2/27: Top 10 gals recap. Blah city!

This is a rare week where not a single performance deeply impressed me. I didn’t give anybody more than a B-plus. At least Ryan didn’t say this was the best group ever again because tonight, that certainly was NOT the case.

The best of a mediocre lot? I’m going to give it to Carly out of default, followed by Syesha, then Kristy Lee Cook. My favorite Asia’h I rank fourth. Brooke and Ramiele are fifth and sixth, followed by Alexandrea. Kady Malloy is someone I so want to like because she’s so entertaining in film, as Simon said, but her vocals are oh so bleh.

The two worst performances were Amanda Overmyer and Alaina Whitaker. Who will go home? It might just be those two. I’m not looking at dialidol.com or your comments. Those are just my gut instincts.

Carly Smithson (“Crazy on You” Heart) - She works at an Irish bar and is a homebody. She opts for a Heart classic. This is a good song pick for her. She feels comfortable and sings it competently. Is her voice ultra special? I’m not quite feeling that. So it was good enough. Randy: “It was good towards the end. Beginning was a little rough. The lower notes give you more problems.” Paula: “It takes a fine singer to sing those big notes. It’s great to hear you back healthy.” Simon: “I thought it was a much better performance than last year. I still don’t think yet you’ve connected with the right song. You are an incredible singer. What you have done is chosen that one song that will give you that absolute moment.” B-plus

Syesha Mercado (“Me & Mr. Jones” The Dramatics) - She’s an actress and they show one of her commercials. She also imitates a baby quite well. She’s got a sexy, caressing voice and she does this song like a pro. I enjoyed it. Randy: “I don’t think this was a great song for you. You got that big belting voice… pick songs you can do that on, everything sparkles.” Paula: “You fall out of pitch on the softer notes. I liked the interpretation.” Simon: “I thought it was a bit indulgent. The song was obviously not written for a girl. I was put off as soon as you started it. It’s not a song designed for you.” B-plus

Brooke White (“You’re So Vain” Carly Simon) She’s a hair stylist. Well, of course she’s going to do Carly Simon! Her voice isn’t quite as good as Carly, though. It doesn’t quite have level of depth. This song is ultimately venomous and she’s way too happy singing it. Randy: “It was a great song choice. I always felt you had that Carly Simon vibe. I don’t think you brought anything different to it.” Paula: “I feel this was a perfect song choice. It suits you. I liked what you did. You brought familiarity.” Simon: “I absolutely loved it. It absolutely connected. The song didn’t sound old fashioned.” B

Ramiele Malabay (“Don’t Leave Me This Way” Thelma Houston) She used to Polynesian dance when she was young. (Sure beats Sanjaya doing it a year ago!). Good song choice for her silky voice. I don’t think she has the best stage presence. She should have moved around more. I enjoy listening to her more with my eyes closed. Not that she isn’t pretty but she lacks a vibrancy that, say, Asia’h, possesses. Randy: “This was just okay vocally. Song choice was weird.” Paula: “You powered through. It’s the same notes. I feel like you didn’t get to perform your magic.” Simon: “Astonishingly, I agree with Paula. Trouble with that song is I’ve heard it so many times at ghastly weddings.” She kept changing song choices. B

Kristy Lee Cook (“You’re No Good’ Linda Ronstadt) She’s a tomboy. She needs a serious comeback to stick around. What a strange walking style and stance! Nonetheless, this is her best vocal performance since “Amazing Grace.” Strange last note, too. Randy: “That’s 100% improvement over last week. Better song choice. I was waiting for a breakout moment that didn’t quite happen.” Paula: “You’re back!” Simon: “I couldn’t remember what you sang last week. My only worry is I don’t know what to label you. I think if you go country you’d make more of a statement. I’m not sure you did with that song.” B-plus

Amanda Overmyer (“Carry On My Wayward Son” Kansas) She’s a bookworm! Go education! She has such a gritty voice, it sounds like she has been smoking for 30 years. As we suspected, when she goes soft, she sounds really rough. Missed notes all over the place. She doesn’t even look all that comfortable. Randy: “It wasn’t the right song choice. Way too much melody. Too many instrumental breaks.” Paula: “You got some moves. You can dance! You got to do what fits right and not worry about anything else.” Simon: “I thought in your film, you came over as very natural, very cool. Nothing felt real. I couldn’t wait for it to finish.” C

Alaina Whitaker (“Hopelessly Devoted To You” Olivia Newton John) She has an OCD issue of ensuring her food doesn’t touch each other on the plate. The problem with her is we already have Carrie Underwood. It was okay but nothing to write home about. Randy: “I don’t think that was the right song. The verses were really pitchy.” Paula: “I thought you did such a good job.” Simon: “I like you. My problem is it’s almost as if your grandmother prepared you for this audition. Everything about you is old fashioned.” He sees her as a dark horse, though. C-plus/B-minus

Alexandrea Lushington (“If You Leave Me Now” Chicago) She sang every year for the Atlanta Fire Department. They show a video of her doing the National Anthem. I’ve always found this to be an exceedingly boring song and she does about as well with it as she could. It was solid but again, her upper registers aren’t as strong as her lower. It never hit the wow button. Randy: “It was so safe for you. You got mad vocal skills.” Paula: “I still feel that you did let go and do your own arrangement. You made it your own.” Simon: “I was a big big fan of yours in the early stages. It’s absolutely stuck in its time period and there’s nothing you can do with the song. You were inconsistent. You looked uncomfortable with it.” She admits being an underdog. B/B-minus

Kady Malloy (“Magic Man” Heart) She can sing opera. And she imitates Simon. Tough song. This is the one Amanda should have sung. Kady’s vocals are just a wee too mellow to take on such an edgy song. It was okay but no pop. Randy: “You never found the pitch.” Paula: “When you powered, you sounded great.” Simon: “I’m very frustrated because everything you do on film is fantastic. The opera was very good. Then you come out here like someone trying to impersonate Christina.” B-minus

Asia’h Epperson(“All By Myself” Eric Carmen) She was a cheerleader. Geez. What a boring song! She starts kind of slow, misses the first chorus but she does a nice ending. Randy: “I know you were sick. But I got to tell you. Very difficult song. Celine sang everything out of it. Highest degree of difficulty. You did a good job.” Paula: “It was great. You had problems in the low parts, low notes.” Simon: “You have got to be one heck of a singer to pull it off. Unfortunately, you’re not. You shouldn’t have attempted that song. You almost got away of it.” B-plus

Whats up flats. It is ok to be on stiffy alert tonight.

Well ok, Flats, I’m glad you are happy but I truly don’t get this penchant every week for self-congratulations about being first to get on the list. What difference does it make?!

That angst out of me, I really liked Carly but agreed with Randy. Got better as she went along. Syesha, however, impressed me more in her commercial than with this song, but admittedly, I’ve never been a fan of this tune. Aha! Randy agrees with me.

Carly was impressive tonight. I just wish she would cover the arm. Syesha OK and Brooke was a lot better than I thought she would be with that song. I liked it.

Brook - Could not disagree with Simon more, and for me, that’s rare. I think when he hears it again, he will change his mind. She was off-key a lot. I would also give Carly an A-, or at the very least a B+, rather than your B- Rodney. She is still the best singer in the competition. Just me, but I love her (hate tatoos but it doesn’t matter). She is the best.

aMANda looks a hot mess. Please get rid of this freak so we don’t have to continue to look at this.

Oh no…Amanda, who I like, was just awful. I had-to-leave-the-room bad. I enjoyed Brooke, but the choruses were just weak, and it should’ve been noticed by the judges.

Don’t feel bad RK, I like Kady but she just murdered her song.

Amanda is no more a freak than Carly, WE, but I agree with RK. I love Amanda and it was her worst performance so far as well as obvious that she wasn’t comfortable. The judges need to make up their minds. They’ve been telling her to stretch and stay away from Joplin and then tell her to stick to blues.

Asia’h - agree wholely with Simon!

Achin!!!!! Hello!!!!!

My list. 1.Carly, 2. Ramiele, 3. Syesha, 4. Alaina, 5. Brooke, 6. Kristy, 7. Asia’h, 8. Alexandrea, 9. Kady, 10 Amanda.

Carly basically outsang every body tonight! Ramiele and Syesha were interchangeable for me.

Amanda was really awful and Kady made a mess of her song.

Sorry alex fans..she was just weak and uninteresting.

War Eagle, allow me to introduce you to Achin4Aiken…one of the originals on this blog…even before my time if you can imagine. She’s as opinionated(or even more so) than I am and relishes a good ‘discussion’ involving differences of opinions on various singers.

The night started off great and faded badly in the second half. Some of the things that worried me did come to pass to, and tonight more than ever the old mantra of SONG CHOICE SONG CHOICE SONG CHOICE was in full effect.

  1. Syesha Mercado - Me and Mr. Jones - totally disagree with the judges here. This was an effortless superb vocal tour de force. Not an oh my god performance, but excellent none the less.

  2. Carly Smithson - Crazy on You - Perfect song choice by Carly. The verses worried me in that I could not understand what she was singing, but the chorus more than made up for it. As horrible as she was last week, she was amazing this week.

  3. Ramiele Malubay - Don’t Leave me This Way - another one I am at odds with the judges on. Again I thought this was a vocal gem, and showed off Ramiele’s wonderful gift.

  4. Asia’h Epperson - All By Myself - I would love to put Asia’h higher, but the first half of this song was a total mess, and it was only her power vocals and great finish that pulled it together. The second half of the song was one of the best of the night, but the first half was weak.

  5. Kristy lee Cook - You’re No Good - I was worried the song would be too big for her, and it pretty much was, but she sang flawlessy and showed flashes of what makes her one of my favorites. Simon is correct though, Kristy needs to go country country and more country. Power songs are not her forte.

  6. Brooke White - You’re So Vain - Brooke sang this quite excellently, and she deserved the praise of the judges, but it was nothing special. There was no spark, just a nice looking girl singing a very nice version of a Carly Simon classic.

  7. Alexandrea Lushington - If You leave Me Now - this starts the SONG ChOICE SONG CHOICE SONG CHOICE stink bomb section of my ratings. it pains me to put Alex down here because she has such a beautiful instrument, but this was painful to listen to.

  8. Kady Malloy - Magic Man - Kady sang very good, but this song was just way too big for her. As with Alex, Kady wasted a wonderful talent on the totally wrong song.

  9. Alaina Whitiker - Hopelessly Devoted To You - The good news, Alaina actually sang quite nice, BUT this was a horrible song choice to make among all the POWER SONGS being sung. I guess some might say it was a nice change of pace, but for me it was like watching a high school talent contest performance.

  10. Amanda Overmeyer - Carry on my Wayward Son - This was just a total disaster. Totally wrong song for her voice, terrible performance and just plain SCARY APPEARANCE. I was waiting for her to pull a kitten out and rip off it’s head. This performance should become exhibit A shown to every Idol contestant on what not to do.

DEFINATELY, UNEQUIVACABLY, UNDOUBTEDLY GONE : Amanda. Not even up for discussion. She may set the record for fewest votes ever. I wonder if Dial Idol give NEGATIVE SCORES?

IN Serious Trouble Alexandrea, Kady, Alaina. I really think the other vote off will come from these three, and it will be all because of song choice. Based on last week and this week together, it probably should be Kady, as much as it pains me to say that.

OK D, she just rubbed me the wrong way by starting her first post by criticizing someone else. There is really no need in that.

Mom’s not too good but hanging in there. She enjoyed the show tonight. Idol always perks her up.

Kady is soooo talented but it just doesn’t come across on TV.

I thought Asia’h was VERY disappointing tonight. Not nearly as good as last week.

Kristy however surprised me with a comeback!

February 27, 2008 10:10 PM | Link to this

So Simon gave one good comment out of a possible 10…and 1/2 a good comment to one other person, but that doesn’t count (and I mean as in vocal ability and performance).

  1. Carly Smithson- Back and healthy…..hmm…not bad.

  2. Syesha Mercado- Great! One of my favorites…I feel like I’m in need to vote for her like crazy she’s 2nd to last on dialidol!! Oh no…

  3. Brooke White- Much better than last week.

  4. Ramiele Malubay- This is what I love is when they do an upbeat song and still sound good…like Diana DeGarmo!

  5. Kristy Lee Cook- True Randy: much better, but still boooring.

  6. Amanda Overmyer- Well obviously she was better than last week which was horrendous…and it was cool… vocals not good at all though.. she’s still up there on dialidol, and i’ve said all along i like her voice a lot, but i think she really more than most others needs to go.

  7. Alaina Whitaker0 I should go on American Idol—i love the food she was eating!! Um…she wasn’t as good as last week, a little sharp… but she’s cool.

  8. Alex Lushington- Good, not great—she wears some weird things I’ll tell you that much.

  9. Kady Malloy- I feel bad because I want her to do well…2nd half of the song was better…i love her personality—hopefully next week she’ll be great…and she’s at the very bottom on dialidol.. makes me sad. let’s hope not

  10. Asia’h Epperson- Did her first ‘all’ as in all by myself not come out?…uh…uh oh…not too bad though.. but I always knew with her voice songs like these would give her problems.

Gr…I just wish … I don’t know. I personally think they’d do better if they could pick their own songs instead of from a list…just my opinion.

But bottom 2 so far on dialidol is Syesha and Kady.. that cannot happen.

Who should go? It’s soo much tougher with the girls…dialidol is so wrong this week IMO… uh… so I’m gonna say Amanda and… the other one I’ll say Kristy JUST BECAUSE I find her quite boring after all this time.

Other contenders to leave: Alex…though I do like her Alaina…same ———-dialidol———- Syesha & Kady… better not happen though.. but Kady best do something next time to really stand out or she’ll be out unfortunately.

It was SO good to see Achin’ tonight… wish I’d been here earlier! A4A knows the music industry and knows her stuff!!!! Always always a fountain of information and opinion!!!! If you see this, i just wanted to tell you… the “first” thing is a holdover from some joking around we used to do when we had that “chat blog” format… and flats, as usual, hasn’t let it go, LOL!!! it’s not anything serious, A4A, just a little goofiness that is basically harmless, compared with some other stuff that’s happened! but that’s history, and i just wanted you to know, lol… maybe we can talk flats in to dropping the routine? hint hint

I was surprised by Kristy, and now think she’ll at least make it to the top 12… this was the first time except for Amazing Grace that i have been impressed at all

Carly was good tonight, i enjoyed Brooke, but as was said, it wasn’t special, but it WAS good. I did NOT enjoy Kady’s Heart song at all… Magic Man is one of my all-time favorite sing-alongs, as is Carry On Wayward Son, and while I’m a rocker-girl fan, i felt Amanda didn’t offer enough tonight, again. it’s a shame. Hubby said that Amanda should sing more bluesy stuff—anyone familiar with Maggie Bell of Stone The Crows? from that era, also. Strong, rocker-ish, but bluesy voice. Amanda would do her stuff and style well, imho. Other than Carly, Syesha and Kristy, with a followup of Brooke, most of the performances of songs tonight are well described by Rodney in the headline “Blah”

i was very very disappointed in the ladies, overall. As Randy says, there are a LOT of good songs from the 70s. although i wonder just how many of the ones we would remember and love to hear are available (released) for the contestants to use; obviously there’s a whole HUGE list of NOT available stuff!!

see you guys tomorrow… looking forward to the results show… one more mass vote-off then we get down to hopefully serious stuff.

peace :)

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Rod: Tonight was Blah City. Carly was the best, but even she was just merely good. Amanda should definitely go home. The second goner? They were all so mediocre, I don’t really care. Maybe Syesha or Alaina (both had bad song choices and dull vocals).

Well according to dialidol aMANda who had possibly had the worst vocal performance ever on AI along with the most freakish appearance, has the number one spot

I just can’t find the words to comment on that. For a rare moment I am speechless.

Morning mushblogians!

Amanda is number one on dialidol. Easy explanation IMO. During semi finals, the voting isn’t as ‘enthusiastic’ as it is during top 12. That allows VFTW, who encouraged people to vote for Amanda, to dominate. No other explanation. The girl was awful last night.

I guess that it’s also possible that she has every biker in the country voting for her.

I’m going to go out on a limb and post the names of the contestants that I’m excited about. None of them are perfect(even little David)

In no particular order:

  1. David Archuleto: Obviously, at the moment, the top pick and for good reason. He’s a seasoned singer, for a 17 year old. he knows how to pick good songs, which is half the battle and he has an excellent voice and stage presence. The downside: he may have peaked too early and this makes expectations hard to meet. Plus, I don’t care how old he is, he HAS to stop giggling!

  2. Syesha Mercado. She’s gorgeous, she got a powerful voice and she has charisma. She needs to be careful what songs she picks, last night was ok but not what she should be doing.

  3. Michael Johns. The perfect example of peaking too early. His expectations were above the legal limit and a mediocre showing Tuesday looked more like a dismal failure. However, people still ranked him high. Positives: Great voice and great looks. Negatives: Needs to connect with his audience better and FIND a STYLIST!

4.Ramiele Mulabay: This girl has a great voice. I want her to mature a little more and become a performer rather than just a good singer.

  4. David Hernandez. I don’t care What he did in his past life or on what side of the street he walks..he’s got a great voice, a good performance level.

    1. Carly Smithson. Like her or not, the girl can sing!

That’s only six but I’ve never known a season where I cared about all 12 of the finalists…..and I may have forgotten about somebody. :-)

LOL! Shaun. I’ve always thought that “first” stuff was idiotic….A4A is just a lot better at making you feel that way! :-) She’s always been a pistol and, if she’s going to hang around for awhile, we’d all better get used to it!

WE…that’s a PERFECT description of how Amanda looked last night!

By Negativo

Neg was again impressed with how some of the least impressive girls last week were much more impressive this week. I also am now becoming full blown ANNOYED at the gratuitous pimping of Carly. She is simply NOT a great vocalist.

1 - Brooke White: Like Simon, I absolutely LOVED her performance! 2 - Ramiele Malabay: I am confused why Randy is not so into this performance. Anyway, she has mega pipes and blasts out a power disco classic. I likey. 3 - Syesha: I absolutely love her voice but don’t like the song choice or arrangement much. 4 - Carly: She was great in spots, yes, but I totally disagree with the judges about her voice. Good, not great. 5 - Kristy Cook: Decent vocals and off the charts in the HOT department. Super fine looking babe. 6 - Alaina: Hopelessly average cover of hopelessly devoted. 7 - Asiah: All by myself made me want to turn her off and be by myself. 8 - Lushington: Looked and sounds ghetto trying to pull off a whiny, whitebread Chicago ballad. Uhhhhh, NOT GOOD!! BAD!!
9 - Malloy: Comically terrible attempt at Heart. Stumbled down the steps and then vocally tumbled throughout the song. 10 - Amanda: Buh-bye time for this one. I cannot look at her or listen to her for another moment. As Simon said: GHASTLY!

Listening to Kady and Amanda last night almost made me stop watching idol the rest of the season, but for some reason, Kady is one of my favs. She’s cute (not mentioning the lazy eyes), funny and adorable and I hope she goes further and pick better songs. Amanda is just dreadful from her hair, to song choice, to outfits, to makeup… shall I go on. But my picks to go home are Amanda and Kristy. She just doesn’t have it to me. Sorry Kristy.

Oh, and I want to support Alexandria so bad because she is our hometown girl, but she wasn’t strong at all last night and neither was Asai’h. And I know I may get shot for this, but Alaina wasn’t all that bad to me. That song will always be compared to the original, but I think she did good with it (ducking)!!

To sum up this top 20, only two of them deserve to be in the top 12 and that’s Archuleta and Carly. The rest need to prove themselves, including Michael Johns.

OK..Randy Ho’s assessment of last night is ringing what I said at the beginning..out of 100.000 tryouts..this is the Top 24? you guys think its lousy now? HA! but in all honesty although somehow I missed his peformance..I was in my kitchen last night and heard a re-cap of the guys. One voice stood out. The young 17yr old who once had a problem with his vocal cords..Well from what I heard from the kitchen..he sounded far better then those who suppose to have been in top voice. Except maybe 2 other guys..tell u how much I paid attention to the females.>I put the tv on mute and talked on the phone until the end of the show..AI was a MISS last night.

I know I’m slightly biased, but I enjoyed the girls performances more than the guys this week. That being said, some were just really bad.

Here’s my ranking: 1. Kristy - no, not just because she’s a tomboy. grin I was actually quite surprised by her turnaround. BTW, Simon telling her she should do country…really? Wow! Genius. And for the record, has he finally come around on country music? ;)

  1. Carly - She’s still not my fave, but she did a really good job. Still, I’m so over the pimping.

  2. Alaina - It may have been cheesy, but I like her voice. Though, I agree with the assessment that we’ve already had Carrie. She needs to change her look to be more youthful (I agreed with Simon). If she continues with the “pageant” dressing, she’ll just keep reminding everyone, “Carrie’s back? Oh, wait…” (Sidenote: totally laughed at Simon’s dig of Ryan re: the blue dress and heels).

  3. Brooke - I liked her a lot more this week. I think she does well with the guitar and makes her stand out in “the Sea of Blonde.” It was a great song choice for her.

  4. Ashia’h - She started a little rough, but her personality carries her through. And yes, I’m a sucker for the dimples.

  5. Syesha - I felt it was kind of boring, but she was on point.

  6. Ramiele - She’s never been one of my faves, and last night she just seemed awkward onstage for me.

  7. Alexandrea - I want to root for her, but the song was just not really helping her. I do have to say that her outfit was pretty funny. I mean, really, a girl wearing cargo shorts is a girl after my own heart.

  8. Kady - Everyone nailed it. Her personality on tape is hysterical, yet it doesn’t show up when she performs. I really like her (as one of Kady’s Ladies), but the song was just bad.

  9. Amanda - Say what you will about rocker chicks. I like them on occasion, but not last night. Seriously, did (beauty school dropout) Brooke do her hair? Or is Pepé Le Pew her fashion icon? ;)

All in all, Amanda should go home. Who should join her? That’s a toss up. But Kady should leave before Alaina, IMO.

Shay…you and I are on the same page! I didn’t like Asia’h or Alex last night even though I tried really hard to like them.

And I’m a fan of Kady’s although I don’t think she’s going to be a happy camper tonight. I also like Alaina but mostly because she’s so cute and young and silly!

If you look a little high on the post list you’ll see who my top 6 overall are!

“Amanda looked like she had been hit in the face with a big black skillet??” ROFLMAOPIMP!!

That was funny WE! But you are absolutely right. I was thinking more of a punch in the face cause she looked so rosy red.

Pepe Le Pew must have dressed her last night.

Shay I liked Alaina too. There is no way that she was going to do that song justice but she gave it a good shot. I too was expecting more from Asai’h especially since she was in the pimp spot.

Morning flats.

Shaun I guess they will share the wig. Didn’t someone use some recycled extentions one time?

And one more thing before I log off, David was the only one worthy of me picking up the phone to vote for this week and I couldn’t through. I would vote for Carly cause I think she has the best voice in the competition, but I can’t get past that Terminator Arm. That’s all I stare at when she’s performing. I have to actually close my eyes to hear just how amazing of a voice she has. She really should wear long sleeve shirts at least until she gets a strong fan base or it may cause her a few votes.

Peace out good people! I have work to catch up on.

The ONLY hope for Amanda is that IF she makes it through tonight (and i don’t really trust dialidol on this one) she needs to lose the stripe, and get some SERIOUS wardrobe help, give up some of the trappings that make people push her away before she even opens her mouth, and find the RIGHT song from the 80s… WAIT I am NOT saying she needs to compromise herself out of being a rocker chick. What she DOES need to do is lighten up the appearance a bit — paula was right, she doesn’t NEED the ton of makeup, the extra stripes, the weird pants (i think those were supposed to represent a motorcycle or something, AWFUL) and just SHOW if she can SING, have a good time with it but remember the audience.

Some might say that’s not fair, Chris didn’t compromise and look how good he’s doing. Well. Sorry to say, apparently there IS a huge gender gap here. Guys can sort of stick to their same ol’ schtick, but girls have to gussy-up, the right way (and not too much) to please the crowd. If she wants to make it through another week (assuming she makes it through this one), she needs to be realistic about the fact that this is a competition.

I sort of see Amanda as raw potential. But demanding that everyone appreciate your … differences, shall we say … doesn’t always win votes. You have to be able to take who you ARE and use that within the context of what you are DOING.

BTW, love the comments about Asia’h using Robbie’s wig…that’s funny!

Well for some reason I couldn’t post last night so here are my thoughts from last night….

Frankenstein called, he wants his bride back.

Since I started out with the bad, I should continue with Alexandrea and Kady. I just didn’t like either of their performances. Sure they weren’t as bad as the Bride of Frankenstein, but they really just weren’t that good.

For the good, I really liked Ramiele, she would get my top vote for the night, Carly did a good job with Heart, and hopefully she will be the sole girl rocker after tomorrow. If Kristy goes country I think she can have some staying power. Finally, Asia’h’s hair looks great straightened. I wasn’t overly impressed with her singing, but if the look doesn’t get some WE and flats chatter tomorrow then I say she was robbed.

Perhaps a little crash course in fashion (and hair) is in order for the Idol stylists… Alaina and Kristy certainly could have done better. I think Alaina would have looked better if she wore a burlap bag, that blue thing was hideous.

I think Amanda has talent. Her talent may not be what everyone is hoping for this season. She just hasn’t found her nitch. Yes, i do think she needs to do something with her hair and clothes. So does Jason C. those dreads have to go. Do you have an idea who might be the next idol? I really like Kady Malloy and David H and David A haven’t really decided on the guys yet. Hey do you know of anyone who might be the next seasons Idol. Go here and check out this site they will send an american idol hopeful to an audition all expenses paid. You can’t beat that. That blue dress Alaina was wearing looked liked she’d whipped it up on a sewing machine about 2 seconds before she performed. Kinda like the pins were still in it!

Amanda has talent but last night was horrendous. Chris Daughtry may have never compromised but he had the talent to pull it off AND he never dressed like a circus clown! She would be more believeable WITHOUT the KISS make-up and the hair, OMG the Hair!!!!

lol, tex you have to give us the link… to go “here” … and it’s nice to hear someone else give Amanda SOME credit!

i don’t get what everyone sees in Kady. She’d be great at a party, all those impressions, but this is a SINGING contest and frankly she just has not shown, on stage (maybe she was better in the auditions), that she can handle it and perform. i am SO not impressed.

did anyone else look at Ramielle last night and see a “twin” from the guy group? meaning Danny? the way he wears his hair, and the way she wears hers, their slight builds, the coloration and complexion… they could be brother and sister almost, LOL!

don’t get me wrong, i think Ramielle is cute as a button, but Danny doesn’t give me the same cuddly feeling, LOL! (Ramielle and Danielle?)

By Deirdre

February 28, 2008 10:13 AM | Link to this

I think everybody likes Kady personally but we do not appreciate her as a singer and that disappoints us. She’s got a good voice but NO performance skills. She freezes up and is wooden on the stage.

Amanda would be doing SO much better if she’d stuck with the Joplin style of song AND dress(do you ever remember Janis wearing make-up EXCEPT on her eyes) Last night her singing was NOT good and the costume distracted completely from the song.

With Kristy there was just something wrong with the top for me. It wasn’t that it didn’t show enough, or showed too much, it was just the wrong color or fabric.

For the first time in American Idol’s seven-year history, the show’s contestants will be permitted to sing songs by the Beatles, specifically those written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Those songs will be performed a week from Tuesday, when the top 12 perform for the first time.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

February 28, 2008 10:58 AM | Link to this

Steve, before YOU get so judgmental, please note:

A cover of the song was also a hit for the 1970’s group The Dramatics.

perhaps what she did was more akin to the Dramatics than Billy Paul’s version?

additionally, according to Wiki: “‘Me and Mrs. Jones’ has been covered by Curtis Mayfield, Ten Wedge, Roy Meriwether, Andy Abraham, Al Green and Michael Bublé. A remake of this song was recorded by Freddie Jackson in 1992. Coolio recorded his own version on his album Gangsta’s Paradise, entitled ‘A Thing Goin’ On’. Jazz singer Amy Winehouse recorded her version of the song for her sophormore [sic] debut, Back to Black as well, entitled ‘Me & Mr. Jones’.”

Like many, the girls were rough. I bloggedand watched and found myself unable to really call anyone out as outstanding, though Carly was the best last night. I, too, want Kady to succeed, but she’s just been awful. It was mostly bad last night, with Amanda particularly bad. I don’t know what happened onthe West Coast. When I went to bed, Amanda was in the back of the pack, with Carly in 1st, when I woke up, Amanda was 1st and Carly 4th on dialidol.com. Alaina is pretty solidly in last, but, I didn’t think that was where she deserved to be. Here’s my theory about dialidol and Amanda. Amanda’s fans don’t know how to text message, so they only call in.

What do you think of that idea?

Here’s my take on the 2 girls to get voted off tonight - Amanda was a horrible mess and embarrasment. It was evident she was terribly uncomfortable with her performance. As for Kady, yes, everyone says she’s great on film (clips), etc… Problem solved! She needs to pursue an ACTING career, NOT a SINGING career. Amanda & Kady - OUT!

I thought Carly did a wonderful job, although I am not really a fan, I can’t deny her talent.

I agreed with the judges about Brooke. Great song choice, well executed.

I thought Alexandrea did a nice job. I listened to it twice and still liked it. It wasn’t a WOW performance, but solid in my book.

Amanda blew it. I wondered if she was sick. I guess the VFTW vote will save her. In response to those who claimed the Dial Idol vote was due to the VFTW, I would have to wonder if any of those people would take the time and effort to sign up on Dial Idol.

Kady blew it too. Her lower register was non-existent. She is a cute and nice girl, but she’ll be lucky to make it another week.

I liked Asia’h but she did miss some low register, but I guess that’s from being sick.

Kristy Cook sounded good, but the strut was odd.

Ramiele, I just don’t get her and I never have. She is like watching paint dry.

The rest are just middle of the pack and I didn’t see anything outstanding in either direction.

Actually, I am digging this year’s babes. All of them - except Amanda, of course - are supremely do-able. Look for them to really sex it up more in the next couple rounds.

Anyone else thing Carly would’ve done an exceptional job with “All By Myself” with her “powerhouse voice”? I think she, out of all the girls, could’ve impressed if she so chose to tackle it. However, she did state, probably more times than she really needed to, that she LOVES “Crazy for You” (by Heart), it’s her all time favorite song and wanted to sing it. Was anyone else thinking, “Enough already! We got it! You love that song!”. Carly’s got a great voice, very strong, but I’m still not a huge fan of hers. Can’t seem to pinpoint why…

MSense, i’m the same way about Carly. I just don’t know what it is, i’m just NOT impressed shrug

It’s funny to me to hear everyone putting down the whole 70s sound, when at LEAST with the girls, they chose mostly songs we all have HEARD (although i do think simon was raised in a cave in lower east somewhere to have not heard magic man before! heck, 30+ years later, just turn on the radio! find any “classic rock” station and wait .. you’ll hear Magic Man, along with a short list of other “classics” that it seems the radio programmers think are the ONLY songs still available from that era, LOL!

I have to say… for all the hype,
