5/11: Fuel asks for Chris
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
During the press conference with print media at 1 p.m. EST today, Chris hinted he was expected to be offered a job with a band, Extra says is Fuel (see press release below), though he wouldn’t be able to join the group til at least 90 days after the show is over. He’s not sure if he’d even take such an offer if it’s given. “I’m at a position this all just happened. I”m not sure what I think of any of it,” he said.
He acknowledged he was shocked and “bummed” getting voted off, that he had no idea he was going to be booted. “It was a shocker and gutwrenching,” he said. “I was not expecting that, not even a little.”
Chris said he thought Kat, as most of the audience thought, expected to go home. “I gave every performance like it was my last,’ he said. “I dont know if people got comfortable and assumed I’d be in the finals. You never know.”
I got in as the second media person to ask a question during the 30 minutes and asked him if he felt any pressure from being the early frontrunner. He naturally said no, that he blocked it out. He also said he began shaving his head three or four years ago, partly to ward off that recession issue.
He said he auditioned on CBS’s “Rock Star: INXS” but didn’t get far.
Here’s the Extra press release
(Los Angeles – May 11, 2006) In an EXCLUSIVE interview, the multi-platinum rock band Fuel comes to Extra and to say they want American Idol’s eliminated Chris Daughtry!
Fuel bass player Jeff Abercrombie and songwriter/guitarist Carl Bell came straight to Extra’s Idol Correspondent Terri Seymour with the offer of a lifetime… they want Chris.
The band has been searching for a new lead singer and definitely took notice of Chris’ rendition of their hit “Hemorrhage” March 1st on Idol. “Chris, if you’re watching,” Bell says, “we’ve talked about this before, if you wanna entertain it again, we’ll entertain it again and go!”
How’d the idea get hatched? Extra Senior Executive Producer Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey played the matchmaker. “It came to me last night as I watched Chris get voted off,” she says, “the wife of Fuel’s bass player works for Extra so I know the guys in the band well. It seemed like a perfect fit!”
As for Elvis, Bell says no worries. “Chris, you won’t have to do any Elvis songs if you come to Fuel bro- they’re no more! You won’t have to do that.”

I am so glad Christ is gone, now Elliott can RIGHTFULLY WIN.
E might not look handsome, but he’s a better singer than ALL OF THE REST. But you got to admit he looks better than when he first started. Heck all of them do. Look back at some of their auditions……SCARY!!!!!

Chris sucked. He deserved to get voted off. Elliot has the best voice, but hes ugly. Taylor is the karaoke/wedding king. Kat is too fat but she has a pretty face. This American Idol sucked. Go Pickler!!

blink kat fat? oh my. I do have to agree that perhaps chris AND his fans got a little too cocky about his being in the final two, and just didn’t put out enough (the fans) votes to ensure his presence there. I am a little surprised he did not make it into the inxs auditions, but maybe he IS a little to rigid in his style..meaning that until later in the competition, everything DID sound like one genre, one skill… he started showing more personality and more diversity, and i thought would continue to grow… we’ll see, i guess.
i like him… but then i always did sort of go for the “dark” type, lol

Well that’s interesting, Rodney, that Chris isn’t sure he’s feeling Fuel. He may be holding out for a more lucrative offer as a solo artist. And that’s a smart move…Fuel is not exactly selling out venues like Georgia Dome… and profits split X ways wouldn’t leave that much for Chris. He’ll do fine as a solo artist if he choses that route. Someone will definitely sign him.

in addition to diabetes, elliot has something like 90% hearing loss in one ear, which to me makes it pretty darned impressive that he sings so well.. i’m not a singer, but for the most part, i thought singers did have to rely a bit on hearing (the band, back up singers, etc) … while he’s obviously learned to compensate within himself to know his own sound, i still think it’s a huge accomplishment on his part, and admire him greatly for his perserverence

I cant get the look on Chris’ face out of my mind. Kind of like its burned into my Soul. Did you all see his Eyes! The poor fellow looked as if he would faint. I thought I had Blacked out for a second. I had to Catch My Breath! I am with Chris. I feel his fans got too comfortable and didnt vote because they were so sure he would win. Wow! how wrong they were. AI is one show you dont underestimate. No one is safe. I believe Simon said that Weeks Ago.Still I feel Chris’ staying in the same Rock zone..did him in. folks were getting tired. I for one was getting a little bored with the screaming..but I really like dude though. oh well, LIfe is NOT fair, but we already know that.

Please, will all of the Pickler fans go away. It is those fans who kept Kat instead of Chris. When you leave it up to the American Public to vote, last nights results is what you are left with. AI is not about looks, and who cares anyway in this day and age, with the right surgen anybody can look good. If you had a lot of money, you could also look like a cover girl/boy. Elliott will be just fine, money makes every cosmetic probelm go away.If you can not vote on talent alone, do not vote!! AI would be a much better show with out your stero types. Pickler was one of the least talented in the top 12 by far. Pickler should have left before Bucky, and Ace.

Finally Chris is off! He doesn’t need sympathy, he needs money. He needs to take singing lessons to learn how to be versitle and not think that everyone in this country wants to hear Acid-Rock. He needs a coach to tell him that when he tries to sing in a different way he needs to stop looking like a fish-out-of-water. He was soooooo sure he was going to win. Here’s your wake-up call Chris. Not everyone thought you were that great!

Pat, there are all kinds of rock but I would never use the word Acid to describe Chris. He is totally alternative rock which gets the 99x airplay and most likely The Beat and Star as well. Pat, don’t know how much rock you listen to but mainstream rock is what Chris represents. Honestly, it should be defined by age and demographics.

That is pathetic. WE AMERICANS pride ourselves on living with our different opinions. Step down from your soapbox, your daddy can talk to me like that because he earned it. You have not. Reg, hon, calm down. We all here do appreciate that we have the right to express our opinions… but we do try to do it with respect for each other (except for the iggits running in and out of the group, but i figure they’re probably about 14 years old anyway). you are welcome here, welcome to express your opinion. And i agree. there’s a lot of crap going down in the world… many of us come to AI and this blog because it’s a little piece of escape from the horrors and fears and worries we face every day, from gas prices, to mortgage/rent payments to jobs — or lack of jobs, to wars and wmd’s and identity theft and so much more.
this place is a little corner where we can freely debate the merits of voice, looks, popularity, conspiracy theories, etc. with the absolute knowledge that if we are WRONG, it’s not the end of the world, and if we disagree, we can agree to do just that, you know?
you’re cool, sir, and welcome :)

sorry reg,
at the point of the blog I entered it did infact appear to be an attack. I have met way to many people who think because they have served they can push others around. My GrandFather one of them. I dont like it and I hate to see it happen to others. Please accept my apoligy if I spoke out of line. I just think if people like to push and berate others then let them stick their head to where they cant hear or see whats going on. I am sorry. I wasnt attacking you but trying to defend another who looked like was being attacked. I am not a 14 yr old iggit, who names call.

Everyone has the right to state their opinion, and in my opinion — THE VOTING SYSTEM THAT AMERICAN IDOL HAS IN PLACE SUCKS !!!!! a change needs to be made for the 07 season. Maybe a 50/50 split with the public, and judges?

Jex you said it! Normally as a rule (for the sake of Macho Macho man image) i dont cry for dudes! and i didnt cry for chris. but my heart took on the look that was on his face! not only was my spirit broken(more like shattered!) but he had one of the saddest puppie dog looks I had ever seen on tv. dude should go into acting in serious drama roles. the look in his eyes was priceless and very striking. I vote he go into acting as a side/hobby. he convinced me with his shock look and made me feel his pain! poor fellow! like i said i dont ball for dudes but he almost made me wanna ball like a 2yr old. :-( talking about heartache! It surely was heartbreak hotel last night for chris.

pj…it happens everyday gurlfrien’…and it’s not plural..it’s one sick, twisted mind. No one really knows his true identity because even when he blogged to us under his “real” identity, even that is fake. We can tell you this much though, he’s also impersonating a grown man.

To mac music, what is wrong with the voting system. It is based on the fans voting, you have dedicated voters and then you have the ones that step back and let everyone else vote because they don’t want too hear a busy signal and have to keep trying. A lot of people don’t vote because they think they have to pay for the calls, its a 866 number which is the same as a 800 #. Get with the program voters…..

I, too, am completely “bummed out” that Chris is gone from Idol. I’m done with it. Taylor Hicks is nothing more than a wedding/karaoke singer on steroids and Elliott is soooo not star material. Chris was in a different league entirely with stage presence for days and vocals to rival some of rock n’ roll’s greatest performers. Oh well, now I can do something worthy of my time on Tues. and Wed. nights.

Chris lost by 18 votes!!! That SUCKS! I am going to boycott watching again until next Tuesday! Then I will cheer for Taylor to where the AI crown…but secretly it was reported in underground trade magazines that Katherine beats Taylor in the finals!!! She was told to act shocked last night and had to be in the final two so that Simon looked like he made sense with his comments. When in reality she had more votes than Taylor.

I’m aware of what’s going on and I know that is Vin’s real address. Rodney has the tech people working on the problem but our main imposter appears to be a computer expert as well, and that is making it very difficult to track and block. Just letting you know that the problem is more difficult to solve than ordinary playful kiddies. This person is seriously disturbed and very clever. I suggest we do our best to recognize and ignore the imposter.

Howdy blawgers! What a day, huh? I’m not surprised about Chris. We were overdue for the seasonal “shock”. He is good at what he does, so I think he is lucky to slip out of Idol’s clutches. They would have him singing crap like Inside Your Heaven (just WHAT does that mean anyway?) and he deserves much better.
So anyway, I’m really tired and hurting today, and it’s pouring rain out. Sounds like a good time for a nap! Maybe when I come back all the parents will be home from work and the middle schoolers will be off doing their chores :-)

maybe he will be back in school tomorrow?
Any ideas, besides Georgia on my Mind by Taylor, what our finalists might choose to sing? I’ve got NO idea what the judges will choose… not even a clue… and as for Clive, well in the past i’ve been a bit surprised at the selections, although it’s been interesting to see how well the finalists handle the songs
that’s what makes this next show so interesting.
and i have to say, i was overall pleasantly surprised at the elvis tribute show—even tho’ kat wasn’t at her best, they all gave it a good shot — and it was one of the most fun shows yet
Mike S I know you won’t be with us next week and I’m truly sorry… between you and Rodney we’ve had some darned good insight into upcoming shows!!! hurry back!!! and please, if you can, give us your wisdom in the evenings … we’ll miss you!

AlfaninATL…….Ridiculous! Kat turned pale last night…you can’t fake that! For heavens sake why can’t everybody just accept the fact that Chris lost and AI is NOT controlling who gets the most votes. THEY DON’T CARE WHO WINS. They have all 10 of the finalists under contract for at least a year. They don’t promote the winner any more than they do all the other contestants. All they do is put out a CD…..then 3 months later they can put out a CD for ANY of the other finalists!

It is really sad that all of our favorites don’t get to stay on American Idol. When someone is gone, due to a majority vote, please don’t be rude and say ugly things about those remaining contestants. Chris was O.K., and will be just fine, but he was not the favorite of everyone. Just vote for the person in the final three you now wish to win. AI should be fun entertainment for all, not a select few. Good luck to all that have left, and the three remaining in season four. You must vote to keep your choice in the competition.
