5/16: Soaring over that rainbow

Clive made life tough for all three of them in the opening trio of songs. The judges handed them songs on a platter and all three delivered, though Katharine probably solidified her chances to get into the final two over Elliott. And in the personal round, Taylor easily finished off the strongest. His slot in the final two is solidified though he’s going to lose some votes for constantly yelping “Soul Patrol! Soul Patrol! Soul Patrol!”

So my gut reaction is the bottom two will be Kat and Elliott and Elliott will go home. His final song choice did him in. It was almost like Chris picking another Creed song if he were still in the competition.

Dialidol as of 10:15 p.m. is showing Taylor in the lead as usual and a close race between Kat and Elliott, with Kat just barely ahead. Could this be a photo finish? Or will Kat’s text messaging friends and West Coast Buddies give her a comfy lead and put away Elliott?

  1. Katharine (Simon’s pick “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland & others) — Kimberley Locke rocked this song. We’ll see if Kat can do it, too. She’s on the floor again! A camera from above. Something wrong with her ear? What did she just do during the start of the chorus? She’s doing it in a very sexy, sultry way, which is her strength. It’s a theatrical song and she’s theater all the way. She doesn’t try to blow it out, thank goodness. She even hits the last note well. This is easily her best performance in ages, if ever. Thank you SImon! Randy: “Finally! Finally, this is what I’ve been waiting for. This is the best vocal for you this season. That was brilliant.” Paula: “Soak in this moment. Your element and your magic is when you don’t go overboard.” Simon: “I’m very happy for you tonight. It proves the point you don’t need to lay it too much. You have a very special talent. That was the single best performance in the competition to date.”

  2. Taylor (Randy’s pick Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful”) — Randy couldn’t have picked a better song but the comparisons to Joe Cocker may not necessarily be a good thing. We’ll see. Taylor is taking the subtle route and he hits a home run. Thank you Randy! Randy: “A great tender moment from Taylor. You did the song proud.” Paula: “You not only look like a star, you are a star.” SImon: “That was far and away your best performance.” But the soul patrol shout outs—getting annoying!

  3. Taylor (Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding) – He gives the umpteenth to “Soul Patrol” before jumping in and swim in the soul. A delight. He’s playing to win! Randy: “I got a new name for you. Your new name from now on is have a good time funky Taylor.” (Uh huh). Paula: “I chose this and foudn out you picked it yourself. You did an incredible job.” Simon: “Smart choice of song. Good performance. Hideous ending. But I’ll see you next Tuesday.”

  4. Elliott (Paula’s pick “What You Won’t Do For Love” Bobby Caldwell) — This is much better for Elliott than Journey. And he’s feeling this one much more. It fits him like a glove. Thank you, Paula! A solid performance all the way around. Randy: “It was a good song choice. You were a little sharp most of the song.” Paula: “This is the kind of artist you are. You have amazing soul, amazing R&B tone. You just pierce to the heart. You’re solid.” Simon: “It wasn’t the song in the world but the style suited you well. I thought you sang that pretty good.”

  5. Katharine (Personal choice: “I Ain’t Got Nothing But the Blues” by Ella Fitzgerald) — She really goes old school but picks a song that’s all slinky and she wears a decent dress, too. I’m sure she’s sung this many times and figured it’d be an easy one to slide in. It’s a far more fun sung than what Elliott chose. Not quite “Rainbow” but better than R. Kelly. Randy: “The last song was the one for me. It was okay. I understand what you’re doing. I don’t know.” Paula: “Over the Rainbow is in your element but you still did a great job.” SImon: “Overall, you’ve had a good night tonight. You go five steps forward, one step back. I just wish we had reversed the order and ended up with the songs in the middle round with all of you. It was okay.”

  6. Elliott (Clive’s choice: Journey’s “Open Arms”) — The very first Journey song ever cleared for “Idol”! High school proms, dates at the roller skating rink, that first kiss. And “Open Arms.” Elliott does a very truncated version and does it well. I expect good marks from the judges though he’s not quite as comfortable as he is with the R&B songs he usually sings. Randy: “That song is near and dear to my heart. I was in Journey… At first, when I heard about that choice. But you worked it out. You had a little problem with the chorus but take chances. Do your thing!” Paula: ” You are in excellent voice tonight. You did a great job.” Simon: “It was a good choice of song. It wasn’t a great performance. You are a little stiff. You have to got to loosen up and have to believing you can make the finals next week. You can do better than that.”

  7. Taylor (Clive choice: Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In the Dark”) — This is Bruce’s 37th best song. Was this the only Bruce song you could clear? How about “Born to Run”? Or “Brilliant Disguise”? Or “Hungry Heart”? Taylor tried but man, there’s nothing he could do with this unless Courtney Cox came out from the crowd or something. Well, he used Paula instead. Randy: “What I love about you? You know how to have a good time. Dancing with Paula was hot!” Paula: “I had fun with you. You’re incredible!” Simon: “That was okay. It was a bit pale in comparison to the original.” And Taylor yelps “Soul Patrol” again. Yeesh!

  8. Katharine (Clive choice: R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly”) — At least she doesn’t sound anything like R. Kelly. She’s got that grin on her face as always. It doesn’t quite soar but it’s okay. She wants so much to be Celine and Whitney but she’s not. She looks great as always. Randy: “You look amazing. But you know my problem still is. These songs you want to be that singer. But you aren’t that one just yet. It wasn’t quite the right thing for you.” Paula: “You look beautiful. This is difficult.” Then Kat jumps in: ” You’ve been rough on me the past couple of weeks.” Someone in the crowd says “You’re incredible” and Paula never gets around to critiquing. Simon: “I think you’re being a bit unfair. I think apart from a couple of bum notes toward the end, you created a bit of a moment for yourself.” Randy: “I disagree.” You have to wonder if her talking back will help or hurt her.

  9. Elliott (Personal choice: “I Believe To My Soul,” the Donny Hathaway version of the Ray Charles song) —It’s got a gospel edge to it and he seems comfy but the song is sort of dull in the end. It was just okay. Randy: “I don’t believe this was the perfect song for you but you can definitely sing.” Paula: “I agree with what Randy said. It’s not a song people can connect with because they don’t know it but the thing about you Elliott nobody can sing songs like that, like Ray Charles, it’s difficult to sing that song. You’re a funky white boy.” SImon: “Your songs are not going to carry you through next week. However, you’re a great guy. You’re a great singer. You will make your mom very proud in what you’ve achieved in this competition.”

HELLO FROM DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am here, and stoked for the show!

Getting some rehearsal news. Kat is said to have hit a home run with “Over the Rainbow” and then FORGOT HER LYRICS on “I belive I can Fly”. Trying to get word on Taylor and Elliot.

Great to hear the imposter is MIA.

Initial word is order is Elliot, Kat, Taylor.

Just as the #2 person has gone home on top 5 week — The first 4 seasons the person performing first on top 3 night has gone home every year.

Either way, a little safe, but beautiful.

Mike - I agree 100%. She screamed that song…even Paula couldn’t quite put it into words. Simon is playing devil’s advocate, I guess. Taylor’s on right now — not a great one for him either.

Ok: 1st up: Elliott with BAD song choice! AI commandment #4: Thou shalt not start the show with a ballad. I know Clive stuck him with it, but Randy played bass with Journey and will be super critical. Too bad. No movement, no runs. Pitchy too.

NEXT!!!

Kat sings R. Kelly - another ballad (suprise) I believe I can fly - breaks another AI commandment #6: Thou shalt not sing a song performed too many times in auditions. VERY flat at times - too runny - missed high note. NOT GOOD. Simon sucked up to Clive when Randy ppointed out she broke Commandment #6.

NEXT!!

It’s our man singin’ Springsteen (for the 1st time on AI) Dancing in the Dark: NAILED IT!!! YEAH BABY!!! WHOOOOOOOOO! Soul Patrol!!!! And he pulled Paula outa the audience! BAMMMM! (no suprise, really)

It’s OVAH!!!! Round 1 to Taylor.

BTW Rodney - you don’t get Taylor - we know - at least don’t come out and say anything nice about him. You’d start a trend.

Mike, Elliott sang: So now I come to you with open arms hoping you’ll see what your love means to me Here I am with open arms nothing to hide, believe what I say open arms

I’m pretty certain it really goes: So now I come to you with open arms nothing to hide, believe what I say Here I am with open arms hoping you’ll see what your love means to me open arms

Agreed with mikegadawg on the hyping of Elliot. Could Paula be any further inside Elliot’s back pocket? Not that he isn’t great—I’d like to see a Kat-Elliot final—but Paula’s a bit over-the-top with him

okay, hate to admit it…as a longstanding rider on the Etrain…but I’m afraid my boy is going home

Soul Patrol will keep Taylor…even though You are so Beautiful was a bit boring. But KAT, i’ve never liked this girl, but she BROUGHT IT with “Somewhere over the rainbow”. My hats off to her. That performance will see her to the finals. I missed Elliot’s first performance (got home at 8:09) but I was waiting for “Do for Love” and he did pretty good. But not good enough to overtake Kat and Taylor….sigh. We’ll see what happens on song #3.

Im so irritated. Its so clear Simon wants a Taylor and Kat showdown…

Its irritating. His last comment to Elliot was a clear ploy to influence the audience…

He wants Kat because she is the most marketable…

She seems so slutty to me tonight? I think thats why dont I connect to her even though she sings well….

Round three:

Elliott makes Ray Charles fans break the mute button on the remote by pressing it WAY too hard. And he broke Commandment # 9: Thou shalt not sing a song in another AI contestant’s genre. Buh bye Elliott!

Kat sings an OLD ballad, and also tries to borrow Taylor mojo (Commandment 9 again): stripper song!!! Stripper boots! McTata’s are out! She’s workin it folks… She’s in the finals. My ears still hurt though. I now have nuthin but the blues. Judges said she sucked.

Last up in the Pimp Spot: Taylor with an ‘in your face’ moment to Nigel and friends: the song judged not to be a great love song. A song when performed by Taylor in rehersal that was said to be appropriate for ‘Blues Brothers’ week, not Andrea’s week. Is there any doubt what would happen?

THUD!!!

A KNOCKOUT in the 3rd round. The winnah!!! Taylor.

Listen, understand how it is as I put tonight in a nutshell. One of the best nights that Idol has ever had! That being said. Taylor, Taylor Taylor, that is all I can say. You know I am impartial, I love all the contestants the best performance…Taylor, the best song…Kat(over the rainbow). Best overall…Elliott. But you have to have a lasting impression and Kat with the best song and Taylor with the best performance will go on. I hate to see the best singer not be there but this is real life and I have to keep it real!!

I can tell you Taylor did not nail Springsteen!!!Not at all, there is so much more life he could have brought to that song. Kathrine could have owned the night if she had picked a better song to end with. But I disagree with Rodney. open arms was the second best sung song of the night and I know a little about this song!

By Harmony372

May 16, 2006 09:05 PM | Link to this

ok….harmony breathing deeply now that I’ve calmed down. Taylor’s finish wasn’t so bad….it just ruined what i THOUGHT he would do with that song. So this is a flashback to season 2. Rueben/Clay/Kimberley. I wanted Kimberley to make the finals…she deserved it based on performance. Tonight I want Elliot to make finals, HE deserves it based on 3 solid performances…but Kim went home…and so will Elliot. Unless I get to TEXT VOTING!!!!! See y’all I’ll be lurking the rest of the night while I’m texting.

Chuckles, Listen to the show, Kat didn’t pick I believe I can fly, it was picked for her and they always pick male songs for her to sing. Let’s hear Taylor and Chris sing Diana Ross or Whitney…. vote Kat.

By bob

May 16, 2006 09:05 PM | Link to this

the winner of this year’s AI will ALWAYS be compared to Chris. It will be a modern day Clay vs. Ruben. Honestly, who will have a better career, the winner or Chris? What a shame. None of the performances were “superstar” material. They were all just ok.

Taylor will win, but what will he sing, oldies? That is all he seems to sing now, but can he be successful in that area?

By Mike S

Elliot - “Open Arms”, Journey - Beautiful tender song. Had to battle BANDZILLA to be heard. A great way to start the show. Good Job.

Katherine - “I Believe I Can Fly”, R Kelly - SHE DID IT AGAIN!!!! She lost the lyrics in the Chorus!!! Way oversang the second half of the song, way to much melisma, tried to many big notes. too too too much. Simon in bigtime pimp mode for Kat.

Taylor - “Dancing In The Dark”, Bruce Springsteen - Fun song, good job. Not great, but he brought it home!

First round - Taylor, Elliot, Katherine — but no one really hit a homerun so far.

Elliot - “What You Won’t Do For Love”, Bobby Crawford - Great Job on this song. Blew it out of the park. Perfect song choice for him. Paula did a good job picking it.

Katherine - “SomeWhere Over The Rainbow”, Judy Garland - Not bad, but not great. This was boring with a capital B. Not impressed at all.

Taylor - “You Are So Beautiful”, Joe Cocker - NIce understated start. Taylor going for the easy listening version, doing great. Turning it into the bluesy love song it is. Absolute Magic.

Second ROund - Taylor, Elliot, Katherine

Elliot - “I Believe To My Soul”, Ray Charles - Great job, but he picked way to obscure a song again. I think he has done fantastic tonight, but I am very worried about his chance.

Katherine - “I Ain’t Got Nothing But The Blues”, - Cats worldwide just committed suicide by the millions. Screechy, oversung, horrible train wreck. TOtal disaster, just gave Chris fans the reason they wanted to vote against her.

Taylor - “Try A Little Tenderness”, Otis Redding - Wow! This was Taylor’s signature performance. Absolutely amazing. A huge home run.

LAst round - Taylor, Elliot, Kat.

RANKING BY SONG : 1. Taylor - Try a Little Tenderness 2. Taylor - You are So Beautiful 3. Elliot - I Believe to My Soul 4. Elliot - What You Won’t Do For Love 5. Kat - Somewhere over the rainbow. 6. Taylor - Dancing in the Dark 7. Elliot - Open Arms 8. Kat - I Believe I can Fly 9. Kat - I Ain’t Got Nothing But The Blues

OVerall - TAYLOR, Elliot, Kat

Kat should go home for forgetting her lyrics for the second week in a row, and having her third consecutive week with at least one total trainwreck of a song. However, I think it will be extremely close between her and Elliot.

I’m really trying to vote for Elliott, but can’t complete a call. Don’t get a busy signal, don’t get a random recorded message or anything. The phone just cuts off and ends the call. I guess the lines are REALLY busy.

GO E-TRAIN!!

Wasn’t his strongest set of performances, but he’s still very deserving of making the final.

I never expected THE MOMENT to come from Kat. Chris maybe or Paris or even Mandisa. And this proves once again how bad I am at song choice. I bow to you Simon. Over the Rainbow was the best song of the evening AND the best performance of the competition.

Taylor was wonderful. You Are So Beautiful was nearly perfect. Dancing in the Dark and Try a Little Tenderness were great(but now I understand why they didn’t want him to sing it during Bocelli week)

I’m sorry E-train. Elliot, while talented, did not deliver tonight as well as Taylor and Kat.

Kat’s “SOmewhere over the Rainbow”, I know you are not a fan dide but the best performance of the night..sorry. I am not a Kat fan either but is was better than any other song tonight.

Night’s summary:

Eliott did not show anything new. Same old singer I can picture singing at a wedding - for 60 year olds.

Kat - forgot the songs but looked good doing it. Can her skirts be any shorter or lower cut?

Taylor - the only one I can see who knows what he is doing. Week-in, Week-out, he is the best. He has a unique sound, is fun to watch and keeps us coming back each week.

If next week’s finale is Eliott and Kat, then I am waiting for House to come on and won’t watch until then.

Yeah! That was fun. Taylor’s going to win, and the race is for second place. There’s no telling who will be there next week with Taylor. I know Katherine did great on a song or two, but I’m just not sure that Chris’ votes will translate to Katherine. I just see all of those people who were voting for Chris either not voting, or voting for another guy. I can only imagine that Chris’ fans aren’t exactly happy with Katherine beating him out. But this was a good show. Loved it. Pure fun…especially Taylor’s last song.

I still can’t believe people see any vocal talent in Taylor the Twitcher. I hope he wins just so I can laugh when he becomes yesterday’s news like the winners in seasons 2 and 3.

BTW: The local Ritchmond, VA phone provider set up special phone banks that will call from other areas north & west of Richmond to allow E-Train folks to avoid phone blockage.

Also: you can’t use online texting to register a vote: you must use the phone or it doesn’t count.

Remember Soul Patrollers: use the 5709 number to call so the DialIdol folks can maximise their software! They didn’t anticipate the 3 numbers move.

And: I understand that Kat didn’t choose the R- Kelly song. The point is her performance would have to overcome the negatives, just as Taylor did singing a song identified with The Boss and broke the 11th AI Commandment - Thou shalt not sing a song that is a signature tune by a known artist.

The difference was he didn’t suck.

Should be Kat going…lyric problems again? We know Taylor is a shoo in…he was magnificent and I haven’t liked him much to date. E-Train was solid all three songs but one song will put Kat in the finale even though her first and last sucked what kind of water is it you always say? I thought she was way too loud and showed zero tenderness or vulnerability when singing Rainbow. But that’s JMO. Jesus Christ indeed Mikey! Idol pimped Kat to the finale.

May 16, 2006 09:27 PM | Link to this

harmony on a break from feverishly text messenging votes for Etrain whew! how do these kids do it?!?!? I’m tired after 20.

To address what some have said about what kind of RECORD these folks will make. Elliot will make the best RECORD (of the 3 left). Kat is made for the stage…Broadway…and that’s NOT a put down. Taylor is made for the stage too….Vegas…the Wayne Newton analogy is a good one. People will PAY to see him perform, night after night. Again not a put down. But Elliot, while I love him…is not a stage performer, but a GREAT vocalist. So IMO He deserves the RECORD contract. Let’s be real…how many of us on here are going to buy tickets to go to the concert when it comes to town. But you will pick up a CD in the store. Elliots will be best (of the remaining 3) now if you want best “sounding” CD out of the 12. The rank is Paris, Mandisa, Elliot, then Chris….though Chris’ CD will be most commercially successful…because there are more rockers than R&B/Soul fans in America.

Back to texting!!!!

So, was Carrie Underwood versatile? I don’t recall her venturing outside the country genre that often. I’ll be very honest, Elliott’s best genre is probably not one I listen to that often, but he’s turned me on to that type of music. I can almost say the same for Carrie last year — not a huge country fan, but she had me liking it. I never got that “wow, I’ve been missing out” feeling when Kat sings. Taylor is entertaining, but he hasn’t turned my head as much as Elliott — he’s sang a lot of popular, catchy songs. Everyone has their own opinion, as well as their favorite singer for whatever reason, but for me, the fact that someone could make my ears perk up and look at a type of music differently than before carries a lot of weight.

Don’t get distracted by DialIdol - they have 2 problems: 1) the software update that came out this week didn’t anticipate the 3 numbers in use, so it’ll miss 33% of the calls. 2) It doesn’t take into account text votes cast. 3) Remember the time difference. Kat’s voters are west coasties, so her votes come in late. That, and phone congestion in the Atlantic phone systems cost Chris last week.

Thanks for the kind comments.

I was a bit disappointed in tonight program. I loved Katherine’s OVer the Rainbow… Hands down the best performance of the evening. All in All the 3 could win, and it would not be a bad choice. Go AI

I absolutely do NOT agree with you, Mike and I’ve got it on tape. The backups were singing the chorus and she didn’t join them when she picked it up, she embellished what they were doing. It was part of the arrangement for the song.

By ptrap

May 16, 2006 09:40 PM | Link to this

Katharine did end up butchering Fly..but didn’t she kind of have something going there, just at the beginning? Her voice sounded different, she was singing deeper than usual and I thought “Hey, Clive schooled her and said Quit with the Screaming”. But then she flubbed and flipped her hair and it was ruined. BUT, but…Somewhere Over the Rainbow almost made me tear up (did anyone see that 2 hr Judy Garland special last night? What timing…what a performer!). I will forgive her the poser-ness on the floor. She paid homage and wore red shoes. And it was beautiful.

BUT…Taylor sang three solid songs. “Tenderness” was rockin’, and he portrayed all the longing in that song. So even though he isn’t marketable, and he’s kind of weird, and he name-called “Soul Patrol” way too many times (at least he wants to win!) he should win. I hope. Elliot doesnt even factor in because he is one dimensional, albeit a good one dimension, but he sounds the same, no matter what he is singing.

Hey KimmyG!!! Well..have been trying to dial in and get nothing but that annoying enh, enh, enh!!! Will keep tryin. Taylor did aight for himself tonight which I’m surprised to hear myself say. The thing with Katharine’s ear…she began the song acapella (without instruments) and in order to be on pitch when the instruments came in she had a piano playing through the earpiece. She took it out once the instruments started.I ‘ve heard a lot of versions of “somewhere” and that was absolutely one of the very best. It takes much more control to sing a slow song, still, Taylor is my pick. He was awesome. He just makes me smile when I watch him.

Geez, I cant believe how many guys on this board just have the hots for Kat. Her fans are going to have to start being called the boob patrol! No wonder she rolls around on the ground - thats her money shot!

We know Taylor is in for sure.

I thought Elliot had 3 good songs. (Although a couple werent really well known)

Kat had one great song and 2 rotten ones. And she was all talking back and making faces —and I didnt even think they were that hard on her?

So Im not seeing why the judges pretty much assured her a spot in the finals..

YES, Emily!! I would turn up a Taylor song and sing along in the car. But I can assure I would not do that for a Kat or Elliott song. I agree also that Elliott has made me listen to R & B a bit more, but only to see if he is singing it well. He does a good job, but I don’t think R & B is going to make IDOL the money it wants to make. Lets be fare, Chris was the most marketable on the show this year! I don’t feel the any of the final 3 will make the money IDOL hopes they will and I believe Simon knows that out of those 3, Taylor is the most marketable.

kat knows she should have left last week. if she was smart, she should have told chris that she would go home in his place because even she knew she sucked. maybe one of her fans on the blog will open a strip club with a female band that performs topless. that should satisfy the male kat fans.

You can give any calculations you want about dialidol, which is in part correct. Let the facts speak for themselves, dialidol told you Chris was going home last week he did. It said Paris was leaving the week before, she did. Not to mention Kelly Pickler. Something about what they are doing is right. You can not say anything when the FACTS are staring you in the face.

Vin, I recorded it and I too will watch it back. I too thought WTF when she didn’t sing at the beginning of the chorus, and I think it was a misstep. If it wasn’t, it was a very poor decision to let the backup singers carry it into the chorus.

So, IMO, it was either a misstep, or a horrible decision. Either way …

SoulPatrolRockOn…you are wrong. That song, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, is meant to fill you with longing for something you can never have, something out of your reach, and yes indeed, melancholy. And she hit it. It is NOT an uplifting song. You are confusing the song with the movie.

Boy, Mike S is drinking the Paula Kool-Aid tonight! Hope you arent’ driving buddy… Kat and Taylor OWNED the night…the E-train barely left the station (and only on the Bobby Caldwell tune, which I like but it sold, what? 200 copies???) Frankly yes, Chris should have been there tonight, in place of Elliott. But for all you whiners….did you vote for Chris last week? He seems to feel everyone just assumed he was a shoe in and passed on voting. Katharine had to bring it tonight….she was down 6 games to 5 and her back was against the wall. A must-win situation if you will. And she hit it out of the park. It is a simple as that. Will she win next week??? I don’t know…but don’t count her out since she tied it up tonight.

I thought that Taylor won the night. He sounded really good on You Are So Beautiful. I didn’t enjoy the Springsteen song too much. Try A Little Tenderness started off shaky but he ended it well. Elliott was good. Not great, just good. I enjoyed Open Arms. I thought he was vocally very good, but he held back. What You Won’t Do was good as well. It was my favorite performance from him. The last song was alright. It was…..different. Kat. Kat. Kat. Where to start. She butchered I Believe I Can Fly. Totally the wrong song for her. She redeemed herself with Somewhere Over The Rainbow. I was pleasantly surprised. But she is no Ella and didn’t do the song any justice. Based on the night, she should be going home, but we all know the West Coast is going to bring it home for her and Elliott is going home.

I’ve watched it twice now, Vin to make sure I wasn’t messing up. She doesn’t miss the lyric at all. She is following what is obviously the arrangement of the song. I thought this song was a mistake from the beginning and she didn’t sing it all that well but she did not miss the lyric.

RANKING BY SONG : 1. Taylor - Dancing in the Dark 2. Elliot - Open Arms 3. Kat - Somewhere over the Rainbow. 4. Taylor - Try a Little Tenderness 5. Elliot - What You Won’t Do For Love 6. Kat - I Ain’t Got Nothing But The Blues 7. Taylor - You are So Beautiful 8. Kat - I Believe I can Fly 9. Elliot - I Believe to My Soul

Overall ranking: Taylor, Kat, Elliot I loved all three of Clive’s choices. I liked all three of the judge’s choices, with Taylor’s being my least favorite because I have never liked Joe Cocker. I disliked Elliot’s personal choice, mostly because I was not familiar with it and it sounds like every other song he has sung with the exception of Open Arms. I liked Kat’s song, but I would rather have heard her sing something more fun.

Taylor did well on all 3 songs, so I put him at #1 tonight.

Kat did well on her second and third songs, so I put her at #2.

Elliot did well only on his second song, so I put him at #3.

Taylor and Kat were clearly better than Elliot tonight. Elliot is a nice guy and a good singer who had a great week last week, but he is out of his league now. Even though Chris should be here instead of her, Kat definitely redeemed herself this week.

It looks like Taylor and Kat in the finals with Taylor probably winning it all.

By Mike S

OKAy. Kat and Elliot are in a dead tie on Dial Idol — which means KAT stays and Elliot goes Home.

KAT will pick up tons of votes from the west coast, and also from the braindead teen girls texting thier butts off for her.

So, anyone who wants Elliot over Kat needs to vote thier a* off the next hour. But to be honest I don’t think it will make a difference. Still I will ride the E-train for the next hour.

Kat has had trainwreck performances for three weeks in a row — and she either missedher lyrics again (which I think) or put together a moronic arrangement on the chorus of that song (Deirdre’s position). She does not deserve to be in the finals, but she probably will be.

That will cinch a Taylor victory in my opinion. Almost 100% of Elliots fans will vote for Taylor next week.

I have never voted for Taylor, but I would not be upset if he won. I like his voice, his style of music, and his general attitude. While he is not the best singer, he has the best overall package. That is why he will probably win.

I have voted for Kat (not last week though), and except for the Elvis week, I think she has been the second best singer behind Chris the whole competition. With Chris out, she is the best singer left. It is a long shot, but she needs to pull of the performance of her life next week to beat Taylor. I hope the fans who always vote for Taylor will give her a fair shot next week, and if truly does a better job than Taylor, I hope they will vote for her.

My view of the night and I have no dog in this hunt since Chris is gone.

Taylor wins the night because of performance value and You are so Beautiful, however he should be kicked off the show for saying Soul Patrol approx. 15 times during the night. Kat is a very close second to Taylor. The ETrain has had on collision with Katherine’s puppies and they knocked him off the tracks.

I am sick of all the oldies on this show.

  1. Kat Over the Rainbow By far the best song of the night and probably the year. Absolutely beautiful. She didn’t over sing it.

  2. Taylor You are so Beautiful Very nice, best song for him of the year.

  3. Taylor Try a Little Tenderness Notice the judges praised his performance with this song. Excellent performance but the vocal was not that good. Performance was so good as usual if you don’t really listen you can’t notice his faults.

  4. Kat I believe I can fly She did not forget the lyrics. She changed the song up so unlike Elliot and Taylor she actually made a song her own instead of singing exactly like the original (karoke). For that she gets lot of points.

  5. Elliot What you won’t do for Love This is Elliot’s element and it showed. Good job by him but nothing spectacular. Kinda boring song

  6. Elliot I believe to my soul. No nothing about this song. Thought he did pretty good though but as the judges said way to obscure

  7. Kat I ain’t go nothing but the blues Fun performance but after the Rainbow song it was disappointing.

  8. Taylor Dancing in the Dark Bruce will NEVER EVER release another song to Idol. As Simon said he was no where near the original. If you pick a song like this you better bring and he didn’t. He sounded physically sick to me on the song. Shows he is a one trick pony and can only sing the Joe Crocker, Ray Charles, Stevie type of music.

  9. elliot Open Arms Sorry folks this song finally showed America he is just like Taylor. Very narrowly focused on one type of music. Folks this was vocally very bad and I am sure Journey is not happy at all. I would have loved to have heard Chris sing this song. He would have brought down the house.

America really robbed us from our Chris/Taylor showdown and it really showed tonight.

I have to say that this is going to be my last post. I’m tired of reading the posts from people who are so bitter and cold and sad in their lives that they have to make fun of people and ridicule three people who’s spit is now worth more than the people’s lives who are treating them so unkindly. These posts are for people to bring out the worst…in themselves. They’ve found a way to hurt other people while making themselves feel better because their lives are so sad and useless. On my last comment, though, KAT said in an earlier post that we lost the “real” star somewhere along the way, and I agree. Although I think Taylor should be in the final two, I believe there are a couple of other people who should have had the opportunity…Mandisa…Paris…and believe it or not, Melissa Mcgee should have stuck around longer. It’s been a good season, and I’ve enjoyed it. It’s amazing to me that so many people, who post, can be so negative about the show…so terribly negative…but they continue to watch it. Signing off…TY

Ok, not that it matters or anything, but just wanted to mention…

I checked the site “vote for the worst” just b/c I was curious as to what they were up to. It looks like they’re asking people to vote for Taylor, as he is apparantly their least favorite. I’m not sure if it has any influence or not, but with him getting through each round, it could be working. Also, I looked at dialidol.com and practically every week, Taylor has been #1 in vote getters (except maybe the week Chris and Kat were the front runners). Just letting you people know so you can take it all in. Like I said, I’m not sure if it influences people or makes people mad enough to vote for him b/c they think he’s good. But it’s still kind of weird. I’ve personally never voted for the guy, I think he’s odd. But then again, I’m not America.

I was not impressed at all tonight with anyone song. I can’t stand “Over The Rainbow” its a boring song. And I got bored listening to Kat sing it. As far as “Try a Little Tendeness” and “You are So Beautiful” needed a cup of coffee to stay awake that’s how bored I got listeneing to those two songs. Sick of hearing Soul Patrol. Elliott has the best voice of the three period. I’m sure he’ll be going home can’t compete with Catwoman or Mr. Soul Patrol. But, in all honesty I have not been impressed with AI this season. Season 2 was the best and NO ONE CAN TOUCH CLAY AKIN PERIOD !!! The only reason I continued to watch AI was because I enjoyed hearing Elliott. Last week showed NO ONE IS SAFE.

Kat missed the line or not, that didn’t work and I agree with those that said that “Over the Rainbow” rendition was not that great. Taylor won all 3 rounds. Elliot did better on his second song. It is only a small fraction of votes between Kat and Elliot, so Dialidol will have it right either way. If I were Taylor I would hope to lose. Who wants to win because the best, or so some thought, is no longer competing? Also Clive told Elliot “for tonight” when Elliot said what apleasure it was to work with him (or something like that) and to Kat Clive said “when we record together”. Wow! Clive is not going ot record Elliot anytime soon.

Let’s see if I continue my tremendous run of picking, not the season winner, but the season runner-up.

Season 1: I picked Justin around the round of 32 to win. Well he came in the runner-up to Kelly. I have no problem with Kelly…she was the best choice.

Season 2: Very early on I picked Clay to win it all. Oh well, I was wrong again…got the runner-up again. But he should’ve won over Reuben.

Season 3: BINGO! In what is probably the most boring season, I picked Fantasia when we got to the final 12. She actually won…but looked at the final, she was up again Diana…not much of a competition. Fantasia doing the Janis Joplin-esque version of “Summertime” from Porgy & Bess was one of the all-time highlights of AI.

Season 4: I picked Bo Bice right around the second round to win it all. And once again….I WAS WRONG! In my honest opinion, he was ten times better singer than Carrie ever was or will be.

Season 5: I loved Taylor ever since his first audition. So he is not the best-best singer…but I love his soul-ful voice and have been pulling for him every week. I hope he wins…but knowing my knack for picking, he’ll get through this week and end up being runner-up. The only other person that I would’ve been fine with winning would’ve been Chris…but of course he is gone.

Unless VotefortheWorst is having an impact, I don’t understand the Taylor thing. He’s sings a little better than Joe Cocker, but who doesn’t? He dances like an epileptic.

Watching Taylor perform Dancing in the Dark took me back. That song used to be my cut back in the day. I found myself dancing around the room. My family could not understand how that song could make a black woman get up and dance. Ameircan Idol should skip the finale and just give Taylor the title. Not becuase he’s that good, but becuase he’s heads and shoulders above the rest. It was a hyperbole when the judgs said Katharine’s performance of Somehwere over the rainbow was the best this season!

I have CC and I do not think Kat missed any lyric, but then cc is not always accurate, but it gets the Sounds and I got a brand NEW digital hearing AID yesterday and Elliott sounded ok on Open Arms, but was terrible, as usual, on the others. He is in a bubble, I like him, but there is NO train, sorry and for those that don’t like Taylor’s antics/dancing - just close your eyes and LISTEN, he is wonderful. I happen to also like his moves, as he is FEELING it. When Kat gets control of her beautiful voice, she will top out, but for now, Taylor Hicks IS your American Idol!!!!!

SOUL PATROL….PUHLEEEEEEZE!. What a total cornball, Taylor annoyed the heck out of everyone in my house last night. As usual, every one of his songs sounded the same, and of course not lacking his usual seizure episodes in each song (that guy may need to see a doctor soon) Kat was good in Rainbow, but that’s about it, she’s theatre material, very good Broadway type. I’m still pulling for Elliott….with the proper accoustics, music, etc, he’d sound fabulous in a recording studio and then on a CD. The AI band does not do him justice, always drown him out. It’s anyone’s to lose at this point, but if Elliott goes tonight, I really couldn’t care less who wins.

Kat! You’re back! Where you been, girl? I don’t care what anyone says, she was perfect on her third song…well, 95%, since she does have that annoying, small-town news anchor tendency to smile through sad lyrics. But the voice was totally there. Forgetting or changing lyrics doesn’t bother me much, since you can always say it was creative license. As long as they don’t stop dead in the middle of a line “duhhhhhh…” I don’t think anyone’s done that, thank goodness. Elliott was far below what I’ve come to expect from him, which is why he didn’t get my vote tonight. This has been a really interesting season.

Good Morning All…

With family I don’t get on the computer during the evening hours. With 2 teenagers it is hard to get to the computer anyway with all of the MySpace activity. Enjoyed reading the posts though.

I really believe tonight put all three singers in their own group. In Taylor, you have a entertainer that needs to be in great shape if he is going to perform a concert with that level of activity. Personally, it is just annoying. My wife said that if Elliott had just a sample of Taylors performance factor he would win. Taylor is not a great singer. I really didn’t like the performance of You Are… it seemed as though he was constipated….

Elliott…don’t just stand and sing…move around…Also I noticed that the band was outperforming Elliott on his 2nd song. With all of the rehearsals why isn’t this fixed?

Kat had to have a good/great performance to go to the top two. She couldn’t blow it. I don’t believe she did. I think the judges especially Randy and Paula are really pushing Elliott to the dimise of Kat. She had a good night and I thoroughly enjoyed Somewhere…

Who should go home…Elliott. After all the weeks he still doesn’t know how to perform. If he desires to be a night club singer just standing behind a mic he has that nailed down. No arguments about the vocal. He just doesn’t seem to work the crowd into the moment.

Next week will be Kat-Taylor. I don’t know if I would buy either of there CDs. I would more likely buy Elliott’s.

Just my thoughts….

Taylor - awsome. Have been waiting for him to do Joe Cocker, although, that wasn’t the song I would have picked. Delta Lady or A Little Help From My Friends, would have showcased him better.

Kat - being an OTR affecianado (translation: I’m old) her version brought tears to my eyes. I’m sure Judy Garland would have approved.

Elliott - Sorry, have a safe trip home. No matter what, your Mom still loves you and is proud.

Has anyone considered that the band overpowered Elliot because he has no power in his voice? He sings from the throat, not the body. Someone said earlier that all Elliot needs is better acoustics and a sound studio. That is absolutely true, like most singers who are popular today. They don’t actually have a voice that isn’t perfected by the studio. Elliot can certainly sing, he has a lovely voice but he has nothing behind that voice.

Good morning,everyone.

Good Morning Everyone! Hey Mike – we miss you man!

Last night was very interesting. I loved it when Taylor made Paula get up and dance with him. I really didn’t like You Are So Beautiful, but I have never been crazy about that song.

Elliot did mess up the lyrics to Open Arms, but no one really noticed – that shows his professionalism. Unlike Kat who turned her back on the audience last week when she forgot her words. And she’s been doing this for years, supposedly.

And speaking of Kat – I thought she sounded pretty bad on all three songs. I guess ‘Rainbow’ was her best, but it was only tolerable to me.

Sad to say it, but I think the E-Train may be headed for home tonight. But I’ll be pulling for him to the end.

Can someone answer a question for me? What makes Kat so special that she thinks the judges aren’t allowed to criticize her? No one else complained when Simon came down hard on them week after week (remember Bucky?) I hope this is the end of the road for Conceited Kat. What happened to the humble girl from the auditions? Oh well, Taylor is the next American Idol anyway. His last performance solidified his win…

Mornings blawgers and blawgettes! Taylor was the best over all last night. Deirdre is correct - Elliott just doesn’t have the power for “What You Won’t Do.” Half-way through the show I realized I don’t really care now that Chris is gone. Mikki…while I am no music expert I think that Randy and Paula have been a little hard on Kat. Going after song choice when she didn’t pick the song is ridiculous. I can hear big flops but when I hear “pitchy” sometimes I have to scratch my head. Take the example of a few weeks ago the judges had to apologize. I think she is not conceited but more fed up with the criticism.

Let’s face it…regardless of whether you like him or not Simon usually provides the most true remarks. Paula provides the worst critiques. Randy only really has a couple of responses but without any real feedback.

There are songs where I enjoyed that they criticized and then there are songs that I didn’t like that they praise. I did not like Taylor’s version of You are So Beautiful. He looked like he was in pain! The song did nothing for me but the judges praised it as one of his best performances. This left me scratching my head…

Just my opinion…geo

Morning Yo. Glad you decided to step in to comment. O.k. everyone, so I was disappointed in my man Elliott. He just didn’t shine last night. I must say I was impressed with Taylor last night and definitely think that he sang his way right into the finals. Other than Kat’s “Over the Rainbow” performance, which I thought was good, the other two songs didn’t do it for me. So, I guess I was wrong. Based on last night, Kat deserves that second spot in the finals with Elliott going home. I didn’t even vote for him because I said I would be true to myself and vote the best through. Well I voted for Taylor a few times and only voted for Kat one time for “over the rainbow”. Sorry, E-trainers, he just didn’t do it for me last night.

KAT all the way! When Elliott sings I cannot pay attention, he is soooo boring! Taylor is entertaining, but he looked like he either had gas or had been sucking on a lemon while he was singing. I listen when Kat sings, she is entertaining and memorable, and I love her voice. She’s an amateur, needs some fine tuning, sure, but she’s by far the best offering for American Idol. Go Kat!!!!

Hey Shay. It’s funny how we all hear different things when it comes to this show.

I thought Elliott was pretty good last night and that Katharine was close to bad on two songs and just okay on one. And Taylor (bless his heart) just wins me over with his personality. His vocals weren’t great, but he made me smile.

I hope Kat is the one who goes home tonight.

Everyone thinks the judges are ‘pimping’ Kat, yet she has received an abundant amount of criticism…some of it deserved. Randy’s comment that I Believe I Can Fly was a poor song choice was absolutely inane! If the girl can’t defend herself, she certainly isn’t going to make it in the business. Does anyone out there remember when Chris tried to argue with Simon? Did anyone see that as him being spoiled and whiny? Kevin Covais shot a comment at Simon and everybody thought he was being brave and resilient. Double standards! If you like a singer, anything he/she does is ok…if you don’t, then that singer is whiny, flat, pitchy, spoiled, whatever. Most of us hate the Yankees because they beat the Braves all the time. That doesn’t make the Yankees a bad baseball team.

Mikki…I agree that Katherine has had some of the worst performances and I really don’t see a pop star out of her. In fact, one of the biggest complaints about Parris is that she didn’t let people see the real her. While we know what albums Taylor and Elliott would release Katherine is just confusing.

Katherine reminds me of the cabaret type of singer. Also, regarding clothing on her last song didn’t her outfit not match the song? I would have like to seen a long evening type gown which would have really matched the sultriness.

Elliott hopefully will no longer be around when the results are announced. He has long overstayed his welcome and last night proved the point. Babs and other Chris fans, open up your eyes, Chris is not there any more because his fans let him down by not voting, you cannot assume some one will win and thats what happen, even he said that, so stop and suck it up.They all did good last night,Randy&Paula are critical of Kat, she has a beautiful voice, andthe song was picked by Mr. Davis and he told her to make it hers. Taylor acts like he is pain all the time, hate to watch him perform. Think it will be Kat and Taylor in the finals. What is Paula taking? Simon is the honest judge on the show…..Will see everyone..Its just a show…..And ladies that are jealous of Kat because she is pretty and sexy, judge her on her talent, listen to her voice, she is not conceited probably just frustrated…..

Morning Shaun. Mikki, although that is what the show is supposed to be targeted at, you have America voting, not the show. So people are going to pick their favorites. And no, we don’t have the best three singers throughout the entire competition up on that stage this week but this is who America has chosen as their top 3 based on voice, personality, looks, and entertainment. Its just like the industry itself. You wonder how some of these people even got a record deal, let alone able to make a whole album. People have different likes and dislikes. It kind of sucks some time but that’s just how it is.

My problem with Elliiott last night was his song choice on the last song. At this point in the competition, pick a song that everyone knows and can relate to. You have the voice and talent, so use it. To me, that song was not a good choice.

The point of American Idol is to increase ratings for the network that carries the show, and that can be done by creating controversy and drawing attention to the show. It doesn’t matter if it’s negative or positive as long as people watch.

I hope it is Kat and Taylor in the finals. Did anyone think Clive gave Elliot a song to fit his voice and Kat and Taylor songs that were not the most fitting for their voices? I thought he was trying to make it smooth sailing for Elliot there.

As far as Taylor goes, I like him a lot, but I thought he should have chosen “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” Over that song he chose by Otis Redding. The one he chose I thought was dull for his voice.

Taylor is definetly the best of what is left. Ya’ll worry about what kind of record he would make but it is not really up to him. Whoever wins will be told what to record and how by AI. That’s why Reuben only had two good songs as far as I am concerned on his AI album(How can you mend a broken heart and Flying without wings). That’s caused they tried to market him as hip-hop and not the great ballad singer he is, i.e. in the mold of Luther Vandross. That is also why his gospel album was superior to Soulful.

Ranking for the nite:

  1. Taylor
  2. Kat
  3. Elliot(Sorry, he still has to learn how to put emotions into his singing).

A co-worker just made a good point. We’re wondering how so many people can vote for and think that Taylor is Idol material. The fact is, he really isn’t as far as singing is concerned. He’s “likable”, plus the biggie, he zero’s right in to his fans, the “soul patrol”, and personally addresses them every week (over & over & over again)….so everytime he spins his fist and chants “soul patrol”, all of those people are thinking “oh my gosh, he’s talking directly to ME, because I’m part of the soul patrol….I must call quick and cast my vote”. Morning, all….you know I was just thinking about something as I read the blog. What’s up with Kat having an EARPIECE to hear the right pitch on her acapella version. Isn’t that a bit like cheating. The whole point of singing acapella is to WOW people with your voice AND your ability to STAY ON PITCH without accompaniment!(sp) Don’t know…but I don’t think Bo had an earpiece when he sang THE WHOLE SONG last year acapella. That’s why the auditions are acapella….to see if the people really have the talent. If Kat has been having pitch problems all along (she has) then allowing her to sing acapella with an earpiece to guide is unfair. She should have just left the acapella part out and sung the whole song with the band. sigh….the things they will do to get that girl to the finale for the sake of marketability.

You know, guys, Clive could have told all 3 of the contestants that he looked forward to working with them but we only heard the comment he made to Kat. It’s called editing. They picked out what they thought was most important about Clive’s song choice and let us see that.

I absolutely agree that Taylor will win. He has managed to ignite a spark in people that none of the other contestants have. He is energetic and fun on stage and has proven himself to be a true performer. Is he a better singer than either Kat or Elliot? No, but he is a better performer. I don’t think he will be AI’s best Idol but he will, without a doubt, be their most interesting and entertaining idol.

I totally agree with Cali about Katherine and her snotty attitude. She thinks she’s the best thing around. I would never buy her CD. On the other hand, Carrie Underwood seemed to accept criticism from all judges last year and tried to use it wisely. Katherine on the other hand cannot hold a long note the way Carrie did. Katherine’s attitude turns me against her. I love Taylor and Elliott and would love to see it down to the wire with them. They are all so talented and I wish I could only sing a little bit.

Taylor Hicks owned the night. That much is for sure.

Its also plain why Simon rigged last weeks vote, he wanted McFREEZE to sing Over The Rainbow ala HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR PRESIDENT …

Eliot gave it away on his final song. he never got that people have to know and have some attachment to what these guys sing in order to get votes.

Yea Shaun … I ain’t sayin I don’t like E- train…he’s great IMO and he’s the guy I’d pick for the underdog factor…but on the Bobby Caldwell song I loved the beginning…the song gave a great 1st impression but in the whole chorus E oversang and he was sharp about half way through the thing….Randy even commented on it. The song went south for me in a hurry……E certainly has the most soulful voice and prob feels R&B better but I think T is the better over all package…..

Sometimes I wonder if y’all are watching and listening to the same show that I am? Katherine’s “version” of Fly was so awful, it was painful to my ears. I am not sure if she messed up the lyrics or it was planned out that way, but it made it seem awkward, so the wrong move. Her version of OTR really pained me. That is a good song, and for me, she ruined it. It was sharp, it was whiney, and why do you have to sing from the floor? Even sitting on the steps would have been better. And could they PLEASE quit showing her dad crying in the audience - so creepy! And her last song - “I don’t want to be compared to anyone”, so I am gonna pick a song I don’t really have to sing….whatever, she should have been gone 3 weeks ago - time for her to go NOW!

Elliott did not bring it last night either. While he sounded ok on some of his stuff, I just don’t see how he tried to be the winner. His confidence level was really low last night and you could tell. He may have messed the lyrics to Open Arms, but he recovered without too many people being able to tell - like turning your back to the audience, right Katharine?

Taylor really brought it with his songs last night. While his movements and soul patrol spouting can really get to people, it also really gets to his core fans. The boy can sing, but just like certain styles, not everyone thinks this. Like with Fantasia - so many people love her and her voice, to me, HORRIBLE…. So, Try a Little Tenderness made it into the show and I think he did a great job.

If Katharine goes on to next week, I wouldn’t be shocked - come on, she had the puppies out, the floor show, and stripper boots……but in the end, Taylor should win!

I think Kat has been there long enough. I hope she goes home tonight. For me, none of the songs she sang last night were that great. Taylor is going to win but I sure would like to see Taylor and Elliot finish. At least you can tell what kind of music Taylor and Elliot would record after AI with Kat it is hard to tell. I just don’t like her and she does to seem to have this attitude about her.

I really enjoyed the show last night - Kat singing Over the Rainbow was beautiful - she seems to lack alot of confidence though and always looking for acceptance. She tries hard to look confident with that big beautiful smile but it does not work.

Loved Taylor - loved everything last night - faces and all - gotta make those faces to sing that music - think of Joe Cocker, Ray Charles etc. :)

Elliot was good last night - last song was not a good idea though as no one new the song. I would think it is going to be a close one between Elliot and Kat tonight!

What are the polls saying?

OK, on the a capella thing. Bo sang the entire song a capella, therefore he could start out in ANY key he wanted and be secure that he would stay there for the entire song.
Kat only sang the first few bars a capella and was then joined by the band. She HAD to start in the key that the band would be playing! Unless you have perfect pitch, something very rare and wonderful, nobody could have landed on the right note without a help. For all you know, all she got was one note from a piano before she started to sing. You guys are proving my point, leaping on every little thing including how much you hate her personality.

Sometimes I wonder if y’all are watching and listening to the same show that I am?

Lara, this is not directed to just you but, people kill me how they past judgement on other people. Kat did a good job with “Over the Rainbow” IMO. Stop trying to pick out flaws in the song. She did good. End of story. No, she didn’t do as great of a job on the others, but who cares. So what she had her breast out, so what she had on black boots, so what she was on the floor. That’s what she chose to do. Just because, YOU, don’t like a certain style does not mean it is the wrong style. Some people like Fantasia, some don’t. But enough liked her to win the competition. You don’t have to buy these people’s albums if you don’t want to. It’s not like we are choosing our next president to run the country. It’s a singing competition for God’s sake. As it has been stated before, AI does not care who wins. Up until this point, they have made their money off of ratings, commercials, etc and that’s ALL they care about. Mickey Mouse could win and they wouldn’t care. No, they are not fixing the results. You have your own mind, your own phone, and your own fingers. Vote for who YOU think is the best and be able to accept it if your favorite does not win.

My Fellow Bloggers(Holding up two peace signs aka Richard Nixon hee hee)I come yet again in Peace(So I dont expect an Air Raid!) I have been TELLING you all from day 1 this season, My Soul Man Taylor is an Entertainer! But some of U haters are just to blind, deaf, and Stubborn to see. Welllll, LAST NIGHT Proved what I been saying all Along. The MOST Entertaining of the Trio was of course, Taylor. And yes he had Me dancing of the Bruce Springtein selecton. I felt the vocal range was good.(Only Bruce can do Bruce, Vocally, no suprise there)but he pulled it off. I even copied a few of his steps Hee hee)Imagine me a Black Guy dancing like a White Boy with Soul! aka Carlton from Fresh Prince LOL)I was just smiling and doing the Knock knee dance that is a signiture of Taylor! It was so Much Fun! The guy makes my Heart Smile Like Garfield the Cat! You are So Beautiful. I actually enjoyed better then Joe Cocker(Whos as far as I am concerned Isent One of my Favorite Talent Singers AnyWay..sooo I felt he did justice to the song, sang it Very Well. and Was More Soulful then Joe..especially when he adlibs, oohs and ahhhs.. I was like Oooewwwwwwwww! LOL LOL. I was captivated. And he had Such a Serious LOOK on his FAce which was an A plus right there. I had never seen him look so serious. it was very Believeable. and of course the Burner of the night was Try a Little Tenderness. That Sealed the Show. As far as I am concerned they could have Crowned him last night, forget about next week. Elliot..perfect song..What you wont do for love. something I suggested weeks ago. But he kind of disappointed me..His vocals were Weak and I KNOW he could have Really Worked that Song if he had Put ALL of his Soul in it. Unfortunately he fell a little flat on certain Notes I know He could have Commanded, Poor Elly :-( I think he sealed his fate last night. His other two songs, left me limp(a male term)but from a male stand point.he didnt look as troll-ish last night. Actually, with the exception of his grill(street term for teeth) he didnt look half bad.:-/ but unfortunately I believe those songs..will send him packing tonight. Kat. the first song was awful(I mean R kelly WORKED that song Vocally) She couldnt do anything with it. bad choice Clive. Over the Rainbow, I actually thought she sound Really Good at the End of the song..the last note..her Pretty Eyes, bending back her head, it was Special(to me)But for that moment alone. It was Her best Performance for me. Kind of like What Summertime did for Fantasia..Only thing is..I am afraid its a little TOO late for her at this stage. I feel she should have Did Over the Rainbow Weeks ago..and even tackled Summertime. That is her Element. she did sound very classy(forget about the LOOKS Paula and Randy this aint Americas Top Model)She didnt belt or shout or over sing..I actually enjoyed her version(shes no Judy Garland, but who is?)she is prettier then Judy ever was though(had to throw that in, though it has nothing to do with her vocals). As to who is going home tonight..I can definately say who is Staying..and who was the overall best last night with all 3 songs a hit. Taylor. As to who leaves..I dont know anymore. but if I had to guess..based on last night..its very possible Elliot may get the boot. he didnt deliver last night..and unfortunately..He Really Could have, because he is a better singer then Kat and Taylor, but Taylor is a better Performer then both Kat and Elliot.

Thanks Jex! I was wondering if it was just me. As for the ear mike - a lot of singers use that to help them keep up with the band. Since she was singing without them at first, it could have been used to help her know when they were coming in, so that she stayed in time. Something used by a lot of people in stage, sometimes it is hard to hear the band, and even yourself. I think that even if she used it only for that or tone, she should have left it in. It seemed that she went downhill after that - my opinion - and went really flat and toneless. Plus, it made people talk - why give them another reason to criticize you? Oh wait, I am not a Katharine fan, why am I defending her?? LOL

By RC

D,

I agree on Kat…..for the most part…people love to hate on her when in reality all she needs is a bit more vocal training and Clive can see that she gets it. She closes off when he goes high unless she is singing in falsetto….she needs to exercise her voice more and learn to open up the right way…..after that, watch out! She’s got the rest of it down!!

AMEN, Alan, AMEN!! Kat is a lot more marketable but she’s not going to win AI because the odds are that it’s a guy’s turn to hoist the banner. Too bad that the mediocre one trick pony will have the honor. I hope the “soul patrol” will buy his product—I won’t.

Am I alone or did anyone else think that Kat’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow was average at best? I just feel that over the last few weeks she has shown herself to be a mediocre singer who relies on gimmicks and sex-appeal… am I totally off base?

Now to defend Taylor…..I think there are loads of performers out there who would be happy to tour with Taylor. He is unique, energetic, soulful, entertaining, energetic, interesting, (did I say energetic?) I like his voice. Is it perfect…not by a long shot. There were lots of singers in this competition who had better voices..Mandisa, Melissa, Paris, Chris, Kat and Elliot all have better vocal range and tone but, Taylor sells a song better than any of them. He connects with the audience better than any of them. He is not a singer’s singer. he is an audience’s singer. He Connects…None of the others can claim that prize.

‘Morning Blawgpound!!!!

I missed a couple of spots last night. But from what I saw, I was heart-broken because my sweet Elliott didn’t step his game up. He was just alright. I’m not sure who stated it, but it’s very true that he sings from his throat instead of his diaphram. I guess the vocal coach didn’t teach him that. Heck, I learned that in music class in the 5th grade. But hey…considering no one, especially his mother, didn’t know the boy could sing until he auditioned; he’s doing pretty well for himself. A little more training & the boy will be phenomenal!!

Taylor was truly on it last night. His vocal were great. He was truly in his element. He was a true shining star.

For me, Kat was just alright last night. I was never a fan of hers, but I will give credit were credit is do. On “I Believe I Can Fly,” she started out rough but around the middle & towards the end, it got better. I missed the other performances. But from what I understand, they were okay. However, it seems she pulled it off for final 2.

aww come on, D….I don’t hate the girl personally….I just think they are keeping her there intentionally because she the most marketable. But if all AI is going to go by is the industry’s narrow standard of marketability, then they should have canned the whole concept.

The point is you’re not gonna find many Christine Agiuleras or Alicia Keys in nowhere America….folks who have the “looks”, talent and stage presence. If they had all that…they’d be pounding the pavement in Hollywood or NYC already. Which is why all of the singers who NEEDED AI have had a little something about them that made them deficient. Take your pick….Justin, Clay, Rueben, Diana, Fantasia….now Taylor & Elliot. As I’ve said before…Kat doesn’t need Idol to be successful…she’s born for Broadway (and will be GOOD at it). Chris doesn’t NEED Idol to be successful. Paris doesn’t NEED Idol to be successful. Did it help all of them, yes? But they didn’t NEED it. Taylor NEEDS the AI title/exposure for folks to take him seriously. Elliot would NEED the AI title/exposure to get people to listen to how good his vocal quality is (and get past his looks). Kat, being from La-la land, would have been just fine leaving 3-4 weeks ago when she STARTED bombing on songs. What frustrates me is week after week, she’s been given a pass through to the next round over someone else who NEEDS this competition more than her. Why do you think Simon isn’t picking her to win? Because he knows she’ll be fine with or without Idol.

I’ll repeat something else that has been said. Elliot would make a good IDOL in the truest sense of the word. Someone that kids can look up to who overcame obstacles to achieve. I could almost say the same for Taylor. Picking Kat as a winner just reinforces the stereotypes that the industry ALREADY shoves down our throats. That being a great singer/entertainer is not enough to sell records. That you’ve gotta have “the look”, or you’re nothing. But think about some of the great artists of our time. Not all of them were eye candy! And for some, their “deficiency” combined with their GREAT vocals made them unique and endearing to us. That’s why I can understand Taylor’s appeal….it’s not my cup of tea….but I understand.

I can’t believe the traffic on the earpiece. I believe the Diedre has it correct. First off, singers also need to hear themselves. Have you ever wondered why there are speakers turned at the singers. I believe that she was using the earpiece for feedback.

The problem is the amount of closeups the camera does on Kat. I personally think she should have left it in and not draw attention to herself.

Having an earpiece doesn’t make her any less of a singer. Too much is being made of the earpiece…

Shaun,

Pop singers will tour with just about anyone….that is it’s all about the benjamins…….BTW and lol, you were the one that framed the ‘total package’ argument with looks, stage presence and singing ability……2 out of 3 for T beats 1 of out of 3 for Elloit….I noticed you didn’t comment on E’s stage presence……FWIW I think Taylor could tour or do a duet with most anyone….he being a lot like Chris in that he wouldn’t need a studio computer to enhance his vocals, he’s already has a good vocal quality. I have no idea how T would do success-wise, neither do I Elloit….I suspect the one that ‘could’ have the biggest career would be Kat…

Harmony, the powers that be at Idol DON’T CARE WHO WINS! They do not market the winners any more than they market the losers. That’s why you hardly hear about them until they strike out on their own. Idol makes money from the show, the idol tour and the product promotions. They don’t give a flying fig who wins the thing. They SAY that they are trying to find the next American Idol but they are not. They make their money from the process not from the result!

Hi all! First let me say I love Taylor. But I wish he’d pull up a stool when he’s doing the quiet stuff, cuz he looks like he’s got to pee.

That said, he did the best last night. I think Randy hit it on the head with Kat. She wants to be a great high range singer, and she’s not. There’s nothing wrong with that. She’s got a great blues voice. Elliot’s going home cuz of song choice. He tried to pick another Trouble and it just wasn’t as engaging as Trouble was. Hopefully he’ll get picked up for a jazz/blues album.

How many of you clapped when Kat told Randy “she didn’t pick the song”…classic! Notice they didn’t cut over to Clive’s face when that happened. Note to judges…don’t talk about song choice, when the contestants didn’t choose them. The songs he chose were not happening. Maybe it’s time for him to move to Florida and drive around in a golf cart.

American Idol brings more money to Fox than all of the records and concerts. Think about 45+ million votes. Think about the ratings Idol gets on TV. That is the big money maker. Ads can be charged at higher rates. This is about TV the fact we get to listen to music is just a benefit.

ok RC, you got me. But, the 1 that taylor is lacking is the most important in the music business. Looks! Remember Mandisa? lol. The music industry isnt big on old looking guys or girls. taylor reminds me of Jay leno. looks only become null and void when you are a rapper….remember flava flav?

Wow, are y’all saying I had a ridiculous post because I expressed my opinion? I did state that it was my opinion. I don’t really like Katharine, mainly because I don’t like her style, ala Fantasia (don’t like her style, not comparing styles). But that is what makes this country great, right, that we can agree to disagree and all have our own opinions. I think it is interesting that it is down to these 3 performers - all good in their own rights. They all have such different styles and personalities, it shows diversity and I think that is a good thing for AI. At this point, you are very right about this, they have made their money - they got the ratings, they already have the downloads….at this point, it really is a no lose situation for the producers of the show. I wish all the contestants good luck, but IMHO (in my humble opinion) Taylor has it in the bag!!

Hey - how was the voting for everyone last night? I was able to get through a few times on Taylor’s 3rd number.

HARMONY said: Picking Kat as a winner just reinforces the stereotypes that the industry ALREADY shoves down our throats. That being a great singer/entertainer is not enough to sell records. That you’ve gotta have “the look”, or you’re nothing.

Perfectly written, and oh so true.

American Mother - you are correct in saying Fantasia is a touchy subject. For some reason a lot of you love to bash her character and criticize her singing, but if you’re honest with yourselves you would realize that NO ONE has EVER topped her “Summertime” moment on AI. Therefore, if that performance was ranked the highest ever on AI then the girl must be awesome. Stop hating and give her props.

As for this year’s winner it will probably be Taylor. I would love for Elliot to win but it’s just not happening. Clive should have given “I Believe I Can Fly” to Elliott. And why the h#%% did Paula pick that weak song for Elliott’s second choice? I’m sure Kat will win second place but her thing is definitely Broadway. That’s her element and that’s what she should pursue.

P.S. My ANTM watchers: Who do you think will take it? I hope Danielle but it’s going to be a very close call.

Deirdre, don’t get it twisted…ever noticed at the end of the show that it is produced by 19 entertainment? Do you know who gets the MANAGEMENT contract of the artist who wins? 19 entertainment The producers of Idol have a BIG stake in who wins. You’re right they make a boatload of money during the process, too. But don’t believe for a minute they don’t have a vested interest in the winner. Simon Fuller and 19 entertainment have their hands in everything about AI (as they should as the creators) to make as much money as possible. That’s why the contracts are so crazy. That’s why folks like Chris and Paris are gonna have to WAIT until 3 months AFTER the winner’s album is released before you hear ANYTHING from them. damn shame….but that’s the contract that they signed AT AUDITION. So those who believe that TPTB don’t care who wins are very much mistaken. They want to be able to manage someone who is going to make them more money. Sad thing is, they don’t do a very GOOD job of managing/marketing the winner (i.e. Ruben, Fantasia). They really should give that responsibility over to a better company and simply focus on the TV show (which they are good at milking). So until I read that they have changed their contracts with the contestants that gives them their CHOICE of management after winning, you’ll never convince me that the AI producers/creators/powers that be DON’T CARE!

Shaun…..to follow up on the looks factor…..not sure how old you are and I’m not beatin up on you but it seems to me the things that are important in the music industry have changed for the worst in some aspects……. You said looks is important today and true enough you are right but it used to not be that way…..for example just consider the guests AI has had on this year…while Stevie looks OK he ain’t no model….Barry Manilow?? Rod Stewart? I guess Elvis was a ‘looker’ in his day and Bocelli prob was too….but overall the industry seems to have changed to value something that just ain’t that important in music IMO…..seems to me that a good looking artist in the past was an exception and not the rule……I suppose MTV and music dvd’s have had a lot to do with it…….

Thanks Janine. Martha let me Put it to you this Way. You HAVE a couple of Options. If My Post Was too Long, You ever heard of skipping over it? As for the Taylor Being Lame..Thats YOUR Opinion and Opinions is just like an Anus, everyone Got ONE..now my question is, which one are you? Moving right along(with out even breaking my pace) I can think of dozens of songs for My Soul Man and the Next American IDOL hands down, Taylor. Georgia On my Mind, You are So Beautiful, Taking it to the Streets, Born in the USA, Try a little Tenderness, I cant Get NO Satifaction, a Rocking soulful version of I Cant Turn YOU loose(another Otis Redding Classic) Anything By Otis REdding..Lift Us Up where We Belong, Rainy Night In Georgia..man there are so much that this soulful Wonderful white Man can add his flavor too. I am his No.1 Black Fan..I just Love this Man. No one Black or White Makes me smile Like he does! Not even my favorite singer(diana ross) Makes My heart Smile Like Taylor. HE WILL BE Around..Haters EAT CROW!

Lara, your post by far was NOT ridiculous. That’s why I said I wasn’t targeting you. But I do think that people misjudge the contestants, mainly Kat, because of minor things. Her shoes have nothing to do with her performance. Black boots does not mean hooker. I don’t think she makes love to the camera. If she was frowning and looking conceited, then people would be complaining about that too. The poor girl can’t win no matter what.

And to answer your question, I had no trouble voting for Taylor or Katharine but I did wait until the last 30 minutes to vote so who knows. I used the first #. Didn’t even bother to try and vote the first hour.

Absolutely true, harmony but what have they done for any of the idols, winners or losers beyond what they’ve been contracted to do? Nothing. I’m sure they’re hoping that one day they’ll find a true American Idol but they don’t believe they have yet. They didn’t believe in Kelly Clarkson and let her go….big mistake apparently. They never believed in Ruben or Fantasia and they handed Carrie over to a country recording company because they didn’t know what to do with her. Carrie is the ONLY successful Idol still under contract to Idol and they aren’t the one’s handling her career.

Shaun…to answer your question re: the best singer…….I think Kat has the potential to be the best singer….between T and E-train I think it is prob a toss-up….it all comes down to who you feel for me…and to me THAT is the most important part of singing…..how the singer get across the message, or if you can tell he/she is singing from the heart and makes you feel it. Some of it has to do with sincerity, some is believing in yourself…..a good example: I absolutely love BB King. He is not a great singer but I feel him…….anyway all MO and FWIW….

You’re absolutely right, D. They don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to management. I’m glad to hear that they gave Carrie away…that explains something I’ve been trying to figure out…why she is the MOST successful Idol still under contract with them. But guess what? They could just change the contract to begin with to give the winner a choice. Then I would believe that they don’t care who wins.

Another point that I think RC made….FOX makes the loot off of ratings. Who knows how many years AI contracted with FOX to be on the air, and whether they’ve been able to up the ante due to success. But the AI producers do not reap the immediate benefits of high ratings. FOX does. Only during contract renegotiations can 19 entertainment get paid more based on performance. The cast of “FRIENDS” taught us that lesson.

Well blawgpound, I’m out…gotta get to work. I’ll check up on y’all this afternoon! But good conversation, today. Core bloggers coming back…No drama….Hallelujah! harmony dancing

Harmony372, sorry but I still disagree with you. The money is made during the show, not afterwards. And for the record 1000 times, Fantasia has done quite well for herself. You can’t past judgement on music that you don’t listen to. She’s all over the recording industry. Reuben did well in the beginning too. Making the other contestants wait for 3 months before they can put out an album is

1) a benefit of being the winner and getting to put out an album first. Of course everyone of the contestants is going to benefit from the success of the show and the association will help sell records, but that is an BENEFIT for the winner. They need time to actually finish the contest and record the record. It’s not fair to the winner if the others are allowed to go ahead and record. In that case, all the contestants would be trying to get kicked off the show.

2) If and when they make money off of the winner’s album sales, that is just icing on the cake. The show has already been successful, the ratings skyrocketed, and they have ALREADY accomplished what they set out to do, which was to get you, me and the rest to tune in every Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:00 and 9:00 EST to watch their #1 rated show.

Ok, let me spell it out…Taylor is a PERFORMER. He always delivers. You might not agree with his choice/style…but he always entertains! Kat is so busy interjecting all her vocal abilities into one piece that she shows no emotion or personality. Her best performance on AI was last night but she could still have softened the lyrics to add mega personality and power. It’s not just about the voice but the ability to hold an audience with your presentation.

If she ever gets it, she will be one dynamic performer and she won’t be opening the show for anybody!!!! I just don’t think she is mature enough to be the draw right now.

I LOVE KATS DAD! WHAT A FAN!

Elliott is REAL and I bet he and Taylor have mutual respect for each other.

I agree with everything you said, except for one thing… I am Taylor’s #1 Black fan! But seriously, he is a great singer and I believe he will find success. There is so much negative things going on in the world right now, and I haven’t been able to find much to smile about. But Taylor really gives me a good feeling inside. To see someone who is truly happy and excited to do what they love is a blessing. He never frowns or brings negative energy.

I cared. now at a half century years old. Frankly my dear, I dont give a damn. And I am not trying to be smart, rude, or nasty. I LOVE People period. Men, Women, blacks and whites. Fat or Skinny. And I am Crazy about a Good Singer..Black or White, Male or Female. But as for my predictions, Kat will more than likely win. Thanks goodness for the sound effects available in the studios…. Hell, they can even make Lindsey Lohan sing better! The Soul Patrol unfortunately will not last past this show. No one will buy his albums. Good Luck in Vegas, Taylor! As for Elliott, not really sure where you fit in.

I’ve said this before and last night proves it..AGAIN..Elliott is by far the best singer and if this competition were based solely on singing ability/level of difficulty of music, Elliott will win hands down. He’s a “singer’s singer”…Unfortunately for my boy, not everyone knows music. . TAYLOR is the only “total package” that I’ve seen on this competition because he has a decent voice and he is an energetic entertainer. . KAT. Wannabe Diva with no range. I’d rather see Bucky as the American Idol than her, but I have this sinking feeling in my gut that she may win this thing because she has the look. Vocally, she may be the weakest idol. my bad….Shaun, you deserved the props for your comment about the networks. RC, I was agreeing with you mentally about the “looks” factor and got confused….See I REALLY need to go to work! Shay…please refer to shaun’s post about the ratings effect. As for Fantasia…I’m actually a fan of hers. Liked her album and bought it. Didn’t like Rubens and bought that, too. My comment was that their management has been poorly handled. Everyone knows you get 15 seconds of fame and its up to you to extend that. That’s the difference between a one-hit wonder and longevity in the business. 19 entertainment doesn’t do a good job managing ANY of these artists! Winners or non-winners. That’s why I wish they would let loose the stranglehold they put on the contestants and allow them to maximize their own 15 seconds of fame. You’re right Fantasia is doing a lot of things….but they are not keeping her in the media (publicity), same with Ruben, heck….same with Kelly and Clay, initially, until they extricated themselves from 19’s control. IMHO, Bo Bice threw last years competition so he wouldn’t be enslaved to them. And I was happy for it! Carrie is a nice girl with a good voice who was VERY marketable. They got what they wanted….and their doing the same this year with Kat. But as its been said earlier, back in the day (damn…i’m old saying a line like that) your looks were not your selling point. Your voice was! And if AI is truly a singing competition, then let the voices win out! Paris, Chris, Mandisa, Elliot, even Taylor! But these mediocre voices (a la Britney Spears) just because they appeal to the young heterosexual male being given preferential treatment (an earpice to stay on pitch during acapella portion only?!?!) give me a break!

okay calming down i’m really gone this time. I’m the boss but their gonna fire ME! LOL! :o)

And quite frankly, I wouldn’t dismiss the thought of marrying Taylor myself. He’s not bad looking and he would be a blast to hang out with.

I except your apology. I am not angry and can understand why you said what you said. I just wanted to and others to understand that its been soooooo long since a person(male or female) made me smile like Taylor has. I have had some personal down moments in the past month and Taylor kind of makes me forget them for a minute and makes me Smile. Thats all I was trying to convey. Thats why I said I love him. In this world of sometimes saddness. Folks like Taylor is Just what we need, to Lift our Spirits..Even if they are a Little Crazy..LOL..Crazy But FUN! I know his parents and friends are Proud of him..and rightly so. Only thing I wish, I wish I Had the Crazy Talented Energy and ability to Make folks Smile laugh and Jump up and down as this Man..He derserves whatever good things coming to him, and more.

Lots of posts and took me a while to catch up. Some things to comment on.

Fantasia The reason why most people do not see Fantasia as being successful is simply this. You saw her on all the award shows (network Tv) and other places right after she won. Since then, her network TV time has been very limited pretty much only showing up on BET now. Kelly and Carrie (still under AI contract so that helps her) are showing up all over network TV and at various events. Of course Kelly is taking home all of the awards and having No 1’s after No 1’s. If you don’t listen to an R&B station you have no clue she is still on the earth as her music is not crossing over into the pop world. Yes Fantasia can sing but much like Taylor and Elliot her fan base will be very narrow. By the way this is a different alan than posted before. Notice I am alan not Alan

Kat haters Look folks. We all have different tastes. IMO I think the girl can blow. Much like Elliot she just needs some formalized training from the pro’s instead of mommy. Also AI the show helps the contestants with their performances and all of those sultry looks with the camera are rehearsed before the show. They tell you this on AI Extra. The girl has the looks and she shouldn’t be blamed for using it. Just because she is beautiful doesn’t mean she should have to wear none sexy clothes on stage. Ever been in a corporate office lately? The black dress and boots can be seen on probably 1000’s of women today sitting in their office.

Soul Patrol Ok I give the old gray hair credit. He was good last night. To those saying that he will not sale in records, come on, all AI winners have good first album sales. IMO I don’t think we will hear from much after the first album. He’s not R&B, Pop, Rock or Country. Not fitting into any of these molds really limits his success to a Las Vegas style singer which is very respectable and fantastic. He just may be the next Wayne Newton.

Yamins I can see why some people like him. However, his voice is not as strong as Kat’s and like Kat he still needs help. I just don’t think he should have made it this far. I think he should have been voted off the week of the top 5. If i could have voted this year he would have been voted off 7th and that would have left us with Chris, Taylor, Kat, Mandisa, Paris and Melissa as our top 6. Those are the 6 contestants in the final 12 this year that could have done something in the professional world.

IMO the final three this year is the weakest final three of all of the AI’s. Well maybe Season 1 and this year are tied. As whole the top 12 this year were the best but the final 3 somehow got really messed up.

Sorry, life got in the way of my blogging. How dare it!!! When you think about it, 19 Entertainment can pick singers from any of the thousands of auditioners. They don’t have to wait for little ole us to vote. That’s the main reason I believe they don’t care who wins. They’ve got all these people anyway. If they decide to market Chris, they can. If they decide to market ANYBODY who auditioned, they can. They don’t need us to pick an Idol. They need us to keep watching!

Hi Everyone..wow..so much passion running in here today! MSteven…you are beloved my friend. We never know what thoughts you’re going to spread, but we can always be sure to be entertained! :-)

Linny-K..LOL!! wings, gurl, wings. The whole competition simply comes down to majority votes and to get overworked whether one person is better than another really is personal preference. I never saw much in Taylor until last night and I finally let myself enjoy him..I was so blinded by my favortism to Chris that it was easy to be critical of the others. This morning, one of the local radio stations played excerpts from last nights performances and to hear them on the radio was sooo different. Without seeing E-Train? I thought he sounded the best on the radio. But that’s JMO. He really is a funky white boi! :-)

Martha i would hardly call Ruben and Fantasia losers. Unfortunately, Ruben wanted to do gospel and is doing well at it right now. Fatasia’s album was a huge hit and the target audience was appreciative it was not some bubble gum album. She has to be one of, if not, the most vocally gifted winners. Oh yeah, where is the “self-titled” winner Clay?

Ken, Jex, T-Luv: You are all right that Danielle needs speech lessons. When she said “Shut your mouth and say it ain’t so” last week I was screaming with laughter. I still think she should win because she has the best overall look and she needs time to work on her speech, it will be very hard for her to do on her own because to herself she sounds normal. As for Joanie and Jade I think they are two of a kind, the only difference is Jade shows her true colors and Joanie doesn’t. Ever notice how Joanie makes comments about Jade and the girl who left last week when they aren’t around? Danielle just goes with the flow and mixes with all of them.

P.S. If Danielle is voted out 1st tonight, don’t be suprised if Jade takes it. You have to give her credit, if she drops the attitude and hardness she’s scales above Joanie (IMO).

is it me or did it seem like they really wanted Kat to be in the finals. Everyone watching this competition who is not being bias should agree that Elliott is the male’s best vocalist and Paris was best female. Now the songs they pick is another story. The finals should have been Taylor b/c of appeal and Chris because of appeal and talent. Kat should not have made it past no. 5.

Eve, Ken, Jex, Tluv, Danielle has not even tried to change her accent. Tyra would probably take a chance on her if she tried. With every show, Randy and Paula show how really unneeded they are. Between them, they have about 5 different comments they mindlessly rotate out, usually at the wrong time.

On another note, one practical absolute in life you can bank on is that women will always be jealous of other women they perceive are more attractive than they are. Ninety percent of the women who do not like Kat would like her if they perceived that she was uglier than they are.

Ok, I have only seen one episode of ANTM this season. It just happened to be the one where they asked Danielle to get rid of her accent. I’m trying to figure out why. Superman, I agree. Not necessarily talking about the women on this blog, because I only know how a few look, but I do believe that some women tend to be a tad bit jealous of Kat’s assets and only have negative things to say about her when in fact, she is beautiful with a nice voice. Not the best voice, but a nice voice!!!

I didn’t think the show was bad at all. I thought everyone sang really well. I enjoyed most of the songs and was impressed with all three singers. Just because I don’t think Elliot should be in the final two, doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy his performances, i just liked Taylor’s and Kat’s more. I thought they all proved that they belong there. I did miss Chris a lot!

By Eve

May 17, 2006 11:41 AM | Link to this

Shay - I agree totally about ANTM.

Try - Danielle’s accent would be a problem because the winner would be a spokesperson for Covergirl and that person would be seen and heard nationally and therefore would have to appeal to all not just one region (South).

By Jex

May 17, 2006 11:41 AM | Link to this

Try, you may be right. It’s not so much Danielle’s accent that’s the problem, but the tone of her voice along with not enunciating. She even admitted that she cuts her words off at the end.

I think she’s just a little too nasaly (is that a word?). But I think she would be okay if she just worked on her overall verbal communication.

By Try

May 17, 2006 11:45 AM | Link to this

I’m just wondering bc I think it goes back to the old stereotype. If you sound Southern, then you are ignorant. I just think Danielle has some other speech problems other than her accent. That’s the least of her worries.

Whew! I’m back…made it into the office AND got some work done…now back to BLOGGIN’! LOL.

Superman…such a sterotypical statement. Now how would you feel if I said the ONLY reason the guys are voting for Kat is because of her assets. All women are not jealous of Kat. I can appreciate she’s a beautiful girl. Otherwise I couldn’t compliment her potential success on Broadway. But as music purist, I get annoyed by what’s happening in the industry today. Wannabe singers like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, and the other girl…can’t think of her name (recent child actress turned pop singer) who don’t have TALENT but get by on their looks because the fit a mold that the industry believes is the only thing that sells. That’s why I watch AI (only after the dreaded audition weeks), to hear some really good talent that wouldn’t normally be seen on television because they don’t fit the MTV/VH1/BET mold.

I thought it was absolutely adorable when Taylor got Paula to dance on stage via the Dancin in the Dark video. And how apropos.

Think I’ve finally figured out what I don’t like about Katharine and to some extent Taylor and Elliott, too. They approach the songs kinda like a business, rather than understanding and communicating the lyrics and spirit of the song. A good example was Taylor’s Try a Little Tenderness. I did enjoy the performance, but Otis Redding’s version was so much deeper. You really felt like The Big O knew what he was singing about from personal experience. Maybe that’s what lacking… life experience. Anybody else feel that way?

PJ is da house!

Didnt have a chance to blog last night since I was voting for two hours. I voted 3 times for tay tay and many times for elliot. Elliots line was non stop busy for the first hour then about 10:30 or so I got in every few minutes….that has me worried. Especially the DIAL IDOL predictions. Tonight will be a nail biter no doubt. Especially having to wait an hour to find out who gets the boot. I think Kats only good song was Over the RainBow…the rest I didnt like. I dont know if that song will pull her out of the 2 past weeks. I just hope the train keeps rollin till next week. If not my vote is Taylor.

Hello, Jex— i have to agree with you on ANTM If Jade says to the judges one more time “thank you for believing in me” ok that is getting so worn out. Jade is still fake. She does take good photos, however she is really robotic about everything. AI- Taylor is going to be this years winner. I do not believe Kat/Elliott has a strong enough fan base to over take him. If Kat stays or Elliott they are only prolonging their trip home. Taylor will win —

By brownthrasher

May 17, 2006 12:14 PM | Link to this

Based on what I saw and heard last night, Taylor should be this year’s Idol. I was not impressed with Kat and Elliott just doesn’t do it for me but he is very talented and should make it in the record bsuiness. But I wish they would keep Kat off of the floor, it does not become her. I think she is doing a poor imitation of Fantasia’s stellar performance of Sumertime (when she masterfully song it from the floor). I still think this year’s Idol will not hold a candle to the previous winners. The raw talent was voted off much too early in the competition.

By Jex

itsme, I don’t get that from Taylor at all. I think he just has a different way of expressing songs. Otis Redding was a very cool and mellow performer. Taylor is neither - he’s very energetic and animated when he performs. When he sang the lyrics “you’ve got to squeeze her” and he hugged himself and emphasized the squeeze, I felt the hug.

Now your girl Kat on the other hand, has the same expression on her face throughout the entire song of any song she sings. If she sang about her toe falling off, she would have that same sultry look and big smile on her face as she always does. That’s one thing she needs to work on - really feeling and delivering the emotions in her songs. However…I think she’s very pretty and I am NOT jealous.

By Harmony372

May 17, 2006 12:16 PM | Link to this

itsme….I SO feel you on that….if you check the top of the blog I had a FIT at midway through the Otis Redding song. I expected Taylor to do SO much better with that. And while near the end he was entertaining….I missed the FEELING Otis expressed in that song, which I thought Taylor would NAIL dead on. Instead, he seemed to be trying to prove something (probably because they wouldn’t let him sing it earlier in the competition) and it just came across all the wrong way. Entertaining, but not the intent/emotion of the song. There was NO tenderness in his ending. He actually scared me. But my hats off to Taylor, overall…he did what it took to win, unlike my boy Elliot. And now I may have to put up with Katherine in the finale as a result. sigh….I find myself missing Chris, too. and I wasn’t even that big a fan of his

Brownthrasher, that’s exactly what I said out loud when Kat was on the floor..she looked like she was pulling a Fantasia. Of course, no one will ever top that performance. I agree with an earlier post, Fantasia’s Summertime is the epic moment in IDOL history, followed by Constantine’s Bohemian Rhapsody. JMO.

By Jex

itsme and Harmony – I think you’ve got it wrong. Try a Little Tenderness is directed at men. So it shouldn’t really be tender. And at the end when Tay Tay has a fit, it’s like he’s emphasizing the message Try A Little TENDERNESS da**it! I got it.

By Try

ROFL @ Jex. I’m with you on the “Thank you for believe in me” comment. She is soo fake. She only says that because she knows how close she is to going home.

The Danielle accent situation is something I don’t understand. They made provisions for her to close her gap but they didn’t get her a dialect coach. It’s stupid. Overall, Danielle is the best. She has true natural beauty and a great personality. Everyone loves her but they can’t get past the accent. But I’m trying to figure at what point did Tyra or anyone else pull her aside & say “I’m going to help you.”

Shay, Danielle has tried to work on her accent. Even Joanie said she has (you know they’ve become good friends). Unfortuantely, it’s not easy for her to just turn it off & on.

By brownthrasher

May 17, 2006 12:27 PM | Link to this

I had only one other comment … about Fantasia not being a success. It depends on whose eyes you are looking through. If anyone can overcome and abusive relationship, having a child much too soon, not knowing where her next decent meal will come from and maybe even not even knowing how to drive and win a nationally televised competition - I’d say that spells succes. Success is not measured in money or record sales or even popularity. Success is when you can beat the odds and turn a troubled and desperate life into a SMILE. Fantasia’s life stoy will be airedo n Lifetime and Fantasia is playing HERSELF. That’s what I call success and she will remain one of my favorite Idols, regardless of how many records she sells or who her limited audience might be.

I dont Kat performance on the floor was not flattering for her. She has already done the floor performance at least once this year and its getting a little old. It would be great if people could come up with something original and not copy others……I found Taylors You are so Beautiful and awesome song choice. As well as Elliot 2nd song. I was shocked by what Simon said. I didnt think he was going to like it. Simon for the most part is right on the money.

May 17, 2006 12:30 PM | Link to this

brownthrasher….you reminded me of something I thought last night during Kat’s OTR performance. She WAS copying Fantasia…and Bo Bice and Clay, all at once. I remember thinking she took Fantasia’s Summertime (on the floor), Bo’s acapella (damn, what was that song he sang) and Clay’s Solitaire (spotlight shining directly down on her head) to come up with that performance. Now, i think it was good…but a total copycat of staging. Be original!

I do have to agree with the other bloggers regarding the talent level left on AI. I truely believe that previous years have had better talent. The probelm once again is that most of the better singers have been voted off to early. ie … Chris, Mandisa, Paris Chris was the best hope of AI truly having someone to market. Chris however had to much talent to stay under the corny raps of the AI contract. I am very interested to see how Talyor will do with the way AI markets, and produces the AI winner. It will be very interesting to see how they will do with him.

By Deirdre

UUUMMMM! The idols don’t stage their performances. The director does that. If any copying is going on, blame the director. he knows what has worked in the past and uses those ideas again.

By brownthrasher

I think Simon was just trying to make the best of an already messed up situation. He was expecting some others to be in the finals and he is keeping his comments neutral. The only comment that I think he erred on was when he said that Kat’s Rainbow was the best vocal of the night. I disagreed with that. Paula makes me sick with her comments, she needs to go back to the Lakers Cheerleading squad and she never could sing. Randy usually gets it right. Regardless, its all show busines and the only ones who really make money from AI is Simon, since its his baby, and FOX.

One thing about Fantasia’s floor performance vs. Katharine’s – I think Fantasia touched everyone with her song. I was stunned because I am not a fan of hers, but the chile took that song and made it hers!

Kat’s performance on the other hand was debateable - bad for some, ok for a few a good for…maybe two people.

Just like on ANTM, if you’re going to copy someone, you have to do it better than they did or what’s the point?

Mac Music, it will be interesting to see what AI producers do with Taylor…..one thing is for sure, they will market his first cd and it will sell well because of his novelty and personna. doubt it will produce many big commercial hits and i doubt they will keep him around for a second cd. but they will do what they have to do with an “AI winner”.

Taylorhas more energy then my 4 year old…and that’s saying something. Not enough to really pump the night…but enough to get my feet tapping. He is very good at underselling the song, which works well when the others oversell.

Besides, I keep thinking of Simon saying he was frightened of Taylor winning (during the audtions)because the Leno would be interviewing him…..I thought then wouldn’t be great if Taylor won? Simon also told Taylor that Randy and Paula wouldn’t let him in the final 24…is this reverse pschology of some sort? WOOO HOOO….I wanted a Chris/Taylor show down as much as the rest of you. I wanted Chris (who’s records I would buy) to be #2 and Taylor to take it all—-if only to aggravate Simon!

I’m taking wagers that Katherine will have a wardrobe malfunction next week in order to secure her win!!

She can sing and she darn sure looks good, but I wouldn’t watch her in concert or buy her album!! In fact, if she doesn’t win, she should try to get an acting gig first and then release her album. I would definitely watch her on a TV show as long as the puppies were out and about!!

Elliott did not do what he needed to: he needed to blow Taylor and Kat off the stage and he fell short of that. Taylor is entertaining in these 90-second performances, but I sure as shootin’ wouldn’t want to sit through an entire set of him. Taylor is going to win this…it’s a done deal. Just think, he wouldn’t have even been eligible for AI in the prior seasons…talk about carpe diem!!

Good for maybe two people, Jexica? Are you referring to just the people here on the blog cuz I saw 3 judges last night and a whole audience standing up and cheering when Kat finished SOTR. And, even if you are referring to just the people on this blog, there have been a lot more than just 2 of us who thought it was beautifully done. Even some of the die-hard Kat haters have admitted that it was good.

You know, everybody, telling us what’s wrong with the other singers doesn’t do anything to make us like your favorite more. They are all good. Personal preferences! I like Taylor and Kat. You like Elliot and Taylor! Fine! Great! If we all felt the same way this blog would be totally boring. But why do we feel the need to rake the other singers over the coals just to prove that our favorite is better? That never works!

Bottom line..Elliott is gone tonight, Last two Taylor and Kat. Kat takes it all. Although was has been a little pitchy the last two weeks. Throughout the season she has been constantly in the top two. She is beautiful, classy, and has the right package to be the next American Idol… You go girl…

Of course they have input, Harmony(I like butting heads and I like you, too) but they don’t make the decisions. Kat picked the drummers but she didn’t stage the song. She talked about it during an interview with a local LA station. There was a lot of discussion about how she should interact with the drummers. They tried her on her feet, dancing around them but that was a bad camera shot so they put her on the floor. She may have decided to get on the floor last night because she was highly praised for her song the first time she did it. They have no control over what the lighting will be or the backdrop. They make suggestions which are followed sometimes and vetoed others. The director has the final say on how the songs will be staged.

Msteven, you’re the man. Mikegadawg, when are you and Kat getting married? I hate it for you, but she will not win AI. However, you can hear her on Broadway with Diana DiGarmo. I liked her just fine until I had to hear all your comments the past two weeks. She could have sang B-I-N-G-O and you would have said she was the best and the others were terrible. You are definitely a 26 year old in dire need of a woman.

I’m sorry, Jex, you’re right…I’ve found myself a little annoyed by the personal attacks on each of the contestants. For example, Kat’s boots last night have been referred to as stripper boots but how many times have you seen that outfit on TV or, as someone else said, in your office and thought the wearer looked nice. Elliot is frequently slighted for his appearance, as if it makes him a lesser singer, Taylor is called spastic and old in an effort to explain why he shouldn’t be the next Idol. Didn’t mean to land on you but the negativity in here has really gotten to me today, I guess.

I think that Taylor will win it all. I saw him in a bar in Atlanta and he put on a great show. I think to appreciate him you have to see him perform live. He doesn’t have the main stream power of a lot of bands but he HAS ENERGY and LOVES what he is doing and it shows.

Oh, I dont think KAT will win out (never said she would), Chris was my favorite! But with Chris gone, Im supporting my second fave over those other two Vegas acts that are left. And she can sing BINGO , Happy Birthday or anything she cares for me anytime!! I think u guys underestimate how good and commercial KAT is and will be…..with studio production.

I’m really starting to feel like the idols didn’t have to sing at all last night. We have all chosen our favorite and nothing anyone else does during a performance will change our minds. Maybe they should just open up the lines next week and let us vote without putting on the show. Of course, they wouldn’t make any money that way :)

Deirdre, I’m not trying to be rude, but if we all just agreed that they are all good singers, this blog would be very boring. I like the debate. I appreciate other people’s opinions. I think the more we get down to details for each one we see why people vote the way they vote. We have to agree that most people do not vote for talent. They vote for who they like.

That’s the Deirdre I like! You are so right. I love a good controversial topic. You go girl, I mean lady! Folks, you don’t have to like every contestant on the show. Vote for YOUR favorite. There isn’t something wrong with everybody that you don’t like. Accept that and stop trying to make everyone else see flaws in the other contestants. Some of us like Elliott, some like Taylor and some like Kat. That’s why they are the top 3. Kat’s boots or Elliott’s hair has nothing to do with their voice or performance. So what she is trying to look sexy. She’s 21 years old. Let her be sexy. Perhaps if she wore a trench coat on stage and cap with dark shades, she would sound better. Please! Referring to her boots are hooker boots is a tad bit over the top IMO.

I appreciate the fact that all of have different opinions….isnt that what a BLOG is for???!!! Sharing our views and opinions. When ever I comment others and mention things I dont like about other singers and things I like about others is in no way me trying to push my views on you….I thought this had been all established long ago——the JMO movement. Its my opinion….you dont have to like it or agree. I love Taylor and Like Elliot and I dont care for Kat. JMO take it or leave it.

I do agree though that it can go from just opinions to name calling, racism and other things which is completly uncalled for.

mikegadawg, i’m repeating what i’ve READ elsewhere…the contestants are allowed input and suggestions with the staging. Now I do agree with Deirdre, the director has the final say and planning…but it has been stated by several contestants going back as far as Clay and especially when Fantasia sang Summertime that SHE chose how she was positioned on stage. If the director was coming up with this stuff alone, then that would be TRULY biased because why aren’t we giving all the contestants special staging and props. You can’t have your cake and eat it too…either the show is favoring contestants or they are not.

I agree that no matter what happens from week to week on AI we will still vote for who are favs are no matter what. Look how long Pickler stayed around, and again another example— Kat. How can you have average performances for the last several weeks, and still be around ? Not to beat a dead horse, but until they do something about the voting system , we will always have a hit or miss AI winner. People vote 4 alot of reason’s. Has anyone noticed you have not heard Ryan mention anything about the ratings in the last several weeks ? I would like to know what they are from week to week. Shay, you and I are definitely sympatico today. If I looked like Kat , I’d be dressing any way I damned well please and proud of it! If you got it, flaunt it! I would love to wear those boots. Anyway, all I’m saying is that each of these singers appeal to different tastes. I’d hate for everyone, including myself, to start screaming about conspiracy theories if our favorite doesn’t win (although I think Taylor has it in the bag, which is fine with me) They each have hundreds of thousands of fans. All those people are not wrong. They each have their good qualities and they each have their faults. Not one of these contestants has made it through the process without making some serious mistakes. Not one of them has gotten this far without doing something really good. Just saying…:)

The real deal is this: Clive Davis knows he can take Kat and give her good songs and have a star making money. With Taylor, he’s scared to death. Is his fan base just the AI audience who has signed up for the AI long haul? With Elliot, he could spend $25,000 for dental work and still not have a marketable personality. With Kat, men will buy her CD just because of a sexy cover shot.

and Deirdre…you’re right…i was incorrect about lighting and stuff, but I really meant more about her being on the floor like Fantasia…or starting the song acapella like Bo. I’ve never heard the version she imitated last night…I’ve only known OTR to be sang with the music, not partially acapella. So when Kat started, I was sure she was doing a copycat of what Bo was praised HIGHLY for last season. THEN the band came in…THEN she took the earpiece out during a closeup. Overall, I loved her performance of that song, but she gave away a secret that should have stayed between her and the crew (that she couldn’t perform the song acapella AND stay on pitch without assistance). Not what I expect of the American Idol. That said….only reason I believe she should be gone doesn’t have anything to do with jealousy, or looking like a hooker (although I do believe she has relied on her sexuality, in a crunch, more than many others). I think she should go home because she had 1 in 3 good performances. Elliot had 2 of 3 good performances (though I could smack him for choosing such an obscure song). And Taylor deserves top billing because he rocked all three performances (even IF i didn’t like how he performed “Tenderness”).

Whew! Y’all wear me OUT! Time for lunch! :o) where’s linny? I haven’t seen her around today.

I’m not a Kat fan simply because I’m not a blues person, but her wardrobe has always been a hot topic..from being too frumpy, too showing too much, etc. Personally, I loved the boots and she is from L.A. Harmony, you are way out of tune. Kat could pick a booger during a performance and men would think it’s sexy. And…. she has the only real singer’s voice of the top 3. Elliot has a fair voice, less than average looks, and the sympathy factor AI has created for him. Taylor has a good voice, the worst dance moves on the planet, and looks old. Kat has a great voice, great moves, a great look, and sexiness. She is so sexy she makes all women over 30 hate her.

Did anyone notice Taylor lost an earpiece during one of his audience runs a couple of weeks ago? And Chris snatched his earpiece off when it came loose as well. I think they are all wearing earpieces. I think Kat’s just came loose like Taylor’s and Chris’s and she didn’t want everybody staring at the thing hanging from her ear that looked like a really ugly earring. Don’t most performers wear earpieces now if the band is behind them?

Harmony, you are way out of tune. That’s cute. 2pts for you, Jim. I agree to disagree with you. Kat could pick a booger and men would think it’s sexy, but young men (particularly the horny ones) are not the biggest consumers of PURCHASED music (note my stinction from illegaly downloaded) so that doesn’t automatically translate into sales. But I agree, Kat is the American idol by industry standards…that’s what I’ve been saying all day long (read the blog)…and I’ve also said that as a music lover, I’m tired of the offerings that the industry provides us. Kat needs vocal coaching…both Taylor and Elliot are better than her VOCALLY. I, for one, don’t get caught up in looks because artists aren’t going to be dancing around in my car while i’m driving, and I don’t watch the MESS on the video stations that is corrupting the minds of kids today. I’m going to LISTEN to a CD. I’d rather listen to Elliot’s voice hands down. I watch AI to HEAR good vocals, not get caught up in the visual. That’s why Simon (the best and most accurate judge) turns his head when they perform. He could care less what they look like. It’s about a RECORDING contract…how do they sound?

sigh….

I don’t think all women over 30 hate Kat because there are some women over 30 that look better than Kat. People have their own opinions when it comes to looks. Some feel if you have it, flaunt it as long as it is not to much. I am in that boat. Others are a bit more conservative and think that you should cover it all up. My point is this, yall act like the girl comes out on stage in a bikini every week. She can’t help the way her body is made. She has breasts and a butt and that’s that. Let her enjoy her youth. I love it when she dresses up. Makes her look classy to me. Not a hooker!

Also about the ear piece thing with Kat last night….I noticed she took it out when the music came into back her up….so I was wondering if maybe it was a way to help her block out certain noises and keep her on key while she accapela….also Taylor took his ear piece out once he hit the stage so I was wondering if maybe it was to help him hear the music while he was in the audience with the Jailhouse rock last week…just a thought.

mikegadawg, trust that I have NO Kat envy whatsoever. Unlike many, I can offer constructive critiques of EVERY contestant even IF they aren’t my favorite. I’ve said numerous times I think Kat’s a beautiful girl, with a good voice that needs more training. She’s too pitchy…she sings songs on which she KNOWS she can’t hit the notes…she’s overall most inconsistent. Note I said MOST…they’ve all been inconsistent, but Kat is the one left who is MOST inconsistent in her performances. As for Idol being an amateur contest, you’re right…and we’ve SEEN other amateurs in this contest over the years (and THIS season) with more TALENT.

I said from the beginning that Taylor reminded me of a modern day Joe Cocker. Joe Cocker was almost spastic, he had so much soul. I really enjoyed Taylor singing Joe Cocker and Otis Redding’s songs. It brought back old school memories. I thought Taylor outshined everyone last night, although my favorite has always been Elliott because he is so soulful, too, but does not bring to the table any rythym to move to. I would like to see Taylor in concert, but I don’t think Kat or Elliott could hold my attention at a concert, but Taylor surely could. I would be like Paula, the one dancing to the beat. This is the best season so far or at least the most exciting.

Babs and other Chris fans, open up your eyes, Chris is not there any more because his fans let him down by not voting, you cannot assume some one will win and thats what happen, even he said that, so stop and suck it up.

Hey Rosie — not only did I vote a kajillion times for my beloved Chris last week, in the last 15 minutes of voting, AI had him change the message from “This is Chris, thanks for voting for me”, to “Babs, this is Chris and you ROCK for logging the most number of votes here tonight not to mention all season.”

Plus, I did preface my Chris post with “let me be the first to beat a dead horse”. Maybe Rosie thinks I abuse animals? Geesh — I know what you’re going through today, Deirdre — keep up the sound advice on those left standing…I am guilty, however, of being one of those who cannot see any talent left in the competition — I only had eyes for Chris. So last night I voted for Elliot (hahahahahaha - go figure).

Martha I AM a nice person. However, I do have a DARK side if I am attacked. I dont know about squashing you or anyone else but I CAN come up with words you probably wouldnt want to encounter. But Only in defense. As for my lack of Appriecation for Talent. Again. Your opinion. As for your dislike for Taylor. Its a free country last I checked. Still I am probably One of the Nicest persons you Will Ever ecounter in your life.(yup I will toot my horn on that) ;-)

Dances like an EPILEPTIC? My daughter has epilepsy! Couldn’t you have found a better way of saying what you were trying to say? As for “Old Man Taylor”; he has more talent in his little finger than any of the rest…well except Chris. I really wanted a Taylor/Chris finale! Oh well…Go Elliot! Kat is good, but she still needs some time! Elliot is a natural talent. I could sing “Rainbow” better than her! Of course I’m way too old now!

This in response to a blog by Allan above that says Taylor will win but will be a failure ie. Ruben and Fantasia. Taylor has 2 albums out now and has performed with James Brown, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, The drive by truckers and Robert Randolph. He has and is collaborating with Keb Mo on recordings and song writing. He is succesful now! but I guess you know talent more than the above mentioned performers. GO TAYLOR AND GO SOUL PATROL! KEEP THE VOTES GOING IN ALL THE WAY TO THE WIN!!!

Hate to say it…but I just can’t see Yamin advancing any further or gracing the covers of any future albums….looks DO matter!! Of course, I said the same thing about Clay, but Clay has a much better voice (and better teeth). Kat and Taylor in the finals !!

Thanks JD! But I believe that title “THE MAN” comfortably Fits Taylor like a Glove..I am just his Humble Devote Follower :-) and Loving IT! He would Make some of the Know artists a little uncomfortable with his Crazy Energy! Cant Wait Until he Tours without the Other idols whom some Bore Me for their Lack of Showmanship. Many with the exceptions of Chris Mandesa Paris and a few others that Didnt stand out enough for me to remember their names :-/, just didnt MOVE me like those Mentioned above. And we wont even mention the Embarrassing Brittium Twins whom Embarrssed themselves and their Hometown!

Katherine did a great job on the Over The Rainbow song, but lets face it, her other performances were shaky. Elliot did very well and all three of his songs were in his voice range. Taylor was dynamic - Go Taylor!!!! Soul Patrol all the way baby!

To J - Kelli was my favorite. None of the rest of the girls were as good as the guys this year. That is all it is, the males are just better. I give a girl credit when it is due like Kelli. Kelli was the only female who had that “IT”.

I’m not able to catch up just yet and read all the posts, but I just wanted to get this off my chest…Elliott is still my choice, and has the best voice IMO. Even when the band tried to drown him out in his first song, that Clive Davis MIS-picked for him (it was not his genre…He didn’t pick R&B for Katharine). He still did well, though not his best.

And, moreover, I am disugusted by how Elliott is STILL being dismissed and disrespected by AI in general. If nothing else, if was DEFINATELY his turn to go last. But yet, they put him first AGAIN. Give me a break! How obvious can you be?!

Not to mention Clive just gloating over Katharine…and most over the top, Simon declaring her Rainbow performance as the BEST ever! She did well, but that was completely ridiculous. And she was such a wannabee biting off of Fantasia’s Summertime floor performance. Yeah, she was on the floor, but she was no Summertime. Get up already.

And most make-me-want-to-slap-somebody: Simon’s diss of Elliott at the end of his last performance…”You’ll make your mother proud”??? What?? That was uncalled for. Elliott has consistently hit it out the park on many of his performances (not to mention on difficult songs), and he’s been no less than “pretty good” on even an off day. And Simon says THAT? Simon misused his most-listened-to-judge influence on the public, and just lost my respect.

Go Elliott!!! Hold ya head up…either way…And again, let your haters be your motivators (as the dj said).

So I’ve been reading the blogs for several weeks now, and at times I share a lot of the comments and send them to many of my friends b’c they are the TRUTH and sometimes downright HILARIOUS! However - out of respect of all of the people who enjoy these reports each week, please stop referring to Taylor as “retarded” or “eplileptic”. I know this is supposed to be lighthearted, but it’s rather difficult to read it that way when you have a loved one that is actually retarded or has epilepsy. When you are comparing his moves to someone who actually suffers from either condition - it’s just not funny nor is it lighthearted. Sorry to be a downer. GO SOUL PATROL!
Let’s hope Kat remembers her words next week. :)

I have been a loyal reader of this blog, however have remained silent. I can remain silent no longer. I have been in the music industry as a producer/manager for 15-years and have been lucky enough to have had some great success in the industry. I am a loyal A.I. viewer and believe that the best talent has won each year. Regretfully, that will not be the case this year. For the first time, it will not be the winner or runner-up having the most career success. America should be ashamed of themselves, they have voted with their heart and not with their minds. Taylor Hicks will win the contest, but why? Although not talent-less, I see nothing more than a Wedding Singer. How can you take this guy serious? Soul Patrol? I love his enthusiasm, I would hire him in a minute if I was looking for someone to entertain at my Chirstmas Party, but the best talent? Keep a copy of this comment, Taylor will sell the fewest records of any Idol winner. Kat and Elliott will fall out of the public eye by the end of the Idol Live tour. If this trend continues next year too, A.I. will need to start worrying about losing viewers. When the 4th and 5th place finishers sell more CD’s than the 1st and 2nd place winners, it is not a competition an longer. I love the show, I look forward to next year’s tryouts, and I will enjoy the opportunity to sign the 4th and 5th plae finishers and sell A LOT of cd’s. If you’re a Taylor Hicks fan and would like to see him live, my wedding reception will be in early 2007.

Katherine, please don’t try to do the Fantasia, there will never be another Fantasia.

You were not sexy and not becoming at all. Get up off of the floor and pack your bags. Taylor will be the next “WHO EVER IS VOTING IDLE”.
