Bernie Mac memorial on Saturday

According to Chicago Tribune reports, fans and friends of Chicago comedian Bernie Mac are invited to a public memorial this Saturday. The event is scheduled for noon Aug. 16 at Chicago’s House of Hope.

The tough-talking comedian/actor died Saturday, Aug. 9, after complications from pneumonia in a Chicago-area hospital, his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles.

Prominent Atlantans, including radio hosts Steve Harvey (102.5 FM) and Wanda Smith (V-103), remembered their fellow comedian with fondness.

“I am just numb,” Harvey said Saturday after doing a succession of interviews to CNN and other media while in Chicago. While on the Kings of Comedy tour together, Harvey said, “B Mac killed every night. Every night! He would close the show. He was the go-to guy.”

Mac is expected to be seen in the upcoming movie, “Soul Men,” featuring legendary singer Isaac Hayes, who died on Sunday, Aug. 10. The movie is due for release in November.

RIP a true King of Comedy and all around entertainer and actor.

I love the way he kept it real on his TV Show and starts off with America what am I going to do with these kids?!?! LOL pure comedy! Only Bernie Mac can do it with a

My favorite Bernie Mac moment was when he did the King of Comedy - he poke fun at a certain group without being offensive and you warm up to that group because he convey the message of u got to accept people whom they are regardless of their likes and dislikes.

RIP Bernie I know you got JC in heaven ROFL!!!

Bernie Mac was a man with a special gift of humor. He was able to shed light on everything life had to offer. His sitcom conveyed many important messages for all —I never missed an episode. He will be truly missed and his legacy will live on through the lives of those he touched.

Bernie Mac was more than a comedian. I caught a rerun of an interview he did with Tavis Smiley last night. I saw him in a different light and now realize that he was his own man and did not need all the lights, camera and action. He will be missed.

What a shock to us all. Our plan was for you to recover to see you again on the big stage but the Lord had a better plan and a bigger stage I guess. Such a talented soul. Bernie reminded me so much of Robin Harris (RIP). Legends that will live on and on. Rest in Peace Uncle Bernie.

When I first got a telephone call about it on Saturday morning I did not put much stock into it because rumors were flying as early as late last week about Bernie. Now that I know the truth I am truly sad. Bernie was a real man and I connected with him through his talent and television show like I never had with any other entertainer. Bernie was the real deal. He will be missed! RIP

Being a avid reader there are not many people that I can say are striking to the point of capturing my attention when passing by a tube. However, on 2 occasions I had the opportunity to hear B MAC in concert. I instantly connected to his SMILE, LAUGH, ENERGY and most of all his humor. His REALISTIC way of capturing the example of how the African American MALE, HUSBAND, FATHER & FRIEND in America could approach life with both humor and humbleness will be forever missed!!!

It’s still hard to wrap my mind around that “The Mac Man” is gone. I’ll thought I never met him, being one of his biggest fans, I felt like I lost a brother or uncle. This is a true wake up call to many of us that tomorrow isn’t promised. We should all take a page out of Bernie’s life book. Live life fully….Tresure your family…No matter what life throws at you, always smile….Just be good & kind to others.

Bernie…you are so loved & greatly missed. You will continue to live on in our hearts & in your filmed stand up routines (going back to Def Comedy Jam) & films (you’ll always be Dolla Bill in “Playa’s Club.”)

I bet everyone in heaven is cracking up over Bernie’s jokes. Losing him was like losing one of my brothers. Bernie will be truly, truly missed. I saw the Kings of Comedy when it was in Atlanta, and I LOVED it. He was funny regardless of where he was. He was a true and real individual that I will surely miss. To his family, thank you for sharing your husband, dad and granddad with us. RIP, Bernie. We love you.

I have never connected with a comedian like I did with Bernie Mac. I grew up on the south side of Chicago with many of the same experiences as Bernie. I will never forget the episode of his show when he had to fly home for a funeral. The stories around this visit remind me so much of the experience that I had growing up. The crack head sister, the father you thought was your uncle. Wow, It is so nice to see someone who can take those terrible memories and turn them into something that made you laugh. It some how took the edge off and let you know you were not alone. We will miss you Mr. Mac

One of the best quotes Bernie Mac ever said was when he took the stage at Def Comedy Jam when he came out and said, “You don’t understand, I ain’t scared of you MF’s!” The statement described a man who lived fearlessly, and enjoyed a life well lived. Not to mention that fact that he was married 20+ years which is hard in and of itself, not to mention what it is like as a celebrity. He will truly be missed, not only as a comedian, but also for the man that he was.
