Plan to buy the new iPhone?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Apple is launching an upgraded faster, cheaper iPhone.
An 8 gigabyte model is to sell for $199 starting July 11, according to news reports. A 16 gigabyte model will cost $299. The new iPhones will come in a black case with a white case optional on one model.
Nearly a year ago, Apple began selling the 8-gigabyte iPhone at $599 to eager consumers interested in the bells and whistles of the combination mobile phone, digital entertainment player and an Internet surfing gadget, [ The iPhone is a combination mobile phone, digital entertainment player and an Internet surfing gadget.
Do you plan to buy the new phone? Did you buy the earlier version? If so, how did you like it?

Nope.
I’m a Blackberry user and don’t feel the need to spend $600 to get what I already have, and for less than half the price.

Nope. Never owned one and don’t plan on buying any over priced phones. I use mine rarely for work or personal and only need to use it for what it was originally intended, as a phone. I don’t need all the other gadgets that come along with them. I think there just a status symbol anyway.

No..they are way over priced. I have a basic cell phone and use it rarely for personal and business. I don’t need all the other features these phones come with. I personally think people get them as a status symbol (makes them feel important or cool).

The only people that would not buy one are people that don’t have one. These things are amazing. As a evolved blackberry user..these things rock!

Having been a long time Mac user and Ipod user from the beginning I have waited for this to happen ! Now its time to jump in and switch my old Blackberry out for the new IPhone.
With Sprint / Nextels recently diminished customer service, I have been ready to make a switch, now the time is here ;-)

Steve don’t knock it till you have actually tried one! the larger screen, better interface along with Wi Fi ability knock the blackberry out of the race and the new price being equal to that of the least expensive blackberrys completes it.

Probably. Though only because I’m already in the market for a new smart phone. At the $199/$299 price point, the iPhone is finally competitive with the Blackberry and the Palm.

This is the iPhone I was waiting for (never buy the v.1 of an Apple product). It’s got 3G, more storage, GPS, 3rd party apps, thinner, longer battery life, lower price… sold!
We’ll see how soon I can actually lay my hands on one.

Dear Blackberry User;
Is there something in your BB that keeps you from reading the article before you post? It’s $199/$399, not $600… which is sort of the whole point. Good work, dude.

Blackberry User, did you read the article? It says the iPhone will cost $199 for the 8GB and $299 for the 16 GB. Where did you get $600 from?

I have a first generation iPhone and love it. A life changing device in many ways. I don’t have a land line at home, this is it.
The new one can only get better!

i cant wwait until it is sold to the public my current phone is a laughing stock among my friends and family and what a way to “upgrade”.
the price point is excellent i see Apple having a huge back order for this phone. i reckon that is probably why it wont but out in june but July.
i am just giddy at the thought of being able to watch high quality movies and video while riding MARTA to and fro work while saving on the soon to be $4.39 cost for gas…PRICELESS!!!

$199 is dirt cheap compared to current offerings from Blackberry and Nokia.
In fact, no cell phone maker will be able to justify charging more than $199 for a cell phone ever again.
If you’re paying more than $199 for a cell phone after July 11 and it’s not an iPhone, you’re making a silly decision.

One thing not discussed was the fact that AT&T quietly upped the unlimited data plan by $10/month. Probably worth it, but underhanded anyway. AT&T sux.

I will buy an iPhone when AT&T is no longer the exclusive carrier. Until then, I’ll make do with my crackberry.

Yeah, increased data speed and taking a hit on the phone up front. Not worth $10 a month. Not at all. Loser.

maybe. I’m in need of new phone / PDA / mobile e-mail and will take a look at this. One thing not mentioned is the Mobile Me application. Heard that this is free, but $100 per year subscription required.
Kinda makes $199 phone not so cheap, although there are many other great apps for free / cheap that are in development.

Gary B - you think Blackberry needs to write their obit because of this little phone upgrade? It’s not a business tool - it’s a toy, and Blackberry could care less. You obviously are the typical young apple fan who has no business use for the iphone, otherwise you would understand how massive the RIM market is in the real business world. It’s sort of like how the Mac has a fraction of the market while the the PC IS the computer. The iPhone is the exact same. I have had two iPode and my brother has been a huge apple fan for years, in fact his Macbook Pro is a very slick machine, but Apple products are too expensive and made obsolete by their own company too soon. They make slick products, but they will never be serious business products and they will never have the reach of RIM and the Blackberry. The Apple cult can keep dreaming though.

The Apple iPhone is definately not a toy. Anyone that has one or the opportunity to use one knows this. The email, visual voicemail and real web browsing alone to make it an important business tool. I work in IT as a consultant and every IT shop I have visited through the states and abroad are working to make the iPhone an option to those that do not like the Blackberry or are ready for a change.
The software that can now be developed is amazing. I am really impressed with what the medical industry has done for their internal enterprise applications.
I have used the 1st generation since July, 07 and it is definately a life changing device. Things that were so cumbersome before are now as easy as breathing. The downside before was the price for a lot of people. I think Apple did a good job of addressing this and those who hate AT&T..patience..internal rumors are that this solo arrangement is temporary.

Once again Apple betrays its fan base by improving the product and cutting its prices with not even as much as a “sorry” to those who bought first generation iPhones as recently as last month. Way to p** off your loyal following Mr. Jobs. The least they could do is offer the new product at a substantial discount to those who already own iPhones.
