Tastings is a dangerous wine experience
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Beware: Decatur’s new wine bar can be a dangerous place for your credit card.
On a recent date night with my husband (sans our 4-year-old son), I convinced him to swing by Tastings: A Wine Experience for an appetizer before our dinner. He’s not a big wine guy and didn’t really want to go, but you make compromises on date night. Turns out, he was he glad he did.
The concept is genius: Wander a round a room with a glass and pre-paid Tastings card and sample wines until you find one that demands more than a one-ounce serving.
It’s perfect for those just getting into wine, who don’t know what they like yet and would rather spend $2 on a taste than $8 on a full glass. And it’s a lot of fun for those who know what they like to get to sample a prohibitively expensive wine for $5. (The prices range from $1.90 for the least expensive taste to $45 for the most expensive glass. Bottles are also available for an additional $10 corkage fee.)
The space is comfortable and cozy (which also could mean “easily crowded”), and the wait staff is friendly and very helpful. There’s also food (mainly small plates and cheese), which is a good thing, because those “tastes” can catch up with you after a while.
It doesn’t necessarily bode well for our bank account — once you get started, it’s really hard to stop — but we most definitely will be back.

Forget about wine tasting! There are more tasty issues to discuss….like the CFO of City of Atlanta drinking from the same bitter cup that over 400 city employess had to drink from! Any thoughts people.

D’Anna - I have a thought - how about you go somewhere else with your political agenda?
No one really cares.

We’ve seen these in Destin and they are great. You can taste the really expensive wines without breaking the bank for the whole bottle. The variety was really impressive in FLA>

Fits right in with the Brick Store Pub. Except the Brick Store gives you free tastes from the taps (Esp. good upstairs in the Belgian room).

My guess is that the two proprieters got their idea at Copia, a wine and arts cultural museum and education center in Napa, California. Copia has the same concept, which allows people to taste different wines without the sometimes heavy investment.
Good idea, too bad Atlanta is a very wine-unenthusiast town. I love it here, but my husband and I get VERY discouraged at the wine lists offered in most Atlanta restaurants, as they are for s*%t - most of them don’t even feature the vintage! We bring our own wine whenever we can, regardless of corkage fee.

Yo, Jaxdawg, it’s not about NOCAL, it’s about wine. Why so sensitive? Atlanta has a lot of great qualities that NOCAL can’t compete with… but wine appreciation ISN’T one of them.
