3/7: Mandisa’s night again!

Mandisa is the queen of the kingdom and Katharine, Kellie, Ayla, Paris and Lisa are part of her court. In the meantime, Kinnik and Melissa are the likely departures Thursday, as Simon noted. This was a much better night than a week ago, even better overall than week one.

  1. Mandisa (Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” ) — Trivia: She sucked her thumb til she’s 24. Trenyce sang this song season two. Mandisa is singing it even better. Perfect song choice for her in style and lyrics. That was hot! Randy: “Yo. I’m giving you your props. Check it out. This to me is the best vocal by a female this season. She just sent the benchmark.” Paula: “That’s what we’re talking about. Your range was awesome. You sang your butt off.” Simon: “Every one of these girls are going to hate your guts tonight because you made everyone who appeared before you appear ordinary. This is the only one I would rewind on my tivo and watch again. It was in a completely utterly different league.”

  2. Katharine McPhee (Aretha Franklin’s “Think”) – Katharine (now dubbed Mc”Fever”) denied odd rumors that she had dropped out because of pregnancy was denied. She does a rousing version of Aretha. It was entertaining and upbeat. Pitch perfect. She’s winning me over little by little. Randy: “Dawg pound. We got a hot one right here! Very nice!” Paula: “It’s great to see you cut loose. You are a well-oiled machine.” Simon: “I have to agree with Randy. That was a risk and you pulled it off. You made it effortless. You will sail through.”

  3. Kellie PIckler (Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One”) She loves her dog Comet. Anyway, we are hearing a Melissa Etheridge song AGAIN. But she does a fine job. She doesn’t have the greatest voice in the competition but she picked a solid song for her vocals. Love her enthusiasm! Randy: “I knew I liked you before because of the dog thing. I have the dawg pound here. Every week, yhou’ve been very consistent. A great song choice. You did a great job.” Paula: “You’ve got your groove on.” Simon: “You are known as a naughty little minx.” “What’s a minx? she asked innocently. He said, “A nice bad girl.” then the shociker: “I prefer you to last year’s winner,” he said. WOW! “I’m a mink,” she said. “No, a minx,” Ryan said. I think Simon’s in luuuuuv. :)

  4. Ayla Brown (Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” ) – Trivia: she thought her dad was Elvis. She picked a current top 40 hit. It’s a good song choice for her. She really is trying to loosen up, break that robotic thang. And she did an excellent job. I liked her for the first time. Randy: “The song was okay. I think you got to be cautious with songs like this. It’s not a singer’s song. It only has a five-note range. It’s not going to give you a ‘wow’ factor.” Paula: “I love to give you credit. You fight the fight every single week. You are working your butt off. It’s interesting to hear a contemporary song. I think you handled it and rose to the occasion.” Simon: “That was pretty good actually. I love you in your film clips. I’d just love that young person we see on the film be on the stage as well. That’s more appealing than what we heard tonight. It was good but it wasn’t fantastic.” “It was a risk but I feel I needed to take the risk,” she said. “This is more of a performance song.”

  5. Paris Bennett: (Miami Sound Machine’s “The Conga”) — It was light, frothy and good. Not a showstopper, though. Randy: “It wasn’t my favorite choice. You can sing anything. I want you to challenge yourself. You have this unbelievable talent.” Paula: “I prefer you doing uptempo. It’s a very difficult song to sing. I was surprised by the choices you made melodically but they captured my attention.” Simon: “Last week we said do a younger song. But to be honest, it’s your enthusiasm, your age, just the fact, you’re a great entertainer will get you through. I think you’re feeling the nerves because it’s an important week. Vocally, it was okay. People love you. So see you next week.” “I’m going to dance my way to the top 12,” she said.

  6. Lisa Tucker (Tiffany Taylor’s “Here’s Where I Stand”) – She shows off a little Jimi Hendrix guitar playing, which was funny. Then, the song, which was just okay. She does it with verve and finesse and a sheen of professionalism. But again, not a showstopper, not a “wow.” “Still a little older for me… I want you to slay it. It didn’t come off great, great for me, just alright.” Paula: “I see a seasoned performer. I always go back to your poise and performance value is amazing. I wish you had sung a song we could get into.” “We think you’re supertalented but you’re singing songs which sound like your mum’s choosing them. They’re not believable for you. There is a disconnect. You will sail to the next round.”

  7. Kinnik Sky ( Alicia Keys “If I Ain’t Got You”) – She is a chitlins fan. This is a tough song to sing. She does a good job with the verse, but she doesn’t blowtorch the chorus. It sounds off. She needed that final kick which she didn’t quite get. Randy: “I love the song. Started out amazing. Got a little sharp. Caught up with it at the end. I don’t think you nailed it.” Paula: “You found your style. You found your style. I don’t know if you could hear yourself. You were off with your pitch and stayed sharp.” Simon” Midway through, ti was really appalling. It went all over the place. I think you have booked your plane ticket home. At least you can have your chiklits.” Um… chitlins. She acknowledged being sharp but said, “The next time, the only sharp I’ll be is in my dressing.”

  8. Melissa McGhee (Heart’s “What About Love” ) She’s into fast cars. So why not a Heart song? It’s a good song choice for her, a decent smoky voice. But she still has a feeling of a backup singer, not a lead. “That song choice was really good. Got a little away from you at the end. You had the look and the poise. You even sounded like Ann and Nancy.” Paula: “You’ve been improving, you’re coming out of your shell. You are a powerhouse, a force to be reckoned with.” Simon: “I totally disagree. I think that last note booked your plane ticket home, sweetheart. You shouted the song. I think you’ve blown it.”

I disagree, Rodney. I think Florida is voting to keep Melissa McGhee in the competition. I don’t see enough youth vote to cover Lisa, Paris and Ayla — so Ayla will go.

I like Kinnik’s earlier performances, but I don’t see her lasting this week.

My picks: Ayla and Kinnik.

At least we know what they’re teaching them at Starr’s Mill.

It was a weird night, wasn’t it? I liked everybody but, other than Mandisa and Katharine, nobody really stood out. Like I said, I’m pretty sure Kinnik is gone but I’m not too sure about the other girl. It will be interesting on Thursday.

Well…you were certainly right about stealing other people’s names. Must be something else they’re teaching them at Starr’s Mill. I’ll talk to everybody tomorrow when the child is back in school.

Last night’s performances were boring for me again the second week in a row. Mandisa was definitely the best. My prediction is that Ayla and Kinnik are going home Thursday night. But, we may be in for a surprise. O.k. so I spent a few minutes last night voting and noticed that Paris, Lisa and Mandisa’s lines were open. Do they have more phone lines this year or what. I am having no problem voting this year or are they not getting as many calls as I am guessing. By the way, I thought Paris and Lisa’s performances were mediocre and Paris is not doing as good as I thought she would at this point in the game.

Lisa Tucker has to go. She has been on nearly every talent show on TV. Star Search Juniors with Aresenio, Next Big Star with Ed McMahon twice. Her parents must make a living going from talent reality show to talent reality show. After she’s booted from AI she’ll probably wind up on Nashville Star.

GOOD MORNING BLOGGERS!!! The girls definately stepped it up a notch this week. They apparently took what the judges said to heart, they played to their individual strengths, pepped it up a little, and every one of them did good.

That said, it is time to rack and stack.

  1. MANDISA - WOW! The Mandisa express rolls on. While the others have done good, this is truly becoming a blow out. Mandisa is so far ahead of the others it is almost unfair.

  2. Katherine - KATIE’S BACK!!! Great performance, awesome vocals —- And she was SMOKIN HOT this week. Katherine does the sultry look extremely well. Work it girl.

  3. Kellie - Cute lovable Kellie. Belted out the song. Very very good, but Simon is right, she is not in the same league vocally as Mandisa and Katherine, but she does have the “it” factor. We also now know that she is definately a Blonde!! “I’m a mink!” LOL God I love her.

  4. Lisa - good, not great. Another song where she looked a little too polished if you get my drift. Additionally, I think we have seen the limit of her vocals already. Very good, will blossom into a great singer at some point, but not there yet.

  5. Paris - Pepped it up a little. Did good, but not great. For the first time she sounded like a talented teenager instead of a woman. She will go far, but that will not win her this competition.

  6. Melissa - I have her here mainly because of her passion. She put her everything into that song. This was for me her best performance, unfortunately, she is just not good enough, she is at best a club singer or backup to a big star.

  7. Ayla - Probably a better singer than Melissa, but I just don’t “Feel it dog!”. I think this may be the week that the Robot Girl persona finally kills her.

  8. Kinnik - She has some pipes, but like Melissa she is no more than a great backup singer. She did good, and was probably the best she can be, unfortunately it is not good enough.

SO, all in all, a very good week. We learned Kellie really is a ditz. We Learned that Katherine can smolder with the best of them. We learned that Lisa and Paris, while extremely talented, are little girls in a woman’s competition. We learned that Ayla, Melissa, and Kinnik are very talented, but are not good enough, and two of them will be gone Thursday. And most importantly, we continued to learn just how much better Mandisa is than everyone else. She has laid down the gaunlet for the guys — Chris, Eliot, Taylor, Gideon : Are you up to the challenge?

I think Melissa did a bang up job last night, she really suprised me, as for Paris, very pooring, i wasnt moved with her last night. the rest did a very good job, but I think Melissa did outstanding

AmericanIdiot, Ithink you just nailed what bothers me about Lisa and the whole “Polished” thing.

She is truly just rehashing the same “Act” over and over. That is why it looks so polished and canned - IT IS!! She is living her Parent’s dream, not hers, as a result, the endless practice etc has brought out a very fine product, but there is no passion.

As someone else said, the “SMILE” even looks false and creepy. Even creepier than Gideon’s smile.

One word: Mandissa, home run girl…out of the ballpark. I am so over Paris now and her imitating other singers, she is about as original as a 1999 Ford Taurus. I hope Kinnick can last at least one more week and hopefully one more better song choice and send Paris and Melissa home.

Joyce, I don’t see how you think the whole state of Florida is behind Melissa. She and Kinnik are out. And Ayla will be the first girl cut from the final 12. So the riff-raff will be taken care of soon enough.

It is kinda creepy about how Lisa has been on every talent show invented. But Katharin McFee is also living her mom’s dream. I think (and a lot has to happen), that Mandisa and Kelly will be the last 2 girls. I’m not saying they will compete in the finals, but they will be the last 2 girls.

Although….if it came down to those 2, it would be a female version of Ruben vs. Clay. Hmmmm…

Ok, I think we all know who rocked the night last night - MANDISA! Yes, the one name says it all. (Hey, I think Janet needs to blog on here more than a guest -ghost- writer!!). But the ones I think should go: Ayla and Katherine. I know, I know…you all disagree with me on the Katherine bit. But I just don’t see in her all that some others might. First, the pregnancy rumours - where did that come from? DUH - roll back tape from last week and check out your HORRIBLE wardrobe decision…. She also rubs me the wrong way with a fake smile and a too “bouncy” personality. Kellie was ok, she hit some notes that made me cringe, but the girl is adorable, how can you not like her?

The rest of them? Just average and not worth writing about….

Congrats to Mandisa and Katharine. Their vocals last night stood head and shoulders above the rest. I also agree on Lisa being too polished. Maybe ‘robotic’ is the word we should be using for her. It is very unfortunate because she has a great voice. Paris always puts together a good performance but….I’m not sure what’s wrong. It lacks life. Kelly, honestly, how can you not like the girl. Anyone who tickles Simon into actually giggling should stay on the show a little longer. She has a good, not great voice, so she has the creds to stay. Melissa and Ayla…I like them but they won’t be here much longer. Kinnik should pack her bags.

I really enjoyed the show last night. Performances in order: 1. Mandisa-What a phenominal performance. She had me on my feet. Definitely the one to beat. 2. Katharine-Very controlled and a good performance. However, after I saw Mandisa I kind of forgot it. 3. Kellie-I love Kellie Pickler. She is too adorable. The “I’m a mink” comment was priceless. Her performance was also good. Pick Pickler!!! 4. Paris-I was disappointed in the song choice. I thought she would have chosen something that showcased her voice more. It was still a good performance, but not up to her capabilities. 5. Lisa-I’m not her biggest fan so I may have her lower than most people think she should be. She sang ok. I didn’t care for the song nor her theatrics. Did you catch the smile while singing the last note?? It made my stomach turn. 6. Melissa-I liked her performance. I thought she did a decent job. But I have a feeling she’s going home on Thursday. She never got the praised she deserved IMO. 7. Ayla-I didn’t like it. She looked uncomfortable. I actually went to sleep during the commercial break before and I woke up when she was getting the judges comments. Then Mandisa came on. So I had to rewind the DVR to see it during the next commercial break. Hated it!!! I think Ayla should be going home and not Melissa. 8. Kinnik-The biggest disappointment of the night. When she said she was singing Alicia Keys I got excited. Well as you all know that went away real fast. Sorry Kinnik but you’re going home.

LJ, while Kellie definately is adorable and has the “popularity” factor in her corner, she will most definately not be in the finals. She may be one of the last 2 females left though.

Mandisa on the other hand will be in the final 4, and has a very good shot at making the finals.

If I had to predict the top 6 it would be : Chris, Mandisa, Taylor, Eliot, Kellie, Gideon.

shay, I voted for Mandisa all night (yes, I’m a compulsive voter) and it was busy a lot. I only got in about 15 times. Now as for Paris, her line was wide open. I voted until I fell asleep. Do you guys think I have a problem??:-)

I think Kinnik and Ayla are goners. Kinnik’s time is up and Ayla just seems mediocre now. Cute, but mediocre. I think Melissa has stepped up her game and really has a unique enuff voice to make it in the final 12.

MANDISA! That about says it all.

I thought Ayla did a great job on a very non-melodic song. What was that anyway?

I couldn’t be more tired of Paris.

I am getting the feeling that the Pickle is putting us on. Nobody is that backwoods.

The rest? Meh. Who cares? Pick 2 to go home and let’s get down to the real competition.

Bring on the boys!

Why is it creepy that Lisa has been in every talent show? I see it as her trying to get into the business and I happen to love her smile and the sparkle in her eyes. Because she’s not rump shaking and rolling on the floor she’s polished. Please. As for Kellie, her dumb blonde, farm girl routine has worn thin with me. I wish for once she would keep her mouth shut when the judges are critiquing her.

Kinnick will go (and should). Also either Melissa or Ayla. And for some odd reason it wouldn’t shock me if either Lisa or Paris was eliminated. I’m not saying that should happen, just a gut hunch that the baby brigade haven’t been themselves and established personas beyond being really good singers. Both seem a bit PROGRAMMED, though they cover it better than Ayla (who really tried to buck that reputation last night; she just didn’t succeed).

I like Katharine’s voice but she’s not the best fit with the nature of this competition. Kellie, on the other hand, doesn’t have quite the voice but she is herself and a charming, energetic performer.

Oh yeah — Mandisa. WOW. She’s the one, after last night, that I really want to see more of.

Mandisa rocks! Kelly is Dolly Parton without the silicone. It’s nice that a talented and analytical type like Ayla has made it this far although she is outshined by the expressive personalities on the show. Kinnick is homesick. Melissa is just as talented as Lisa and Paris, just not as well coached. “McFever????” pleeeease!

CArla.. I wouldn’t say “no love” but I do think the guys are a better group overall this year. Katherine is a little to Hot-Cold for me to consider her a threat, she is just as capable of a bomb like last week as she is of DA BOMB of this week.

Mandisa and Kellie are the only consistently good ones among the females, and Kellie is personality more than singing talent. Paris and Lisa are consistent, but they come across as an “act” if that makes sense.

On the guys side, Chris, Taylor and Eliot are consistent every week. Gideon has been improving every week, and I think he will stick around well into the finals. All the other guys are a either lacking or fall into the Great one week - Horrible the next category(IE Ace).

Whitney What? from day one i said mandesa is the one.every since big girl did that group song and left that arm up in the air and backed it up with killer pipes! I said.dont sleep on BIG GIRL! Paris babygirl..sorry you dont stand a chance against a WO-man like mandesa. i agree with Simon. Mandesa is the one they gotta beat..fear no one else!

I am writing lines for Kelly’s next critique:

“They got paved streets out here in Hollywood! I ain’t never heerd of no paved streets before.”

“Yeah I wore shoes tonight. I ain’t never owned a pair of shoes before.”

“A fork? I’m supposed to eat with it? Y’all is crazy out here in Hollywood!”

“What’s this in my hand? A mike-o-bone? I ain’t never heerd of such! Sing into it? Sing into the mike-o-bone? OK Simon, if you say so.”

Sharon - you are entitled to your opinion obviously, but in your comments you actually hit on what everyone is saying.

Lisa is an “act”, she has no emotion whatsoever, everything is preprogrammed and just so. She is a very good singer, but something just doesn’t feel right.

Kellie, love her or hate her, is real. Yes she is a dumb blonde farm girl. I can see where some will not like that, to each his own.

You obviously like someone who is practiced and polished, and in that vein Lisa is definately the one to follow. As I said, she has talent, and I truly hope she just let’s go and breaks out one week.

MANDISA, MANDISA, MANDISA was definitely #1 last night. Second place - Kellie and 3rd place- Katherine. The other 3 will definitely be Paris, Lisa and Ayla. Paris and Lisa both have beautiful voices but better work on their song choices are they may go home sooner than they think. Their song choices last night were boriiiiiiiiiing.

Poor Kinnick and Melissa are homebound Thursday for sure. As for Kinnick, if you’re going to sing an Alicia Keys song just go with the flow and sing Falling like everyone else. I could just scream at her song choices. Can’t wait to see what Chris, Gideon and Taylor are going to give us tonight.

dg - I was thinking the same thing about Kellie/Dolly. I could see Kellie having her own variety show. She is an Ellie May. She has the innocence of a young child. I do think it is real. Remember that her mother left and her father is locked up. She hasn’t had a normal childhood by any stretch of the imagination. I love her for the same reasons that Simon does, although I think he is flirting with her. I have to say I have never seen this side of Simon. It’s a bit scary. Kellie - keep your distance from the scary man in the tight t-shirt. Vocally she is not quite to her peak. I think she will remain in the public eye for some time to come.

Mandisa! She has always impressed me greatly. I am thrilled to see others discovering her as well. She is clearly the best of the women. I see the final four including Mandisa, Chris, and Taylor and Elliot. It is anybody’s game from there.

Mandisa blew them all away. As far as I am concerned, the others are floating in the dust. It will be interesting to see the others get picked off one by one. MANDISA ALL THE WAY.

I agree with the others, Lisa seemed pretty good in the beginning, but now she does appear to be a bit polished, more mechincal than passionate.

Paris, may have gotten too confident and has not taken her song choices very seriously. She needs to regroup.

Kellie- Ok, but how long will “cute” be enough?

The rest will just fade into the backgroud.

Wow! I must have been watching another show. I thought Mandisa was just okay – a lot of screaming and a few off key moments. I thought the judges were actually hearing the background singers and thought Mandisa was in tune when she really wasn’t.

I enjoyed Kellie’s performance, but I’m tired of her ‘dumb’ act. And why was she the only one to have a personal clip (her and Comet playing in the yard)? Everyone else just had a studio clip.

Katharine’s performance was okay, but she seemed to be dipping into whatever Paula was drinking last week. She was all over the place after she sang. Maybe she’s been taking diet pills because it does seem as if she’s lost some weight.

Lisa’s eyebrows creep me out – they’re too arched. It seems as if she has something sinister going on underneath all the hair.

And poor Kinnik. That was pretty much awful. She looked good, but the song was just off from beginning to end.

I think Kinnik and Ayla will be gone this week.

What is all this hoopla about Katherine McGee? I think she is an okay singer but she was a slight bit boring last night. Maybe it was her song choice. However, I think Melissa rocked last night! I like her raw and smoky voice! Hope she sails through to the next round. She got my votes. Mandesa rocked as usual! Girls has got some pipes. Paris was just okay, still waiting for the big bang from her! All others are just so-so in my eyes.

Mandisa….WOW! What a voice!

Ayla..You got to go! Not a great voice and there’s just something CREEPY about you. Also, don’t you know if you’re seven feet tall you can’t wear capris?

Paula lied. She said Mandissa sang her butt off. What was that 300 lbs hanging around back there called. Moo! Katherine and Ayla, HOT HOT HOT. How old is Paris really, 65?

MANDISA has officially won me over. I’ve been a supporter of hers since day one, but last night, she sucked me in! I’m quitting my day job to open an official fan club. The girl just rocks. When I heard the first couple of bars, I was terribly nervous. That’s a hard song to sing, and I wasn’t crazy about Trenyce’s rendition when she did it. Frankly, I thought only Chaka could pull it off. When Mandisa finished, the only thing I could say was, “Chaka who???”

MANDISA ROCKED!!!

My second fave is definitely Paris. I haven’t been crazy about her song selections lately, but the girl is mega-talented, and as far as vocal ability, she is undoubtedly among the top 3 ladies in the competition this season. (Plus, she looked so cute in that blue!)

The song selection was much better last night, but I still think all the girls are really struggling to pull through (except Mandisa, who has so much confidence that she doesn’t seem to get caught up in choosing the “right” song, or dancing the “right” moves, or anything like that…. she’s just effortless, and I love it!)

Out tomorrow for the girls: Melissa and Kinnick. Melissa looked so rough. Too much eye makeup and too much screaming. She’s gone. Kinnick was just awful. She was off key for almost the whole song. I was embarrassed for her. Ayla, although not a great performance, will stay. She is elegant and graceful and has a tremendous voice, when she picks the right song. But I hated the long string of hair she had hanging in her face. That is NOT pretty on anyone and she playing with it, putting it behind her ear…obviously a major annoyance.

Yeah I fell for Kellie’s “calamari” act, but I saw right through her last night on the “sallllmon” act.

She’s full of it. And, last week when she sang “Something to Talk About,” everyone liked it… except me. I thought her facial expressions bordered on scary and were at best, annoying as hell. She tried to look rough, or rocker-ish or something, but it came across (to me) as a over-performance…

Kellie and Mandisa are the best. Kellie has more money making potential all over, she is the entire package. Get a grip all you haters…she ADMITS to not knowing certain things, things that don’t matter. It doesn’t mean she is dumb, she is truly the heart of America. Cities do not, never have, and never will represent what America is. She is a true talent. You can be assured she knows more about important things in life than any stupid “rapper” that is dripping in dumbness and stupidity. She isn’t “fronting” the pathetic and tired fakeness of wannabees. Yeah, a “gold grill” is much more attractive, talented and smarter than that…NOT! Hysterical!

Paris—didn’t care too much for it. it was ok, but the song was too fast for her and I didn’t really like her version of it.

Lisa—has a nice voice, but she just fades into the backdrop. Nothing stands out about her. Boring and forgettable.

Melissa—I’ve liked her every week. She has a good voice and performs well. I don’t think she should go home.

Ayla—looked like an overgrown Amazon last night. What was she wearing!?!?! The song stunk and SHE is the one that needs to go home.

Mandisa—was very good.

Kinnik—why did she choose that song? She’ll probably be going home, but I think overall she was much better than the judges ever gave her credit for

Kellie—i still like her. she was good.

Katharine—that was very good. I really liked that song and she did very well!

Bottom three: Kinnik, Ayla and Lisa and out of all of them, I hope Ayla goes home.

Tiffany, first off, I’m not a hater. I just don’t like Kellie. And, there’s nothing big to her not having tasted calamari before, but when she put on the “airhead” act, how do you expect people to respond? Okay, so you’ve never had calamari. Big deal. Neither have I.

Secondly, I happen to abhor rap music. But, even I am sharp enough to know that not all rap artists are “dripping in dumbness and stupidity.”

In fact, here’s a news flash: many of them have built enterprises based on their business acumen and intelligence, making them multi-millionnaires…

Your comment sounded pretty ignorant, IMO.

Well, it was an interesting night for those of us still on board. Deirdre and I had quite a time with some refugees from South Park who decided to co-opt our signatures and make some less-than-King’s-English posts. So much so that a well placed call to Rodney had him shutting the whole board down. Beware of the Post Master lest ye infringe!

I agree with everyone that Mandisa ruled the evening, and possibly the competition from here on. She will be hard to beat as she has so far dominated in every song she has performed, and Katharine certainly redeamed herself to be worthy of Spot 2.

That’s where we part company. I think the third spot really belongs to Melissa. Again, I listened to the night first and rated them from that, then replayed the tape and watched the performances. To me, Melissa’s vocal was solid, even to the ending which tailed off, but was supposed to for pete sake.

With the exception of Kinnik, who’s completely off-key performance cause audible groans from my better half, and MUST go home tomorrow, the others were all good but not great and would be interchangable for me for the next out-o-here spot.

I do disagree strongly with everyone regarding Kelli in that I don’t think you can spontaneously come up with those remarks if it’s an act. I think she is the Real Daisy Mae Deal. I would also bet that Nashville is salivating at the prospect of being able to sign her up. She will be a Country star with that personality, and my husband was dumbfounded when Simon said the same thing I said last week - that I like her more than Carrie. Not as good a singer, but mega-more personality.

Lisa was better for me last night than ever, and People, “polished” is professional. There is nothing wrong with polished and believe me you want it if you go to a concert. Madonna is polished within an inch of her life. She has to be because she’s such a mediocre singer. Don’t turn your nose up at polished. It’s good at a theater.

I just wish Melissa had had more camera time in the beginning. She’s very unstructured and a naturally good performer on stage and her vocals are killer. She has a Pat Benatar/Nancy Wilson voice that you’d buy in a second. I only hope she gets into the final 12 because I think she’ll surprise you.

Hey Lara, first off I don’t need your permission to post my opinion, got it? Second, you make comments about Ayla being tall and she can’t help that but Mandissa knows this industry is image driven and she can help being 400 lbs, at 300 lbs she knew she was obese. You fat women are jealous of the tall thin hot ones.

By Deirdre

Achin, I have always agreed with you about Melissa. She is very good but Simon never ‘turned on’ to her and that’s a little like the kiss of death. I hope she does well in the future, I just don’t think it will be with AI.

You might have missed something I said early this morning. Rodney deleted it, probably wisely, but re last night. Sorry! I should know better than to get myself in a snit over something that stupid. And thanks for the defense!

About Kellie Pickler…..I don’t know whether she has a team of comedy writers or she really is that naive….either way, she’s a hoot…or a mink.

As I posted on here last week, the area that Kellie is from in NC is not a major metropolitan area. Most restaraunts in that area are mom & pops or fast food. I was in my thirties before I knew you could get “sal”mon in anyway besides a can (and yes, in NC the “L” is pronounced). NC people do like to talk and we do seem to keep going on. I have met many in my lifetime that are just like Kellie, if not worse. If you don’t belive me, just drive about 5 hours up I-85 and you will see for yourself.

OH well, A4A - good comments as always.

I guess my problem with Lisa is that she just seems fake. Maybe “polished” was a poor word choice. How about “Plastic”. I see no emotion whatsoever in her singing. She is technically a very very good singer, but she lacks something. Every performance is exactly the same, like it has been practiced over and over and over and over, right down to the position of the fingers, etc. I don;t feel her “feeling” the music, I just see her performing it — over and over and over and over and over.

At the opposite end of that scale is Melissa — It is obvious that she “Feels” the music and her stage performance is spontaneous. I too would love to see her stick around and blossom. I would die for her to bust out Allanah Miles “Black velvet”

Kelly is fine, but I’m getting sick of her. If she doesn’t make it, I see her with a television show or in a ‘gentleman’s’ magazine.

Yo Daddy, you are hilarious. Keep it coming.

Honestly, I think Kellie is real. Think about it, she’d have to be VERY smart and crafty in order to pull off that dumb routine. If she was faking it, that “I’m a mink” comment was quite clever. Y’all are giving her too much credit.

Mike S, I tend to disagree that she won’t be around in the finals. She’s going to get a lot of the Carrie Underwood vote (and don’t forget last year’s quote : Ryan: So, Carrie have you seen any stars in Hollywood?

Carrie: No, it was too cloudy.

Priceless.

I’m not saying she’ll win, but she’s going to be around for a while. Her background story is more appealing than someone whose mother is a voice coach (Katharine) or who has tried out for every talent show in the USA (Lisa).

I think the guys are going to be harder to predict. I’m inclined to say Ace is a favorite, but he’s just Constantine with more talent. Gideon scares me with that smile. The grey-haired guy, Taylor, (you want to talk about somebody who is putting on an act) is OK. I dunno

I too think Kellie is real. MY sister lives in rural NC. Every other person there is a Kellie Clone. Going to Greensboro to see the WWE is considered bigtime city entertainment. No one can be as dumb as Kellie pretends to be. Not knowing what minx means? Come on! On the whole, it wasn’t as bad as last week, but not spectacular either.

Thanks to all for their support but I really got a laugh out of Bo’s responses. I think I hit a nerve. ;-)

Mike, your analogy was good and I think Lisa is suffering from the Dianna DeGarmo Syndrome - pagent/talent contest youngster who has not lived enough yet and has become so polished that she has effectively been stripped of any ability to convey emotion on stage.

I think this may illustrate. My hubby teaches Suzuki violin. He is an ex-concert violinist himself and reads violin music scores like I read the comics. He cannot, however, read piano music. He suffers from Dianna DeGarmo Syndrome. Because he is so highly trained in violin, everytime he tries to learn a piano score, his violin expertise clicks in and prevents him from going backwards to the basics of learning more than one line of music as is a violin part.

I think Lisa, and Paris for that matter, all have it too. They have been doing the youth performance thing for so long that it will be next to impossible for them to un-learn their past techniques to embrace a more emotional, adult performance. A shame too because they are both good.

On to the guys. Gedeon kinda surprised us all last week. Is there anyone else that could step up to the plate tonight? I think Will has potential, but the youth factor is hurting him. And that wide-eyed Kevin Arnold/Peter Brady look isn’t helping either. I wish he’d waited a couple of years before auditioning. He needs to season. Gedeon reminds me of the kids I used to teach way back in the day. He’s goofy but cute. You know that I agree with y’all on the top 3 (Taylor, Chris and Elliot)but is there any guy that’s a lock other than them?

achin4aiken . And you would be whom exactly? cause you say it is so? You have spoken? PLEASE. You have some nerve to act as if MY points are not valid when yet another blogger decides to log on out right comments of disrespect and ignorance. I’m not here for a response from a clay aiken groupie. I am here to speak my mind on what I read, and how I feel about it. ESPECIALLY when it is coming from one who proves to use such tasteless remarks in order to be “heard” Yet you feel as though you can stifle mio? MAUVAIS. It is what it is. Yet again you don’t have to like it. Just telling you like it T-I-is.
