3/26: Who’s out in the top 10? It’s not Ramiele! It’s Chikezie!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The man with the coolest name in “Idol” history — Chikezie Eze— is gone. (Why he dropped the Eze, I’ll have to ask him tomorrow!)
The 22-year-old Californian was this year’s male R&B singer, but he was on the bubble entering the top 12. He had one incredibly memorable performance with “She’s a Woman” week 12. That helped keep him around a couple more weeks. But last night, his snoozeworthy Luther Vandross take showed he only stands out when he sings upbeat songs. Truly, the man has great vocal skills and he’s duly likable. But And is a competitive field this year. In some other years, he certainly would have gone further.
And the contestant who almost got cut, Syesha Mercado, can’t cut a break. She was in the bottom three again despite a solid performance. Jason Castro was also in the bottom three, suffering for doing the same thing week in and week out and revealing his
So I got two out of three right.
But Ramiele is safe again! What the…? Who the heck is voting for her? So for the third week in a row, I’m wrong. Honestly, I don’t think she’s ever given me a performance that I especially liked. Please offer me some theories people! She hasn’t even been in the bottom three. Is it simply because she’s cute?
Jason at least got an almost immediate reprieve.
Okay, here’s a quick recap of the first 50 minutes:
Group sing hell courtesy of Maxine Nightingale. Okay, Michael and David Cook— no more chest bumps. Milli Vanilli did it and nobody should ever do it again! Syesha stood out in a good way.
Then a long infomercial for iTunes courtesy of the top 10 as they record their “Idol” performances. And I mean, a really long infomercial. How much did Apple pay for that?
In order, Brooke & Carly are safe, Chikezie isn’t. David A. is safe. Ditto with David C. (Chris Cornell loved his version of “Billie Jean”). Syesha isn’t so lucky. (Boooo!!!!) Michael Johns is fine. Ramiele is, too. Later, Kristy (who gets props from Lee Greenwood) and Jason are up and Jason is in the bottom three.
After the 2nd commercial break, a pre-taped Q&A features a question from Atlanta- Sarah wonders if Chikezie is single. Yes, he is. Ryan jokingly reads off a phone number starting with 404. Brooke would duet with John Mayer. A couple of amusingly pointless questions for Simon. Then a lengthy “whatever happened to” for Kimberley Locke, followed by her singing her latest single “Fall.” She has lost 40 pounds (without mentioning “Celebrity Fit Club”) and she looks great though she squashed her pups in a bit tightly - not that I’m complainin’.
Great analysis Negativo, by the way.
If you missed the photos from the Melinda Doolittle appearance at Kroger, check them out here.
In other “Idol” news:
Despite a good show last night, “Idol” had its second lowest ratings of the year and the worst one for performance shows. Competition wasn’t all that tough so that’s surprising. The show finished at about 24.5 million (comparable show two years ago: 31 million.)
I also checked ratings year over year in Atlanta and they are down about 15 percent this month vs. March 2007. That’s slightly worse than the national numbers.
E! News reports that Katharine McPhee has signed a two-year endorsement deal with Neutrogena to become the new flawless face of the skin care company’s anti-acne product line. She knows how to amplify her strengths and modeling is one of them!

Just a moment to drop by and say hi y’all. It’s been 7 seasons and this one may have the best top 12 talent by far. Someone has to go. Syesha and Chikizie in the bottom 3 means they’re not getting more votes than the others who are not in the bottom 3, but it could be Kathy Lee going tonight. Someone has to go each week, we must accept that. Are Brooke and Kathy Lee weaker than Syesha and Chikizie? Probably and ultimately not.

So…it’s the end of the road for Chikezie. Now, we’re down to 9. I hate to see him go. But, we’re now at that point in the season where we will see folks that we think need and should stay be eliminated. At this point, though, it’s not necessarily a bad thing to be eliminated. Gives them the publicity, a great chance at a record deal, and less restrictions than the eventual winner. This is probably a good thing for Chikezie, but time will tell.

Syesha was in the bottom 2 because she was boring. Being a good singer is only half the Idol. You’ve got to be memorable, especially if you get put in the first part of the show.

Well I guess we can all agree on one thing, this show is merely a POPULARITY contest! Mark my words..and eat them. Because that’s the way it’ll always be.
1st Chikezie’s in the bottom 3, not surprised at all.
Then, Syesha! What, honestly, is wrong with America? She was amazing last night…this shows me that no matter what she does, let it be an incredible performance, she STILL would be in danger…it’s all so ridiculous to me and there are at least like 4 or 5 people remaining that I think should go before Syesha.
Same thing is happening to her as happened to Phil and Ace. Bottom 3 top 12, bottom 3 2 weeks later, and her downfall will continue.
I think it’s that thing where you’re cursed if you perform toward the beginning. It seems the people who mostly make up the bottom 3 performed toward the beginning of the night.
Jason Castro is in the bottom 3 next. I was a tiny bit surprised based on the fan base, but then again I was kinda hoping for it.
I do like his originalty, but if it were a singing competition rather than a popularity contest, Jason would probably be going home tonight.
Jason is safe first, what a surprise.
Syesha in the bottom 2.. again terrible decision…people need to vote based on talent..
Chikezie going home, phew!
Jason, congrats on probably securing yourself a closing show spot next week where you’ll sing an amazing … hint hint country song next week… yes that is a hint and if it comes true next week i’ll let ya know what i mean… it’s just my first thought when i think jason and country. Like 1 in 1000 chance of it happening though, but I bet he could do well.
Future advice for Syesha: I have no idea. You’re givin’ it your all… yet America still don’t seem to care.
LOL sorry bout all that rambling

Well it’s too bad that he is gone, there are worse people in the competition. Of course, lets not kid ourselves, he wasn’t top 5 material, but he should have done slightly better than 10th.

Neg proves to be fallible. I was convinced JC was gone after yet another droning, worthless effort, but apparently cuteness trumps talent until we get the herd thinned out some more.
Still, I am annoyed that Chicky is gone before JC or Ramiele got the boot, but he never really did click with the judges or the voters for whatever reason, so his days were numbered.
I think Sayesha falling to the bottom two after what was one of her better performances shows she has a very short run left on this show. Again, like Chicky, she just can’t seem to find a loyal base to support her.
JC is also on notice. His looks alone are not going to be enough to get him much further, and after his 3rd weak performance in the last 4 weeks he is running out of time. I underestimated his sex appeal with the ladies, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see him squeak through a few more weeks, but he will not sniff the top 5.
Archuletta is starting to scare me. It seems he could go up on stage in a Mickey Mouse costume, sing “It’s a small world”, and advance to the finals. I am more than a little nervous that his little girl groupies will not let him fall in the bottom 3 until there are only 3 left.
Ramiele has locked in the Polynesian/Hawaiian vote, and as we’ve seen over and over again, that base is powerful. She is around for at least 3 more weeks, so don’t even think about her being eliminated next week.
Kristy Lee has solidified a strong country base, so don’t start betting on her to be bounced anytime soon, either.
Carly has a very limited base. I see no room for error with her from here on out.
Life Support: JC, Sayesha.
Untouchable: D. Cook, Archuletta.
Vulnerable: Everyone else.

Another night of suspense is over and EZE was my prediction. I just don’t understand why all the slow and boring songs they sing. How many times does Simon and Randy have to say,”step it up” The night EZE sang the upbeat song and all three judges went wild should have registered with him as “maybe I should do more of these” Oh well, I like David Castro but I predict he will be going soon if he dont step it up. Kristi Lee did a sensational job with God Bless the USA. My favorite is David A. but the song he sang was pitiful, I had never heard of it. Michael Johns was the stand out singer this week, my opinion. I know a lot of people like Carly but I don’t and will be glad to see her go with her buddy Amanda. Oh well, next week will be interesting I’m sure. Until then…….

I have a theory that Brooke will be around for a while. Would not be surprised to see her and David Cook in the finals. It would be a good contrast and provide the good image v. bad boy kind of contrast that would make for a good storyline. I have to say that these elim shows are just dull. They need some way to shorten them or have two nights of singing & voting and just announce the week’s loser at the beginning of the new week’s show.

Deirdre, and anyone else who cares, have you noticed that the Ford commercials are focusing less on the car then they did in the past? I’m not complaining, they are always innovative, but it just seems that they are innovating the car out of the video spot
Group sing had a few spotty parts, and I am starting to wonder if they have backup singer help. The choreography was nice and corny, but I have a hard time believing that they were really harmonizing that well without some help.

I can accept that someone has to go, but at least let it be the one who deserves to be gone. How is it that Remiele is still on there. Her excuse every week has been because she’s sick, well, hey this is a competition, so what are they doing giving her the sympathy vote. There were so many others whose voices were cracking and their songs were lame. I’m sorry, but no song of Luthers is outdated.

OK, sorry, I LIKE castro. I ALSO tended to like Chikeze, tho he IS a bit old-school. MAYBE this show doesn’t have MUCH of an ETHNIC following, since there were two blacks and a DRED HEAD in the bottom three. I PERSONALLY thought Ramiele should go. I think David A may be the eventual winner, because that SONG was TERRIBLE and he STILL didn’t hit the bottom three. There IS some TALENT there tho, although I think the show has tended to get a BIT shop-worn lately. I am still a fan tho…you haven’t seen me POST much but I ALWAYS read you guys:) Lata…

Again, Idol is only half a Singing Competition, You can sing well (KLC, Chikezie, Syesha) but still not capture an audience. Others, like JC, The Golden Boy, and Remiele don’t sing as well, but have a strong backing niche, mainly the teeniebopper crowd, who tend to focus on looks / cuteness over talent… KLC would have a portion of the male half of that crowd if she’d slut it up a bit, Remi did that early with her play with Noggie…
Fortunately the mature voting community is larger, so an actual true talent will win.

Morning mushblogians!
I am a little disappointed that Chikezie left this early(not unexpected). I liked the guy a lot. But I think we probably all agree that Ramiele and Kristie should have gone before him. At least he was entertaining.
And speaking of entertaining, the huge yawn-fest named Jason needs to go or show us something more interesting next week. He has been warned! The same applies to Brooke. If all she’s capable of doing is sitting and singing the same types of songs(or different songs but making them all sound the same) she needs to go as well.

Chikezie’s “slow” songs were not “slow” so much as they were … not fast, LOL. Hard to explain my meaning… and Simon was a jerk, anyway… Chikezie OBVIOUSLY feels that his audience is important… and sings to it! Morning everyone. I, like many of you, am terribly disappointed that Chikezie is gone. He had a great voice and lots more stage presence than either Ramiele or Jason—especially more than Jason. Actually, I think his voice was as good as Ruben’s, but, as has been observed, he never connected with a fan base. David A took every opportunity to deny that someone else picked his terrible song this week. Methinks he doth protest too much!

Hey y’all…slightly surprised that it was Chikidude who left. I definitely thought it was Ramiele. It should’ve been. As for who’s voting for her, well, I think it’s what I’d like to call the “Jasmine Trias” effect. It is completely “nuts” to hear everyone refer to someones last performance as the dealbreaker for elimination or not. IT DOES NOT MATTER! Since folks vote to keep these people in, it could have easily been Sanjaya last year, or the chicken boy the previous year! It is who has the most fan base, no matter what. Ramiele is so smug, she barely looks at the camera/audience when Ryan speaks to her, almost as if the whole thing is a joke to her! If it is at all based on performance, then why in the world did the baby boy in the competition who completely forgot his words a couple of weeks ago get through? Well we know why, but put him up against anyone else and they all seem like complete professionals compared to him. I would have rather seen the kid who lived out of his car in this stage, would have made for a more interesting show. Syesha needs to go, divas in the competition every year are getting boring and they don’t stand out against someone original. Please, please, please cut out the “Partridge Family” numbers at the beginning. Let the baby boy do one of his own for his screaming fans, and leave the 25-33 year olds out of it. Is that what they actually do on their tours? Someone like Carly, David Cook and Michael must be cringing to do such numbers. Oh yeah, Dolly Parton next week, Lord help us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hoped Chikezie would stay longer but he really is bad with ballads so I understand why he is gone. Syesha is not original at all that is why she is in the bottom 3 every week. She sounds and performs like thousands of other people. She has a good voice but she sings diva songs about half as good as the originals

That’s what I was wondering, D, on Monday… will they be doing a Dolly songbook? or will they be doing “country” … and if generic country, how wide is the spectrum they will be allowed to choose from; AI seems to have been extremely restrictive in the “song lists” so far this year, unfortunately.
laughing D, i just got the funniest vision in my head of DCook singing 9-to-5 in the same style he did Billie Jean.
Please bow your heads for a moment or silence — Herb Peterson died Tuesday — He was the inventor of the Egg McMuffin in 1972 — may he rest in peace! It’s said he loved Eggs Benedict and wanted a “to go” version, and voila! there you have it.

She really needs a WOW preformance to make the waiverers to take notice and vote for her. Did anyone notice that Jason said he knew he would be in the bottom, but that would be the “shocker”. Obviously Kimberly Locke dressed without the luxury of a mirror in front of her. So, she lost 40 lbs. She needs to lose an additonal 40 lbs to even consider a dress like she wore. She was a sad joke. You don’t stuff 100 lbs of rocks in a 50 lb bag, when you do….you come out looking like her. Why the big surprise about the bottom three? Syesha screams every note, there’s only about what…a thousand of her screaming out some tired old Whitney Houston song on every bad talent show in America. I agree that Ramiele should have been in the bottom three. Simply put, she sounds as bad as she looks with her off the rack Kmart fashion. She looks so poor, my first inclination is to send her a check to buy some clothes. Vote her off so she can go to work and help her family. The Singing Midget will probably win the show. Hoards of clueless young girls and pedophiles will make sure of this.

it’s funny — some of the past years group sings have actually been entertaining — with the group singing together as if they were enjoying it — BUT… those years, there tended to be 2-3-4-5 people all in the same genre, same general background, same age, same vocal ranges, so the groups sounded more cohesive BECAUSE of the lack of diversity…. this year, however, the 10 (ok, 9) are extremely diverse, and the “group” just isn’t in any way cohesive. It’s a bunch of individuals performing together, and frankly, some of them seem exTREMEly self-centered. (to give credence to Simon’s comment to Chikezie, i do think some of this year’s contestants ARE just singing “for themselves” … it’s JUST a competition to them, whereas with Chikezie, it was an opportunity to do what he wanted to do—i.e., sing for people. if that makes sense…
in any event, the very diversity of the group detracts from any possibility of a cohesive group sing, imho.

D - yup, Bert’s kid is 1 for 3 in predictions this year. Is his record better than Rodneys? HA HA HA (just kidding Rodney, you know I luvs ya)
So, Kimberly’s dress was designed by Christian of Project Runway? That DOES explain a lot, he can only design for skinny models with no pups at all.

looking at the Parton songbook, the FIRST one that comes up is a song she composed, but Whiney sang “I Will Always Love You” … god please tell me this one WON’T be allowed!!!
in looking through the list, i came across dolly’s version of Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire” — there ya’ go, David Cook!!! have at it!
i’ll report back later if i find anything else interesting!
btw, the site i’m looking at has dolly’s lyrics, grouped by album, for songs she’s performed/recorded. here if anyone is interested

That’s what I was thinking Lara….he threw that huge fit about designing prom dresses and I realized that it’s because girls who have bodies like girls offend him. Poor Kimberly had to shove her ample pups into a dress made for a man.

Hmmm, it was hard to determine which was worse. The dress Locke wore or her singing. Both were equally HORRID. After McPhee I assumed they’d be a bit more careful as to whom they drug out on the stage. I suppose not.

Rodney and the rest of ya’ll, when are you going to wake up and realize that Idol is mostly a popularity contest and not a talent contest???? Alot of people vote for who they like, not who is the best performer. That is why I think part of the scores should be based on the judges opinion and not just the viewers. Too late for that now..

Briefly exploring other boards, it seems that next week’s theme is generally assumed to be Dolly Parton songs. I’m not sure if that’s confined only to the songs she has written or includes songs she has sung by other artist. My guess is only songs she has written.

Oh, I knew that D, and recorded it on an album also, but it was Whiney that made it “big” … but Dolly composed the song. So … we may be stuck with hearing someone sing it. again. In fact, when Whiney recorded it and such a big deal was made of it, i remember commenting that Dolly should get more credit for it. i mean, i know she gets the royalty credit and all that, i mean it ought to be pointed out publicly more often that its NOT a whiney houston song, it’s a dolly parton song!
oh i’m just making things more confusing, i need more coffee!!! later!

Dolly Parton: so we have “9 to 5” and that duet she did with Kenny Rogers. There you go the extent of my knowledge of Dolly Parton’s music. With that said I am looking forward to next week, I my not know many of her songs, but I do know her. She has transcended being a mere county singer to being a true celebrity. I am also going to predict more pup talk after next Tuesday’s show.

Hey guys D-Dolly did a bluegrass version of a rock song called “Shine” which was done by a group named Live (I think that’s who it is) that will be perfect for David Cook. He is absolutely me favorite in the competition this year. I also like Carly, and I think “Jolene” might be a good one for her. The Golden Child gets on my nerves even worse than Jambalaya did last year, did not know that was possible. I will miss ChickFilA, he was always entertaining.

I like David C., too but I think I’d like to hear him do something a little different. Dolly ought to give him that opportunity.
They all need to change it up a bit. Chikezie was good at that. The only other contestant that sounds different from week to week is Michael Johns and I think that’s just cuz he’s trying to find his niche.

Hey you Guys and Dolls: Out of the hospital now so I can post again.
Deirdre: Dolly wrote “I Will Always Love You” when she left the Porter Waggoner show to branch out on her own. This was her way to express to Porter how she felt about leaving. She also re-recorded it with Vince Gill a few years back and again, it became a number one hit.
If next week is all about her songs, I have complied a list for each contestant:
KLC: Coat of Many Colors or Here You Come Again
Carly: Me and Bobby McGhee or Even Cowgirls Have the Blues
Rami: Butterflies or House Where Love Lives
Seyesha: Jolene or Holding on to Nothing
Brooke: Eagle When She Flies or Coat of Many Colors
David C: Great Balls of Fire or Blowin in the Wind
David A: Making Believe or Everything’s Beautiful
Michael: Burning the Midnight Oil or Great Balls of Fire
Jason: Do I Ever Cross Your Mind or For the Good Times
Just know that this list is my opinion only.
Willie the Worm: As you so blatanty stated in your post several days ago, I don’t think that my posts are soooooo boring that they aren’t read. Apparently you read them, so what does that say about you? Oh, by the way, this post is loooooong, so there!!!!

Thanks menana, and welcome back! I’d like to hear Michael do Burning the Midnight Oil but not Great Balls of Fire. I really like linnie’s suggestion of House of the Rising Sun.
I think Brooke would do a great version of Jolene…or Carly. Two very different interpretations, I’m sure.
Ramiele is going to have some problems with these songs. I don’t see many that would be in her wheelhouse!
David C just might make Blowin in the Wind pretty special.

D. I have noticed that the last couple of times I saw Carrie Underwood performing live the Clark Brothers were in her band. I wonder if that is going to be permanent? Those young men are super talented!

Thanks Menana for the info on miss dolly..I had no idea shes goes back that far. And I thought I knew a little about music:-( She seems like such a sweet classy lady..No daisy dukes on her LOL..shes so much more classier than say Modonna and all of these trashy singers today. Christina, Britney(Yuck)Spears..but she was kind of cute as a receptionist.(Even though I cant see anyone hiring her as a receptionist..can I say Pee brain?) I will bet she cant even file correctly. But she would make a good office desk flower I suppose. You know, something just to decorate the front office. Oh before I forget Menana, Notice folks like willie the one eyed sand/roach eating glow worm is just lonely and looking for a response. You can REally tell who the folks with no life, no friends..they cruise various boards critquing folks posts..I am exactly with you..he/she/it has the right ones now..yup we are quite tough and aint going no where..As for long posts..I find your posts excellent..I love long posts..thats what we English Major grads do..we write long letters..lol.. Hey D-dre, If they gonna waste our time on AI having folks call in and ask dumb questions(is chickeezee single? who cares?)we should be able to call in and request the contestants cover certain songs! I want David Cook to take on Jim Morrison and the Doors! Breathe some new life in their songs which to me was way before their time(kind of like the beatles). A day in the life really reminds me of the signs of the times especially today. As well as John Lennons “Mind Games” Love those songs. I think David C.might be the answer and link to the past meets the future. Hey inch worm(willie the one eyed pyscho)oh I forgot your two busy counting words to see if I went over my limit. You poor lil insect you. Whats the matter? cant find any bugs to eat today?

D. Go to www.rickey.org/?p=6646 and there is an article and short film clip of Ashley Clark playing with Carrie. I saw her on something on CMT a week or so ago and they were all in her band.
