5/2: Who’s going home?

I was at Mike & C’s restaurant, where the Paris Bennett family members gather each week. I got there late and missed Elliot’s “On Broadway” performance and watched it later when I got home.

Who’s going home? My intial instinct: Elliott and Paris will be in the bottom two. Who will go home? It’s going to be a nailbiter but Paris will go home. I don’t necessarily want her to but such is life.

Overall, Taylor finally raised his game, Chris held his own, Kat was erratic, Elliott was solid but made a lousy song choice with Michael Buble and Paris did what Paris does but you could feel a bit of strain at times.

As expected, the Dialidol.com numbers show Paris at the bottom. But Kat is doing worse than Elliott. Kat is close enough to Paris that it could be like last week, where Kellie wasn’t at the bottom but within the “margin of error.” Elliott is battling Chris for second. No surprise that Taylor has the most busy signals by far and for the umpteenth time is at the top.

  1. Taylor “Play That Funky Music” “I’ve had more hair changes than Ryan Seacrest,” he joked. The 25 Bennett family and friends loved Taylor’s performance of “Play That Funky Music.” Those dance moves! That shirt! Woo!! He’s got it going on! I was deeply entertained but expect a nasty Simon comment. Randy: “That another wild choice. I felt I was in a bar and had a couple.” Paula: “This is the authentic Taylor that we love.” Simon looks exasperated. “It was like a horrible horrible wedding performance. Sorry! Sorry!”

  2. Taylor “Something” This was a cheat, from the top pop catalog chart, grabbing a 35-year-old Beatles song. But after the word that he wasn’t able to get his first choice last week, this is almost a makeup. It’s a song handed to him on the platter and he eats it up. He’s very subtle and I love it! Randy: “You chose a great song.” Paula: “It’s very daring to sing a song like that. You moved it tenderly. You didn’t oversing it.” Simon: “I don’t know how you got a song that is 30 years old to songs of today. That was clever. It’s very easy to forget with all your balminess (huh?) that you’re a very good singer.” Maybe that’s a British term but bauminess??? Can someone help me? (From whast posters below have told me, it apparently means wacky. which fits.)

  3. Chris “Renegade” “I was destined to be a musician,” Chris said. Chris captures the song’s angst perfectly. He’s in complete control. Randy: “All I can say, America, we have a real hot one tonight!” Paula: “Outstanding. You’re already setting it far apart from anyone else.” Simon: “That was a million times better than the first two performances. Great choice of song.”

  4. Kat: “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” She’s literally on her knees, begging us to vote for her. Or… something else. Somehow, it works. She channels KT’s song fairly well though she smiles a bit too much. Having seen KT do it live, it’s not as good. But overall, she redeems herself after “Against All Odds” and may have saved herself from elimination. Randy: “This is a wild show tonight. That’s more like the Katharine I grew to love.” Paula: “I love the choreography and intimacy. A much better performance.” Simon: “This is a strange show. Taylor’s lying down, you’re on your knees. I much preferred that to the first song. It was different. It was younger, a good choice of song.”

  5. Elliott “On Broadway” He’s in the zone with this song, as we expected. It’s a wonderful tune and he does a better job than last year’s white R&B dude Scott Savol. Randy: “Started a little rough but by the middle of the song, you got it together, showed off that wonderful tenor.” Paula: “You have such a rich voice. Way to go.” Simon: “I don’t think that was your best performance. It was a bit disjointed. You’re lucky you’ve got two songs tonight.”

  6. Paris “Kiss” She admitted the song was a challenge. She also wanted to pay homage to Prince from where she grew up in Minneapolis. She wore cute ruffled dresses. She looks great tonight. She’s having fun and it’s not the train wreck we anticipated. She does a fine funky job. Randy: “Nice to see you having a little fun, showing that youth song. I thought it was nice. I liked it.” Paula: “The whole country knows you can sing your butt off. I love when you sing songs from the past eras.” Simon: “Screechy and annoying.” “I love all the opinions,” Paris said diplomatically. (“A born politician,” Ryan notes.)

  7. Paris “Be Without You” Her lower register sounds a little scratchy. It seems like she’s working this one too hard and the crowd isn’t getting into it as much as you’d think. It’s a good rendition, just not a showstopper. Makes me wonder how Fantasia would have blown the roof off of it. Randy: “Definitely taking a great risk. That’s Mary’s joint. Her vibe. All and all, a few pitchy things but you rocked it.” Paula: “You got it. I love your voice. I was hoping you’d do your own Paris flip on it.” SImon: “I think she did rather well with that.”:

  8. Chris Shinedown’s “I Dare You” This song is rather mediocre. This is one of the most obscure groups to ever be showcased on “Idol.” He seems to be straining a bit near the end to rock it. It was just okay. Randy: “It was just alright for me.” Paula: “The song wasn’t my favorite but I loved you.” SImon: “It was not a great song. And your voice is going Chris. It really felt it was going to give way halfway. Great first song. You’re going to be fine.” Chris then said, “That’s the fifth time I did that song today. We’re going all the time. I push it a little more than I should… I’ve got to pace myself.”

  9. Elliott “Home” I had qualms the minute I heard he was doing Michael Buble. This song is so dull. Can Elliott pep it up? He tries but man, I’m getting woozy. This song has no melody or hook. Does he want to go home? This might help. Elliott runs off and comes back and Paula snickers (scary!). Randy: “Seeing the tender side of you. That Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke thing. Nice choice baby, nice choice.” Paula: “We got to hear the richness of your voice. It can melt you.” Simon: “I’m not sure I would have chosen a lyric I want to go home tonight Elliott. Not the smartest lyric in the world. I’m worried abou that show, if it has enough of a hook.”

  10. Kat’s disaster of “Against All Odds.” She seems off from the start. She tries her breathy, sexy thing and it doesn’t work on this song. She is also wedged so tightly in that dress that no malfunction will happen. I don’t recall being blown away by George Huff’s take season three. Scott did okay last year. This was more in the lines of blah. That last note felt a little rough, too. Randy: ” You look amazing. I don’t know if the key was exactly right for you. It got okay at the end.” Paula: “You look stunning. Not my favorite performance for you.” Simon: “I got it completely wrong last year. This one was a mess. The song ran away from you. You have two songs. You’re a lucky girl.”

GO SOUL PATROL AND E-TRAIN!!! Hey!!!

I’m still fanning myself from Taylor’s first song. : ) As expected, I am still loving Taylor and Elliott. Paris did better than I expected. Chris, good but …yawwwnnn… Sorry, where was I? Kat sukked on the first song, but I thought she did great on the 2nd song. Here comes my T-Man, gotta go…

Elliot’s and Kat’s second songs were both great!!!
Chris’ screeching and yelling are wearing thin!!! Dessn’t he have a gig with some band where he can do all that for people who enjoy that form of entertainment? Like black finger nails and moshing and all that? Taylor is tired and needs to lay down AT HOME!!! Paris was alright, but not great!

I think Taylor or Chris should go home, but it will probably be Paris.

2ND SET 1 Kat….Mike you said she would nail this and she did…I liked it much better than the original. 2 Taylor..Lovely 3 Elliot. very pleasant but no energy 4 Chris…he’s tired and it shows 5 Paris…not for me.

I am new blogging here, can anyone tell me what the lines are for the performers. I did not like Kat’s first song and really do not care much for her. Did anyone see her pictures from last week? There is one where she had a really high slit up her leg and was showing much of what she was working with. She was trying to say “sex” will make it.

Carla I agree with you. I thought the three selected was better then I thought. Chris first song was alright but that second song hurted my ears. I’ve voted for Paris and Eliott. It’s something about Elliott voice, just so soothen.

Songluvr, we are on the same page! Taylor blew me away tonight! THUMP

I see some of y’all liked Kat’s second song, but I was so distracted trying to figure out why she was crawling around on her knees (plus the guys sitting on the boxes) that I didn’t know if she was singing or not.

A mixed bag this week. Some great performances and some Train wrecks.

  1. Taylor - Something — for me this was a magic moment. Just awesome. And even Simon said he can sing! I love happy endings LOL

  2. Chris - Renegade — Best Chris performance yet. It helps I love this song too. This was absolutely awesome. Great Job.

  3. Taylor - Play That Funky Music — Awesome vintage Taylor performance. I loved it — but I will give the fact that it was long on performance but not a tough vocal. Taylor fans loved it, others maybe not.

  4. Elliot - On Broadway — awesome awesome awesome. Wonderful performance. Best Elliot yet.

  5. Katherine - Black Horse and Cherry Tree — Very good. Redeemed the nightmare of the first performance. Perfect for her sultry voice —this is what she needs to sing all the time. Not sure how the floor dance will go over though.

  6. Paris - Kiss — She pulled this off. Cute, catchy, fun. I enjoyed it.

  7. Elliot - Home — Awesome vocal, but god could it have been any more boring. ZZZZZZZZZZ.

  8. Paris - Be Without You — not impressed at all. Did not like the song, the arrangement, and Paris sounded weird on it. Sorry Paris fans, this did nothing for me.

  9. Chris - I Dare You —- UGH. Chris I DARE YOU not to EVER EVER EVER sing this crapload again. Please. Screamed the entire song. Totally undid everything the first song accomplished.

  10. Katherine - Against All Odds —- Total complete utter train wreck. This was awful. No it was beyond awful. Off key, Horrible arrangement, lost the band. Just terrible.

Overall ranking — Taylor, Elliot, Chris, Paris, Katherine

Bottom 2 - Kat and Paris without a doubt. Katherine may be in deep deep trouble, she better hope her fans save her. I would vote Kat off after tonight—- BUT I think the #2 curse will continue and Paris will leave. May adjust this after I see the Dial Idol numbers

By Songluvr

Oops, I mean #3 was a 3-way tie. I wish there was an edit feature here.

LOL, Wanda, I think there’s probably alot of thudding and thumping going on all over the country for T-Man. There was one line early in ‘Something’, that I swear made me slide off the couch and onto the floor. ; ) Play it back, you’ll see the one I mean…

…fans self…

Taylor was the only one good on both songs. Chris Daughtry was great on Renegade, but lost me on the 2nd. Katherine was average. Paris was “ah-ight”. I’m ready for Elliot to go home… he wasn’t horrible, but I’m over it…

By Carla

May 2, 2006 09:26 PM | Link to this

I agree Sissy.

Mike you think that weird floor thing Kat did was better than Paris doing Kiss???? I’m still trying to figure out the dance Kat was attempting to do. She looked a hot mess.

Carla..gulfrien! We hangin…Taylor was pretty aight tonight..much better than weeks past. Chris rocked it…no surprise here. But I have to say…both Paris and Kat sucked up their performances. KISS was several octaves TOO low and Kat was just so off pitch that my cats ran from the room. What are we to do with the girls this year…obviously out of their league with the guys holding their own..

I thought Elliot’s version of Broadway was almost awful, I just dont see what all, you all see, I like him and he does some stuff good, Like I liked the second song better, but it does not matter, I have had the final two picked for some time!!!!

Taylor was smooth, better than chocolate!!!!!!!!

Carla - Katherines vocal on Black Horse was awesome — but notice I said “Not sure how the floor dance thing is going to go over”

Gotta agree with you Goofy. Kat’s first song was bad but Elliot made a complete and total mess out of On Broadway Off key…not with the band..arrangement sucked eggs. He and Kat are just about tied for the worst performances of the evening. Kat redeemed herself with Black Horse but Elliot, while his vocals were nice on Home, was just kinda boring.

Hey Dierdre! Babs here (long time, no blog). I agree 100% re Katharine - that was NOT on purpose last week and I don’t think she even realized what happened until way after the fact. I agree with all of your assessments above, with the exception of Chirs - “I Dare You” is a great song and I thought his version was awesome…I’m a rocker from way back! I’m pretty sure, however, a lot of the folks who vote on AI will not agree with me but with you. And I’m beginning to believe Taylor or Elliot could really take this whole thing - the crowd really cheered for both of them. Can’t wait for the vote-off!

this text will be bolded Wow !!! My man Elliot DELIVERED tonight!! I love…love…love him!!!! He rocked on both of his songs!! Go Elliot!! Paris did better than I thought she would on “Kiss” but her second song REEKED !! Katherine trashed her first song but did better on the second (never heard of her 2nd one though). Chris did good but I am tired of his yelling everything he sings. Taylor was awesome on his first song and really good on his second. LOVE TAYLOR !!

I think it should be either Paris or Katherine who heads home tomorrow.

I know Mike. I think I’ve fallen prey to all of the negative press surrounding Kat and I just don’t like her anymore. Therefore I can’t watch her performances and be subjective. I totally hated the first and I was trying to figure out what was going on with the second.

As for Paris, I think because I had such low expectations, the Kiss performance was great for me. She did a whole lot better than I expected. Without You was good. I’ve heard Mary do it live too and it’s a song you have to know and love to feel it.

All right. Everyone had a least one good performance tonight.

Chris - awesome first song, not so good second song (still the best)

Kat - sucky first song, awesome second song

Taylor - entertaining first song, above average second song

Paris - did a good job on first song, average on 2nd song

Elliot - above average first song, below average second song

I predict that Paris will go home tomorrow, although I wish it were Elliot.

I hate to agree with you American Mother, but I’m almost sure you are right. She’s not leaving because she can’t sing. She just doesn’t have the voters support that the others have. It will be sad to see her off the show, but it maybe a good chance for everyone to really see how good the remaining four really are. None of them impressed me tonite.

The ETrain had a wreck tonight and unfortunately Katherine was on it.

My rank for the night: Chris Taylor Paris Katherine Elliot

sorry Mike S, I am in agreement with Deirdre. I had never heard a version of On Broadway that I didn’t like until tonight. Home was much better. Scott Savol of all people sounded better with On Broadway and much better than Elliot

Here is how I rank the 10 songs

  1. Renegade Chris Stole the show

  2. Funky Music Taylor Not very good vocals but entertaining since he acting like an idiot.

  3. Kiss Paris Great Job Paris because of this you deserve to stay

  4. Home Elliot Excellent vocal but very boring

  5. Cherry Tree Excellent vocal the most god awful song I have ever heard and may have sent her home.

  6. Something Taylor His best vocal yet. However, it was so boring my wife and I were both watching our daughter play instead of watching him.

  7. I dare You Chris Great performance but tired voice. Gotta save something for primetime with the voice

  8. Mary J’s song Paris It was pretty good just didn’t connect with me

  9. Against all odds Kat Just ok as Simon would say

  10. On Broadway Elliot This was head and shoulders the worst performance of the night.

Kat or Elliot deserves to go home by the way Kat coming into the night was my second favorite.

OK: 1st comment this year (I wait for the top 5 to avoid commenting on the chattle):

I am amazed how well the Idol producers keep track of the Web blogs (like this one)! The talk this week: Taylor was ‘Lithgoed’ like Clay in AI season Two (Term to discribe bumping songs at the last minute for no good reason & making the contestent sing a crappy song ‘cause it’s easy for the band to play). They noted that he hasn’t gotten ANY production value except for the Sax Dude from Hell - no Daughtry lights or fog. And he’s the ONLY one still standing that hadn’t had the ‘Pimp Spot’ at the end of the show once this year, while Chris has had it TWICE. Even the choice by VFTW.com was to ‘…stick it to the man…” after last week’s Elliott-is-SO-wonderful garbage.

So, what happens this week?

Taylor gets the ‘Pimp Spot’. Taylor gets production values (although no fog, they DID have the disco lights going!) And… for the 1st time in FIVE YEARS, they get approval from the Beatles for a song. For Taylor. And he did what he does. Pure magic.

Notice there was no ‘sitdown’ with Ryan & Taylor? They had time to discuss Kat’s ‘Wardrobe Malfunction’, but didn’t take a chance that he might have a word or two for America before the 1st song.

Bottom line - Paris knew she was a goner b4 the show, so she let it hang out (notice the $hit lyric edited from her MJB song?), Kat’s Dad was restrained this time (cause he’s a Hollywood Producer doesn’t mean he can berate the judges in the break), Elliott got the usual ‘dont vote him off yet’ judgements, and Taylor just MIGHT get a good Elvis song next week.

Me, I’m waiting for ‘Georgia’ or - if they let him do an original song - ‘Soulthing’

Paris did NOT say s*. Does anyone really think she would curse on national TV? I now a lot of people hate her, but geez. That’s reaching. She got the #2 spot and the bleep because TPTB want her gone. Sadly, they will get their wish. I’m almost glad, though. That way, nobody can play the race card and say she stayed because of Affirmative Action.

I think Paris did well tonight. If we are all really honest, she did much better than Katherine and Taylor. I think its her age that most of you don’t like. She will be a star and will do very well. I have gotten through on Paris at least 12 times and I am still dialing. I think that this year’s Idols are no match for last year’s or the year Fantasia, Ruben or Kelly won. When the judges say this is the best year ever, they are oh so wrong. I liked Bo better last year. I think Chris will win this year simply because he fits the Idol in voice, looks and style. Everyone else is a strong possibility for second. It’s a toss up. That’s just how average they all are. No one has given that WOW performance like Fantasia’s Summertime.

By Songluvr

Brownthrasher, my disagreement with you is very nearly complete. Paris did well, but if I’m being honest, nobody touched Taylor. IMHO. Plus, I loved Fantasia too. Other than that,…

Songluvr, I liked Taylor’s Beatles song. The Funky White Boy could have stayed back in 1976. But the point is, nobody did both songs well. So its a toss up as to who will be voted off. Still Paris is in the minority by age only. I think once she is booted off, she will have her pick of record deals. SHe is the one consistent contestant who the guess judges all had high praise for.

By kim

Vin, you can rest with the ebonics…trying too hard. Not funny. (Borderline insulting.) Just a tip.

About the show… I agree about Katharine doing bad on the first, and better on the second. Actually, the second song was cool, but I agree that the floor dance was out there. I think she was trying to do a “Summertime” thing, and it so wasn’t happening. It kept looking like she was about to get up, but kept forgetting, or couldn’t make up her mind. My vote is for her to go home, she’s just not “connecting” with me (as they say). She does have this haughty thing going that’s I’m not feeling. And when the judges would dare criticize her, she has this look “I’m above this…yadda, yadda. I’m not really listening.”

Elliott’s vocals were good as usual, but just not great like last week. I still think he’s maybe the 1st/2nd best pure talent. But I must admit that the second song didn’t do much for him and the power of his vocals. And the “Home” song was such a negative affirmation (I have to agree with Simon.)

Paris did good on both songs…we all have to admit. And if you know and like the Mary J. Blige song in the first place, you have to give credit that she did great with that song…even Simon complimented her. It seems that Paris is always climbing an uphill battle with folks TRYING to find something to criticize about her…But the truth is, “You got nothing.” She is a truly phenomenal talent…young-ness and all.

Overall, it seemed that most of the contestants tonight had this laissez-faire attitude…like they were just going to do their thing…try it out, loosen their collar and flip caution to the wind…Let the chips fall where they may. More power to them! They get criticized either way…So be true to you.

The worse this week was KAT!! you know that is the truth.Chris is getting stale, the same old thing from him every week.

justme, I ask that same question of the people who assume that when Paris stays each week, it’s because AI doesn’t want an all white final 6, or 5, or because they think black people will riot or something. It seems that some like to play the race card, rather than admit that she does deserve to be there.

I know everyone has their favorites, so I don’t assume that people who just don’t like Paris are racist, because it seems that most of them ARE willing to admit that she is talented; she just isn’t their cup of tea.

By Mitch

May 2, 2006 11:23 PM | Link to this

I have seen negative comments on here about but Paris but also every contestant on the show. When Bucky & Kellie were on the show it was perfectly OK for the redneck & trailer park references but if someone even hinted they didn’t like Paris, they were automatically labled a racist.

I know racial prejudice still exist but for God sake please quit throwing them in where they don’t belong.

Well, there are a lot of Paris haters out there. As I said before, whether she goes or stays, the young lady has a great singing voice. Put her acapella against the rest of the best and she would rise to the top. I’m proud of her no matter where she finishes. As for that dialidol - it can only track the calls that go through the web who have downloaded it on their computers. I for one have not downloaded it and never will. I’ll rely on the fairness of “all” of America’s people and not some of these bloggers. What God has for Paris will be for Paris. Good night all. The truth will be told tomorrow.

Rodney i haven’t had a chance to scan and see if anyone has answered you but the term simon used was “Barminess”…. “barmy” is a brit term, but at this moment i cannot remember exactly what, …. wait, i googled it…

barm·y Pronunciation (bärm) adj. barm·i·er, barm·i·est 1. Full of barm; foamy. 2. Eccentric; daft.

and from the thesaurus

Adj. 1. barmy - marked by spirited enjoyment yeasty, zestful, zesty spirited - displaying animation, vigor, or liveliness 2. barmybarmy - informal or slang terms for mentally irregular; “it used to drive my husband balmy” around the bend, balmy, bats, batty, bonkers, buggy, crackers, daft, dotty, haywire, kookie, kooky, loco, loony, loopy, nuts, round the bend, wacky, whacky, nutty, fruity, cracked insane - afflicted with or characteristic of mental derangement; “was declared insane”; “insane laughter”

so in a way, it fits, lol

I watched Nashville Star twice. This was the first season I watched any of it. I think there were 6 contestants to perform the first time I saw it and 5 contestants the second time. I don’t know much about Country music talent, but as soon as I hear Chris sing his original song, and saw how the crowd reacted to him, I knew he was going to win it.

By alan

May 2, 2006 11:36 PM | Link to this

Ok as a Chris fan I have to stand up for him. How can you say Chris sounds the same every week? For you Taylor and Elliot fans especially. Elliot has sounded exactly the same singing the exact same style music every single week and he has never been called out on it. Taylor until tonight had butchered every single song he slowed down and just sang. The vocals in Funky Music were actually really bad if you actually listen and not watch the moron. However, Something was magnifcient. Chris is the only one in the top 5 that has showed he can sing different genres of music and be good. Remember he successfully has sang pop love songs, country, pop rock, hard rock and just plain metal. Elliot has sang R&B every single time he has been good. If he doesn’t act like a fool nobody likes his vocals until tonight and he had to put a bluesy feel to that song.

Just standing up for my man.

sigh

some things you just cannot argue about… because the argument never ends…

you’re welcome RH … my sister lived in england for a while, it was one of the words she “picked up” … along with “bloody” and “bloke” lol

I saw some good in all the contestants tonight… and some not-so-good. I didn’t think Kat was all that bad on the first song, tho i wish she’d picked something else… what i DID like about it was she did NOT try to sing like the original, she put her own sound to it, and it really wasn’t all that bad, imho…

i felt that Chris was head and shoulders above everyone else, and i LOVED how he started the current number, low key, deep chested and understated…then cut loose…

i enjoyed Paris having fun with the Prince “Kiss”… not so happy with the MJB number, just didn’t feel it fit her well enough…

I enjoyed Kat’s current number, but felt she needed a little more seasoning with the performance

Taylor, well…. Taylor was Taylor, that’s why he has such a strong fan base, and tho’ i do NOT think by any stretch of the imagination he’s the best singer, he IS a performer who connects with an audience, and thus, is AI-positive.

Chris’ audience is a bit more specialized, but he’s awfully good, and if he carries on with some of the advice from last week about deeper breathing and reaching to the diaphram to sing, he’ll only be better and better— i expect to hear him on the radio

in their OWN genres, i could expect to hear any of these five succeed … they each have talent and they each have potential, and they ALL have room for growth…

AI is just the beginning for all of them, i think. God knows, they are CERTAINLY better than the likes of Britney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

love ya, gang…off to the showers, braves won, hubby cooked a great meal, and now lil ol’ linny has gotta prepare for the ‘morrow…

Having fun is one thing, but you were way out the box today…showing your behind…and your true colours are apparently showing now. Simmer down. Too much wannabe-ism.

Now go to bed lil’ girl…friend. But you still won’t grow some real soul by the morning.

About Idol…shout out to Paris. If she goes home tomorrow, she was robbed…but will do great either way.

Dialidol has it right. The guys did well, and the girls…

Paris would have been okay if she had chosen a different song than Kiss. When she came out for her second song, I was very nervous for her, but she did well. The 1st song lost it for her though. It’s a shame too.

Kat was trying to solicit votes with sex appeal tonight, and it didn’t work.

The guys did a good job, and should be safe.

Gnight Brownthrasher. Here’s hoping we get a nice present tomorrow and Paris survives for another week. She is not my favorite, but she did her thing tonight. Kat has a fabulous voice , as Black Horse showed, but she is the one who crashed and burned the worst tonight, and as such she should be the one going home.

ANYWAY…back to American Idol. I am on the E-TRAIN. I just love his voice and think he is a genuinely wonderful person. Did anyone notice how he started hugging Paris? Everyone was posing and he started hugging Paris and then went around to all the other contestants. I just love his sweet spirit.

I think Elliott has the best voice of the remaining idols. The song selections weren’t that good although I love hearing him sing. I feel he’ll be in the bottom 2 but here’s hoping he stays. I just can’t get into the songs that Chris sings their just not for me. Kat and Paris are okay, who can’t help but like Taylor not a great voice but so entertaining. For some reason I have not been able to really get into American Idol this year. I believe the contestants last year as a whole were more entertaining than this years contestants.

Paris is going home. Its not because she’s black, its because she looks like she’s 11 years old and she’s better suited for a limbo competition. Shorty needs to wake up and realize American Idol isn’t the Atlanta-metro talent show.

Chris was awful, all that screaming gave me a headache. Taylor was awful too. Simon had it correct, that was like a bad wedding reception song… Paris was really good to me, why the bleep? She didnt curse. Elliott held his own…. Goodbye Chris, take that screaming hoarse voice back to where ever you are from.

Elliott said he has chewed his nails since he was a baby and maybe that is why his teeth are so crooked. His voice is OK, but he lacks confidence. Chris was good on the first song, but killed himself with the screeching. Paris can sing, but doesn’t have the charisma with the audience, she needs to grow up some more. Taylor would make a great Blues Brother, give him a hat and sunglasses and a comedy movie role. Kat has my vote, even though she was singing in the wrong key on the first song, she was awesome in her second.

THey di d not BLEEP Paris. They were having audio difficulties. I went back and watched it again — the sound dropped out during the opening, it dropped again during Elliot’s opening video, and then it dropped again during Paris performance.

No conspiracy, no censuring, no bleeping. It happened three times in the first 15 minutes of the show.

Dial Idol has Katharine and Paris in the bottom two this morning. I really wouldn’t be surprised if Katharine gets the boot — not because of her singing, but because of her father’s antics last week. He crossed a line.

After going back and rewatching last nights performances, I started thinking about each performers strengthsa and weaknesses and who benefits from two songs a night and who doesn’t.

Taylor - I think he benefits the most from 2 performances. His forte is entertainment, and with 2 performances he is sure to entertain on at least one of them. I really think 2 performances a night will put him in the finals.

Chris - He should make the finals, but last night showed a problem he faces — someone on this board PREDICTED this over a month ago (I think it was Mitch), they said because Chris sings from his throat that his voice would give out. That is his biggest worry and hurdle — His voice. He should win this hands down to be honest (Even though I like Tay and E better) if his voice continues to degrade he may not even make the final.

Elliot - Gets to showcase his voice, but it also shows his limitations glaringly — and that is he is just not seasoned enough as an entertainer. I love Elliot, but he even put me to sleep last night with “Home”

Katherine - 2 songs is terrible for her — it brings her maddening inconsistancy right to the front. The girl has a fantastic voice, but she is up and down. Amazing one week, terrible the next. Now we get to see that in one night.

Paris - P is probably the most consistant pure singer in the competition, but 2 songs just shows that she is just not quite ready to burst out. Paris will be a superstar, but that will be in 3-5 years, right now she is just a sweet kid with an awesome voice.

I wonder why is my opinion on Eliot is so much different than everyone else’s? I haven’t liked his vioce from the beginning, mostly because of his vibrato - it drives me crazy! So I hated his performance of On Broadway but actually loved the tone of his voice on Home when he tamed that vibrato quite a bit. I thought the song was pretty, not boring. My favorite performance from him all season. Oh well.

Gotta give it to Paris - she rocked “Kiss.” Didn’t care for her second number.

Elliott’s first song was bad. He redeemed himself with the second one.

Kat’s first song was AWFUL. And the second one? Humping the stage while two homeless men pound on their cardboard houses? I didn’t get it.

Taylor had a blast doing “White Boy.” It was like a big “kiss my butt” to the producers. I am sure his fans were glad to see him back.

With “Renegade” Chris proved once again that he is his own league. The race for seond place continues.

Mornin’ y’all!

Ok Rodney and all who do not know what “Balminess” is: It is an old (British) term derived from the word “balmy” meaning a bit airheaded. Your spelling may have thrown some people off. Now for my favorite pics: 1. Chris 2. Taylor 3. Elliot 4. Kat 5. Paris This was an awesome night. This is the BEST group of singers IDOL has ever had. Hard to pick the winner!!!

Morning everyone. So, last night’s performances showed alot of things. We saw everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. So who goes home. The young lady with the powerful voice but not quite enough years under her belt or the inconsistent girl who can sing but cracks when she has to hit a high note. Hummmm. I guess the results will tell tonight. Based on overall performances, I would have to vote Kat out but even if Paris survives this week, she is toast next Tuesday anyway. So with that being said, I am looking for the top 3 to be all men this year, with Taylor and Chris in the finale. Unless all of Paris and Kat’s votes go to Elliott. Then we may have a Elliott/Chris showdown.

Good morning fellow bloggers. Well, last night was certainly a roller coaster ride, wasn’t it? I think the clear winner for the night was Taylor. He did a very good job with both his songs which is almost impossible to say for the rest of them. Kat failed miserably at Against All Odds but was amazing on Black Horse and Cherry Tree( I heard this song for the first time after Kat picked it….didn’t like it until last night) I don’t know what that floor thing was but it didn’t affect her voice. Chris was amazing on Renegade…best performance of the night, if you ask me, but faltered on his second song. Paris was vocally fine on both her songs but she’s lost all her life and energy. Again, Paula made the comment, we want to see the real Paris (do you suppose she reads this blog) Now on Elliot…I agree with everyone else that Home was nice but boring. I hated On Broadway, but y’all have been so enthusiastic about it that I watched it a couple more times to see what I missed. Sorry guys, and at the risk of getting drummed out of the blawgpound…I still hated it. The arrangement was awful. He started out very weak and never seemed to gain his footing, he had sour notes and at times, the band members looked at him as if they weren’t sure where he was. If it was just me voting, I’d put Elliot on the bottom with Kat.

Morning all. So the numbers on dialidol are the same as they were last night. Well I guess us Paris fans just have to hold out hope we get a repeat of last week. Hopefully the margin of error will send Kat back to her crying, too good to follow the rules father and save Paris another week.

Mike, if you’re going to pull the race card, it must be for the 24. Let’s go Jeff! Let’s go Hendricks drivers! Three in the top 10!

explanation of the London slang Simon used ‘balminess’… American translation? Rowdy! Taylor rocked my soul last night on both songs.Ryan said Taylor’s “Something” choice was from an album on the top 40?So where is the cheat? Also have to say there is truth to Simon being biased-he just can’t see himself signing Taylor to a record deal.He does have that invested interest.Screw his pompous Enlish ARS! Got to say too, Taylor has rekindled something in my 60’s rythmn gene.I’m rocking out at 54! Go Soul Patrol!!

Good Mornin’ BLAWGPOUND!!!!

I was hopin’ last week that Taylor would do ‘Play That Funky Music’ and thought he would rock the house…..well he did rock it, but I gotta say I was a tad disappointed……seemed he screamed a good bit of it or oversang and the song didn’t come off as being funky enough to me….he needs to remember to have fun and to NOT oversing….

Chris was OK on his 1st tune even though the judges said he was great they must’ve had clogged ears as Chris sounded ‘pitchy’ to me, as did Kat on her 1st tune…..Kat improved on the second while Chris got worse.

Ellot and Paris were close to average but I did like Paris in ‘Kiss’…..

Wassup with the gurls in this competition? They don’t seem to be bringin’ it!

PS to Carla…you win girl….even though 24 faded I gotta give my props to that sissy Pepsi drinker, he finished in front of the 8….. :-(

In response to S, You obvioulsy are not in tuun with the R&B would, Fantasia has been busy, on tour, working on a second album, making appearences. Are her much support from her people. Oh, yeah she is also featured on other artists songs. Turn to BET sometimes, or VH1 Soul. Do you need more? And yes she did have the church behind her, and prayers and that same faith that her supports had is the same support Paris has, and is why she is still on ht e show, and has made it this far. Oh, and one more thing Fantasia has enough money to not do anything else, if thats what she chooses. And she has accomplished this while being a single parent.

Here are the final Dial Idol numbers and my analysis.

DIAL IDOL SCORE. (First number is the score, second is Margin of error) The lead number is the DI predicted finish.

1 Taylor Hicks 33.232 1.626

2-4 (B3) Chris Daughtry 27.774 1.692

2-4 (B3) Elliott Yamin 27.643 1.693

2-5 (B3) Katharine McPhee 24.583 1.729

4-5 (B3) Paris Bennett 23.375 1.742

DIAL IDOL busy percentages

Taylor Hicks 78.122

Taylor Hicks #2 74.482

Chris Daughtry 65.441

Elliott Yamin 63.181

Elliott Yamin #2 62.731

Chris Daughtry #2 59.026

Paris Bennett 54.438

Katharine McPhee 53.987

Katharine McPhee #2 48.126

Paris Bennett #2 47.273

THese numbers pretty clearly show that Paris and Katherine are the bottom 2. Based on Margin of ERROR it is possible that Kat could be above Chris or Elliot, But unlikely. The only sure things are Paris on the stage, and Taylor in first by a wide margin.

NOW while it shows Paris in the bottom 2 no matter what, it shows that Kat and Paris are very very close.

It is probably Paris going home, but I can no longer say it with 100% certainty.

Good morning everyone. It was definately a different night on AI last night. I am anxiously awaiting the 1st release of the new Nashville Star Chris Young.

As far as AI. Had it’s moments last night. Some were good and some not so good. I am just hoping that Kat breaks the #2 curse.

I did hear on the radio this AM that AI is got to start making the performances available for download both tracks & videos. They didn’t say which service would have them or when it would start.

Nashville Star had this capability all season and I made good use of it. It definately gives you a better idea of what they will sound like on your stereo or iPod or whatever you listen to your music on.

OK I have to have some fun and Channel JIM J this morning. Here is my prediction of how the final conversation may go tonight.

Ryan : So judges, here are you bottom 2 Paris Bennett and Katherine Mcphee. Simon, did America get it right this week/ and who is leaving us?

Simon : RYan, I think they got it right. As for who is leaving this week, if people voted based on just last night, then Katherine is leaving us. Her first performance last night was absolutely hideous. However, I think her second performance was quite good, and I think America votes on the full season and not just one night. When you look at the entire season, Paris has probably been the most consistant, but Katherine is the one who has had the better performances, and I think people vote for “great” and not for consistent mediocrity. SO, I think it is actually Paris going home and not Katherine.

RYan : and the person with the lowest total of votes. Leaving us tonight, Simon Cowell.

Taylor..my soul man..lol..i wasent in a emotional uplift last night..but when Taylor started dancing spinning..i just started smiling from ear to ear. he is so damn funny crazy and fun. the dance moves made me wanna jump up and dance crazy heh heh..he was the most entertaining of the night. chris..if he continues abuse his voice..at the end of AI..he wont have one. Elliot..nice..but a note to Elliot and others..”On Broadway” was Covered by George Benson in 1978, he is not the original artist.the original artist were The Drifters and the song came out in 1963. Benson just breathed new life into an old song and made it his, but he wasent the original. It was just ok for me.I still like the Original by the Drifters. Katherine..hmm seemed lost. Paris.seems like she was holding back. As I stated before, she hasent quite found herself yet. I believe Fantasia would have blown the roof off with that song. Who is going home..Kat. or Paris.

And wait… Perish herself stated that she was singing Prince’s “Kiss.” That song came out 2 years before she was born… if she is going to leverage the technicality that it was re-done by someone two years later, then she should state that she is singing their version…

And why did Simon have to “rub it in” when he “clarified” his statement about it not being her best performance… I think that the context was pretty clear at that point…

I am not sure we have heard Taylor’s best yet. They seem to have tried to rein him in a bit, just judging from the free spirit he was during auditions. That was part of his charm—the no-holes-barred delivery and, yes, the annoying tics, too. Last night, at least, he seemed to be saying “ok, I tried it your way, now I am going to be me.” Just a thought.

Paris is going home but it isn’t because she lacks talent. It’s because she’s a kid. The judges continuously rag about her song choices. She can sing anything but she is just a kid so you get a song and not the drama that comes with it! Now, down to business. Can we eliminate Simon? I am tired of his hissy sissy comments, and his attempts to influence the audience. He’s such an obnoxious sissy!

Girlgirl - you are exactly right, and said it so simply. A lot of us have said the same thing, but we have been so wordy in doing it that the meaning has gotten lost sometimes.

Paris only problem is her age. She is not old enough to “feel” the music and convey it in a performance. Instead she has to basically regurgitate the original, and as a result we never get to see Paris.

The key everyone needs to remember though — the reason we don’t see Paris is because Paris does not exist yet. Once Paris grows, and yes hurts, then she will move to a whole new level where she becomes the song or rather the song becomes her. ONce she reaches the point (I say 5 years) where she can truly take a song and make it a PARIS SONG — she will be a superstar like no other Idol has yet to become.

LOL — and there is the wordy response. LOL

Good Morning Everyone! I LUVS me some Taylor! OMG! Like I’ve said before, his voice isn’t the best, but what a performer!

Chris and Elliott were okay. I’m sick of Kat trying to ‘sex appeal’ everyone to death. And I thought Paris was pretty bad. She’ll be going home tonight.

I feel like I keep repeating myself every week about my boy chris. He is the man!!! Even though his 2 song he struggled vocally, singing those rock songs can be hard on the voice. Chris is the only one though I think will have successful record sales! Paris, marry J Blige, song was actually pretty good. Katherines hot, but she look like she was dry humping the floor on here second song, elliot is just average, and taylor is good and I enjoy watching him sing with his corky dances, but I think he looks special ed. Elliot going home!! Does Elliot look like that alien guy Alf from the 80’s?!

Mike you are right. I won’t be mad if she goes home tonight. She does need time to grow. I felt the same thing with Diana DeGarmo. Just really haven’t experienced life enough to put their own emotion and feeling in a song. I think that’s how Fantasia was able to win that year. Yes, she was young but had already been through so much and you could hear the pain and feel the emotion in every single song she did. Paris will be o.k. everyone. Trust me!! We have not heard the last of her.

Did I mention that Chris was fine as I don’t know what. I love that boy. Now if I could get Elliott’s voice on Chris’ body with Taylor’s charisma, I would have one hell of a man!!

Anyone else having a hard time picking a clear favorite? Not just tonight, but overall.

I love Taylor, when he really gets into the music I feel it too. I really wanted to dance with Play that Funky Music and Something literally gave me chills.

I like Chris. I can hear him on the radio now. He will have a great career. Renegade was awesome, I Dare You was still good despite him blowing out his voice. I think with some voice lessons he will be excellent. Last week he really delivered when he sang from the diaphram, not the throat. Too bad that lesson didn’t carry over from last week.

I think Paris is truly amazing! I am sad that she has not developed a huge fan base because she is probably the best talent of the group.

Kat has great potential too. I imagine she could do well on the charts with the right songs. She needs some serious fashion advice and needs to stop breaking out in a smile during the serious songs.

Elliott - likeable guy with a solid voice, but I’m not seeing him on the top 40 charts.

Unlike previous years, I actually like all of the top 5 in personality and talent. I am not looking forward to seeing anyone leave tonight, but I am actually thinking it’s Elliott’s turn. I hope Paris makes it to the top three, but I’m not holding my breath. If the judges decided this, I think she could win, but America isn’t biting.

I guess now it has come down to everyone’s favorites. I’ve always like Kat, but she was never one of my favs. I guess because of that I thought she did bad last night, while those of you who like her think she did well on her second song. I have to be fair because I really didn’t hear the song because I was trying so hard to figure out WTF was really going on.:-) The same can be said for Paris. She’s been one of my favs, but I thought she did an overall better job than Kat. But I did have my expectations set very low.

By Mike S

YO - on the sirface I think you are right about it being a battle for second. BUT, I am worried about Chris’ voice and song choice.

Should he win based on overall season performance, yes. But, I don’t have a warm fuzzy thathe is going to be able to keep his voice all the way through the final.

I knew he struggled with the second song and screamed it, but when I went back and watched it a second time I caught exactly what Simon heard. Not once, but 3-4 times Chris voice cracked ever so slightly. He was within a breath of breaking it throughout the final 45 seconds of the song.

Face up to it people, Kat has a great voice, yes the first one was not the best but the other idols on other shows didn’t always do every song perfect. Chris is yelling and every song sounds the same, he needs to be in a concert hall performing rock only,Taylor needs to be on a cruise ship, Elliott has a good voice on some songs, Paris is a young entertainer but don’t think she will win. We will just have to wait and see.

By Jex

I think the problem with Elliott’s *On Broadway” was the arrangement. His voice was good, but the runs and vibrattos(sp?) they put in made it sound weird.

cons of Kat leaving

  1. no more pups.
  2. no more suspense relating to pups. and number 3?

you guessed it….

pros of Kat leaving

  1. Not getting anxious about missing AI.
  2. Not having to wipe slobber from shirt afterwards.
  3. Not having to perform evasive recliner maneuvers (while in a stupor) in an attempt to dodge flying projectiles hurled in my direction by my better half…..

greg - I guess I can be “capital G” and you can be “little g”! lol

Out of the 5 left, I think Chris will have the biggest and longest career. The rumor was going around that he may be the next lead singer for Fuel but I don’t buy it. I don’t think he needs to win.

Taylor will probably win unless he really stumbles and I would love that. If he does, I hope the producers will get him some decent songs to record, unlike the past winners. I like him way to much to see him put out a bland CD that sells a few million copies just because of the AI popularlity and then nothing happens for him after the next season starts. Kelly Clarkson didn’t blossom until she got out from under the AI machine.

With the right songs, Kat could have a decent career - she certainly has the looks. Paris has a great voice but as everyone pointed out needs more “seasoning”; she’ll get there eventually, especially with her family’s music business connections. Eliot is likeable enough but not very marketable unfortunately. He probably needs the win more than the others to have any shot at selling records.

Just my 2 cents….

Chris has just left me cold…he is Johnny One Note. Yeah, Renegade was good…but what else can he do? Can you imagine Neil Young’s career if he only did hard rock “Crazy Horse” stuff? or if he only did acoustic “Needle and the damage done” material? He gives me a headache too! Paris reminded me of Fantasia last night (and that is NOT a good thing!) Tivo got the fast forward work out after her songs started. Elliott totally won me over last night. I have not liked him much at all this year and now he is in my top 3. Kat is a dream girl….After Kelly and Carrie, I don’t think another white female has a chance but last night, her second song was AMAZING. And the Phil Collins song wasn’t the disaster everyone makes it out to be. Was better than Paris’ Mary J Blige screecher. then there is Taylor…the AI winner. We could have just avoided the entire season and given him the title of AI after the Hollywood week!

You all have been going since last night, and I know I’m late. I had to catch “The Unit” though, so I couldn’t partcipate last night. Here is my opinion of the show. I LOVE Elliott, but he was a snoozer last night. I loved “On Broadway,” but on that other tune, I had to leave before I nodded off. Chris was the bomb!!!! I think he did a excellent job last night. I was still not feeling Paris with “Kiss.” I still think it was inappropriate. She did very well on the Mary J though. Kat was all over the place with “Against All Odds.” I was not feeling it at all. She did really good with the second number though. The best overall last night though was Taylor. I hate to say it, but he got down last night.

Good morning peeps. Last nights show was horrible with one exception, Taylor. I loved “Play That Funky Music” and his second choice. The rest were absolutely forgettable. I just don’t get the song choices this year. Why, why, why did Paris pick the songs she chose? She could have picked many songs from 1988 to show her vocal range and she picked my least favorite Prince song. I just couldn’t believe it when she picked Mary J. for her second song and didn’t do it justice. If she goes home tonight I want be mad because she should have chosen better songs. Katherine was screechy and hideous on Against All Odds and the second song I never heard before. Elliott was just ok, but it’s too late in the game to be ok. Chris is killing his voice and I think he knows that, so enough said. This year’s final 5 are showing that they are not as talented as I originally assumed.

DOn’t know what the disconnect is Deirdre, guess it is just personal taste or something. I like “On Broadway” even more the second time I watched it. I am wondering if it may be the vibrato? Vibrato is something you either like or hate, and it can break a great song if you don’t care for it.

BTW, After rewatching — CHRIS MUST DO A FULL VERSION OF RENEGADE. I am a huge Styx fan, and he absolute owned that song last night.

Also, After listening to just the audio of Play That Funky Music — Taylor nailed that song. It actually sounds better listening to it, I guess because the dancing gets in the way a little when you watch it. But, that said, the dancing made the performance. LOL go figure. I like the vocal part better when I just listen to it, but I like the whole performance even better than that.

Yo Daddy. She got two BDay cards this morning, and tonight I am taking her to Red Lobster for dinner and will slip a little present in then (Saphire necklace from Zales). Major brownie points for me tonight :-)

Yo Daddy and Deidre I just watched on Broadway again as well and sorry to all the ETrain riders it was really bad. I am a Chris fan and can admit that he was off on I dare you why can’t you all admit the same for Elliot?

Also have all of you noticed but there has been so many different opinions of all of the songs this week. Probably the most differing opinions I have ever seen on the board.

Yep, Mike, we completely agree on Renegade. I thought it was the best performance of the night even though I would rank Taylor as number one last night. I don’t think it’s the vibrato….I usually don’t mind that. Different ears I guess…I’m just glad to know I’m not alone in the opinion. I have to commend you on Kat’s second song. When I first heard the KT version, I didn’t see how it could be a good vehicle for Kat. I thought she nailed it. Perhaps if she’d sat on a chair between the two drummers, it might have been less distracting.

Why is it that everyone is hateing on Paris . I don,t like Taylor I mean I do like him but he,s not that good Kat has a beautiful voice but there is something about her that I don,t like and I would not vote for her .The way I see it it,s Chris show everyone keeps saying that he sings every song the same way I wonder why every great singer has their own style of singing and I cant wait to see Chris doing is thing for years to come.I think it should be Chris Paris and who ever else AIis a great show of talent anyone who thinks they have it can get up there and be judged as we all know it takes more than talent Kat.

I only saw the second performances of Chris and Kat last night, so I can’t comment on the show. However, I am a Paris fan, but I think that she will be going home tonight because her fan base is smaller than the other contestants. If Paris and McPhee are in the bottom two tonight, I will be rooting for Paris to hang in for two reasons. One, I think that Paris is a better performer (not singer) than Kat, but don’t get it twisted, Paris CAN sing (I really wish she would have done one Anita Baker song during her time on the show). Two, the blog tomorrow will be “must see” reading!!

Ya’ll blog nice now, ya’ hear!!

People who think that Taylor was good you need to get your heads out of Star 94’s butt and listen to other radio stations. Paris sucked. They said she held her own on the mary J song. No she didn’t. They should have bashed her like they did kat last week. Chris’s voice is going? Have any of you people ever seen a shinedown concert where the guy plays that song? I thought not. All the taylor fans are caught up in his stage ACT and forget about his singing. Thats the only reason I could think why his old a* is still here. The guy has no range. He is trapped in the 50s and 60s and can’t get out. Soull patrollll, yeah we got it.

Out of all of the Top 10 songs too choose from the contestants made very poor choices. All of them. What is the deal with them not being able to pick modern music that can connect with the audience? This is when I would really like to be able to see the song list that they have to choose from.

By Mike S

Idol Watcher - THere were a couple reporters in the audience, and when the Judges ripped Kat apart, her dad walked over and “confronted” them during the break. Simon and Randy got away, but he got ahold of Paula and complained about what they said. The reporters were sitting behind Paris’ family and asked them about it, and Ann nesby said they had been told they were not allowed to have any contact with the judges what-so-ever.

Kat did awful last night, but I still love her and she’s going to be great, whether or not she wins. Daughtry! I love rock and roll, but I’m just tired of the rocker thing he’s got going, plus his voice was strained the entire 2nd performance. Just awful. Honestly, I wasn’t really impressed with anyone’s vocals last night. They’ve all got talent, but they just didn’t perform like a top 5 should perform. Let’s just hope next week, the final four bring it.

Thanks for the explanation, Mike. Sounds like the man needs to get ahold of his emotions. We all love our kids to death and take issue when someone disses them, but manage to show some restraint when it’s appropriate. Hope it doesn’t hurt Kat’s chances. That would be a shame because she does have talent, though I don’t think she will win this competition.

I would dare say “Renegade” was the best performance of this season. God I’m old - I remember rocking out to Styx. Picture it - Statesboro; early 80’s; Yo Daddy stoned and hanging with the rednecks; 3 for a dollar hot dogs at the Time Saver; we used to party where Paulson Stadium is now.

Jeff, I don’t think it is a race thing. She has just not connected with America. Like I said on another blog, IF it were a race factor and every black in America voted for her, then she would win hand down. Do you know how many votes that would be? But, she has not connected with the black or white folk. She can sing, but she is too young right now for this competition. She will do fine in the years to come. Of course we are going to expect the comments tomorrow morning to be somewhat different than when Pickler, Bucky, Ace etc was voted off, but we will get through it as we always do. If Paris leaves, there will be a lot of iggiting tomorrow.

The only reason you are all saying that Paris and Kat will be in the bottom 2 is because you have been on dialidol.com and saw their results!!!

Gee, cindypoo let me look. the phrase YOU ARE ALL is an inclusive phrase which indicates the post was made to every person on the blog. Ergo the poster (that would be you love) is talking to everybody on the blog — meaning by definition that anyone on the board is entitled to answer the bloggers claim.

Now, let’s continue with our analysis of this phrase. The assertion of the poster is that the only reason people are saying that Kat and Paris are the final two is because Dial Idol has them there.

But, a little research shows that the poster’s hypothesis is incorrect as numerous other bloggers posted that Kat and Paris were the bottom 2 before the Dial Idol numbers were even posted.

In conclusion, the research shows that the poster (Cynthia) posted an inclusive message that by its nature could be answered by any person on the blog since it was not directed at any one person (furthur research shows that there is no poster named “You all are”), and it also shows that the poster’s (cynthia) assertion was incorrect.

Furthur research shows that the poster also became incensed when this error was pointed out, thus bringing into focus thier apparent inability to handle critisism, and it also shows a possibility of anger management issues. However, those issues along with the poster’s apparent inability to accept reality (Bucky is no longer on the show) will have to be a subject of future posts as it would be inappropriate for the researchers to make a conclusion based on a handful of posts as one must consider what type of stress or influence the poster may be under at the time of the posting.

Hey Jeff, if you remember I told you that there will be an outcry of the racism card….you all know I love my Paris and I can understand some of the criticism (just some) but my previous email (last week) gave the race reasons…while I in NO way support any racial doings the AI marketing and sales people know if they allow paris to be voted off it would be a disaster in the fact that the have to reach all of us. I think I worded this right…I’m tired!

Elliott scared me for a moment with those first notes of “On Broadway”..he’s my fave by far but I need him to step up with some energy. He seems like a cool dude to me but I think his nerves still get the best of him. Paris, love you but I think you’ll be home soon. (If you are, call me, we’re having a BBQ at the house on Saturday) My take on the others…. Chris..YAWN. Great voice but everything sounds the same to me, just not my type of music. Kat…AWFUL..roller coaster ride from hell, too many flats and sharps, You’re killin me!! What happened??? Taylor…STRANGE BUT FUN..Like his energy and confidence. Good voice. I would pay to see him live, he’s better visually than vocally.

I was a little confused about the second song selection? Can anyone tell me what it was…I understand the 1st was from the year of their birth but the 2nd???? Anywho… I really did like Taylor 2 thumbs up. Chris he sounds like all of the other rockers. Paris, she really disappointed me. She has an amazing voice (to me) but she didn’t sing the right songs. Kat, I don’t care for her. Yes she butchered the first song..didn’t hear the last song???? Question? Why is it that she only sings slower songs.. she doesn’t really show any versitility, she’s quite boring. Elliott sounded good as usually, didn’t enjoy the 2nd song also thought it was boring. I agree with one the of earlier bloggers— need to pep it up and and he needs to slow down when he sings. My pick for the bottom three (in no particular order) Kat, Chris and Paris.. I feel Paris is going to be leaving.

Well, it took me awhile to read the blog this morning and then my mouse decided to die on me….but enough about me, this is about…AMERICAN IDOL. Boy, what a strange night. Can I just say that the amount of pedofiles on the internet went down last night as they were watching AI instead. Did Ryan really bring up the wardrobe malfunction? Why? This made Kat get on my nerves a little bit more - that wink to the camera does too! So, how would I rank last night? 1. Talor - Something - WOW! Ok, not really the wow moment of the season, but I loved that he really SANG this one.

  1. Chris - Renegade - I LOVE this song. I think he had a great performance with this, even if a little flat.

  2. Taylor - Funky Music, he had fun, and I think that spills over to the audience. Definately not a boring performance.

  3. Kat - Dark Horse - and I hate putting her this high up, but I thought her vocals were pretty good on this song that I am not familiar with. The writhing on the stage, I could do without that, please.

  4. Chris - Dare to tell - I don’t know this song either. He did ok, but he really needed to listen to David Foster and start singing from the diaphram and not his throat.

  5. Elliott - Home - I don’t know the song, but he definately sounded better than his first.

  6. Paris - Be Without you - I think the only thing that saved her on this is that it isn’t that well known a Mary J song yet. And had none of her powerful vocals in it that Paris needed to pull off.

  7. Elliott - On Broadway - This was just bad. I am not a fan of the vibrato, but I know that he can sing. But he wasn’t good on this.

9/ 10. This one is a tie between Kat and Paris. Against all odds HURT MY EARS!! Paris doing Kiss was just bad….that is the nicest thing I can say…

So, there are my choices for the bottom 2, Kat and Paris, and I would be ok with either of them going home.

i think idol may be fixed because bucky was certainly a cut above the rest and surely deserved to win. i think stereotypes and societal values come into play so that this contest actually becomes a popularity contest and contestants are not rated according to their talent.it’s all just a hoax.

p.s. i think mike s has a great deal of time on his hands to give such an ‘in-depth analysis’ of the phrase YOU WERE ALL. mike s i believe you are an idol groupie and a perv (refer to your pros and cons of kat leaving)

Sorry to say but I think some of Paris’ fan base is leaving her so she may be next. She’s young and cute as she can be so she still may go forward with a good career, I hope so. Did anyone see Picklers dad being released from prison? Someone did a makeover on him I bet, he looked much better than I thought he would.

Taylor made me swoon during “Something”. I was so apprehensive, because, I mean, they’re The Beatles, and I love The Beatles. But man, he totally worked it.

I love Chris’ version of “Renegade”, but did not particularly enjoy “I Dare You”.

I liked Elliot overall, but neither song blew me away.

Paris didn’t bring it at all. I’m hoping that this is her week to go.

Kat can go home too for all I care. If it means I don’t have to watch her crawling around on her knees and bending over for the camera to get a better look at the twins, that’s ok with me. I don’t necessarily have a problem with a contestant skanking it up onstage; but Kat started out this sweet, demure little girl, and as the weeks progress, she seems to be getting desperate, and it’s so unappealing.

After the comment that Katharine’s voice was not “big enough” for Whitney Houstons song last week, I can not believe someone did not kill Paris for her horrible performace trying to sing a Mary J Blige song. I was horrible and my 6 year old wanted to know why she wore silver pants w/a camo jacket. I do not even want to know what possesed her to sing KISS. Plesa be the end of her. Katharine’s 1st song was the worse of the night I do not know if she was ever on key, 2nd not bad vocal I did not understand the floor humping?!? Taylor was cute I think Play that funky music was perfect for him. I love Chris, He is definately Rock and Roll. Elliot was not bad either. Bye Paris PLEASE

Mary J Blige isn’t a good singer. Don’t kill me for saying that but I don’t like her voice, although I do enjoy some of her music. If Paris wasn’t such an imitator I bet she could do a much better job than Mary with the song.

Deirdre is actually an ancient Gaelic name, which has been around for much longer than your computer. I’ll bet your computer thinks my name is spelled Deidre…which is a different name..even pronounced differently. The woman who named me is from Ireland….so I think she probably got it right. I think Taylor was awesome last night on both songs. I love his energy. Chris did pretty well on Renegade, but I hated the other song. Elliott is too ‘cabaret’, to quote Simon. Paris was good, but her speaking voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Kat did okay on her last song, but the first one was terrible. I’m not that impressed with Kat. She’s my first choice to go home, followed by Elliott.

It is still amazing that last year everyone wanted Diana DeGarmo to win over Fantasia and she was the same age as Paris. Simon’s word to describe Taylor - spelling and definition follows.

barm·y Pronunciation (bärm) adj. barm·i·er, barm·i·est 1. Full of barm; foamy. 2. Eccentric; daft.

Simon was using the #2 definition Tho maybe he was blending the foamy, lightweight meaning with eccentric, daft (crazy) meaning.

By IdolOverEasy

May 3, 2006 12:27 PM | Link to this

I was actually VERY disappointed last night, and thought it was a VERY erratic night.

Chris should have knocked everyone dead with his second song since he could choose from the Top 10 alternative rock listing which is Chris’ heart and soul, yet chooses a song that not even I (who religiously listens to 105.3 The Buzz and 99X) have heard, and it wasn’t even a good song, then his voice just gave out. He was really excellent with Renegade though! I admit surprise here, because his voice is so different from Tommy Shaw and I expected not to like his rendition, but instead, LOVED it!

When I heard Kat was singing Against All Odds, I would have bet a paycheck she would nail it perfectly, yet this was her worst performance of the entire series! She really came back with the Horse and Cherry Tree song though, I loved it almost as much as Chris’ Renegade!

Elliot was boring both songs. On Broadway is just a Karaoke song, and everyone tries, and everyone fails, to do it better than George Benson. What no one seems to catch onto is, what made the song so great and work so well was George Benson singing with the guitar lead lines. Vocals by themselves spells BORING SONG. I actually enjoyed the Buble song, but I thought Eliot sang it very poorly. I just have a personal dislike for excessive vibrato, though it seems the judges give him extra points for sounding like he is singing while drinking water.

Paris, well, I think everyone here by now knows I just don’t like her. Too young, too mechanical, too rehearsed, too bad, now back to home (I hope)

Taylor, Taylor, Taylor…WHY did you pick what may be the worst lousy bar band song of the century??? 1976 had Leon Russell, Little Feat, Wet Willie, Atlanta Rythym Section…scores of southern blues soul that would fit your voice perfectly with really catchy tunes that could have won the competition for you, yet you choose Funky Music??? ARRRGGHHHHH!!!! Gotta hand it to ya though, you really came through on Something…EXCELLENT vocal performance on that one!

All that said, I still have my favorites as Kat and Chris, and I still think America is going to put Taylor and Chris in the final two.

I still like Elliott and Taylor. Elliott is soulful and Taylor is funky. I didn’t like that kind of rock Chris sang, and Kathryn is okay, but not my favorite. Kelly was my favorite, along with Elliott. I never liked Paris. She is just too phoney and is not that good. I have never even heard of her mother. I don’t know how she lasted this long. I thought the other girl from Duluth, Georgia was better than her. I have never seen either Taylor or Elliott do a bad or even an average performance. Both are good. Chris is awesome, too, but I do not like that kind of rock music he sings. Give me some Led Zepplin, Aerosmith or Stones rock n roll. All that new stuff is not rock n roll.

Hi Dierdre, work has taken precedence over life for me the last couple of weeks, just don’t get a chance to get on the blog much.

I figure I am in the minority in my opinion of Taylor’s performance. Having been a musician for many, many, many (did I mention many?) years, that song just grates on my nerves, and I have seen SO many bad renditions of it and heard so many bad performers sing it, that even when someone does it well (as Taylor did, I have to admit), it still to me is a really bad song.

I was just hoping he would have picked one of the great southern blues soul that was out back then, like Dixie Chicken by Little Feat, or even something like The Boys Are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy.

Incidentally, little trivia bit, a good friend of mine played drums on a song that was #34 on the charts for 1976…Moonlight Feels Right, by Starbuck.

How can you overlook the level of class, potential, and stage presence, that Chris and Kathrine have??? (nobody is even close to these two)Don’t get me wrong I really like Taylor!!! But, come ON, he is not the American Idol, he is just NOT well-rounded as Chris and Katherine.

YoD…if I just weren’t the biggest Prince fan alive, I might have enjoyed our baby girl.

Shay, we’ll help you through Paris’ memorial service…you are surrounded by all your friends and we will be there for you in your time of need. :-)

I wouldn’t mind Chris, E-Train or Taylor winning at this point…we can’t lose… they’re all three that good IMO…

Chuck, if I remember right, the lead singer of that band (and really the one who put it together) was a real egomaniac, so it doesn’t surprise me what you say.

Another trivia bit for any old time Atlantans…the bass player of Starbuck went on to join a band called Cartoon, changing the name to The Producers, who had two albums which should have been a lot bigger than they were. Great great early 80’s band. Big songs were Sheila, What’s He Got (that I ain’t got?), and probably their biggest hit What She Does To Me.

Shirley from Duluth, GA: Paris’ grandmother is Ann Nesby, from Sounds of Blackness. Even Randy said she is the bomb, which she is. Sounds of Blackness was really popular in the early 90s.

Vin, I will have a box of tissue tomorrow for the service. I may be catching the Etrain to work tomorrow morning. I spent all my gas money rounding up Paris supporters around the City of Atlanta yesterday. Nah! I’m kidding. But I do need some gas money. Maybe Paris’ grandma can give me a Shell Gas Card for all the support I gave her family.

By Chris

May 3, 2006 01:22 PM | Link to this

OK…I really hate that Taylor has the huge fan base that he does because he truely will ruin the perfect final two competition of Chris and Katharine. Paris and Elliot fans have to take the blinders off and realize that they are not good enough to be considered American Idols. Taylor is entertaining, yes, but then again,he doesn’t not fit the mold of the American Idol. That is not to say that I will not be in line to buy his CD when it comes out though.

Chris and Katharine are it, they have the talent and performance capabilities to take the Idol crown. They really deserve to shoot it out at the end.

And this whole “she doesn’t connect with me” line that I hear so much here is total garbage. The people who say that are showing there true bias for other performers and do not really appreciate the real talent Katharine has. Her second performance just nailed how much talent she has and should put her in the final.

Hey vin. I just got back from lunch. I was so happy Chris Young won last night. The previous 3 years my fav finished:

3- Miranda Lambart (Season 1) Has a great career going now.

2- George Canyon (Season 2) Has not been able to get it going in the US but was last year’s Entertainer of the Year in Canada.

2- Jason Meadows (Season 3) He has not been able to get a record but we haven’t heard anything from the winner that year either since her first single bombed. She got way overshadowed by Carrie Underwood.

I see Chris being the best talent to come out of Nashville Star.

I checked the schedule for NS tour. The closest stops to Atlanta are Bessemer & Dothan, AL & Valdosta, GA. While the AI tour comes nowhere near TX, the NS tour is right down the road from where I live so I will be there.

You can check out Chris’ webpage at:

www.chrisyoungcountry.com

I will let you know when his single is to be released.

Hey Mitch, baby! Yeah!!!! Chris Young!! Drats about his tour schedule. Not close enough to the ATL but once his Nash Star CD is released and he is in demand, he’ll hit ATL eventually. My inlaws live in Tennessee, and I KNOW I can catch him there! I think Chris is probably the most talented winner of any season on AI or Nash Star.

I think a lot of poeple believe that Taylor is a good performer but he is not the best singer here and once everyone else if voted off I think the people who really appriciate talent will vote for Chris. Getting tired of Chris, same ole, same ole…..Taylor was great, as usual! Paris is awesome for a 16 year old! Wow, and Elliott has such a wonderful voice………I think Chris wil win, however, I sure would like to see Katherine or Elliott win it all! Or Taylor!

Funny everyone is talking about how great seeing Taylor live or on TV would be. Most artists make their money from CD sells which you can only listen too. I for one wouldn’t buy his CD. Vin, Once he releases his CD, I want to watch to see how the sales of the CD progress. As big a fan of Carrie Underwood that I am, I feel that Chris will have the advantage over her since he can write his on music. His song “Drinking Me Lonely” is a fantastic song. I definately see that song as a #1 hit if RCA chooses to release it. RCA has promised to back this years winner much more than the last 3 have been.

Ghost Ride

While driving a car, open the door and climb out onto the hood while the car continues to roll. It is typical for one to dance around on the hood while the car is ghostin.

I agree with Chris. Chris and Katharine SHOULD be the final two. My prediction is that Elliott leaves tonight with Paris barely hanging on. The best performances last night were Taylor’s “Something” (and I’m not a fan of him) and Katharine’s “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree.” The worst were Paris’ “Kiss” and Katharine’s “Against All Odds.” Something was wrong with Paris’ arrangement, and Katharine’s timing seemed WAY OFF.

I’ve read that Elvis week will be soon. I’m NOT looking forward to that! IMHO, this season’s theme shows have been some of the worst ever. I say let them sing what they sing best!!!

They never sing the songs I want to hear! So, before they leave, I’d love to hear the following: Paris (Giving You the Best That I Got by Anita Baker), Katharine (Don’t Know Why by Norah Jones), Chris (Rock and Roll Fantasy by Bad Company), Taylor (Sweet Freedom by Michael McDonald), Elliott (On Broadway—he sang it last night UNFORTUNATELY—be careful what you wish for).

Sean…great song choices. I thought Elliot would do great with On Broadway, too. How wrong we were! Paris does have that smokey Anita Baker quality and I’ve always thought Kat would do well with a Norah Jones song. Sweet Freedom should have been one of Taylor’s first choices.

I’ve always wanted Paris to sing something by Anita Baker or Toni Braxton. And, even though I really like Katharine’s voice, I think her lower register is better. taylor and Elliott have talent, but I just can’t WATCH them perform (for different reasons). And, although I think Chris will win and although I like him, I would like to see him mix it up a bit.

I don’t know ‘bout all that shootin’ but I for one feel that rappas ought to get involved in Nascar…..you know…like P Diddy could have his record studios sponsor Busta Rhymes or go back and get an ol’ skooler like Hammer to drive…..they could get the number 9 (for semi auto) and the team could be named something like ‘Can’t Touch This’….spinouts could become known as drive-by’s etc….

I think violence in rap is based on publicity. They’re just trying to see who can look and act the hardest or be the realest and who can do things that classify them as a true gangster and/or thug. Which is sad because they’re definitely ruining the art of hip hop and the fun and positivity that was it’s original intent. Not to mention, they’re ruining communities and engraining these ideas certain generations heads which is going to be it’s cause for continuing. Okay sorry…steps off my soapbox

I guess I should have specified myself. This is the first week they have used the contestants voices instead of the standard recording. Maybe they should use the standard for everyone.

HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a question, do any of you all have a job? Or let me guess, you are stay at home moms with children. And the children probably go to daycare because you are too busy playing on the computer talking to your nerdy, dugeons & dragons playing friends. Go Elliot!!!!!

LA!!! Paris did Prince!!! Everyone should do a Prince song. She’s still slated to say “Ta Ta” this evening but Kat is just barely scraping by…she was not at her best last evening. Chris and Hicks are still doing the SO SO stuff. The Beatles song should have been dis-allowed for Hicks. I don’t see what is so wonderful about Hicks—I’m with Simon! Elliot was OK on both songs but I wish he would’ve picked something more powerful than the Buble number. I cannot get over Paris did PRINCE!!! O my gawd!

I have a quick question for all: It’s a moot point and might have even been addressed earlier, but — Prince’s Kiss came out on his 1986 Parade LP. That was 20 years ago. Paris is only 17. So how was this song from the year she was born?

Was there a Taylor-like loophole that I missed?

Just curious.

OK here is one from the For What It Is Worth file.

Each week a person calling themselves Aunt Edna and claims to have the actual vote totals gives out clues to that weeks bottom and vote off. Now the claim is that this person is right every week, but that is open for debate. Anyway here are this weeks clues. Have fun trying to figure this crap out. LOL

CLUE 1 - PCHET CHE TPCEH

My guess here is that this is the bottom 3 - the clue is in the number of letters — 5 3 5 — CHRIS KAT PARIS

CLUE 2 - KETCHUP BENLOPHEE DAYMINCHRATH

Only one FULL name in here - KATHERINE MCPHEE

CLUE 3 - SKATE CRATE MAY PASS

As with Clue 2 parts of all names but only one full name/nickname - KAT

So that interpretation could mean KAT is the one going home. Have some fun and see if you can come up with something else.

Cynthia are you related to Pickler? Man are you du…. well not so smart! I don’t mean that in a mean way but to think ATL and Atlanta were two different words/meanings and to think that a person’s name would be spelled a certain way in spell check when clearly people spell names different all the time. Are you kidding me? And this takes the cake. To ask if we know that dialidol.com doesn’t take into consideration the text messages. Is someone pulling my chain on this blog? Good catch, LJ. I was thinking last night that Kiss came out before 88. Maybe that was when the cover was done (Tom Jones f. The Art of Noise)? Prince had already done 2 or 3 more albums by then (Sign ‘o’ the Times and Lovesexy). The Batman soundtrack was around the same time, but maybe 89?

Well he did it again!!!!! Taylor brought the house down last night! I can remember 2 shows this year when he was not the clear winner of the night. He no doubt is the best in the contest. I thought the fact that Chris pushes his voice to the hilt every time would catch up with him and it has now. He blamed it on singing the song 5 times yesterday wonder what would happen to his voice if he tried to sing a 2 hour concert in that yelling, screaming manner? I think it should be Taylor and Elliott for all the marbles with Taylor coming out on top. YOU GO MR. BLUESY SOUL MAN THE SOUL PATROL IS STILL OUT HERE CASTING VOTES!!!!!

By shay

May 3, 2006 04:06 PM | Link to this

Mike S, this is all I could come up with for clue #1. Still working on the rest.

CLUE 1 - PCHET CHE TPCEH

CLUE # 1. (K)Kat is the only initial not in the bunch. PC (Paris and Chris) seperated in one group. ET (Elliott and Taylor in another group). H in the middle. Ryan asks Kat to go to the group with the lowest number of votes. She runs to Paris group and there you have your bottom three. He immediately sends Chris back to safety. Kat’s initial is replaced with H meaning home. As in her a* is going home. I will go with your theory that CHRIS KAT AND PARIS are in the bottom three. Based on the 5-3-5.

By Jex
