2/26: David Archuleta dominates - top 10 recap

The night started slow and shaky but got better during the second half. Chikezie and Luke probably saved themselves but Robbie Carrico and Jason Yeager are in deep trouble.

David Archuleta just solidified his front runner status right then and there with “Imagine.” Phew! No contest. I can see him winning this easily.

The rest in order: David Hernandez, David Cook, Chikezie Eze were all excellent. Danny Noriega surprised me and I’m ranking him fifth. Luke Menard saved himself and I thought deserved No. 6. Close call but I place Jason Castro just ahead of Michael Johns, a disappointing No. 8. The bottom two are clear and as noted are Jason Yeager and at the bottom, Robbie Carrico.

Michael Johns (“Go Your Own Way” Fleetwood Mac) - First up! He’s big on tennis. Is this the first time Fleetwood Mac has ever cleared a song for “Idol”? It’s just an okay rendition. His vocals are a bit sloppy. It was good, not especially astounding. And that T-shirt is kind of ordinary. He likes to pull his mike in and out while hitting bigger notes. Interesting. Randy: “It started a little slow for me then you got into it. I wanted you to let you, you didn’t quite go there.” Paula: “You’ve got the whole crowd working. You’re a seasoned performer. You’re charming. You’re already there.” Simon: “It was by far your weakest performance. It’s what I call coasting along. There was no moment. A very weak choice of song.” B

Jason Castro (“I Just Want to Be Your Everything” Andy Gibb): What he hates is interviews. Loves singing, hates talking. He started strong, hit a few bad notes along the way, especialy in the chorus, but overall, charming. I liked it more than the judges. Randy: “As a vocalist, if I take [the guitar] away, the vocals just weren’t that good.” Paula: “I think you made a clever choice with the song. I liked the way you musically interpreted it.” She asks him to go without the guitar next week. Simon: “I thought the song was horrible. It was too schmaltzy, didn’t suit your voice. Your vocals were very weak on that. It didn’t got together this week. You looked uncomfortable.” B

Luke Menard (“Killer Queen” Queen) He’s part of an a capella group and has travelled around the world. Up third, he tackles Freddie Mercury. He is no Freddie Mercury on the charisma level. But he is darn good lookin’. Vocally, he’s very clean, just not anything breathtakingly special. Randy: “In degree of difficulty, you chose a tough song. I liked you better this week. This seems more your wheelhouse, your vibe.” Paula: “You picked the perfect song.” Simon: “It was a mistake. You are always going to be judged with the original. The singer of that song had charisma and personality. You didn’t. It was theatrical and verging on whiny.” B/B+

Robbie Carrico (“Hot Blooded” Foreigner) He drag races cars. He starts a bit sluggish, picks it up in the chorus. He’s like a less authentic version of Bo Bice. It’s quite karaoke. I don’t feel him being terribly hot blooded at all. Randy: “I don’t know if the rock is really really your thing. It doesn’t have enough oomph to be a rock voice.” Paula: “You played it a little safe. You have to up the ante.” Simon: “You don’t have to get so defensive. I thought the vocal was okay tonight.” C-plus

Danny Noriega (“Superstar” Carpenters) He sang in a punk rock band in ninth grade. I have to say he’s a far better vocalist than Sanjaya. He did a fine job. Wow! Randy: “I’m a fan of yours. You are a fun guy. There were some problems with the vocal. You have that slow vibratto. You should speed it up. Just let it go.” Paula: “You got amazing vocal skill.” Simon: “Last week was a disaster. It was better. It wasn’t a fantastic vocal. You were trying to so hard. What I do like is you stand out in the crowd and you’re interesting. And you look terrific on camera.” He said last week was a “disaster,” he admits. B-plus/A-minus

David Hernandez” (“Papa Was a Rolling Stone” The Tempations) He was a gymnast as a kid. He’s been my favorite pure vocalist in this competition and tonight, he proved it. That was really impressive. He had control of the stage and the song. Total soul patrol! Randy: “This is the David Hernandez we fell in love with!” Paula: “Your voice is so pure, it pierces right through the heart. You told a story.” Simon: “This may surprise you. In my opinion, that was the best vocal of the night so far.” A-minus/A

Jason Yeager (“Long Train Runnin’” Doobie Brothers) He plays multiple instruments. After last week’s soporific “Moon River,” he’s going to have to step it up to survive. This is better but he lacks the edge to truly pull of that song. He’s almost too clean cut. He just doesn’t have it. Randy: “It isn’t a singer’s kind of song. It was very pitchy and karaoke.” Paula: “It was fun to see this side of you.” She notes it lacks vocal range. “Pick singer’s songs.” Simon: “The simple truth last week was boring. This week was awkeward and ordinary. That horrific ending. It like you were drunk at a party. You are a quite good singer who can’t perform very well. I’m disappointed.” C-plus

Chikezie Eze (“I Believe to My Soul” Donny Hathaway) Why did he drop his last name? It makes him more memorable! His name is Nigerian, translates into “something well created by God.” It’s a mispronunciation but he lets it go. That was a solid performance, very soulful, very dominant. Randy: “Chikezie is back America!” Paula: “Very clever to pick a song in a story. Better remember my name!” SImon: “You look better. You sounded better. A million times better than last week!” A-minus

David Cook (“All Right Now” Free) He’s a huge crossword and word search man, a “word nerd.” Compared to Robbie Carrico, David is a much more convincing rocker. His voice has some edge and grit. Excellent! Randy: “You are our real rocker from the boys. I really really liked that. Smart choice of song.” Paula: “You are the real deal.” Simon: “It was solid. I don’t think that film helped you. Crosswords. That’s boring. That’s partly your problem. You don’t have a lot of charisma.” He talks back: “I don’t have to win you over with charisma. I have to win them over.” Simon: “I know the rules of this conversation… this is called an opinion. I don’t think a film like that does you any favors.” A-minus/A

David Archuletta (“Imagine” John Lennon”) He’s in the pimp spot. No surprise there. When he was 11, he got to meet Kelly Clarkson. He even had a video of himself awing Kelly while he sang “And I’m Not Telling You.” What a gutsy choice. He has that X factor. A tour de force in singing technique, with proper emotion and modulation. Bravo! Randy: “Dawg. That was one of the best vocals I’ve ever heard on this show.” Paula: “You are ridiculous. I want to squish you, squeeze your head off and dangle you from my rear view mirror.” (That has to be one of the funniest Paula quotes in history!) Simon: “Very very risky to do a John Lennon song, particularly that one. I got to tell you. Right now you are the one to beat. There are 19 very miserable contestants.” A plus

Yes, although I liked the rockers, David Archuleta won the night of all. Great Lennon song.

Well, tonight can be summed up as THE DAVID’S SHOW with a little Chikezie on the eze thrown in.

  1. David Archuleta - Imagine - Just a powerhouse vocal. I personally think the songs socialist message is assinine but we are here to discuss vocal performances not political leanings of song writers, and vocally this was hands down the best of the season.

  2. Chikezie - I Believe - WOW what a difference a week makes. This is the Chikezie I expected all along. great job.

  3. David hernandez - Papa Was A Rolling Stone - I like him last week and this week was even better. Great vocal.

  4. David Cook - Alright Now - Great job, but the guitar overpowered the vocal at times. Still very good.

NOw we step off the cliff into mediocrity

  1. MIchael Johns - Go Your Own Way - A big let down after last week, but still good. Not great though.

  2. Luke Menard - Killer Queen - I may be giving him more credit than he deserves because I love this song, but I thought he did very solid on this.

  3. Jason Castro - Your Everything - just ok for me. Big let down after last week. His voice sounded very small this week.

  4. Robbie Carrico - Hot Blooded - he has a good voice, but this song needs a GROWL, and Robbie just doesn’t have the chops to take on Foriegner.

  5. Jason yeager - Long Train Running - I thought the vocal was solid, and I love the song, but it is not a hard song and he did not change it up at all.

  6. Danny Noriega - Superstar - Baby baby o bay KILL ME NOW baby bay bay oh baby PLEASE PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY baby baby baby oh baby PLEASE MAKE THE BAD GIRL STOP!!!!!! Karen Carpenter just rolled over in her grave.

WHo should go Home - Jason Yeager, Danny Noriega.

Who will go home - Jason Yeager definately. Robbie or Luke will be the other vote off. Danny will be the puss filled infected thorn in our side for a while. BARF!

David Archuleta to win it all — it not — a second place with a career like Chris Daughtry. — Wow — a true vocalist.

What the judges haven’t mentioned in their rush to praise David Archuleta’s performances is his ability to arrange songs. In both last week’s Better Shop Around and this week’s performance of Imagine he made some major expressive changes to the songs while keeping true to their character. If he’s doing this on his own, then he has real talent that goes beyond his voice. It’s hard to see now how he loses this year’s competition. Release his version of Imagine later this week on iTunes and it sells 5-10 million copies in the first week alone!

Ahhh…so after this night I feel a little … bare? I don’t know how to explain it.

  1. Michael Johns- I agree with what Simon said…but he deserves a top 12 spot.

  2. Jason Castro- Agree with Randy/Simon… he’s quite boring… and not the greatest vocalist around. Last week I rated him well based on what everyone else though when really, I wasn’t jumping up and down.. i’ve got to try and give my OWN opinion more! But I like him and .. yeah.

  3. Luke Menard- Better than last week, still blah.

  4. Robbie Carrico- Liked.

  5. Danny Noriega: STILL TOO GIRLY!!! Did you see the little diva strut he took walking out on stage?! Put his voice in another person and he’s great!!

  6. David Hernandez- GREAT!!!

  7. Jason Yeager- Not too bad, still, I just don’t know…not a fan?

  8. Chikezie Eze- Better than last week, but……………..

  9. David Cook- I’ve liked him since the beginning, and if he is a rocker who likes word searches so what?! Simon’s so… blah.

  10. David Archuleta- “Surprise” of the night — he closes the show!! Well, ok, not really a surprise… I was wowed with this performance… and I’ve loved him since I first saw his audition, however, …it just irks me a little knowing that this very well be our next American Idol, which yanno I have NO problem with [at this point] but I hate to know this early…we all said last year at this point “Lakisha will win!” But this time I really believe it may happen… I can’t see us fans ever stop voting for him ! But regardless of predicting him the winner already, I think he’s great and I am psyched to see the rest of his amazing performances…and one more thing: Do we honestly have to listen to girls scream after every line of every song? Irritating. Good luck David- don’t think ya need it though.

So that’s why I feel bare… in a sense that why vote when I know he will win ? nah joking… he’s the only one busy now…out of maybe 3 that i tried but still.

Uh…So who should go? Jason Yeager and…. tough but I’ll have to say Luke Menard…will it work out this way? Probably not…but before top 12 I want Danny, Chikezie, and at this rate Possibly Jason Castro…but obviously that won’t work out b/c that’s 5 people…and only 4 more can leave before top 12.

I’m done venting until tomorrow.

While David Archuleta was singing, it was like he was singing a prayer to God. Congratulations American Idol for finding perhaps the best role model for other kids growing up. In addition to his talent, David appears very humble and just flat out loves people. It doesn’t get any better than that.

This is my opinion: I really dont think they have the talent they had last year. Personally, I dont care for ROCK music. Most of those songs, I’ve never heard of, even though I grew up in the 70’s. But, I do vote every night and every year and as of now David Archuleta gets my vote, hands down. Only 17 years old and very talented. As for the girls, as of now my choice is Asia’h. Oh well, we have a long way to go and practice makes perfect I’ve always heard so it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds..

Dial Idol update:

David Archuleta - definately safe and so far infront it is even funny.

Not officially safe, but in good shape - Michael Johns, David Hernandex, David Cook

Should be ok, but can’t breathe easy - Chikezie, Luke Menard

Sweating it out - Robbie Carrico, Jason Castro

Bottom two at the moment - Jason Yeager, Danny Noriega

interesting night to say the least… David A definitely wow… David H also much better than last week… David C…mmmm wellllll i like him and like that he is a word nerd, but still my least fave dave… jason c and jason y … both ok to me, ok, i know yeager isn’t anyone’s favorite but i sorta like the mellow sound, if done right, and i think he COULD do it right, but they will talk him out of that quickly enough, if he gets another pass thru … Michael—not impressed, sorry D… Luke, i liked him ok… chikezie definitely upped his game, and i just liked robbie, but felt the song choice may screw him, and danny…bleh bleh BLEH

wish danny would go but agree someone will keep him on sigh … so probably yeager and… possibly luke or robbie :(

see you guys tomorrow!

just checked dialidol, castro at the bottom, then robbie, then danny, then yeager… but everyone except David A are grouped within approximately 4 points (from the bottom at 3.27 to the top, below David A, at 6.something)—David A appears totally safe with over 20 points.

Well a quick breakdown from me:

1) Paula Abdul: stop banging on the table, and will someone please cut her air time. For the early contestants she seemed to be droning on and on.

2) Simon Cowell: contestants stop trying to win points by challenging him. David Cook looked like he regretted it. If you want to challenge someone back talk Randy.

3) David Archuletta: in my opinion our first “WOW” performance. What I really like is that he seemed to be trying to avoid his “aww shucks” shtick.

4) Michael Johns: I really liked the chorus, hated the rest. However, I hope more people try Fleetwood Mac songs.

5) Danny Noriega: I still can’t stand his personality, but I’ll admit that he can sing.

6) Everyone else: There were some likes and dislikes. Most notably Jason Castro sang a song that I didn’t recognize and he made me like it while Robbie Carrico sang a song that I did recognize and he made me hate it.

My prediction: once again I’ll make a risky call and say that two guys will be leaving us on Thursday.

By Negativo

Neg’s take:

Ranking of tonights performances:

  1. Jacuzzi: He may have made the bigest turnaround I’ve ever seen. Horrible last week, and the best of the night tonight. Great, gr4eat job.

  2. David Cook: Similar to Jacuzzi in that I think it was an amazing comeback performance. He flat out rocked the house with the vocals and guitar!! GREAT JOB, and thank GOD for him he used his own guitar because the band was just pathetic tonight (see Robbie Carrico).

  3. David Archuletta: I was just not as imprtessed as the judges. Nicde, but I found his arrangement a bit boring, and his giggling is really getting on my nerves.

  4. David Hernandez: I really like this guy’s voice, and he shined tonight. A little stiff on stage still, but his vocals are sensational.

  5. David Cook: I really liked his vocal tonight. He was pure and spot on. Great rebound from an off key performance last week.

  6. Robbie Carrico: He was severely damaged by an inept band. He actually rocked it really well, but the guitar from the band was so weak it gave him no lift at all. The main difference between him and Cook tonight was that Cook rocked his own guitar while Robbie was left hung out to die with that lame-ass band.

  7. Jason Yaeger: He was solid vocally, but so blah on stage. He needs to get more believable and true or his great voice will go to waste.

  8. Jason Castro: Well, I think we all can tell by now that despite his very charming stage presence he simply is not a very good singer. He’ll last because he will get female “cute guy” votes, but his days are numbered.

  9. Danny Noriega: This season’s resident, but even more feminine, Sanjaya contestant was smooth and boring tonight. A nice voice, but a very droning performance. He’ll need a mowhawk next week to get attention if he somehow survives this week.

  10. Michael Johns: WOW, was he horrid. Amazing that he was so good this wntire time but could be THIS BAD tonight. Sorry, but as much as we all have loved him he could be axed after that truly miserable performance.

You know the buzz that David Archuleta IS the next American Idol is getting a bit stifling. I’ve seen that comment in a few different places tonight. Sure it was my favorite performance of the year, but it’s only one and a half weeks in.

Yes…Archuleta’s performance of “Imagine” was lovely. Perhaps though, he should not receive credit for the rendition of the song; as it sounded like the amazing Eva Cassidy’s version of it.

Morning mushblogians! I’m up early this morning…problems with mom again. :-(

Anyway, last night was a yawn. People who were good last week made way for people who were not expected to be good this week.

David Archuleta and David Hernandez were the 2 standouts IMO with a little extra praise for Chickezie, who I thought was AWFUL last week.

The declarations that David A IS the next American idol are a bit premature. We’ve heard him sing twice!(not counting auditions). If he IS the next American Idol, my hope is that it’s because he’s the best singer, not the fangirly favorite. He seems to be headed toward a self-fulfilling prophesy rather than a genuine win at the moment.

Wow! The west coast must have voted wild last night — when I went to bed Jason Yeager was almost a sure bet vote off, and this morning he is in second on Dial Idol.

Well here is my analysis of thier numbers, I was spot on last week after seeing the DI numbers.

Definately 1,000,000% safe - David Archuletta

The rest are technically not safe, but some are better off than others.

Pretty safe - Shickingly Jason Yeager and Robbie Carrico fill these slots at 2 and 3.

Should be safe - Here we have a closely packed group of David Cook, David Hernandez, Michael Johns and Jason Castro. While still within the margin of error, thier lead over the rest tends to say they should be around next week.

Needs to really really worry - Chikezie. He is just close enough to the bottom 2 to have to sweat it out big time.

Bottom 2 - very much in danger. Danny Noriega and Luke Menard. These 2 are a pretty good distance behind the top 7 and it is pretty certain at least one will be gone and likely it will be both of them. Although as I said, Chikezie needs to really be seating this one out.

Last night was definitely not as strong as I’d hoped. Loved the Davids (A. and H.). I like Danny. I know he’s a little flamboyant for a few, but he cracks me up.

My disappointment last night was Michael…wow, I expected more. Jason C., Jason Y., Luke, and Robbie any of them could go home and I really wouldn’t miss them.

My top 6: David A., David H., Chikezie, Danny, David C, and I guess, Michael.

Shaun — i agree! my admiration for the kid comes not so much for his talent — he definitely has that — for singing; it’s his musical maturity — arranging a WELL known song into something more “modern”, more “David A” — and yet still maintain a flavor of the original. Didn’t he actually win over Alex at the Star Search competition?

And the impromptu performance before the AI finalists when he was 11 — that was pretty amazing, and Kelly sure was impressed! That was a fun video clip!

ok — lunch is here… Jason’s Deli delivery today, mmmmmmm love those Muffaletta sandwiches!!!

David Archuleta should be crowned now! He gave me chills throughout his rendition of “Imagine”. I don’t think he has the “Aw, shucks” act going on at all. He’s just happy and bubbling over with flattery by his fanbase, and rightly so! I just can’t help but to smile when I see him. He’s awesome and deserves all the praise he’s been receiving. I can’t imagine any of the other contestants singing “Imagine” as well and effortlessly as he did! Genius!

Despite all the Danny N.-bashers out there, I actually like him. Not only does he have a decent voice, but I always look forward to his comments and ‘HOW’ he says them. Very entertaining. Did anyone else sense that he toned down his “attitude” last night? He seemed more accepting and receptive to the comments he received.

As for the “Simon talk-backers”, I wish they would stop. It’s very unbecoming of them. Sure, they get an uproar from the crowd when they talk back to Simon (as I’m sure the are probably encouraged to do by the producers), but it’ll only come back and bite them in the butt. Reality is, Simon’s opinions DO matter. More often than not, the audience is swayed by Simon’s comments on the show, whether people like to think so or not.

Also, I wish Ryan and Simon would start playing nice (i.e., Ryan’s lack of acknowledgement for Simon when thanking the judges). Maybe it’s staged for the entertainment value, but it’s just uncomfortable to watch.

Overall, great show last night. I look forward to seeing the girls step it up tonight!

Vm, I don’t agree. picking the ‘best’ singer has always been a subjective job. You may have thought Clay was a better singer than Rubin. Or Bo was better than Carrie. But that’s an opinion not a fact.

IMO Kelly Clarkson was the best singer the year she won…Carrie was a better singer than anyone else the year she won. I voted for Clay but had just as much respect for Rubin’s voice.

Making Sense: I don’t think the “Aw, shucks” thing is fake, but I think it is annoying. Last year Melinda Doolittle’s “shock” got to be old after a few weeks, the Goofy like laughs and shyness needs to be reeled in.

On Danny I’ll agree with the decent voice. However, the only entertainment his personality provides me is the dream that someday Simon will walk on stage and give him a good back-hand slap.

One thing I keep in mind with Ryan vs. Simon is that they are actually good friends. I find the banter between them to be more humorous with that in mind.

Asia’h, having the last spot on the show, will undoubtedly do well. I think the song she chose (“All by Myself”) suits her. I guarantee, though, she will most definitely be compared to La Toya London (from Season 3), who also sang that song. I remember that song to be one of La Toya’s best performances. We’ll see how Asia’h does with it to “make it her own”.

Just for the record (no pun intended) regarding Danny Noriega’s song: “Groupie (Superstar)” was written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett, and was originally recorded by Delaney and Bonnie in 1969. OMG, Oh Danny Girl I mean Boy..what can I say. I mean I realize fully you are who you are but good grief can he/she turn down the torch just a little bit? I remember gender benders of the 80s like Boy George, (disco drag queen Sylvester who died from aids)Jermaine Stewart(We dont have to take our clothes off!also dead of aids)These folks were completely out and somehow no one even raised an eyebrow. But this young man..someone please please need to talk to him. I mean I know he wants to live his life but gosh if he only knew just how foolish he looks acting like that. It takes away from his Talent. Superstar wasnt have bad especially since took it back to the original Carpenters style. But I know poor Karen is rolling over in her grave becuz Danny Girl has more of a Femmine approach then poor plain Jane Karen could ever hope to display. If Karen were alive and her and Danny did a duet and both were wearing a dress I bet folk would think that Danny was the female and Karen was the man lol!(Karen had absolutely NO fem appeal, but had a voice to take you to a far away place inwhich she did when she sang “Superstar” my absolute all time favorite by a duo. Message to Danny, your mannerisms are in no way funny, hip, or cool. Stop it. You look ridiculas and I be damned if the voting public is gonna watch you fairy out week after week. I almost barfed. If your gonna queen out like that, go all the way like Dennis Rodman! Where a damn dress! Make the act complete! Right now you just look Foolish, immature, and clueless. Also, for the contestants going back and forth with Simon. Shut your face, take the critique, and come out on top..Smart mouths always end up eating their own smart back remarks. It will only speed your chances of getting booted.

I take my hat off to Carly and Kady. Anyone that tries to pull off Ann Wilson has guts. Brooke White singing “Your so Vain ” will be a snoozer. Alexandra Singing “If you leave me now” does not seem to be a good song choice but you never know. Another night of aMANda screaming. Alaina has the cuteness to sing “Hopelessly Devoted” but not sure if her voice is strong enough to impress. Can’t predict how Kristy, Syesha, Ramiele, and Asia’h will do but I’m looking foward to it.

Looking at the song list for tonight, I was thinking how do we get down to just 6 girls from this 10?

Can we take all 10 girls, David A, and one other guy into the finals?

Seriously though, I see some risks tonight that could backfire. The 10 girls are all so good that any one of them could be gone with a misstep.

But, judging purely by song choice - Alaina, Kristi Lee and Amanda are taking serious risks. I do’t know if Aliana has the chops to pull of “Hopelessly devoted” and even if she does, the song itself pales in comparison with some of the powerhouse songs. Amanda is just taking a huge risk with “wayward son” - she better change up the arrangement and really make it her own. “You’re no good” is such a powerhouse vocal, Kristi might be dwarfed by it.

Others who have to be careful - Carly, Kady and Brooke : any time you take on heart it is a risk because the original songs are so distinctive. Brooke could have a problem of again being to “cutesy” and will be accused of mailing it in with an easy song.

Ya know? Thinking back, none of the former AI Winners were the type to talk back to Simon. Throughout the competition, they always had a smile on their face, regardless of the outcome of their performance…And look what it got them - THE CROWN! The current contestants really should learn from that. Humility and modesty is a very attractive characteristic and will get them far in the competition! Of course, they also have to have a great set of pipes!

This is what I read so It ain’t my words.

David Hernandez was a stripper in Phoenix before his time on American Idol. Obviously we’re not 100% sure, but here’s what we’ve found so far. After rumors were posted around the internet that David has a steady boyfriend of 2-3 years and that he stripped at Dick’s Cabaret, we found pictures of David working at Burn, a gay nightclub that just recently closed in Phoenix. Obviously you don’t wear the club’s logo if you don’t work there. So although we haven’t found any pictures of him stripping just yet, we’re still on the hunt, and the pictures we found are leading us in the right direction.

I wonder if ther is a double standard when it comes down to pictures between men and women. Last year we had Anatella and everyone made a big deal about it. By Making Sense

February 27, 2008 4:30 PM | Link to this

I could just see it…Robbie belting out a “hard-rock” tune, vigorously shaking his head around (like Bo Bice did), and Ooops! The wig flies off! THAT’ll make him stop wearin’ it. Then again, before that even happens, he could already be a “goner”.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

February 27, 2008 4:35 PM | Link to this

WE good point. And while i’m disappointed in lil ol robbie if he does indeed wear a wig, why should it matter? a major topic of discussion last year was which girls were wearing extensions and/or wigs and how good/bad it made them look… why, in light of the double standard thing, should it matter if a guy does? (not that i like it, i’m just curious why its “bad” for a guy, “good” for a gal; stripping is ok for a guy? and not ok for a gal? guys can be rockers but chicks should not be? just askin’ mind you, not expressing ANY opinion either way on any of the above questions… just tryin’ to start some discussion :-)

By Making Sense

WE - In David H’s defense, I don’t think he should be gone just for his “tainted” history. As for Antonella and Frenchie, well, I think they were ultimately eliminated because they just weren’t good enough. If nothing else, their looks (and all the hype that came with their stories), could have even helped to keep them on the show as long as they were. Just a thought.

By JTesla

February 27, 2008 4:40 PM | Link to this

WE, I think David H. will be bashed for reasons other than any supposed pictures. I have a feeling that he will be attacked not because he was a stripper, but because he wasn’t dancing for the ladies. Personally, I don’t care if a male or female has racy pictures or strips for men, women, or barn yard animals - I’m going to support the Idol of today not the young adult trying to get money of yesterday.

Hopefully, he disclosed his work history to Idol prior to the competition, so they shouldn’t be able to get him the same way they got Frenchie.

David Achuleta was by far the best of the night. While it’s too early to predict that he’s going to win it all, he definitely is a front-runner. And, quite frankly, he doesn’t need to win it all to have a big career (fourth-place finisher Chris Daughtry is enjoying big success, while Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee aren’t. Even Elliott Yamin has had a hit song with “Wait for You.”) As long as David Archuleta makes the Top 12, and he’s a shoo-in at this point, he’ll have a successful career. His “Imagine” gave me shivers, and he seems genuine, sweet and very likeable.

David Hernandez gets the runner-up spot for the night, and I also liked David Cook, although I hated his comment to Simon, as well as Chikezie’s comment to Simon. Quit getting so defensive and talking back to Simon. Last time I checked, Simon is a successful multi-millionaire, and the “Idol” contestants are nobodies … right now.

Who should go home: Jason Yeager and Robbie Carrico. Luke Menard is still Orland Bloom smokin’ hot, Michael Johns is still hot, and Danny Noriega is not Sanjaya because Danny can sing AND has a sassy personality.

By JTesla

February 27, 2008 4:51 PM | Link to this

Linny, in a way the problem is one of the persona that Robbie is trying to create. If he was bald and wore a wig or toupee… fine. But here is a guy that is doing it to get the “rocker vote.” Real rockers don’t wear wigs in my book, is that opinion right or wrong? It doesn’t matter, I’ve believed for years that Britney Spears was a fake, but that didn’t stop her fame. No, it only reinforced in my mind that America just doesn’t care. If you put garbage in a in a pretty package they will buy it. I’ll just sit back and sift through the trash.

Maybe he’s trying to get away from the Daughtry look…or feared he’d be accused of imitating him(no chance there, he isn’t even nearly that good) But, a wig, now that it’s out in the open, will change a lot of people’s opinion of him as a singer. it was risky to do and I think it might hurt him in the long run. However, it’s my opinion that he wasn’t going that far anyway.

DialIdol.com has DavidA safe, JasonY and Robbie surprisingly next, and Danny and Luke in the elimination slots. Danny might be splitting teen votes with DavidA, who rocked.

WhatNotToSing.com has DavidA at 92 (0-100 scale) among web reviewers, DavidH next, and Chikezie and DavidC battling for third. No one was rated really poorly; the lowest is JasonY at 21 and Luke at 23. (Amy last week had a 7.)
