3/22: Kevin (cluck cluck) is out tonight

After Kevin Covais gets a sandy makeover on the Ford Fusion beach and Barry pumps his album, Ace, Mandisa and Elliott are safe. I’m glad Elliott was safe and I’m glad www.dialidol.com was wrong. Then Kellie gets a safe call. Chris is safe, too, of course. And so.. is… Paris! Phew!

Now it’s Katharine and she is safe. And ditto with Taylor.

That means Kevin, Lisa and Bucky are the bottom three. I got all three of them correct. Wow!

Lisa is given a reprieve. I predicted Bucky’s departure. Am I right? Nope. Kevin is outta here!

“Chicken Little leaves us!” Ryan said.

The vast anti-Chicken Little crowd sighs in relief. I’m disappointed. I liked having him around for people to beat up. Oh, well. So I’m wrong. I’ve gotten five of six bottom dwellers correct but only one for two so far in who is eliminated.

Greetings blawgers from sunny, hot South Beach. Seems like everyone had fun today. Deirdre I’m sure you’re happy. I’m a little upset. I wish Bucky would have left first, but Chick was leaving sooner than later anyway. Oh well, I’ll blawg at you people next week. Shout out to my girls peachy, Vin, and Lisa #1. Great posts today Mike.

Top 10: Chris, Mandisa, Elliot, Katherine, Paris, Kelly, Ace, Taylor, Lisa, Bucky…Work your way back and there you go. Although, Ace may go before Kelly.

I liked Kelly up to this point, but honestly, she is starting to come across as a dumb blonde.

I was shocked that it was Kevin! He usually gets on my last nerve, but I thought he did alright this week. I am endeared to Bucky because he’s so Southern, but he is way out of his league at this point. Lisa is so boring, she doesn’t connect with the viewers. Poor Chicken Little, at least he’ll probably get a lot of dates with hot Chicks now. What is a swirlie? Is that like a wedgie or a noogie?

Erika, see yesterday’s comments. The group Live (can find them on i-Tunes) did this version, and Chris used it last night. I did not think it was right to imply it was “his” version, but whatever. It is a great version though.

Although I am glad that I don’t have to hear Kevin sing another note this AI season, we have to salute his efforts.

I bet that no one at his school will ever bullie him, he’s too famous now, and probably he will get a gig in entertainment somewhere (I will not attend). His singing was not something I looked forward to each week and the same goes for Ace’s and somewhat Elliot.

Yes, Elliot, as well as he sings, I cannot get past how terrible he sounds.

As for the Florida 80s, that only means that you are getting your swarm of mosquitoes well ahead of the ATL. I can deal with temp. in the 60s which is what ATL gets during most of the winter. IT was 44 today, but it was 65 yesterday and 70 a lot last week.

As for voting down to 5. I disagree, there could be hidden talent in the 6-8 spots that could improve. Look at Kellie, yes, Kellie. Look at Katharine, whwere do most place her? Look at Lisa, she probably does not get far, but she’s derserving of this moment and I am pleased to hear her sing a lot of the time.

America either voted right last night or somehow “voteworst…” got beat last night. Now Kevin’s votes could go to Ace and he’s not worthy of lasting more than 1 or 2 more weeks. I do not connect with his voice (probably neither with his style).

The best part about Kevin being voted off is that Randy and Paula can’t keep filling the poor kid’s head with lies about his ability. He gave his best performance last night but it wasn’t even close to the talent of the other 10. Mike, it seems to me that DiolIdol doesn’t work all that well. The singer who got the least amount of busy signal time wasn’t in the bottom 3.

I liked Kevin. He will be working with Randy in the near furture I believe. Lisa there is a peronality on sale at K-Mart isle 8 go get it girl, what a boring person and a singer.Paula is on some kind of drug, she should be arrested, it is so clear she is on some thing. Chris will win this whole thing hands down folks. Kelli is now pretending to be some naive country girl that she really is not..but no avail America will buy it for a while.Don’t be too sure on Bucky leaving next week. Paris is a pretender as well she is annoying..Taylor is already a star win or not. McPhee is a spoiled little fat girl. No, I don’t. I think she is mildly ‘mentally challenged’. Did you watch her last night? She was completely thrown when Ryan asked her a question. Getting Over - I loved the “what’s Ballsy mean” exchange. Did anyone catch the exchange between Kellie and Chris.

After Ryan said ” we don;t have enough time on the show to explain that one”, Kellie looked at Chris and said “Huh?” and Chris responded “You don’t want to know” LOL. (yes I read lips)

I am beginning to think this is less and less act, and more and more that she is truly a naive airhead. Don’t get me wrong, it is obvious she is playing it to the hilt (ergo Simon’s naughty little minx comment), but the reason she is playing it so well is she doesn’t have to work hard to do it.

By Braveheart

March 22, 2006 11:05 PM | Link to this

I personally think that Kellie is “for real”. I do not think that she entertained percursory thoughts for landing on AI with the ulterior motive to use naivete to her advantage/win her votes. If this was an after thought, she must/should have known that there are others with a little more talent in the competition and people will cast their votes for them first and foremost.

She is definitely a Country singer, not a great one, just like Chris is a Rocker, and Mandisa and Paris are R&B.

I think that she started that Stevie Wonder song really well - with a Country flavor, but lost everyone’s interest after a while.

Furthermore, How can you criticize that her only prowess as a vocalist is to sing Country when that’s all that Chris does and does really well.

I think that her rendition of that Patsy Cline song was good. Not great, but good. She’s improving, or so I hope.

If you say that she needs a lot of improvement before she could be declared a (Country) singer, I would agree.

Kellie cant be that dumb. why not ask the question in private rather than on stage. She may be vying for the next jessica simpson spot… and jessica is very very rich. just ask nick. Anyway, i am sad to see anyone go. I wont say any harsh words because Kevin does have feelings. AI producers, Simon, Randy and Paula put him there knowing his was not suppose to be in the top 24. Now Ace is an adult. I think he is ready for another scare. Poor lisa has to know her days are numbered….2 times in bottom 3. Notice that Bucky and Keivn both took time to hug lisa before she took her seat. Last week neither Ace or Lisa attempted to hug anyone. At least those to guys have class.

Just one question.. how are you all finding out the theme each week? I heard about Stevie but not the others. I watched the show last night, but i didnt hear the theme. Glad Bucky survived one more week. This has to be a great experience for him. And did you hear Paula name 3 of almost 40 people who were past AI losers to go on a make it big. She didnt mention Diana nor Cory. Those odds of makikng it big anyway are not that great, but i like Bucky’s chances in country. But i dont really listen to country so what do i know.

Paula’s been on That 70’s Show stealin’ dope from the hippie….

Mandisa wins it all; hands down. America loved Kate Smith…remember her…fat as a pig, but Mandisa has that kind of power in her voice and she seduces with her charms. McFever wishes she were that hot… Chris will get a contract. Kelli is cute and dumb as a fox, but not as good a singer as Eliot or Paris. Taylor is a longshot, but he can’t be lazy. Ace is a three dollar bill. Lisa is cute as Kellie, but please, too sunday school. Fire the stage mom, and Lisa could win…Bucky. Nice guy; out of his league.

that was a link from the eastcarolinian online. My alma mater.. it was an article about one of the girls who made it to Hollywood and her experiences there. http://www.theeastcarolinian.com/ you may be able to find it doing a search there. it was a good article. she told how the judging occurred at each of the beginning cities. we knew paula, randy and simon could not see 15,000 people in two days but now we know how that actually works. That definitely was good to know. you actually come a week earlier to audition under tents with AI producers and underlings first. kellie… all i know is i am from NC and i wish she would cut the dumb act. she may be that dumb and doesn’t realize she is that dumb. but my bet is…she wants Nick Lachey and she knows he goes for that type. I too am concerned that Bucky’s confidence is beginning to wane. It aint over Bucky, keep trying.

I had dinner with my daughter last night and we both were just speechless when talking about Chris - She’s 30, I’m older than 30. That’s why he’ll win - Mandisa second. He’s hot, confident, and talented. I would go to his concert as well as buy his albums. He spans the age groups. And, isn’t that what IDOL is all about??? Bye to Kevin…go home, young man and sing in local theatre. Bucky would be good at DollyWood - and I mean that in a nice way.

Good morning everyone…and a good one it is. Thank you, America.

Braveheart, if you get on this morning. You’re absolutely right. Many of the contestants only seem to know how to do one thing. I focused on Kellie because Jane had asked what she would pick to sing next week. Chris has become pretty one note…its a good note….but just one. Ace sounds the same every week. So does Lisa. I think Mandisa is capable of a number of styles and I think she will show us that. Taylor gives the same energy to his music everytime. I guess what I’m saying is that the time has come to start mixing it up. With the 21st century theme, I don’t think that will happen this week.

By G

March 23, 2006 07:52 AM | Link to this

So Chris did a relatively obscure version of “I Walk the Line” and didn’t acknowledge the originator. BFD! I’m sure that was a decision of the producers of AI, probably because Live records for a studio/company that isn’t affiliated with AI. You’ve got to remember that the contestants have very little control of what goes on with the show and business decisions trump everything.

Did anyone notice how much more applause Chris received during the announcement of the bottom 3? He got more sustained applause than any of the other folks. He’s obviously the one to beat. He also just exudes SEX! The hottest guy ever on AI!!!

Mike S and Deirdre, good morning! So I guess we got our wish on Kevin. Deirdre, did you mention what the theme was next week? I kind of felt bad for him last night but oh well, it was only a matter of time before he left the show. I honestly thought Bucky would go first. Lisa seemed a little bit more sincere this week and now I think she realizes she has to up her game if she wants to stay around. But I think Bucky is doomed no matter what he does. The top 8 spots have already been taken by Chris, Elliott, Paris, Mandisa, Ace or Lisa, Taylor, Katharine and Kellie.

Morning Shay. I think the theme is 21st Century music. That gives them about 5-6 years to choose from depending on what side of the Y2K argument you were on.

Good Morning Blawgers and Congratulations. Your wish has been granted. I actually felt sorry for the little guy.

Yo Daddy, you brought up a good point. Who will get Kevin’s votes now that he’s gone? I can see a great deal of them going to Kellie. She’s cute and not really strong in the competition so she will get a few sympathy votes as well.

Deirdre/Braveheart - you are both dead on. So far everyone have basically been one trick ponies.

Mandisa showed a little bit of range this week as she added smoldering Torch singer to the R&B/Gospel sound of her previous songs.

Katherine got a little more sultry with her singing this week too, but it still came across as the same stiff style as before.

Chris - he needs to either just get down with a cool country song (he can do it, you can here it in his voice — some Trace atkins or Toby Kieth) or he needs to do a ballad (he came close to it with Walk the Line). Just something a little different or people will get bored by the time the next 10 weeks are over.

The only others I give any chance of mixing it up some are Taylor (although he will put his unique blues flair) and possibly Eliot (I just know he has a WOW song in him somewhere.)

Ace will whine anything he does, Kellie can do country and only country (and a very narrow band of country at that), Bucky has to growl his way through whatever he does, Lisa is a MIckey Mouse Club singer no matter what she does, and Paris, oh Paris, she is the wildcard, but I think her singing style has been so ingrained from Big mama and grandmama that she cannot go outside that little niche she has been singing in so far.

DOn’t get me wrong, every contestant should play to thier strengths without a doubt, but the past seasons have shown that the winner will be the person that can at least step out of thier comfort zone and be tolerable.

Kelly Clarkson - She was the consumate, she sang multiple genres and did all of them well.

Ruben - he won because he sang both Ballads and rocked it up a little, Clay stagnated with only ballads. (Even though Clay is obviously the more successful now - this conversation is about the contest)

Fantasia - She stepped out of the DIVA roll and wowed the entire country with Summertime.

Carrie - did a passable job outside country, while Bo showed he could not go outside of his rock genre.

Deirdre, I still think Kevin’s votes will go to Lisa. Not saying Lisa doesn’t have talent. But I do think she will get the sympathy votes that Kevin was getting. When you think about it, Kevin and Lisa had similiar characteristics i.e. young and innocent. I may be completely off base, but I think Lisa will now get those very young votes from the teenagers and older grandparents.

Kevin now gone is PROOF positive that votefortheworst has NO power. Those we’ve hoped would leave have consistantly been exiting on cue so I no longer worry. Achin, good to hear from you as always. Get here when you can.

Mike, good work. They are stuck in their little niches now and, unless they are very careful, they will start to, as you said, stagnate. The winner will be the one who steps out of that comfort zone successfully. A number of our singers are capable of doing that. Katharine has to rock the house, Chris has to sing a full length ballad, Mandisa has to go soft and gentle, Kellie has to sound like something other than country, Paris must go modern and youthful, Taylor better think about doing Georgia on My Mind..even though that is still blues, it should make him sit down for a bit, Elliot has to energize himself. Ace, Bucky and Lisa. don’t think it matters, they’re already on their way out.

Actually Deirdre, my wife and I were talking about Taylor last night. I think he is “Playing the game” right now.

I think this weeks song was a tactical choice. HE knows the Idol history — peak to soon and you don’t win. So far Chris and Mandisa have both unleashed WOW WOW WOW performances, while Taylor has just been slow and steady.

I think Taylor knows he has enough support that he is safe, and he is keeping his powder dry. He knows he has “georgia on my mind” sitting in his back pocket, and he is just waiting for the right place to unleash Da BOMB.

There is always one week about midway through where there is no theme, Taylor is waiting for that week, I garauntee.

But by that time, it has already been predetermined by the viewers who they want to leave so the contestants really can’t do anything to redeem themselves.

By achin4aiken

March 23, 2006 08:42 AM | Link to this

Thanks, Deirdre. You are not alone Mike. I think the Idiots, American or not, are definitely one or two people total. The rhetoric is too similar.

First, Kelly Clarkson undoubtedly had NO real say is whether or not her catalogue was used. In normal circumstances, she owns only a fraction of the rights and mechanicals to her songs so it was Clive and the other “managers” that made the decision to withhold or release her songs. Don’t blame her. She may have only had some say in asking them to RELEASE her tunes to Idol. It makes sense to me that she went to them and said, “Come on guys. You’re making me look like a spoiler.”

I also need to weigh in here for comfort zones not necessarily being a bad thing. If Chris keeps within the genre of each weeks selected format, yet either arranges or uses an arrangement which showcases his style, that’s star quality. Making it your own is what the show is about. If he finds no way to make a theme work for him, then he is only buying into the Vegas/cabaret production style that is occasionally Idol.

The show is about building a fan base and he is doing that big time. So is Mandisa but she has less ability to reach across the ages. I think Chris is less talented than Mandisa, Katharine and Taylor, but he is exhibiting a real star’s ability to control the stage. Think Madonna. She is arguably one of the worst singers ever to dominate Pop Music, but that isn’t the point. She commands her craft and any stage she is on, and Chris is gaining the confidence to do the same thing. He needs, for me, to watch his pitch but other than that, he is building his fan base.

That someone else was responsible for the original arrangement is incidental. He is close to being able to pack an arena right now which could propel him to the winner’s circle. To know your craft and your music that well is powerful.

Why does everyone keep saying Chris stole Live’s version of Walk the Line? It may have sounded kinda similar, but it was definitely arranged differently. When they say Chris “made it his own” it basically means it was the perfect song for him to show off his voice, sex appeal, etc. It’s not like they mean he came up with rocking out to Johnny Cash on his own. So don’t be mad at him for “stealing” Live’s version because he didn’t.

I think Deirdre may earlier have made a good point in that Kellie’s naivete might just be founded in a slower IQ. She definitely is too genuine to be calculating and she is becoming comfortable in revealing her ignorance by the fact that she is reacting more openly all the time to things she doesn’t understand or know.

Did anyone see her father’s interview on Fox News last night. We missed it and depending upon the brain trust displayed by him, we might have a clue of how deep her genetic well goes.

For me, she is not a good performer. She looks vacant in the eyes which screams early emotional trauma to me, someone who can’t get to the emotion of a song because she’s spent so many years supressing painful emotions. I don’t want her to win but she may be real.

Here’s a thought… Many of Kevin’s supporters may simply choose to not vote at all now that their horse is out of the race. Those that do continue to vote probably have varied tastes and his voting base could be spread around fairly equally. You just never know and that is what makes this whole process so much fun. It’s all about what people like and what connects. I connected with Kevin and I’m kinda sorry to see him go, but there are at least 5 others still alive that I think have a legitimate shot at this thing and I’ll keep watching just to see who takes it. That’s what it’s all about. Right??

Chris isni’t originial. Chris copied the band called Live’s versiono f I Walk the Line. He didn’t add anything or make it original. He simply ripped off Live’s version. Go check it out - it’s on their greatest hits. He stole their arrangement and didn’t give them any credit for it. Taylor is the only original person in the bunch.

March 23, 2006 09:27 AM | Link to this

Breakfast, everybody. I was hungry. Aiken, two things. You are absolutely right about Chris. The guy has a following based on his abilities, good looks and command of the stage. He will be hard to beat…I’d still like to hear him do a ballad. And, thanks for the agreement on Kellie. I sincerely believe, and I don’t mean this to be funny or catty, that her IQ is below normal. Not so low that she is unable to function normally but low enough that it affects her ability to understand some of the stuff going on around her. I started to doubt that a little during last night’s show when she waited until the camera was on her to ask What’s ballsy but she may have been asking that all along and we don’t know UNLESS the camera is on her.

Shay, you are probably right about one of the favorites being on the bottom next week. It is going to happen soon.

Mike, the votefortheworst thing…I think they’ll lose some membership if they recommend voting for Paris. She is clearly not the worst. However, this tact might be even scarier. Pick someone who’s good and has a decent fanbase, then try to control who wins that way.

yeah, i’d agree that bucky and lisa will prolly be in the bottom 3 next week and as we all know, as each week goes by, our faves have got to go…..so who will be in the bottom 3 next week with bucky and lisa? Elliot, Ace, Paris perhaps??………just depends on their voting base. I think those are my bottom 5 at this point.

Votefortheworst is putting Kelly up as their next candidate according to FOX. Kelly is not as stupid as she portrays. If she really didn’t know what ballsy meant, she had a whole day to ask someone. Instead she saved it for her cornpone act.

I was relieved by last night’s results also. I had the bottom 3 correct, and thought Kevin would have enough votes to push him through for just one more week. This was not what I wanted, just what I thought might happen. I was just a little surprised to find that his vote support had tapered off that quickly. I’m glad Lisa gets one more week/chance to get it right. Unless they have a huge rebound, though, Lisa & Bucky might be right back in the bottom as they were this week. The remaining 10 are going to make this year’s Idol a huge competition now! This is getting really good, now!

She may have been asking what it meant all day but couldn’t remember the answer.

Also, Kellie certainly isn’t the worst either. I think they might be shooting themselves in the foot here.

Peachy, South Park was a classic last night. Matt & Trey are geniouses, Obscenely vulger geniouses, but geniouses non the less.

The way they just trashed scientology last night was priceless. And the ending - “Do not be mad at chef for the things he has done and said the last few weeks, be mad at the fruity little club that scrambled his brains.” was a classic.

That is an episode that will live on as one of thier greatest episodes ever.

Chicken Little is finally back working the drive-thru at KFC where he belongs.

I gotta say that Mr. Manilow did ok for himself last night with Love is a Many Splendored Thing. I was so glad he didn’t sing Unchained Melody - yes, I have to admit, I am a “Dancing with the Stars” fan and was extremely disappointed at his rendition of the song performed on that show.

Hopefully Bucky will be the next to go…..

Jan, the version of Unchained is no better on his album. It is obvious that while Barry still has a very good voice, that time and strain have taken away his chops. Even last night he cut back a couple of notes, and lowered the songs strength greatly.

Unfortunately the last two weeks we have seen what father time does to a person’s voice.

I bought “Genious Loves Company” by Ray Charles last year (recorded just before his death) and almost cried listening to what the ravages of time had done to that wonderful voice of his.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Barry’s got to be in his early to mid 60’s and he never had what anyone would call a classic voice. But he sure could sing a love song “back in the day”. He’s not exactly the best looking guy on the planet either but has managed to make himself famous. His music-mentor career will soar, I’m sure.

Mike S.: I agree with you about Paris, she will be the wildcard next week and I think she’s definitely going to break out of the mold and suprise us. All of the contestants should be good next week because they have so much to choose from in the 21st Century. Everyone will have to BRING IT next week because the bottom three could be a suprise. Kellie has learned how to play dumb way before she got on the show. It’s an old, revered, reliable way of getting attention. I should know because I’m now an old “dumb” blonde with plenty of brains. It has served her well in the past and it’s probably what’s keeping her on the show now.

Sarah that was funny. I actually laughed out loud. I was thinking the same thing about Paula’s wig. I hope Lisa steps her game up next week. At this point, I like all of the remaining contestants. All of them deserve to be there. Paula was wrong when she said many of the idol hopefuls in the Top 12 have gone on to have great careers. You can only count them on your hand. What happened to Nico, Nadia or Vonzell? Remeber they were told they would have amazing careers. And what ever happened to Mario? Didn’t he allegedly sign with Puffy’s label? What was up with Fox5 doing that jailhouse interview with Kellie’s dad? I guess it was a slow news night.

I am just not understanding the attitude that all these people have towards Kevin. My cousin called him “cocky”, and I just don’t see that. I see this little kid, hanging around people much older than he - the way he deals with them is to try to joke around on their level. Simon used some reverse psychology the other night, to get people to not vote for Kevin, thinking he could be safe.
Really pay attention to the things Simon says from week to week - even though people vote for their favorites, I think he has definate influence over how much and even the way some people may vote.

If someone could please tell Kellie to quit the dumb blonde act, I would appreciate it. It is getting old. And although she has the raging hormone vote - she will start to lose people due to the annoyance factor!

Was the theme top songs from the 21st century or something like that.

I THINK LISA AND MANDISA AND PARIS NEED TO GO, BECAUSE MANDISA IS FAT, PARIS IS TRYING TO ACT LIKE A BLACK KELLIE AND LISA WELL SHE SPEAKS FOR HERSELF.

By Mike S

March 23, 2006 10:31 AM | Link to this

YOu are dead on Mike — Kellie is consistantly in the top 3-5 in every poll on the web, whether she deserves to be or not. She is going nowhere.

I will even predict that barring a total meltdown, Paris will be gone before Kellie. Paris is fighting with Mandisa for votes, Kellie has her little group of fans secure already, and she will gain more once Bucky leaves in the 2 weeks.

Nothing to do with talent, just demographics. Kellie has the likability facter — she is actually this years Anthony, John Parker, etc etc. — Simon even predicts she will be in the final three, for exactly that reason.

This is the order I think they will leave us :

Bucky

Lisa

Ace

Eliot

Paris

Katherine

Kellie

Mandisa

Chris & Taylor in the final.

That list is not my preference mind you, and is not based on talent, it is based on what I percieve to be the voting lines at the moment.

And Fantasia came off as being just as dumb, but without the cute innocense that Kellie has. Yet Fantasia won. Paula: Duke, you are so adorable, and (hiccup), everybody jus wuvs you.(he he) I think I want another salad.

Simon: Duke, let me be totally honest with you. These are the worst blogs I have seen in a bloody long time. I mean, really, Duke, you remind me of a drunk ACLU member at someone’s wake. What in the bloody hell do you think you are going to accomplish with this charade?? At the end of the day, Duke, if your parents divorce, they will still be first cousins. Ok, so consider a match-up of this year’s top six against the previous winners (plus Clay): Taylor v. Clay, Chris / Katherine v. Kelly, Kellie v. Carrie, Paris v. Fantasia, Mandisa v. Ruben.

Cherokee Dawg — here are my picks

Taylor/Clay - Taylor, I like sould better than ballads.

Chris/Kelly - Chris, PErsonal prefernece Rock over pop

Katherine/Kelly - Kelly, but that could change if Katherine steps up.

Kellie/Carrie - Carrie, this is not even close.

Paris/Fantasia - Paris, I am just not a Fantasia fan.

Mandisa/Ruben - Mandisa, not even close.

By GApeach

March 23, 2006 11:34 AM | Link to this

Hey everyone!

Have to say I was SOOOOO glad to see Kevin go. I just think he was way out of his league. And really, his being all noble at the end can’t make up for all the attitude and bigheadedness he’d been displaying. I think it was right that he left.

I figure next week will be Bucky or Lisa, depending on how they do. Perhaps Ace will bottom 3 again. Oh to be so lucky.

You know, I really think Kellie is just a bit ditzy. And considering how messed up we know her parents are/were, we don’t know if she was subjected to any drugs/alcohol while in the womb. (this may be really stretching it!) But anyhow, fetal alcohol syndrome or any type of drug could really affect a person greatly and we just don’t know about Kellie. Then again, being raised by grandparents could in itself have caused her to be a tad “out of the loop” on things. I mean, most grandparents aren’t that “hip” if you know what I mean. Regardless, I like Kellie and think she has a good voice.

Sorry for the kellie tangent.

Anxious to see/hear what the 21st century music brings. This gives a lot of wiggle room- let’s see who tries something new and who brings the same old, same old.

Have a lovely day- even if it is a cool, cloudy one in the ATL.

It isn’t nearly as easy as he makes it look. I’ve always been pretty impressed with his ability to think on his feet. Yeah, sometimes he can be pretty lame but we’d all have some trouble coming up with the right thing to say under that much pressure.

Barry Manilow is a consumate performer, a great singer, and a heck of a nice guy. While he may not fit the younger generations’ idea of greatness, the Idol contestants should be grateful for a once-in-a-lifetime mentoring opportunity. I wonder how many of the fans here know that he was with Bette Midler during the early days. He absolutely showed how it should be done last night. His commanding show received applause during practically the entire performance - it was unmeasurably better than Stevie’s last week. Barry was obviously humbled and genuinely thrilled to be a part of American Idol. He is an American Idol.

PS: Don’t respond to the negative Idol bloggers here, and they will hopefully go away.

There will always be whole bunches of things we don’t know about each other. That’s one of the things that makes these forums work….no prejudgements..just opinions…good or bad. But what is also good, is that as time passes and we continue to talk, little bits of info are thrown into the mix that add some clarity and give us a chance to get to know people we might not ordinarily have met. City dwellers talking to suburbanites, different races, religions and sexual preferences mixing together in what is usually( with some notable exceptions)a stress free chat about a common interest. The world just might be saved because of blogs like this. Sounds dramatic but everything starts with baby steps.

By kim

March 23, 2006 12:46 PM | Link to this

They got the bottom 3 right, though Bucky could have gone before Kevin this week. (And by the way, Bucky’s stage walking looks like a praying mantis…I know he can’t help that he’s tall and lanky, but it just looks funny the way he crouch-walks around constantly.)

Though she has gotten somewhat boring, I still feel bad for Lisa who will undoubteldy be in the bottom 3 consistently every week, until she leaves…Seems like such a nice girl. And they did set her up for a big fall…During the final 24 weeks, they kept telling her how great she was…I’m sure she thought this would never end no time soon…now she’s fallen all the way Now the bottom in everyone’s eyes.

But of course, people’s opinions and thoughts are flaky, fickle, and get tired and bored quickly. Earlier on, the judges (Simon) were saying that Chris just DIDN’T have any star quality..definately wasn’t idol material. Now, they just can’t stay off his jock long enough for him to put on clean ones. And it don’t seem that nothing much has changed about him since them except the strobe lights…and people growing bored with the others who mere more obviosly talented early on.

Taylor is still the same Taylor, people are just getting bored.

But in the end, after all the smoke clears, it will be hard to say goodbye to the real talents: Chris, Mandisa, Taylor, Elliott, and, yes…Paris (in spite of whatever antics people don’t like, you must admit that Paris can TRULY sing, and probably has the strongest naturally talented voices-period). And honestly, I would really love for Elliott to win. The AI title could do the most for him…and the others will be alright anyway. I would love to buy his album. If you just listen to his voice, it’s all that.

(excuse the previous typos…rushing)

…and oh, I forgot about Katherine…It will be hard whenever she leaves as well (unless she ends up winning), because she also has a nice (well-trained) voice. She and Paris could really nail a jazz song. Though toe to toe, Paris would probably blow her away (without even trying as hard or “yelling”).

But this year, it will be hard when it comes down to the bottom 6…and we haven’t really seen that before. And it could be hard even sooner, if Kellie and Ace out-stay those previously mentioned. And even those two aren’t all bad, and can do pretty good on a good day.

And the interesting thing is that all of them are actually just as good as many entertainers out…and better than most actually. I hope they all end up with some type of career. (If Barry Manilow had ended up in this competition in his day, he would have been the modern day “Chicken Little”…but look at him now…he’s got Fanilows coming out the wazoo…so hang in there Kevin, and even Bobby too…shout out to Bobby last night.)

i so did not want chicken little to get voted off. bucky was way worse them him. Come on the first couple of american idol episodes you guys did great on voting but now its like whats the point. but just got to make sure that bucky leaves sometime. he’s too much of a rock sounding to be on a pop show. as what simon cowell says its a pop show not a rock concert i actually found that funny. oh and his brother’s name is rocky funny. anyways i hope mandisa and paris get both runners up. im hoping that mandisa wins she’s just ausome! Paris is great too!

Good Afternoon everyone, I’ve enjoyed most of the post today execpt for the multipled personallities. As far as EllieMae - Sorry KellyMae is concerned she certainly looks intelligent enough when she is being told whether she is staying or going. She then reverts back to her “I’m gong swimmin’ the in the cement pond” routine. It’s really ashame if she feels needs to do this to get voted because when she’s on point she can really sing. It’s too far into the game for her to suddenly change so I guess we’re stuck with this phoney and unnecessary act.

Kim, it is difficult to dismiss any of the talent this season. We have 5 or 6 people who are capable of being the winner. Have we ever had that many before? Sure, Chris fans will be upset if Taylor wins and Mandisa fans will not be happy if Katharine or Paris wins but they are all talented enough to be in the finals.

By Msteven

Correction Dierdre..I meant to say David Cassity and The Partridge Family..notice I put his name first because no one else in the group sang lead(or mostly lead)..as you can see I LOVE all Music. but you already know that.:-)

I just got back from lunch. Thanks for the nice comments Deidra & Vin. Not sure who saw it a couple weeks ago when I put in here that I would probably lose my “gay” card since I liked country music, NASCAR, & used to live in…oh my…a trailer park.

As far as a good song for Bucky…Chrome, Honky Tonk Badonkadonk or any of Trace Adkins upbeat song. Trace does that same type of “squatting” when he sings. Of course he is a little more gifted in the looks department and it drives the “ladies” wild.

Brittany, this show is not specifically “pop” likie it is in other countries. Only 1 of the 4 winners so far has been pop. One was R&B, one has gone to gospel and one is country. It is “American” Idol which means any genre of music can win. But mostly, like Simon said a couple weeks ago, it is more of a popularity contest. Whoever can become more popular with the American population that votes, will win.

For those of you who do not like Nashville Star, skip this paragraph. Nashville Star does not have all the auditioning process on air like AI does. They dive right into the compitetion. I think puts more weight on the performances because people cannot predetermine their favorites. Also, voting is limited to 10 votes per phone line and 5 votes for email address.

Mike S, I think the sooner Bucky goes home the more it will help Pickler. She will definately pick up most of his country fan base. I think Chris could pull some of that base if he would take on a “Wonderful Tonight” or even a “My Love” kinda song. It would be risky since the judges are convinced he is so true, but I think he made need a trump card somewhere along the way….

Did I mention that I once sang backup on two numbers for Barry Manilow? When he toured in the 80’s, he would ask the local college chorus to rehearse and join him on “One Voice” and “I Write the Songs.” He came out and met us before the show and he was very nice and complimentary. He wore a little fuzzy pink sweater.

By Deirdre

I don’t think a little country would be risky for Chris. He could fit right in to that genre while still keepiing his rock roots. That would divide Bucky’s votes betwwen Chris and Kellie.

Yo Daddy…I wouldn’t have pegged you as a Manilow groupie :) I have a little connection to Barry as well although its just gonna make you guys laugh. Barry’s mom was my dad’s NYC based secretary. Her name was Edna and she was a very nice lady. She was always trying to set Barry and I up. This was just a short time before he became famous…while he was working with Bette Midler. I never actually met the guy but she would show me pictures and I’d do my best to wiggle out of the set-up. I spent a few years kicking myself. Barry wasn’t my type and I don’t think I was his type either.

“American Idiot”—I think your name says it all. Why don’t you go find something productive to do? Personally, I enjoy talking with people any way I can.

Hey, I think that the public is doing a pretty good job this year in their judging. And the talent this year is the best so far even though there are a lot of teenagers who do not have a lot of life experience behind them. As Simon said, “Now we have a competition” (or something like that).

Hey guys, I’ve been wondering something. What happens if 2 of the idol contestants want to sing the same song? I mean, it could happen. How would they decide who gets it?

Do they have a list of some kind to pick from or just pick ANY song out of the genre-or whatever generation they are doing? Seems awful broad without some kind of a list.

Curious…

I knew it!! I predicted last week that chicken soup was going to meet great clips in the gauntlet. Which one sleeps with Flavor Flav has yet to be determined. Take that Joe millionaire! That’s awesome.

I’m just glad that I’m so brainwashed that I fail to realize that this show is nothing more than a focus group. That the producers schlubbed out a family-friendly cast of marginally talented celebrity wannabees. And you get to pick ‘em. Keep thinking that. Pretty much like they would assemble a group of strangers from various backgrounds to determine which toothpaste they would most likely purchase. Then they toss in the whole you decide America scheme to make you think you’re in some way responsible for making a “star”. That’s hilarious. You’re votes, America, are nothing more than statistics to predict potential album sales. They want to figure out which of these clowns you’ll drop your cash on. Mark my words…”Chicken Little” will not be idle long. He’ll probably have a contract LONG before the winner is selected. He’s a kid, but he has a lot of potential. He could appeal to the younger and older sets, if not those in-between.

The contest will come down to Taylor and Kelly or Katherine IMO, although I don’t think the people will vote another country-type singer through, since Carrie won last year. It’s a shame, because Kelly can definitely SING. And that’s what this thing is all about. SINGING TALENT!

Paris needs to quit trying to act so cutesy, and concentrate on singing instead of yelling. I’d like to see her voted off next week. You may rant and rave about that, but that is my personal opinion, and I am entitled to it. If you think Ace is the big camera mugger, you must not be watching Paris. She is too worried about the people at home SEEING her instead of trying to sing a decent tune. Her immaturity, both emotionally and talent-wise, is shining through brightly.

paris needs to quit acting cutesy? honey, she’s 16 and she IS cutesy… sometimes… sometimes she’s 16 going on 35…

when she’s talking, as she herself said, she’s nervous, anxious, eager, YOUNG, excited…did i say YOUNG?… when she hits the stage, she’s already had the training via her talented and professional relatives, to learn that “stage presence” … it overtakes the youthfulness and sometimes is almost too much… rather than trying too hard to be more “mature” i think paris is struggling NOT to be too mature for her age, and so she sort of bounces back and forth….

eh…what do i know? it just seems that way to me!

Tina, are you still around???…I know that I’m on the late show, but I really do hope that Elliott gets a great contract, if he doesn’t win…which he is not likely to. But a great opportunity for him would just make me feel good…He can truly sing, has soul, and even has a touching story…I mean the insulin pump had me at hello. Go Elliott!!!

And I know that I’m having a flashback here, but I sure do miss Gedeon. Now that young one could really sing too. Say what you want about his smile and painting. He’s a true talent who really got robbed by a drummette and a lucky Bucky.

But keep smiling and singing my little mechanical-looking friend. Though he kind of reminds me of a character on Batman and comes of robotic, I can tell that he’s got true soul and a warm, courageous spirit.

Now excuse me while I go get myself a tissue.

Achin4aiken the article was by a girl named Jennifer who was cut in Hollywood. Some saw her remarks as sour grapes. She did not like Katherine or Ayla. she thought they were both stuck up b**’s. She made it until the last day. when she was placed in a room that did not hold Chris or Ace she knew she was gone and she was right. She believes that several really good singers were cut for no real reason other than the fact that they did not have a good story. She liked the experience but not the experience. She also said she was never seen on tv until she was leaving after getting cut AI had a blurb over her mouth when the camera hit her face. she was mad becasue she did not say nothing for the bleep but one was placed there. She also said the room that was sent home did have a moment when they were cheering each other on and being happy about the experience but AI never showed that. She gave us details as to how the real auditions go. They actually start a week earlier and you audition in groups of 4 or 5 under tents. Then some of those are called back for the next round, then those who make the next cut get in front of Randy and them. Also, they didnt show the city auditions in the order that they actually occurred. The people who sang the songs really horribly, like Lady Marmalade did that before Paula and crew even arrived. They had not been cut when they did that.

rolls eyes heavenward not bashing… joking… and MOST of the gay folk that i’m acquainted with take joking in stride so long as it is not malicious… in fact… some of the BEST gay jokes i know came from this absolutely DEEEEvine man who just didn’t —unfortunately— care about women as companions… ah well, my loss indeed… anywho… as some of the detractors who pop in on this blog occasionally point out “its JUST a tv show for cryin’ out loud” … we enjoy the debate, the ripost’ing of (s)words…but we (well most of us) are not out to diss anyone or hurt anyone… and there are so MANY different types of folks here that diversity is a mainstay… sooooooo… john mcL… relax!!!!! and join us for a toast to the AI for ‘06!!!

right Rodney?

Achin4aiken the article was by a girl named Jennifer who was cut in Hollywood. Some saw her remarks as sour grapes. She did not like Katherine or Ayla. she thought they were both stuck up b**’s. She made it until the last day. when she was placed in a room that did not hold Chris or Ace she knew she was gone and she was right. She believes that several really good singers were cut for no real reason other than the fact that they did not have a good story. She liked the experience but not the experience. I have been in business meetings all day, so probably no one will even get to read this since everyone BUT me has gone home but….

First - Kevin being voted out should be proof to all non-believers that God does exist, and He is good!

Second - I thought American Idiot was hilarious. I take no offense. Primarily because I can’t get upset with someone who is so clearly mentally handicapped. He/she really can’t help themself. It’s really not their fault. Lobotomies are tragic, especially in those under the age of 7.

Redgal are you related to Kellie? That plastic, pawpaw, boobs blog got me thinking you may be more blond than red.

JimJ. Wow! Unexpected but true: “I am as redneck as he is but the boy can’t sing” and I could not agree more. I guess he sang better than about 10,000 others and then a little better than 110 and then 36 others. Talent was good to great at 8 or 9 of the 10,000, but that Bucky made is that far tells me that it dried up after that.

SPIKE? Are you that Spike that….ah, never mind.

And last, yes, Katharine is a little “dull” in her performances as some say, but with each step she took in the dress she wore Tuesday night I felt I got slapped (back) with each step she took. Wow! She’s got back, front, top , and BOTTOM. What a gal! What a gal! I bet Spike loved that too unless she’s not her “type”.

To my loving AI Family:

I am considering pressing charges on American Idiot and anyone else who tells more lies about American Idol: The greatest show of all time. (if you don’t think so, you are brainwashed) Don’t make me take your butt to court, jack. Tell one more lie. I dare you. American Idol is LIFE. Without AI, we would all surely die.

What you don’t understand is all these posters are my good friends. I will probably never meet them in person (I am a germophobe) but we still have a kinship that can not be understood by someone out of the AI loop.

These people are here for me when I wake up every day at 2PM. Think about that before you run your mouth again, amrican idjit. Don’t make us come after you.

You think I am kidding? Read back in this thread. We wake up and get on the computer, not to participate in a thread or to offer anything constructive, but just to come on and say “hello” and good morning to each other. We are a big family: True friends with AI as the glue that holds us together. Don’t make us get out our light sabers and come thrash you. (Although I would love to get out my Luke Skywalker costume again before the convention later this year.)

I can feel the love of my fellow bloggers through the keyboard, so don’t belittle our feelings for each other. We are all BFF. Something tells me you don’t know what BFF stands for. Big surprise. If you were in our family, you would know. But you are not. We are all Best Friends Forever.

So let me make this clear: If you cannot commit to complete devotion to the show, you are not allowed to post here. You have to earn your place in the brotherhood. You are hereby banned. No AI talk for you.

And a shout out to all my good friends here..I love you guys! Please email me. Or at least mention my name in a post. It just makes my day when you guys talk to me, or even about me. You guys are awesome. Together we can change the world!

Don’t let these people intrude on our blog. AI fans own it! We must fight for it. NO HATERS!

Without American Idol, we would all die. Show some respect.

I love you guys…please call/email/AIM.

American Idol is LIFE!

KEVIN should still be in the TOP TEN! While he may be small in stature, his songs were wonderful and his voice was the best among male contestants. The nickname of chicken little given was biased and unfair. None of the other contestants were rediculed this way. If American Idol is truly a singing contest, as Simon says, how could anyone send this brilliant young performer home. I wish America had more young men with his talent and intelligence.

NEWS FLASH….BREAKING NEWS…..

I have on good authority that Chris had eggs for dinner last night.

No salt, lots of pepper. Side of hash browns. Tabasco sauce. Water with lemon wedges. HOW EXCITING!!! I can barely breathe. This is like the most important thing that has ever happened to this country!!

PS…Rumor has it that he had half of a chocolate chip cookie for dessert..but don’t quote me on that! HOW RICH, huh? GOD, this is SOOOOOOO exciting.

Since I have been so kind as to share this information with you, PLEASE offer me the same coutesy.

If you know something important about a celebrity…like what color socks they are wearing, or what they are eating for lunch, please let me know too. My life depends on this. Celebrities are so awesome!!
