3/27: Chikezie exit interview

Chikezie, as an interview subject, was not terribly scintillating. Not surprising. He’s very mature, very clear thinking, but not quotable at all.
“I knew I was going home,” he said. “It was okay with me. I had followed my heart throughout the competition. Eventually, I’d have to go home at some point. I was fine that it was some point where I could go back and do the tour.”
I asked two questions— why did he drop his last name Ezie? He said it was because people kept mispronouncing it. It’s pronounced “Ezzie,” not “Easy.”
And what would have sung for Dolly Parton week next Tuesday? “9 to 5”! I would have been deeply amused by that. I’m also certain someone else will probably grab it. Come on, Kristy Lee Cook. Go for it!
He had no regrets doing a ballad Tuesday. And he liked to pick songs a little off the beaten path that he could mess around with, which is how he ended up with “She’s a Woman.”
He didn’t notice any tension backstage, including a reference to David Archuleta’s stage dad. He also didn’t catch any romantic linkages. His favorite future mentor would have been Andrew Lloyd Weber.

After refuting preshow rumors that she was pregnant, Carly Smithson, 24, dodged the elimination bullet, but admitted that one of the reasons she may have looked uncomfortable singing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” Tuesday night was because she was wearing slimming undergarments called “Spanx” in order to make herself look thinner onstage. “Apparently I’m pregnant,” she said. “But I’m not, no, I’m not.”
More guest stars for April 9’s “Idol Gives Back,” according to the press release: Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Forest Whitaker, Billy Crystal, Dane Cook, Kiefer Sutherland, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Jenniffer Connolly, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Amy Adams (not the AI 3 tenth place contestant, the Oscar nominated actress.)
The Clark Brothers, the winners of the failed Fox fall show “The Next Great American Band,” will perform next Wednesday.
Simon Cowell, in an ew.com interview was glad to see David Cook step it up and make it less of an obvious coronation of David Archuleta:
I think the audience are much more savvy than I’ve seen them in previous years, and much less forgiving, which I’m happy about. I’ve got a feeling this year something strange could happen, particularly after what happened with David Cook last night. Because, I’ve got to tell you, watching it back, this performance he did on “Billie Jean,” in my opinion, was in a different league to anything we’ve heard on the season so far. It was so much better, [chuckles] he kind of made some of the other performances seem ridiculous. But I’m glad! He was smart — I know where he got the arrangement of the song from, but that doesn’t really matter. He was brilliant! And I was concerned three or four weeks ago that this was just going to be a coronation for David Archuleta and it’s just a question of who comes [in] second. I’m not so sure anymore. And, you know, with Jason Castro last night — there’s a guy who thinks he’s just sailing along, and I thought it was a bad performance. You give somebody like him a kick up the ass, let’s see what he can deliver now. But I thought it was, um, an interesting night last night.
He also hates that crowd inserted in front of him this season.

Paula Abdul is speaking to Q100’s Bert Show every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. EST. She did so this morning and sounded coherent! She wasn’t surprised by Chikezie’s departure and was amused that Bert’s five-year-old son predicted Chikezie correctly (but called him “Cicheesie.”) She’s also going to be the first performer for NBC “Today Show’s” summer concert series April 25 at Rockefeller Center. I’m going to be in New York the weekend of May 30 and Donna Summer will be there. I’m going to have to check that out! (No “Idol” alums listed.)

Last week the dobro WAS played by Austin Clark, but all we saw in the performance night was his wrist with the cloth wristband playing the dobro — no facial shots. On results night, one pan of the band DID show Austin in situ. With regard to Carrie, i had not noticed the Clark Brothers being there, but I wasn’t looking either. I just adore her violin/fiddle player … for a long time I wondered if there wasn’t something between them, they interact so well. But then the Romo rumors started up, so i dunno … not that those rumors lasted long, Ms. Simpson saw to that, LOL!
I’d read on the Clark Bros website that they will be performing on the 9th in the Idol Gives Back — so the news of the 2nd is new news to me.
I wish Fox would give NGAB another chance but NOT on a Friday night! I don’t see why it would not work out well. And I liked the format of everyone comes back but only 1 band doesn’t get to perform, meaning they were the lowest vote-getters from the prior week. Although you had to feel a little sorry for all the preparation, lol!
In any event, having them perform will be a treat.
And thanks, Rodney, for the interview report; guess we’ll just have to keep looking for Chik’s name in the future to see if he does anything with his brush with fame and fortune.

IMO…. can’t see Cheesey doing 9 to 5. I will agree with what Simon said about the crowd in front. Don’t like it. It seems that the judges are to far back.Yeah, after JC got a boot in the pants, he will have to step it up alot and get really serious.

Rodney…I would have loved to hear Chikezie’s version of 9 to 5. No one else will do it quite the way he would have.
I think everybody, not just Simon, is relieved that Archie’s win is not as ‘in the bag’ as it once appeared to be. I think he’ll continue to score high but not necessarily far beyond the rest of the group.

Archie may not be the one to beat as it was said in the beginning. DC looks like he just may take it all and run with it. IMO, DA may do much better if he is allowed to choose his songs and not what the papa picks out. I do understand that a minor has to have a parent onboard, but not a whip master. DA just always looks a little to uptight and scared that he will let his papa down and then he will have to take the wrath. Woe is me to have a father like that. The final two may come down to both David’s, that is unless the ladies do something mighty drastic to up them into thenfinal two. It would come down to Brooke and Carly versus David and David.

apparently the resident troll is extremely inexperienced in the world of show business and photography, and is incredibly fascinated with matters sexual in nature. I am therefore of the considered opinion that this person is either an adolescent, which is not likely due to the times posting occurs, or more potentially an adult trying to pose as an adolescent. Not terribly amusing, but so far not exactly disruptive. Somewhat innocuous, i believe would be the operative term. in either event, this creature is obviously not worth sweating much about with regard to the blog. tolerance becomes a virtue, in such circumstances.

I didn’t think that Chickezie would be an exciting interview. Someone may just have to sound out that last name for me, I don’t see the difference in pronunctiation. I think anyone doing 9-5 would just be a bad idea, bad, bad, bad.
I knew that Ashley Clark was on the dobro. But he will also be in Carrie’s band. I wonder if that will effect the recording of the Clark Brother’s album? I really liked them on NGAB. I heard rumours that Rock Star was going to come back, so who knows. But I agree, the Friday time slot was not a good thing for that type of show. Why would you put a show about bands on a night when people go out to see bands? And YEAH!!! I agree with Simon on the audience thing - get rid of that - so distracting and so stupid. The arm waving thing is just ridiculous! Ok, how many excuses are these contestants going to come up with? You were uncomfortable because you were wearing Spanx? Puhleeze!!! Women have worn much worse - especially those on the stage in Operas….get over yourself….sorry, felt the need to rant for a minute. Oh no, was I rambling, no, surely I wasn’t rambling. I was typing about important stuff.

So who is going to tank when it comes to Dolly?
I have doubts regarding Syesha’s ability to find the right Dolly song. She’s been flirting with being eliminated for too long to have a poor showing. She needs to find a good song and give us a WOW performance, or she will be gone.
If Syesha does step it up, that would leave Ramiele in the vulnerable spot. She, like Syesha, doesn’t fit neatly into a stereotypical Dolly song, which makes it more difficult to find the right one for her.
After those two I think that Brooke and Jason need to change things up. The same routine gets tired after a while, we need to see some range and some challenge in order to keep their fan base energized.
Kristy Lee should be able to find a good song fit. Carly and Michael might have to dig a bit deeper to find something that they can shine with. If they can’t find the right song it will hurt, but elimination will only be a problem if the lower rung of competitors really step it up.
Personally I think that both David’s need to change things up, but they can coast for a few more weeks and still get by. They could come out yodeling and they would easily be safe.
Thoughts? Word count too high?

Lara: Wait until she wears a girdle and garter belts, then she can complain about how uncomfortable she was. She probably has never heard of a garter belt, let along worn one. I can’t wait to hear what excuse they can come with next week. You can be sick only for so long, not the entire season, unless you have something seriously wrong. You ramble all you want. We don’t give a hoot. I know, you can ramble until pigs fly.
Linny: Like your Ramble songs. I think that either Syesha or Rami will tank next week. Don’t think either one will WOW us. However, I have been wrong before. As I posted on the 3/26 blog, I named my choices for each one. If you want, you can go back and read my picks. I will study Dolly’s songs some more and see if I can come with more choices. I think KLC will do good on any choice, as well as Brooke. Carly may have a problem. DC and Michael may do well, if they choose an upbeat sone. Jason And Archie will do good with a ballard. This is only my opinion.

Hi, everyone. I was sorry to see Chikezie go this soon. I’m so ready to say bye-bye to Ramiele. And glad to see Michael knock one out of the park! I like David Cook, but wish he would do something original instead of a cover of a cover.
Next week promises to be interesting. I’m not a country music fan, but I do like Dolly. She’s so down to earth. Saw her on Johnny Carson one time, and he commented on her small feet. Her reply — “nothing grows in the shade!”
I still like Jason’s acoustic style, but he needs to step it up if he wants to stick around. He said he taught himself to sing. Would probably benefit from some vocal coaching. Saw some of the “stoner” comments about him. But I read that he is really shy. He isn’t a druggie. He’s a youth leader in his church. He and his family spent Easter Sunday together, going to church and then out to lunch. He seems to be a nice young man who hasn’t been around the business for years like a lot of the other contestants, and lacks their polish. I don’t see him winning, but I do hope he has a breakout performance and stays around a few more weeks.

Hubby and I watched The Kingdom last night. It’s a pretty good movie. Jaime Foxx is excellent and Jennifer Garner kicks some butt! I love having a Netflix account and recommend it to anyone!

Good Friday morning folks!!! I got to hear the interview with Paula on Q100 this morning. She was very nice and answered a lot of their questions. So is next week strictly Dolly? Or can they do country in general? If it’s country, then I think the perfect song for li’l Kristi Lee would be “Independence Day” by Martina McBride. Not only is that song right up her alley musically, but it’s also another chance for her to appeal to her fanbase of rednecks, neckcar fans, and flag waivers (even though there’s not one patriotic overtone to that song—they’re typically simple enough to believe otherwise ;)

Actually we DO have official word that Tuesday night’s theme is the songs of Dolly Parton. Whether that means just the songs she wrote or includes other peoples’ songs that she sang…I don’t know.
I laughed out loud at wholesale tanning lotion.

D, it really WAS 29 times, RH and I talked, LOL. He had to delete 29 entries to bring it back in line… went from like 172 “posts” on the count to suddenly 143… apparently either K’s key stuck badly, or the line between his post and the “publishing” software hiccupped at least 29 times, LOL!!!

Tonight and this weekend aren’t looking so good for TV, but the flood gates open next week. There are a lot of things returning. Personally I’ll be watching Hell’s Kitchen, Deadliest Catch, the original CSI, and Bones. Aside from watching the Portland Trailblazers that about sums up all the TV I ever watch.

As an independent observer of the battle between popeye and Blkshepherd, my score card shows popeye as the winner. Blkshepherd got some solid blows in but popeye kept throwing the quick jabs one after another.
