Link to this
I agree Steve….totally…race has nothing to do with it….As a beautiful larger black woman -5’8 and wearing a size 14…I dont appear to be ‘FAT’ at all but with a doctor’s news of high blood pressure….WAKE up call…There’s a health risk with the race and size. Black and Big Girl isn’t always cute when there’s a stroke or heart attack potential. No knock against anyone else…I personally want..no NEED enjoy more Mother’s Day events, etc. with my son

Not only is there a lot of discrimination against plus-size folks (espeically women) but have you noticed the discrimination against women who do not have a “pretty” face? Any feedback on this?
By TC
May 9, 2008 3:50 PM | Link to this
Beautiful Inside: you have a point there. But its not about the pretty face all the time, as long as you are beautiful on the inside that will Shine thru! That person should not let that keep them from feeling any less. Pretty faces are not always pretty on the inside believe that. Love your comment Crystal re: Dr. Blubber. We cannot all weigh the same or else somebody’s gonna fall over and die or look sickly.

Instead of driving through McDonalds and spending $4.99 on your Big Mac Extra value meal, walk your a** to the grocery store and buy a salad.
I love the “victim” syndrome in these posts. It is always someone else’s fault. I can’t help it I am FAT. “I have no choice.” Please. You know what, save some gas money by walking to the store and use your savings to buy some healthy food. Popeye’s and Crystal doesn’t count.
In US restaurants, the portions are out of control. Stop eating out and start cooking (something other than fried food) at home.
In other words, BE RESPONSIBLE for your own health.
FAT is not cute, nor healthy.

Maybe if y’all would stop using euphamisms like “thick,” “big” and “plus-sized,” you could inspire yourself to lose a little weight.
