3/4: Idol producer says David Hernandez’s stripper past not a problem, top 8 guys recap
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It looks like David Hernandez is in the clear. And he’ll be under greater-than-normal scrutiny in terms of song choice. Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” or Adam Ant’s “Strip” are unlikely choices. Maybe he’ll opt for Jermaine Stewart’s “We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off.”
Indeed, Ken Warwick, co-executive producer of “American Idol” has told TV Guide: he doesn’t care about Hernandez’s past, documented in this AP story.. Here’s the press release:
AMERICAN IDOL EXEC PRODUCER on DAVID HERNANDEZ’S STRIPPER PAST: “We’ve had strippers on the show before; we’re never judgmental”
March 4, 2008 (New York, NY) - American Idol’s executive producer Ken Warwick tells TVGuide.com that he doesn’t care about contestant David Hernandez’s stripper past. “The truth is we’re never judgmental about what people do to earn a living. They’ve gotta put food in people’s mouths,” he says.
For three years, 24-year-old Hernandez worked as a stripper at Dick’s Cabaret in Glendale, Arizona, where he danced nude and gave lap dances to a mostly male clientele.
“We’ve had strippers on the show before [that would include season one finalist Nikki McKibbin] We’re never judgmental about people who do things like that. If it were some sort of heavy porn, then maybe we’d have to take action. But certainly not on this,” Warwick tells TVGuide.com.
In previous seasons, Idol execs have avoided establishing hard-and-fast rules about a contestant’s past. (When it was discovered that Frenchie Davis posed topless for a website, she got the boot, but when racy pics of Antonella Barba showed up online, she was allowed to stay.)
Might this jeopardize Hernandez’s place in the top 16? “If there’s a stretch of the public that thinks, ‘Oh, dear, he was a male stripper, I’m not gonna vote for him,’ then that’s the luck of the draw,” Warwick says. “If the public doesn’t like him, then they’ll get rid of him.”
Danny Noriega also goes all negative in this xmas rant found by tmaz.com.
On with the show: Isn’t this ironic that the topic tonight is “most embarrassing moments”?
This was actually a very good night for the boys, save for that Wham! performance.
The top three in order: David Cook, David Archuleta, Jason Castro. Closely behind them is Danny Noriega (I ranked him much higher than most, now that I’m looking at it) and David Hernandez. In sixth a bit further back is Michael Johns. Then Chikezie. The bottom by a long shot: Luke Menard. (I have not looked at dialidol.com yet.)
Wow. Who goes home? I’m 100% certain Luke is a goner. But who else? Maybe Danny’s welcome has been worn out. Or Chikezie, who doesn’t excite me much but he did get that magic final slot and seldom does anybody get canned at this point when they sing last. Michael Johns is not safe either at this stage. But I must make a call. Luke is out. And I’ll call it for Michael Johns so the Vote for the Worst folks can rejoice in Danny’s spot in the top 12!
Luke Menard (“Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” Wham) Luke’s most embarrassing moment is a photo of him wearing a tutu. Ahem. When I joked last week about them picking “Safety Dance” or “Rock Me Amadeus,” I didn’t think someone would go even cheesier with this Wham! classic. He starts extremely weak, truly embarrassingly so. It’s just such a jokey song, how can anyone keep a straight face. His only saving grace is a nice ending high note. But that’s pretty much it. Randy: “Started a litte rough… but you kind of got it together at the end. Paula: “?????? I loved it.” Simon: “A bit girlie. There’s no chance you’ll even make it through the final 12. You won’t win.” That was the opener?? Doesn’t bode well for the rest of the night. C
David Archuleta (“Another Day in Paradise” Phil Collins) He went to Honduras for a fundraiser and he sang a Spanish song but his voice was gone. My mom ran up on stage and finished the song for me. He picks a song that hasn’t been heard in awhile, a socially conscious song — again! This one’s about homelessness. He’s the first one to hit a real piano, at least in the beginning. He does absolutely nothing to disprove the contention he will be the winner. It’s another brilliant performance. Nuanced, mature, controlled, everything. Randy: “I thought it was good. It didn’t show up all your vocal prowess. It was nice.” Paula: “I loved that there were a couple of notes that were off. Proves you aren’t this hologram.” Simon: “It wasn’t as good as last week. You should have stayed at the piano. It’s all getting a little bit gloomy. You’ve got to lighten up.” A
Danny Noriega (“Tainted Love” Soft Cell) His embarrassing moment. A female friend trips him in a movie theater and he falls in front of his “crush,” gender not referenced. He goes for a punkish version of a rather easy song to sing. It’s surprisingly good, far better than anything Sanjaya could ever do. Randy: “It started a little rough but I love the arrangement. I liked the way you did it at the end.” Paula: “You’re like this bright light in this competition.” Simon: “I thought it was horrible. Absolutely useless. Hated the arrangement. Hated the performance.” A-minus
David Hernandez (“It’s All Coming Back To Me” Meatloaf/Celine) Most embarrassing thing is a photo shoot where he had a booger hanging off his nose. Nothing about his dancing. Who sang this in the ’80s? Wasn’t this a ’90s song for Celine? He wasn’t bad but he definitely missed some notes, not as clean as he has been in the past. Randy: “You sometimes overshot the notes. Good song choice for you.” Paula: “I really feel like you’re getting into your groove.” Simon: “It wasn’t as good as last week. I prefer when you’re doing the soul songs. But you’ve 100% secured a spot in the finals next week with that.” B-plus
Michael Johns (“Don’t Forget About Me” Simple Minds) He was a kangaroo mascot at a rugby match and got beat up. He changed up some of the keys on this classic “Breakfast Club” theme but it’s not half bad. The more I listen to him, the more I feel he’s a very good cover band singer but not quite good enough to win this. Randy: “The Aussie boy goes home for ’80s week. It’s so you. You kind of remind me of Michael Hutchence.” Paula: “I’m so glad you are the type of artist who really is defining you who are. I like the strength in your low range.” Simon: “I liked it. I didn’t love it. I still think with you are like one of the girls. Great talent but hasn’t quite connected with the song. I prefer you on the soul singer than a wannabe rock singer.” I agree with Simon 100%. B
David Cook (“Hello” Lionel Richie) His most embarrasing moment— he forget lyrics during a talent show. Song choice hit me with a huh? Why would he pick this eye-rolling turd? He turn s it into a strong power ballad and does amazingly well with it. He has a great rock voice with warmth, depth and conviction. But where’s the Whitesnake, man? Randy: “You made a slightly emo version of an extremely pop Lionel Richie song. I thought that could be a single man!” Paula: “That was fabulous.” Simon: “That was a very brave thing to do. And I loved it!” He’s definitely in the final 12. A
Jason Castro (“Hallelujah” Jeff Buckley/Leonard Cohen) He pulled out a dread on a date. That was his embarrassing moment. Okay. Anyway, isn’t this a ’90s song, too? Maybe they gave them an extra decade! He got rid of the guitar and decided to focus on the vocal. He’s got a wonderfully pure vocal and a sweetness about him. He botches the soft point at the end and knows it. This is kind of a melancholy song and he’s a wee bit too happy go lucky. “You did a pretty good job. It’s a tall order… I give you props for it and give you props for going out with the guitar, showing a different side.” Paula: “You made it sound so effortless, with ease.” Simon: “I thought it was absolutely brilliant what you did. Loved it! You are getting better and better and better!” B plus
Chikezie (“All the Woman” Luther Vandross) He surprisingly gets the pimp spot. His embarrassing point: he had been using a girl’s bathroom in high school. Smart song choice. He’s a perfectly good singer but for some reason, I just don’t feel him like Luther. I’m not sure what he’s missing. It’s hard to pinpoint. Randy: “You did a good job. I was really impressed.” Paula: “Your vocals sound really good tonight.” Simon: “I don’t think that worked at all. You were okay in bits. It was much more cabaret than last week.” B

It will be interesting to see how they hold up under the intense pressure. I can’t even imagine.
D was right in an earlier thread. If David was just a stripper it would be more tolerable, but since he was a nude lap dancer at the gay bar it just gives off a seedy, prostitution appearance.

I personally don’t care if the dude stripped or not but I will use this ocassion to tell a funny joke.
Three gay men died, and were going to be cremated. Their lovers happened to be at the funeral home at the same time, and were discussing what they planned to do with the ashes.
The first man said, “My Ryan loved to fly, so I’m going up in a plane and scatter his ashes in the sky.”
The second man said, “My Ross was a good fisherman, so I’m going to scatter his ashes in our favorite lake.”
The third man said, “My Jack was such a good lover, I think I’m going to dump his ashes in a pot of chili, so he can tear my a** up just one more time.”

LOL!!!! you guys are nuts! yeah. totally.
tmz is about to come on, the half hour before AI… i know all the network fox news was going on and on about David H… it will be interesting if TMZ says ANYTHING about their posting of the Danny thing. shiver it’s just SO wrong!…YES…they are going to cover it! THAT should be grounds to tell ol’ Danny-boy that he’s OFF the show, and just bring back whoever last left to round it out…. or vote off only 1 or whatEVER.
it’s just WRONG!
by the way, it’s funny to watch the news and they say “will David Hernandez’ stripper past get him kicked off the show” when the AI folks have already addressed it in a press release… can we say sl-o-o-o-o-ow??

Neg, I thought that might throw people, but decided to include it anyway. I just find some stereotypes to be humorous. So where someone may say that I’m not gay because I’m married and have a kid, I would say that I’m not gay because I’m not a man who enjoys having sex with other men. This particular stereotype breaks down due to the prominent cases where it’s discovered that a married men with kids enjoys having sex with other men.

Three good (not great) performances out of 8 wasn’t so I’ll put my money on the women. I liked David, Michael Hutchen… sorry, the Australian guy, and the guy with the guitar. Still haven’t memorized their names. Everyone else was mediocre to p** poor and I know the women will outshine them. They can only do better. Danny Noriega HAS to go. He and his hair have grated on my last nerve but we may see him anyway because he is a fav or VFTW. They should only crash and burn.

A question…Do you think Idol put out the fake song list?
The boys surprise me every week.
David Cook…I never thought much about him but he was frickin brilliant tonight
Jason Castro….It was a beautiful performance of a beautiful song.
Michael Johns….this guy is a rocker but I’m still waiting for a ballad.
4.David Archuleta…good job, a few flat notes…not his best
David Hernandez…that took guts tonight and he pulled it off.
Chikezie…Very nice
Luke..but only cuz Danny really has to go…
Danny…that being said, I love his attitude with the judges, he’s funny…too bad about the Christmas video…it makes him look like a sick idiot!

First of all I’d like to say I completely wasted my time with those Song Spoilers…however Danny did sing Tainted Love, which was on the list…
Luke Menard- Bad, bad, and bad…Simon’s right, but here we go with his declarations of who will and won’t make the top 12.
David Archuleta- Good, not as good as last week, but still good… and I have to say this kid really is digging himself a hole of success. He’ll be on top every week on DialIdol, so why not call it a season? But.. I still believe we have others to see.
Danny Noriega- Do us some justice and vote him off! Or in other words, don’t vote for him. Simon is right on tonight!
David Hernandez- Good, but strange song choice. I really like David so I’m counting on him making the top 12… too bad he’s in danger on DialIdol already… I’m voting for him some just in case.
Michael Johns- Simon’s right on!…I bet he was comparing him to Kady Malloy…hopefully she can pull through too. Right when he started I was like man, come on we still are waiting on a nice vocal performance from you.
David Cook- My dad says he looks like his head was squeezed with a vice. I happen to quite like him… and thank god he did the right thing tonight.
Jason Castro- I’m happy to see that he can actually sing… but I didn’t think it was as good as the judges thought…I still don’t think he’s good enough to go very far, but he is still unique.
Chikezie Eze- Mmmm, see good vocals, but I wasn’t crazy about it. I thought his last note he’d blow it away, but as long as Danny and Luke are eliminated, then it’s fine with me that he’s in the top 12.
WHO SHOULD GO: Definitely Luke and Danny. Will it happen? I don’t know… Danny seems to have the backing up trail of fans… I hate the attitude.

OK, here you go…
ONE - David Cook. This guy is getting scary good, better every week. He is now a top tier contender.
Two - Jason Castro. He is also getting better each week. If not for a grand slam by Cook, his home run would have been the best of the night. He actually CAN sing after all!
Three - Jacuzzi. Great job. When he avoids being a total cheese ball he’s a stud singer.
Four - Archuletta. Good but not great. A little slow and blah vocally. Back down to earth for the little giggle boy.
Five Hernandez. Gay, nude lap dancing aside, he did just an OK job tonight. Nothing special, nothing horrible.
Six Michael Johns. Two straight sub par performances has his top tier status in serious doubt. I think we are now seeing that once he leaves the rock/soul genre he is well below ordinary.
Seven Luke Manard. His Wham performance was so gay I began to wonder if it wasn’t really him who used to be the gay lap dancer. He’s history.
Eight Danny Sanjaya. So feminine it makes you want to cringe. So over the top womanly it probably embarrassed Hernandez. I wouldn’t be surprised if he offered David H $20 for a lap dance back stage. Besides his female impersonation shtick, his vocals, song choice, and arrangement were all terrible. Consider him gone.

Been doing fantasy baseball stuff getting my league draft ready so I am a little late with my ratings tonight.
David Cook - Hello - This may have been the performance of the season to this point. Absolutely friggin brilliant. Print it, cut it, sell it and it is top 10 next week.
Michael Johns - Don’t You - I notice some have him pretty low. I thought this was a great vocal, I really liked it.
Chikezie - You’re All I Need - His best performance of the year. This is the Chikezie we saw flashes of in the audition and Hollywood.
Jason Castro - Hallelujah - excellent vocal from Jason. The kid really does have a great voice.
David Archuleta - Another Day in Paradise - I am actually shocked I have him this low, considering I thought the performance was great when he did it. But, as the night went on the others stepped it up to a new level. I still think he is the front runner, but he was just one of 5 good performers tonight.
David Hernandez - It’s All Coming Back to me now - Not horrible but not great either. A little pitchy in spot, a lot nasally, and he verged on shouting the big parts. his worst performance so far.
Luke Menard - Wake me up before I gogo - OK, Luke my boy, a little fatherly advice here : NEVER EVER EVER TELL A STORY INVOLVING YOU AND A TUTU AND THEN SING GEORGE MICHAEL!!! beyond that, it was OK.
Dannyelle Noriega - Tainted Love - In paula speak : two words - SUH UCKED!!!!
Should leave : Danny and Luke

I wont be able to blog again until tomorrow evening, because of new management so I will be looking forward to the ladies. The fellows stepped it up tonight and hopefully the girls will do the same. If not, at least the scenery will be nice. Except for skunk head aMANda. I’m hoping Kady can step it up. We will see. Good night.

Justin-very simple—I still have Robbie Carrico on the brain. Scary, eh? That’s why i keep calling Jason Robbie. As for Danny—I think people are unnerved by his rather effeminate looks. He actually sang well tonight.

Top 3 for me were David Cook, Jason Castro and Michael Johns in no particular order. David A was a bit of a letdown, but I feel he’ll come back strong. David H and Chikezie were adequate. Luke’s song choice was strange. Think he sang his swan song. Danny was like fingernails on a chalkboard - my skin was crawlin’. And after the Santa rant he’s got to go!

In light of the recent TMZ “discovery” of Danny’s foul mouth and foul personality and nasty thoughts, i think that AI should announce thursday night that “Mr. Noriega has had to leave the show unexpectedly, so we will only be voting off the lowest vote-getter in the guys” … probably Luke goes with. They don’t need to explain, they don’t need to elaborate, or make excuses or anything else. Just get the guy off the show. If anyone missed it, go to the TMZ that Mike S posted in the first post of this blog.
Otherwise, I’m pretty much in agreement with the order that Neg has. I didn’t think Michael was that strong, sorry Mike.

First for the bad: well David H. could rip the head off a bunny on stage, Luke could punt puppies into the crowd and I would still like them immensely more then Danny. I didn’t like how he did the song, hated the attitude and catty comments. He isn’t joking with Ryan and Simon, he is simply a rotten person.
I disagreed with Simon’s comments regarding Chikezie, he wasn’t the best of the night, but if you need to find out if it is a Whitney song before you rip on him then there is something wrong.
Otherwise, it was a great show, some good some bad, but I can see that we can have a great top 10. Maybe it was the 80’s songs. I look forward to David A., Michael, David C., and Jason being around for many weeks to come. It would be nice if David H. could be there too(if it was up to me he would be.) In my mind the strong side is really swinging to the guys, there are a few consistent women, but the rest need to worry.

Why do I get that scary feeling Danny Sanjaya will be haunting and torturing us for at least another 2 weeks. It’s a disturbing deja vu I can’t seem to shake.
By the way, is it possible for us to vote Paula off the show? She is totally worthless. IQ of about 30, high/drunk all the time, and incapable of putting a single sentence together. She’s as annoying as the Sanjayas at this point.
When seeing how she was relatively coherent (and far, far more attractive) in the season 2 rewinds, one can’t help but wonder what she’s done to herself the past 5 years.
My guess: “Here is your brain. Here is your brain on drugs.”

Danny N. I totally agreed with Simon. That was a mess, purple hair or not. The singing seemed too over dramatic and the catwalk performance was too much posing. Sorry, I don’t care if it gets you a soundbite the next day, going “Whatever” to Simon really makes you look like a brat then a serious artist.

Morning mushblogians!
Hey Janie…I was on last night…so was Mike!
It seems like a lot of people scored the top 4 as David C, David A, Michael and Jason. But michael is in the bottom 3 on dialidol so there’s a lot of you out there who are not voting. Why is Danny so high…because this is the time, while there are a lot of contestants, when VFTW and their ilk are their most powerful.
The girls have some work to do because other than a boring performance from Luke and a quirky performance from Danny, the guys were rally good last night!

If you read the AI Executive Producer’s comments re David Hernandez in Rodney’s post above you will see he will not be pushed out by AI. I also doubt his “past” will be much of an issue with the majority of voters. It IS a singing contest and he’s done a great job the last 2 weeks. Simon’s comments were definitely a vote of support for David last night.
Danny Noriega’s juvenile comments on a You Tube post should be viewed for what they were, silly ravings by a Emo/punk wanna-be. Again, I think it’s much ado about nothing. Danny may be a bit feminine, nelly as we say in the gay community, but he’s also funny, self-deprecating and self confident. Do you know how much courage it takes to be “yourself” when you’re out and gay in high school today!?! He’s also NOT this year’s Sanjaya. Danny has a good voice and provides a interesting couterpoint to the other contestants. It’s about time AI embraced a fun, self-confident gay contestant!
It also seems to me that many of the comments on here regarding David H and Danny are uninformed at best, and bordering on homophobia at worst. A gay male stripper should be judged no differently than a straight female stripper regarding their past. Danny’s persona is no different than someone embracing a butch sports-jock persona. If that’s who they are it’s simply who they should be. Get out in the world people and meet someone “different” You might be surprised. Positively.

my problem with Danny and the rant he posted online is this: Last year Danny auditioned AS that punk wannabe and was rejected. THIS year, he said, in one of his taped things, that the only reason he did the punk thing was that “he was trying to do something different that he thought the judges would like, and that he made a mistake and chose the wrong thing, that it wasn’t really him” ok. if so, then when exactly did he do his little xmas b/s??? obviously long after the auditions were over, right? but if it wasn’t really HIM and he did it only to get on AI, why was he still doing it. ERGO, he lied.
In addition, I personally feel that the xmas rant is over the limit, over the top. it’s there, permanently, for the world to hear/see over and over, and if he continues to succeed, kids who “idol-ize” him will find it and see it and hear it, over and over. youthful indiscretion? definitely. unacceptable behavior? imho, yes, definitely. should he have consequences? imho, again, yes, definitely. if he was punk violent stupid last year, and gay swishy cutie mr. sensitive THIS year… what will he choose to be NEXT year??? and the year after?
he needs maturity, but he also needs to understand that, maturity or not, his choices WILL have consequences. i have now come to believe that he’s a con artist! he’s using whatever works! punk didn’t. sensitive gay boy is working. i don’t trust him!
just my take, and it has NOTHING to do with gay-ness or lack thereof.

I’m just going to ignore Duke(BTW, welcome back Duke, long time, no rant)
Downtown guy, you make valid points about both Danny and David. I’m going to assume they are both gay although we have no proof of that. And yes, there was a lot of homophobic reaction…however, you’re assertion that David being a stripper should make no difference to the voting public leaves out the fact that he also was a lap dancer. Two different things in my opinion. While I understand that stripping is a form of entertainment, lap dancing is much closer to prostitution. Getting paid to come in close physical contact with a client for the sole purpose of…well, you know what the purpose is!
To me, that difference is significant and would be whether he was dancing for men or for women…and would be if the dancer was female.
I like David….he’s a good singer and he seems like a nice guy. I hope he makes the top 12 and I hope he does well in the contest. But to say that his background won’t affect the voting is naive. There are people who won’t vote for him because of his background….AND there are people who will try to start a movement so that David H. can win.

“I hope Santa Claus rapes your #ing mother?” well all righty then! And you want this to be your American Idol for younger kids to look up too? Its ok though.
America is simply being amused by this colorful animated character. We have one every season. Sandy(sanjaja) Chicken Little, the red headed guy who sang in the old Frank Sinatra style, William Hung(who was is and ever will be Clueless) So its Ms D’s.(Danny N. if your nasty)shot at 15mins of Flame. I mean fame. Its cool. Enjoy him now. He will disappear real soon. The other guys are far superior. My fav of the night was the fellow on the guitar with the short brown hair forgot the song. The 17yr old of course is in a class by himself. The Australian guy..is a professional he holds his own. Chickeezee..I have a job for you on the LOVE BOAT..he would do well on a cruise ship. not good enough to by a whole cd by. His persona is a little square..nothing distintive or Stand out about his voice..Nice range but nothing special sorry chick, your just an Ok singer.kinda like Ruben. Soulful but locked into one genre of music.perfect voice for you and your date at a R&Bs Cocktail Lounge, BBQ grille joint or a /Friday/Saturday Night. Ms.D..your 15mins of Flame is about to die out. Danny has a decent voice if he would only drop the over dramatic punk/gender confused act. Like one post said..Just wear a dress. No one will think anything different. Folks will form their opinion regardless. Henandez did not first seem like he danced nude on guys laps but hey atleast he Butches up for the viewing audience. But now that the girls Know who he really likes..this could hurt his markeablity since mostly young teenage girls buy “male” singers music. When they determine hes really singing to a guy rather then a girl..they loose interest, sales fall off, record company drops him. I wish him luck anyway.

kf, I liked the boys last night as well. The girls have a lot to live up to.
Sorry you were put off by the comments. But this place has always been a little ‘slice of society’ so we get to hear all sorts of opinions…wanted or not, valid or not. I know that it’s one of the reasons linny and I stayed after the division this year.
When I talk to people, I want to hear what they think…whether I like what they think or not. I don’t want to exist in a Stepford world where everyone nods in agreement, smiles and toes the party line.
Am I offended by some of the statements….absolutely. Am I irritated by some of the contributors? Without a doubt. But I learn about the world around me and learn not to put too much weight on the words of the offensive in the same way I shouldn’t put much weight on the words of the people who agree with me.
It isn’t fun sometimes but it’s worth the effort.

Since the Exec Producer can make this comment, “We’ve had strippers on the show before [that would include season one finalist Nikki McKibbin] …We’re never judgmental about people who do things like that. If it were some sort of heavy porn, then maybe we’d have to take action. But certainly not on this,” Warwick tells TVGuide.com.
AND THIS WAS ALSO INCLUDED: In previous seasons, Idol execs have avoided establishing hard-and-fast rules about a contestant’s past. (When it was discovered that Frenchie Davis posed topless for a website, she got the boot, but when racy pics of Antonella Barba showed up online, she was allowed to stay.)
It must mean that if you are not African American, you can do just about anything and remain on this show. What a bunch of crock!

Nikki announced to AI BEFORE the show started that she worked as a stripper. Scott Savol told AI BEFORE the show started that he had a police record. Bo Bice told AI BEFORE the show started that he had been charged with possession. None of this info got out to the public until somebody leaked it…The show didn’t talk about it until AFTER it was leaked. Either, in this case, they knew about the stripping ahead of time, or they’ve broken their own rules. I’m sure we’ll get clarification on it eventually.

However, since I have no experience with strip clubs, I’m just spouting off! But, I bet I’m with the majority of females when it comes to lap dancing. “Get that nasty-azzed b*tch off my husband! :-)

whew. one of those days, i see! Deirdre, we can tell people over and over and over about ignoring the idiocies of certain people and certain TYPES of people, but they will never get it. This blog IS a slice of life… we’ve had rants about just about every aspect of life here, and always someone is offended.
on the racism rant, all i can say is Ruben and Fantasia sure had great tans for white folk!!! (just a little tongue-in-cheek humor there, folks). on the gay rants… with me what a person does with their personal life is just that … “their personal life”.
IF someone with an alternative lifestyle to the straight missionary monogamous whatever whatever lifestyle becomes famous, they have to expect that their personal choices WILL be made public, and WILL be discussed, usually both pro and con. It’s just a fact of “public life” that your personal life becomes public. It’s still your choice. People will also still choose to talk about it, either favorably or not, usually.
Slice of life… you get good, bad, ugly, and beautiful… you learn to deal with it appropriately — or not. only thing i’ve found to be an absolute truth is that you can’t hide from it.

Sorry, Shaun, I don’t recall that conversation…but I could just be a little fuzzy.
Deirdre, yes, this blog has been a “slice of society” as you put it. Which I guess also translates to homophobia, innuendo, and jokes.
We’re definitely coming from different places regarding this issue. Do I agree with David’s choice of being a stripper? No, I do not. Do I always appreciate Danny’s attitude? No, I don’t. But the fact is that today is still takes a great amount of courage to be an “out” gay person. To be confident in who you are and accept yourself when everyone else mocks you, or tells you you are wrong. No one can really understand it unless they’ve been there…
I guess we’ll just have to disagree about this. It honestly sucks (for lack of a better term) because I really like(d) this blog and looked forward to sharing my opinions on the show with all of you. That was my main purpose for being here, which is why I abstained from giving my views on politics, Michael Vick, religion, and all those other “controversial” topics.
Maybe whenever the gay bashing goes away I may come back. I just don’t really feel very welcomed here now.

kf, you’ll always be welcome here!
Think about leaving a little longer…and here’s why. Most of the jokes and comments yesterday were made by people who have little or no experience with being gay, having gay friends or relatives. They speak mostly out of ignorance and also because hetero men a frequently uncomfortable with gay men. When you’re here and offering your opinions, it gives them the chance to interact with someone who they wouldn’t ordinarily talk to.
That’s what I always liked about this blog. Because we can’t see or hear each other, we have to depend on our words and the words of others. There’s not the automatic prejudices that comes from seeing someone. “I’m not interested in what you have to say because you’re(fill in the blank…old, young, male, female, black, white, Jewish, Christian, Chinese, gay, straight).
You, by being here, allow someone who might not ordinarily interact with a gay person to get to know you. And getting to know someone breaks down built in prejudices.
The guys will tell you that they were just joking, and they were. Next time, remind them that you belong to Danny’s club :-) and tell them they’re offending you. The good ones will stop and the bad ones don’t count.

kf — please reconsider leaving. i happen to agree with you — coming out about ANYTHING is hard, and being gay is particularly hard, and has always been. But your input on the show is what is important. The ignoramuses will be around no matter what we do or say, not just here, but anywhere. isn’t it better to just ignore them, not let THEM rule your decisions about what you want to do or say???
can’t you see that MOST of the people who post here regularly don’t HAVE an “anti-gay” agenda, or a “racist” agenda — we’re here to discuss AI. as long as the blog is a public blog, which it IS…there will be idiots who want to make trouble. they LOOK for buttons to push. and when people react, they just are totally gleeful about it.

i don’t care if danny is gay or not. the xmas rant wasn’t by a “gay guy” it was by a “punk” wannabe, but it was over the top wrong. and it’s there for every kid to see, and the more there danny is on AI, the more people will be googling his name… and they will be finding the xmas rant… just what you want your 10 year old to see. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH “GAY”.

All female strippers give lap dances. At the vast majority of clubs, they are very SEXUAL, GRINDING, GROPING acts that induce the men get sticky in their pants. Many, if not most, also engage in prostitution and try to get the men into private VIP areas for hundreds of dollars where most, if not everything, is done for a price. I kknow this from personal experience, so take my word for it.
Now, it seems that with male strippers there are two different types of clubs. There’s the kind where men strip for women at Chippendale’s style bars, but don’t do any groping or grinding. In fact, I think they are forbidden to get hard if I’m not mistaken.
Then there are the kind like David H, who are nude lap dancers for men at more raunchy gay bars. These types are much, much more likely to be gay prostitutes, and I’m sure the majority probably are. It’s a very good bet, therefore, that Mr. Hernandez indeed was a gay prostitute when he was in the lap dance biz.

Shay same thing that happens all over blogs everywhere…there are usurpers who come in and make trouble. you can deal with it, you can ignore it, you can go start another blog, you can just not blog anymore, you can try to argue with the idiots, so many ways to cope with it, all suitable to one or another. It’s not just this one. As D’s said many times, if you think THIS AJC blog is bad, you should read some of the OTHER ones!
I too am sorry if someone, anyone, is offended by some of the comments made by troublemakers. I am offended by some comments made by people who come to this blog. I just choose to stay here and try to deal with it. I refuse to let others tell ME where i can and can’t blog by “running me off”… it’s just my nature to be too stubborn to let someone do that. If that bothers anyone, well, life’s tuff, and i’m not apologizing for being myself. I tried explaining and all THAT did was offend yet another group of people. Lesson learned. I’m me. I’ll blog where and when I want. I’ll continue to TRY to have respect FOR and get respect FROM those i blog with, and the idiots can fall by the wayside. If someone else chooses another route to deal with the offense, that is absolutely 10000000% their right and privilege and even obligation to do so. I’m not dictating to OTHERS where to go or what to do. And i won’t be dictated to.
now. i’m getting a little perturbed by the whole thing. so.
Girls, you better bring it tonight… for all the touting of the talent this year, i’ve seen a lot of mediocrity on both sides of the gender line. Time to step it UP… the guys did last night, so gals, bring it ON!

One of those rocker guys could have tackled that song Dance the Night Away by Van Halen but I am not sure that song was from the 80s:-/.well we had 70s last week and they passed on all those good songs..Where are these folk getting their songs from? I nominate this as post of the year!
Thank you, Shaun. Yes his name is Barack Hussein Obama Jr. - named after his father Barack Hussein Obama Sr. Hussein is a common name in many middle eastern and african countries.
Do we hold it against co-workers if thier names are Dahmer, Manson, Bundy, Gacy, or Clinton (Ok I couldn’t resist)?
No we don’t, and I say that as a person who is about as right wing as it is possible. Obama’s name is just that - His name! It means nothing more than that is what mommy and daddy named him.

Hey Diedre!!! I haven’t been around in awhile, so thanks for the welcome back. Boonies are ok, not my cat though - and this one is CRAZY! Glad I am getting paid to take care of her!!! I was wondering if anyone caught the comment by Randy about Michael Hutchence and down under - I was thinking -what does Simple Minds have to do with that? Sometimes his attempt to name drop really bites him in the booty.
And about the Danny rant…all I can say is that may have been taken out of context, what was he replying to with the comments he made? Silly little Emo boy!!!! Still, don’t like his singing and the way he looks at the camera is creepy!

I just wanted to pop on and say good bye to the AJC blog forever. I know I have not been on as much lately but the rants and comments made the last couple of days have helped me decided this is not a place I want to be. You jump on Duke for his comments but they are no worse than what some others have been saying. Just more to the point.
We have all made mistakes in out lifetimes and I am sure we will all make more. Yes, as flats puts it, this is a public blog and people can say what they want but it seems that on this public blog, people do not seem to care about the feelings of others. I have tolerated many comments made during the time I have spent and most of the time enjoyed on this blog but unfortunatley there is not room on the blog for gays and homophobes (and you know who you are) to coexist.
With that said, every have a nice time continuing to cut every one down that is even the slightest bit different than you.

You know for some reason it seems that a few people feel if you don’t like Danny you are a gay basher, yet it hasn’t even been established that Danny is gay. Perhaps the self-righteous should take a long hard look at their stereotypes.

But the truth is, anywhere you look decadence is there. Television? Internet? Anything you want to see or do is there. There are also hateful people here and everywhere else.

Mike - Just had to pop in to respond to your post. Obama is absolutely NOT a Christian. Going to United Church of Christ once a month does NOT, repeat NOT, make one a Christian. Obama is PRO abortion and PRO gay marriage, therefore NOT Christian. True Christians believe in the word of God (the Bible), which says murder (of any kind) is wrong, and that there is a special place in hell for homosexuals. Don’t tag this man as a Christian and give CHristians a bad name.

sigh You CAN dislike Danny…everyone is entitled to their opinion, after all. It’s the comments made in reference to him that make some of us uncomfortable.
Personally, my issue wasn’t with anyone not liking his attitude or the fact that David was a stripper. (I’ve already stated that I don’t agree with them). It was the jokes and mockery. It’s par for the course, I get that. But if I don’t speak up on their defense or voice an opinion form someone who can relate to them, I would be a hypocrite. My being here isn’t meant to be anything other than another AI viewer discussing the show.
WE, I get what you are saying…and I agree. That being said, if I skipped everything that I didn’t like, I’ve done that as best as I can, but at some point you have to challenge people’s view. Besides, if I really did that I wouldn’t be reading the blog since yesterday (and who knows when I’d come back).

KellyFan, the roasting and mocking of the contestants is one of the biggest attractions to blogging. If they are too fat we’ll mock their fatness, if they are short we’ll mock their shortness, if they are exceedingly stupid we’ll mock their intelligence, if they’re overly feminine (males) we’ll mock their femininity, if they’re overly gangsta we’d mock their ebonics, if they’re dressing too provocative they’ll be called s**, too countrified they’d be mocked as rednecks, etc, etc.
Nothing and nobody is safe, so if you are an activist with a sensitivity to gay/feminine mocking of men this probably isn’t a great place for you. It is not the place for the politically correct, but the good thing is it is an equal opportunity mocking zone…no bigotry to speak of because everyone gets slammed, regardless of race, creed color or sexual preference.
That’s what makes this place so much fun!
By RC
March 5, 2008 12:07 PM | Link to this
In the end, I don’t care what the AI contestants have done unless they have committed some serious crime, etc.
I like Hernandez somewhat as a singer although he tends to sing sharp a good bit.
I’m sure all of the contestants are and have been human to some extent. We’ve all made mistakes….what’s important is that we learn from them and react in a way that shows we’ve improved. That’s about all we can realistically expect?

RC … it’s where i started, and where i prefer to be … idiots come and idiots go. payoff? gee, am i missing something here, i thought it was just a free, public, and sometimes crazy, blog. you mean i can get PAID for this????
~¿@
Seriously, though, I guess the bottom line is why should i let others dictate to me where i spend my words? I refuse to let idiots dictate my choices! so i try to ignore them, and sometimes when i can’t i try to reason/argue/respond as an intelligent, reasonable person.
Will i get respect from them? Nah. But then I don’t get respect from a lot of people who choose to make a judgment about me. Will that make me choose to go somewhere else or to stop blogging? I don’t THINK so.
Does it make me a better person to stay, or to go? My opinion: Nope. Neither is “right” except for the person making the decision. Wanna stay? then stay. Wanna go? then go.
i hope that i’ve answered your question at least from MY point of view.

RC - don’t need call ahead seating. Read the Bible for yourself. God tells us if we believe in Jesus, that He is the Son of God and that He died for our sins, and was raised from the dead, and if we call on his name, repenting for our sins and turning from them, that we WILL BE SAVED and that our names will be written in the book of life. And you are absolutely right, EVERYONE and ANYONE can be forgiven. IF they repent, ask God for forgiveness, and STOP committing that sin, God promises to forgive all.

Shaun,
I agree with that verse, and have no doubt that I also will be judged by God, since I know I have many faults and am nowhere close to perfect. I do try not to judge others, but I think we are all guilty of it to some level, it’s a human trait after all. Someone said above, whether a person is fat, skinny, gay, straight, black, white, etc. someone will be making fun of them (judging them) for SOMETHING. It doesn’t make it ok. My only saving grace in this situation is that I am not the one judging. I am only stating what God says in the Bible. I, personally, have a very close friend who is a lesbian. I love her dearly, however I also know that God does not agree with her lifestyle and, when she dies, she will go to hell. It is hard to deal with at times, but I answer to God and no-one else. Who am I to disagree with God?

I agree with you. I also try to remember that if a Christian had not pointed out my sinful ways a few years ago and told me that they were wrong in God’s eyes, I would also be going to hell now. One of the most important things we are supposed to as Christians is share the gospel with those who don’t know it. I don’t try to tell others about their relationship with God, not in a judgemental way. But if I don’t share God’s word with those who don’t know it, I am not fulfilling my duty as a Christian.

D,
You got me….I have no idea of what you’re talkin about ….what’s not flats? you think I’m saying someone else is flats? If so maybe you shouldn’t defend him so closely, I never implied that and really don’t know what you’re saying. But I enjoy talking about AI on different blogs, I am a fan of it that’s for sure.

I am not politally correct by any means. I don’t have a problem with someone talking about how Danny is gay as hell but please don’t quote the bible in condemning people. It makes you look stupid. Jesus said “those without sin cast the first stone”. By quoting the bible and throwing stones you are saying you are perfect or THAT YOU ARE A F*** HYPOCRITE. You know which one is my guess

Timthebrave, it’s a two way street. Think about it.
The blog did seem to have some intelligent dialogue on the matter already, so while we do some rehash, maybe I should do my “homework” for tonight and hunt down some naughty pictures of Ramiele.

timthebrave - read my posts carefully. I said I try not to judge others, but, as we all do, sometimes I slip. I also mentioned in one that I know God will judge me, because I am far from perfect. That makes me NOT perfect and NOT a hypocrite. I am an imperfect human, who was born a sinner, as we all are. The Bible DOES condemn sinners (all of us), it also says FORGIVENESS is free and available to ONE and ALL. Jesus came into the world to SAVE us sinners by offering that forgiveness. We have to accept that forgiveness too though, by repenting. Jesus never said live how you want, do what you want and I will forgive you regardless. He said come to me, REPENT and turn from your wicked ways and you will be forgiven.

About the chicks, I’m still hoping that Kady can pull something together. But if stinks up the place again tonight then she should go.
I will mute the tv and close my eyes while aMANda is performing because I just now got over the nightmares I was experiencing after that horror of a performance and appearance she had last week.
I feel pretty good about the rest of the chicks. Should be a good night.

OK , long post/rant whatever coming.
Why do I stay here - Because I was here first DAMMIT! I am not going to let any number of inbreds, morons, racists, activists, tree-huggers, idiots, bible-thumpers, kneejerkers, twits, buttholes, dumbarses, (am I being redundant here) etc etc etc chase me away from the blog I began on with AI, and that is my home. Be it a regular or a MPD or just a drive by dipstick, people on a blog are going to say things that are stupid or offend someone or attack someone. That is the nature of the beast and I just say to myself “shake it off bro”. and on those occasions I can’t I may strike back, and that is purely my choice.
Now on to a different subject :
Kellyfan, Mitch, anyone else - if I said something that offends you, I apologize. But when I do, TELL ME. Call me out on it.
For example lets use Danny. Yes I call him Dannyelle - because he acts like a girl. And the key word their is ACTS — it is all an ACT. I don’t know if he is gay, bi, hetero, or into beastiality; and I don’t care. BUT, I think his ACT is stupid. Just like his PUNK ACT, was an act last year. This year everything is choreographed - right down to the hand on the hip, the left palm toward the judges, the sashay, the pursed lips, the head bob, the rolled eyes and the “Whatever”. It is all acontrived little ACT, and it is annoying and stupid, and I am going to make fun of it. I am sorry if that offends anyone, but that is the way it is. He is acting, and I happen to think it is a horribly bad act, and I am going to comment on it. And in the end Danny can go home and kiss Mary or Larry or Fluffy and I don’t give a flip which one he does, but I will continue to comment on his ON STAGE ACT!

Big hug for Mike! And I agree! Even on the part about Danny acting. He’s a master at his schtick. He’s delighted that we talk about him. he did punk to get attention last year and he’s doing gay to get attention this year.
Frankly, if I were a gay male, I’d be offended by Danny!

I know there’s a new blog up but MikeS my friend, thank you for expressing, as USUAL, what I’m feeling in a perhaps more concise way. That’s EXACTLY what I was trying to say!!!
also, I have to second the request — if I say something to offend you personally, please, call me on it directly, not via secret emails and slander campaigns, but tell me you are offended and why…and then give me a chance to either
(a) apologize,
(b) explain why you might have misunderstood my intention,
(c) apologize AND explain, or
(d) tell you off [in the rare circumstance that you are so off base that it’s not worth trying to explain and i have nothing to apologize for!]
Sometimes words on a screen can be misinterpreted. WE ALL make mistakes, misspeak, say stupid stuff. God knows, I have!

Overall, I’d say there’s been a very good discussion in today’s comments.
A few observations: Negativo: Not all male strip clubs are sleazy. Grab your girlfriend, wife, female friends, whatev and head over to Swinging Richards on Northside Dr. You can see how the dancing/table thing works there and you might have some fun. LOL Also, “most” of the dancers are (supposedly) straight. They’re no more “gay prostitutes” than female strippers are prostitutes.
Deirdre, Mike S, Kellyfan: Thanks for some great comments.
BlkShepherd: Very Funny Man!
,,,=^..^=,,,: I understand your comments re Danny’s You Tube tirade. As an adult I see the childishness and sillyness in it. I can see why you wouldn’t want a young child to see it.
inferno: Some Christians believe in humility and not judging others. Many also believe that those who profess their piety the loudest are often the biggest offenders. If there is a hell, guess I’ll see you there, because this PRO Choice, PRO Gay Marriage, PRO Gay Rights, Liberal Libertarian, GAY, Athetist disagrees with just about everything you’ve said.
DUKE THIS ISN’T “LITTLE GREEN FOOTBALLS”! And ALL CAPS is SCREAMING in this world. Quit it. Thanks, DTG
ALL: How do you think the girls will do tonight?

Downtown…thanks! Good points. Although I really do NOT think you’ll get Negativo into Swinging Richards! :-)……but if you do, give me a heads up..I’d LOVE to be there!
The girls better be good tonight cuz the guys were very good. I like Syesha but I don’t think many others feel the same…not sure why. I’m also a fan of Carly’s and …I’m pretty much alone there, too!
Nothing new…I liked Kat a lot 2 years ago and nearly got my head handed to me every day on the blog! :-)

My predictions on who’s going home are Luke and Jason.
I hope Danny is going home, but I don’t see that happening any time soon.
