For the love of shoes
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Christian Louboutin, maker of those ubiquitous red-soled shoes, is just a baby in the shoe biz having formed his solo business in 1992.
Still, he is heralded as a shoe genius who understands both the psychology and physiology of shoes.
Louboutin is making an appearance in Atlanta at Jeffrey in Phipps Plaza on Friday October 24, from 1 - 4 p.m. and the public is invited.
The Paris based designer will be on hand to chat with customers and offer a preview of his Spring 2009 collection.
Louboutin was only 10 years old when he first discovered his passion for shoes. A sign at the Museum of Oceanography in Paris featured a stiletto shoe crossed out with a red line as a warning for women not to enter - and possibly damage the parquet floors - with their skinny sky-high heels.
Two things occurred to Louboutin: 1. Shoes can be dangerous 2. Stilettos are incredible and he could design them.
Shoe lovers, when did you first discover your obsession with shoes? Who is your favorite shoe designer?

My favorite shoe designer is Avia. They make the best tennis shoes.
Ha ha…..joking.. but no I do not have a shoe fettish. I have less than 8 pair of shoes. I have two pair tennis shoes (one for everyday, one for the yard), two pair of nice flip flops, and one pair of small heels, just in case, although, I have not worn heels in over 8 years.
Give me a comfy pair of tennies, and I’m a happy camper.

I LOVE shoes! I am known around the cities I work and live in as “the girl with all the pretty shoes”. At last count, I own about 150 pairs. People may not remember me, but they remember my shoes!

Comfort is not an issue for me - the cuteness of the shoe is directly related to the amount of pain I am willing to bear to wear them!

It’s not so much that I love shoes as it is that I can’t bring myself to throw them away.
When I graduated from high school, I wore a 10 wide. When I graduated from college, I wore a 10 wide. When I entered the Navy and when I got out I wore a 10 wide. Unless you are a woman with big feet, you really can’t sympathize with how hard it is to find shoes, especially affordable, cute shoes that fit. I’ve all but given up ever finding a pair of strappy summer sandals although there is this store in Rome, yes Italy, that makes shoes from the mold of your feet, maybe after I win the lottery…..
Perhaps God knew what he was doing when he gave me the feet I have, because I could do some serious financial damage if I could buy off the rack.

Shoe fetish is an understatement for my obsession with footwear (and bags). It started in my early 20s and here I am a decade later and still going strong. I currently have about 87 pairs. I try to keep the collection manageable, so I purge every couple years and give away a trash bag full to charity or womens’ shelters. I’ve never broken the 100pair mark…maybe when we’re out of a recession and my financial portfolio looks better. I don’t have a particular favorite designer…I like whatever looks cute on my feet. I would loove some Louboutins in the collection. :o)

Shoes…Oh my goodness. I LOVE them. Have many colors and styles. Real love for any strappy shoe with a heal, it’s sooo sexy..At last count, I have over 100 pair which includes boots. The good thing is if you buy a really nice quality shoe, it will last for years.

How many of those 87 pair of shoes are on a credit card you can’t pay, at some ungodly interest rate?
I prefer to have my money work for me, not the other way around. Are those shoes going to help pay for your retirement? No, well at least your feet can look good in the welfare line or the soup kitchen.

OMG!!! How I love shoes!! I can pick shoes better than clothes!! How bad is that??
My favorite places are DSW and Off Broadway — great shoes at great prices. On a good day, and if the money’s right, I can buy at least 3 pairs. I just bought these grey and beige fabric/patent leather pumps - LOVE!!!

Love, Love, Love shoes!! nothing makes me happier than finding shoes in my size (10, yes I relate lovelyliz) Once I do, I try to get black and brown. Aerosoles are my faves, not fancy designer stilletos, too painful for me. Comfort, then style are my priorities.

Between my wife, her mother, and her girlfriend…..they have almost 1000 pair of shoes!! What’s silly is that they have shoes still in the boxes from 5 yrs ago….and they buy the same shoes!! I had to show them that they keep buying the same thing in different years! Because of this…and trying to keep up with the ‘style’ (which revolves around a five-year cycle)…..I’ve concluded that women are inherently STUPID!!

Mrs Hughes…don’t be wet blanket. Lighten up…it’s not the number of shoes to be counted on this blog…it’s just people having fun. A nice break from all the drama in the world right now. Have a nice evening…

Mrs. Hughes, your horns are showing. Not everyone that can afford to buy things in life that you may consider frivolous, have credit cards OR credit card debt. You may not have any money and have to watch EVERY penny you spend, and fret over your retirement, but that is not the case with everyone. If I’m not mistaken I think you actually DID work for your money FIRST—or didn’t you? Don’t take such a light hearted blog about being a shoe fanatic and turn it into such a hateful, spiteful little soapbox.

I am a (female) shoeaholic and have been since my late 20’s! I’m sure I have a least one hundred pairs of shoes. Have I worn them all? of course not! If they make it in a size 11 and its reasonably priced, cute and/or comfortable I’ll buy it. And no my shoes weren’t purchased at the expense of my 401K (of which I’ve had for 25 years or on a high interest rate credit card). I even own a pair of hologram butterfly sandals (LOL).

I hate to admit it but I’m a guy AND a shoe w**. The last time I moved, I had more moving boxes of shoes than I had moving boxes full of kitchen goods. I know, pathetic isn’t it? I have boxes of shoes that have NEVER been worn. Some pairs are 8 years old and not yet touched. I do go through a good amount of gym shoes though to be fair to myself but I cannot justify collections of black steel toe boots, sandals, mules, etc. Zappos and Shoes.com would send flowers to my house if I ever quit buying, they’d be sure I was dead.

My best estimate for shoes are about 700 pr. There are shoes everywhere. Closet, Boxes, Under the bed, Behind the doors. Four pair in the car right now and storage. I know I will never be able to wear them all. My girlfriend and I were out boot shopping this weekend, and she blames me for her buying 4-new pair.
It is contagious and addictive. Without a doubt, I always have a back-up in the car because You never know what will come up! Is there a place for the addiction? “Shoe Annonymous?”

For all you women who love shoes I found a great store that carries sizes 9 thru 13 only! A Step Above Footwear at 470 Ponce DeLeon in Midtown is the place. They also carry wides. The store is very nice with name brands and reasonable prices. The lady that runs the store is really nice. They are only open Wednesday thru Saturday. I’ve been a customer for years and recommend it to ladies with larger feet looking for stylish cute shoes. The website is www.astepabovefootwear.net. The new fall shoes are not on the site yet. A shoe lover’s dream come true!

I don’t have a shoe obsession. But because I like comfortable shoes; I’ll spend more than normal for a well made comfortable shoe. My favorites are from Sofft (4 prs) and Stacy Adams(1 pr).

I’m not obsessed with shoes by any means, (I own six pairs, maybe) but Louboutin’s red soles made me understand the physiological reaction shoes can have on a girl. His are the only shoes which make my heart race fast and my eyes glaze over, especially his classic shapes in black.
The only pair of designer shoes I own are a pair of black kitten heeled Louboutins which I can sensibly wear to work and with everything! I wish I could make it to Phipps to meet him this weekend.

Love shoes..When I met my husband, I had about 150 pairs, wasn’t enough room in the closet for all of our stuff, so I got rid of some of them..Now I have about 50 pairs..I don’t have a favorite brand, I just buy what I like..So to everyone that wants to get rid of shoes (size 8), I’ll be happy to take them off your hands..LOL
