Burned by knockoffs?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Is that a real Louis Vuitton or a good knockoff?
Do you know? A French commercial court has ordered eBay Inc. to pay more than $61 million to a high-end fashion company because fake goods were sold on the auction site, according to an Associated Press article.
The company, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, contends it was hurt by the sale of conterfeit bags and clothes auctioned on eBay. LVMH is home to such luxury brands as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Fendi and Marc Jacobs, AP reported.
EBay, which plans to appeal the ruling, argued that LVMH is worried that the Internet cuts out the middleman.
“If counterfeits appear on our site, we take them down swiftly,” eBay spokeswoman Sravanthi Agrawal said in the article. “But today’s ruling is not about counterfeits. Today’s ruling is about an attempt by LVMH to protect uncompetitive commercial practices at the expense of consumer choice and the livelihood of law-abiding sellers that eBay empowers every day.”
Have you ever been burned with a knockoff on eBay? Do you pity company that charges $1,000 - even if it is the victim of counterfeiters?

Plastic surgery more acceptable for teens?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Plastic surgery is not just for celebrities and the 50-plus crowd looking to reverse the effects of gravity and age.
Younger patients are getting nipped and tucked, too.
AJC staffer Vikki Conwell writes about the rise in the number of teens 18 and younger having plastic surgery.
Among that group, procedures rose from 59,890 in 1997 to more than 205,119 in 2007, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Procedures included breast reductions and non-surgical procedures such as laser hair removal and chemical peels.
Apparently, the increase is linked to greater acceptance by society, more surgeons and greater access to information via the Internet and television.
Would you pay for your teen to have cosmetic surgery and at what age? Teenagers, have you considered or had plastic surgery? If you had surgery, would you tell?
