4/30: Top 5 Idol results show w/ Brooke White gone, Paula Abdul tries to explain gaffe

brooke white top 5.jpg

Jason Castro deserved to go tonight. Heck, he probably wanted to go home, take a little break before the tour and chill! But as recent weeks have indicated, the most obvious person hasn’t been going home. Instead, Brooke White is out.

And for the seventh time in eight weeks, I got it wrong. This is easily my worst year ever making picks. Thank goodness I haven’t staked any cash! You have to wonder if Paula’s flub actually helped Jason out.

I don’t think anyone is shocked or upset. But in the end, the ever tearful Brooke brought a sweetness, a singleness, a uniqueness to “Idol.” We never had anyone quite like her before. She’s the gal who didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, the gal Simon wanted to corrupt during the auditions but ultimately didn’t. She’s the new generation Carly Simon, a singer songwriter with a distinctive flair. She may not have had the best vocal chops but she has a real future ahead of her. I’m looking forward to what lies ahead for Brooke.

And not surprisingly, she messed up her post-elimination “I Am I Said” but she was so sweet about it, so human as she cried, it’s impossible not to feel for a lump in my throat. And as we talked about before here on the blog, I’m glad “Idol” allowed instruments because she truly took advantage of that new rule.

Mike S is right: Syesha wasn’t necessarily in the bottom two. Ryan never says she was and if dialidol.com is correct, she wasn’t. I’d say Jason was though he was the first pronounced safe.

Other parts of the show included a passable group sing (with David Cook doing the closest actual Neil Diamond cadence), a promo with Constantine (yes, Ryan asks him for “the look”) and Gina Glocksen for “American Idol Extra.” And Ryan didn’t address the Paula rumors directly but said she’s still duly employed with “Idol.” I’m surprised they didn’t let Paula explain herself to the viewers. There was a loooong promo for “So You Think You Can Dance” and a contest winner for the new Coke cup.

Natasha Bedingfield was the second Brit the British producers brought in. And an American treasure, Neil Diamond performed a fairly lame tune, then promoted his album in somnolent fashion. The pre-taped Q&A featured the gal he kissed as a nine year old. Can we have pictures?

In other “Idol” news:

-Paula Adbul — in damage control mode — did her weekly call to Q100 a week early to try to explain her, um, confusion last night. But she never really does, still clinging to that “I was reading my David Cook critique” excuse, which doesn’t make sense since she liked what he did. She said she did catch part of Jason’s second performance at dress rehearsal on a monitor. She also said the format change was thrown at the judges at the last second and the entire hour felt rushed and chaotic.

Check out an excerpt here..

Bert confronted her about her pain medication for her bad back and that the meds affect her more some days than others. Her response: “That’s a very sweet and thoughtful. I do have pain in my neck.I don’t take anything that makes me do anything to act different, especially on show days. I’ve never been drunk in my life. I’ve never done recreational anything in my life… I am a happy workaholic.”

To ETonline.com, she elaborated thusly:

“It got very confusing … the producers come up to us in the dark and said, ‘We are not going to have you guys judge after each performer, we are going to have all the performers go once, then twice and at the end critique them.’”

-The theme next week is the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. I presume that means songs from groups who are in the Hall of Fame (and get cleared by Idol). Or what?

-MTV talks to some of David Cook’s former bandmates of his band Axium, and they are all kind words.

Anything yet on your last interview part?

Talking about Paula, I take daily pain meds and I certainly DO NOT act the way she does. If I did, I would take the pain and not the meds. I do not like to be out of control for anything or anyone.

well at least this thread is “back to normal” in looks, LOL. That was definitely weird, the bolding stuff.

I don’t know what to think about Paula. She’s always maintained that she doesn’t drink, and i have no reason to think she’s lying — all the meds she’s had to take over the years, she’d know drinking would be downright dangerous. BUT… the accumulation of taking pain meds to maintain over all these years MIGHT have had some sort of cumulative impact on her cognition and ability to communicate. At least, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt on that. WhatEVER the reason, she IS a little loopy most of the time (and Simon’s pick-pick-picking does NOT help!)

whoever it was over on the last thread trying to post a link … the “(here)” should have been “[here]” in brackets, followed immediately with no space the URL in parentheses. You ALMOST had it right, lol!

Menana, i cannot imagine you “out of control” in that way, LOL! Just chattin’ with you here, I get the impression that you’re a very “take charge” kind of person … How are you feeling, BTW? How long before you get to go back to work??

Flats, sorry about your friend.

According to the doc, will have to live with pain for the rest of my life. IT WILL NOT GET ME DOWN!!!!!!!! Got to much to do at home, work and going to LaGrange every week-end to take care of my Dad. Kara… don’t you know anyone who is just naturally a “space cadet” “airhead” “bubblebrain” type person? Not saying that Paula IS but… she just reminds me of that kind of person. And … note that she’s been taking SOME pain meds for MANY years (the gal is NOT young) for injuries suffered many years ago… i just think that there’s some sort of cumulative effect of that… i could be wrong of course, i often AM… but Paula’s the perfect example of someone who’s brain has been … altered … by years of usage. All legal. But nonetheless it affects the brain.

Hey…I left for awhile…errands and such. Glad to see we’re back to normal here.

greg, sorry about your friend.

Re Paula….somebody I know who worked with her just about 6 months ago says she’s more loony in person than she is on TV. That’s kinda sad.

By Mike S

April 30, 2008 2:44 PM | Link to this

OK, I think I can talk to Paula’s issues with a little bit of authority.

about 5 years ago my wife was struck with a shingles outbreak that while it has lessened in frequency is still ongoing. Added to that she suffers from Fibromyalgia and Immuno-suppressed osteoperosis (she is only 49).

The shingles has cause extreme nerve damge to her right shoulder and hip, and she is in excrutiating pain 24 hours a day.

She takes multiple pain medications, and most days she functions normally, but her short term memory has been destroyed and she has trouble following really indepth conversations for more than a couple minutes, and gets tongue tied sometimes trying to explain something.

She was on a pain “oatch” for a while and was totally LOOPY a lot of times while on it.

As a result Paula’s behavior is not totally unknown or bizarre to me.

Now, all this has happened to my wife in a 5 yr period. Paula broke her neck THIRTY YEARS AGO and has been taking some type of pain medication since then. She now suffers from Reflex Sypathic Dytrophy which is basically destroying the nerves in her neck and back.

I garauntee Paula is on the Patch at a minimum and probably takes 2 to 3 other pain medications on top of that. Add to that Lyrica or Nuerontin for the nerve damage and you have a cocktail that, As linny said, is basically frying her brain.

Should Paula be on the show in that state? I don’t know, but I do know and i recognize the problems she is having with focusing, verbalizing and thought - I LIVE WITH THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Rodney..your first paragraph is a perfect description of Jason. He looked almost as spacey as Paula last night.

By Deirdre

April 30, 2008 3:03 PM | Link to this

Mike..why does she keep denying it then? She told Bert this morning that she is on nothing that would alter her behavior.

Seems to me, if she just talked about her meds, she’d gain sympathy, understanding and a little more respect for her situation.

…and to THINK Paula would even CONSIDER being a competitor on DTWS! What kind of nut-case would she be THEN? I hope for her sake, she doesn’t do it. It could mean the “end-of-the-rope” for her.

Hi War Eagle

Linny I do know people like that but the difference is they’re not on the most watched TV show bumbling things and getting them mixed up. If you go back and watch the first year with Kelly Clarkson of American Idol, Paula is pretty coherent. I agree with Deidre, whatever it is, she’s looney. Sorry about your wife Mike S. that has got to be rough for her and you.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

April 30, 2008 3:13 PM | Link to this

Mike, I’m adding you and Mrs. Mike to my prayer pocket! Lord knows you both deserve some uplifting!

I had a very close friend who had Fibromyalgia, among other things … went with her for a week’s stay at a pain management evaluation and clinic b/c her hubby could not get away from the Marines a whole week (and someone had to watch the kids)… I know how intense that can be in and of itself!

I just thank the Good Lord Above that He has blessed me thus far and while I have “aches and pains” in my joints and some sinus problems, I’m pretty darn lucky!!! especially to be 60+, LOL!!!

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

April 30, 2008 3:15 PM | Link to this

D, Kara, and others… i think the answer is that Paula herself does not feel “altered” … the change is gradual, the buildup over years…. and to HER, all is just ducky!

[if this is a double post, my apologies… i got a weird error message]

By Deirdre

April 30, 2008 3:22 PM | Link to this

My mom has the same problem…at least as far as taking pain meds is concerned. She was born before there was any checking for scoliosis. Her spine is currently collapsing in on itself….adding to that, she has osteoporosis and arthritis. She is currently on the Fentanyl patch plus a couple of other pain killers to take ‘supplementally’…which basically means, whenever the patch isn’t enough.

It is only when she has to load up on the extra stuff that she gets a little ‘foggy’.

So I question why…if Paula is indeed taking prescribed meds for a medical condition…she doesn’t accept that they are affecting her in a variety of ways and allow the public to understand her plight rather than just think she’s a crazy old drunk.

Something isn’t kosher here!

By Menana

April 30, 2008 3:23 PM | Link to this

Mike S: I can really relate to your wife’s illness. I also suffer from immuno-suppressed osteoperisis along with osteoarthritis disc and joint degeneration. With two hip replacements in less than two years (same hip), lower lombar and cervical fusions, I too, take daily pain meds. However, I do not behave as what we witnessed last night. Maybe Paula’s pain meds has taken a adverse reaction and that is the cause of the weird behavior we have seen. Ones system can become immune to medication and will cause weird behavior and does and will tear the body down. All I am saying is that if she is aware that her meds are causing her to behave like she is, maybe she shouldn’t take any until the show is over, unless she is in such acute pain that she can not put off taking it. If that is the case, she needs to have someone fill in for her. I do understand acute pain and feel for anyone who suffers it. It is not a pleasant thing to have, but you learn to deal with it and not to abuse pain medications (not saying Paula does), but to use it accordingly.

By Deirdre

April 30, 2008 3:27 PM | Link to this

Even if she doesn’t feel altered….she has to know she is just by the number of questions she gets on the subject and by watching herself on TV. There’s no shame in needing medication for a legitimate medical condition.

There is just something weird about it.

The theme next week will be Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll…and there’s a list of 500 of them.

IMO, if this is true…we will have the first REAL test of the remaining 4 Idols. I’m assuming they will be picking 2 songs each. This will tell us a lot about who they think they are as artists, something we have not been able to determine this year.

This should separate the men from the boys!

The question is clearance on some of the songs listed… always an issue, it appears.

But WOW this could be a truly interesting hour. Presuming 8 songs (2 each again)

But did you LOOK at the lists? Everyone from Patsy Cline to James Brown to Fats Domino to Devo; the Four Seasons to Flying Burrito Brothers… and that’s just the first little bit, LOL!!!!

Paula’s mess….I don’t think that AI is rigged, as many are trying to say. At the beginning of the show I got the impression that the judges were going to give their opinions at the end, (after both songs) I think that is what Paul thought too, and for some reason had her script already written. So it appears that AI may be scripted.

I’ve said this before, but Paula is a legend in the music industry and deserves a certain amount of respect. She is one of the best selling female singers of all time and truly changed the style of dance as we know it now by being the first, the VERY FIRST, to bring street style dancing into mainstream music videos. She introduced Janet Jackson to Janet’s style, and Paula has choreographed countless other artist’s videos and shows, movies, the Oscars, Emmys and Tony awards, and lest we forget, changed the Lakers cheerleader’s routines forever.

Dancing takes a massive amount of self-discipline and no one reaches Paula’s level without a monumental amount of it. Therefore, I believe her when she says she does not take drugs or get wasted on alcohol. There is no way that that woman can maintain such a killer schedule and be doped out.

That said, she is still a product of her profession in that dancers usually dance injured through a good portion of their career. Old age doesn’t creep up on a dancer, it smacks you in the face and punches you everywhere else.

I think she is, in reality, a benevolent space cadet. Brilliant people are often a bit eccentric and she is a brilliant talent. I’ve often thought Simon is actually being protective when he is being handy with her. She is someone who probably needs a bit of protection. IMHO. Thanks.

By JTesla

April 30, 2008 6:06 PM | Link to this

“benevolent space cadet” A4A, that is the explanation that I’m going to go with.

One thing that has only been touched on a few times in the last 24 hours is that last night Paula gave some of the harshest criticism she has ever delivered. Over the last few weeks she has not been the guaranteed nice person. Perhaps she sees a few of the contestants as lacking in will or skill and is hoping to shock them into improvement.

By War Eagle

April 30, 2008 6:23 PM | Link to this

By Deirdre

April 30, 2008 7:10 PM | Link to this

Even when she’s giving a ‘harsh’ criticism, Paula manages to find something nice to say…sometimes it’s transparently nice..but still nice. That’s why she’s a good balance with the other judges. And a welcome respite for some of the contestants.

I’m confused why people think this proves the show is rigged however. I don’t get the logic. For one thing, I had no idea taking notes during the dress rehearsal was illegal and for another, it was pretty clear Paula had taken her own notes because they didn’t make a lot of sense.

By War Eagle

My only problem with the Paula’s slip up is that Jason knew what Paula thought of his second performance before he had a chance to do it in front of the audience.

so, i was looking at the list, and there’s pleanty of teenie-bop 50’s milkshake songs for archie to pick. but here’s my new pet idea. what if david cook did “moondance”??? that has serious potential.

By Menana

April 30, 2008 7:36 PM | Link to this

Finally, some great songs to choose from. Next week should be very good. Maybe some Motown will be done. There were alot of songs that made a huge impact on rock & roll. Can’t see Jason upping his style, providing he is still on (hope he’s not). DC and Syesha should be able to nail it. DA and Brooke not so sure about them.

Was just watching Access Hollywood and they had an interview with Paula about last night. Her explanation was that she was caught off guard with the producers changing the judges remarks and was not expecting to have to give here comments. Some time last year, I saw a program where she was being interviewed about the rumors of drug and alcohol usage. In the interview, she stated that she has never been a drinker nor used any kind of drugs, other than prescribed pain meds for her long ago neck and back injury. She also stated that she had seeked other treatment to get away from the pain meds and that the treatment worked and she now only took pain meds when it was absolutely necessary and that the meds were much milder than what she had been taken. I think the interview was by Billy Bush of Access Hollywood. Maybe some of you also saw it.

According to Entertainment Tonight they will address the issue on tonights show. Paula is still defending her actions and trying to justify them. It will interesting to see how AI handles this tonight.

Dawn, you’re right. At the very least, Paula was/is just ‘phoning it in’.

And btw, I was reading through some of the posts earlier today, and you perfectly stated my puzzlement regarding Kristy Lee Cook. I too love country, and I would change the channel on her. Sadly, I think alot of people consider country to be the clearinghouse for those who aren’t good enough for pop (but can at least carry a minimal tune).

Songluvr - I think you’re right. I hadn’t thought of it that way before, but it IS like country music is a clearinghouse. But it is nice that country music has grown or become popular enough that a lot of other artists trying to crossover into it in some capacity.

One important thing from tonight — This episode featured some of Idol’s patented TRICKERY.

There is no indication that SYESHA was actual part of the BOTTOM TWO.

Ryan never once said “America this is your bottom two” like he has all season. They do this at least once a year.

All Ryan said, and he said it twice, is “One of these girls is SAFE and one is going home”. He never said that they were the Bottom 2, so Syesha could have been anyplace other than last.

Hmmm….here are my predictions for the top 4. I wonder how close I’ll be.

4th Place: Jason (he’s gone next wk) 3rd Place: Syesha 2nd Place: David A WINNER !!: David C on 5/21!!!!

I’m going to agree with Mike on this point. And, in this case, I appreciate the trick…I just hope it doesn’t backfire. I think they want Jason’s fanbase to be comfortable and not feel the need to fight for him next week.

We’ll know this is true if the judges go easy on him…not too easy but easy.

What do we have to do to get Jason off this show? He obviously doesn’t want to be there. He looks bored out of his mind the majority of the time and never does anything to take risks with the songs he picks. No way do I think Brooke was going to win, but she sure as heck deserved to stay longer than Jason! While we’re at it, so did Carly and especially Michael. In fact, why was Jason even in the top 24?

The wrong people getting sent home, that is what is bringing down the ratings. I for one am beginning to wonder if it even matters who I vote for anymore.

Dawn, he didn’t even have the sense to at least look at Brooke singing, never mind look sympathetic for her sorrow. His gaze just skipped over the audience like a stone thrown on a pond, while he just beamed.

Makes me wanna puke, I tell ya.

If this guy ends up in the finale, it will be the death of this show.

I thought there was a strong possibility of all the males making the top four, based on fan base.

Now I’m going to sit back and see if there is an all male top three.

By Justin

April 30, 2008 11:07 PM | Link to this

OK GUYS, are some GREAT reasons why Jason should be out, and why you should VOTE like crazy for Syesha. Yeah, Rodney, I’m talkin’ to you too.

  1. 3 girls have been eliminated in a row. 4 in a row is devastating, so don’t let it happen.

  2. Jason’s been overpraised all season, while Syesha has been underpraised. So vote for the one with the most obvious talent. Ahem.

  3. If Jason stays, there will be 3 guys left and that is sooo boring. We need DIVERSITY!!

  4. If Jason comes in 3rd, not only does that mean he came in higher than Daughtry, but he’s coming in the same place as melinda, kimberley, vonzell, elliot, etc. You cannot possibly tell me he’s up in that league.

  5. If he makes top 3, then we are forced to listen to 3 performances by him, which is completely dull. Also he gets probably to pick a song he has done all season, which could catapult him into the finals if he sings ‘Hallelujah’.

  6. If he makes top 3, fans will vote harder.

  7. He has gotten more and more “invisible” and doesn’t seem to want the title. So send him home!

By Rasta

First of all, y’all think Jason should be empathetic for Brooke when y’all are happy to her finally leave too. Secondly, if the top 3 were all guys, it would be diverse because they are totally different singers. And finally, I am a woman and I would not find it sexist at all if it were a top male finale.

I honestly don’t think Jason knows how bad he is. I think he really does believe he can sing which is tragic self-delusion, which is apparently shared with his giggling fans. He will sell CDs only to them and then they’ll move on to next years heartthrob. If he leaves next week, we’ll have a solid final three which will be the best three, for my money, since Season 2 with Ruben, Clay and Kimberly. Three actually good singers who can all perform. Otherwise, it will be a travesty on the level of a Daughtry.

Broke, I just don’t understand you, Rodney. I actually started out liking her but that faded very fast. She had a one octave, very single style talent that was neither interesting or good. But it was her pout, her inability to gracefully take criticism, and the constant crying that finally nailed the coffin shut. If Syesha had gone before Broke, that would have been unfair. IMHO.

Again, this whole show is about popularity and not talent. Last night the two most talented were in jeopardy while the three least talented were safe. Syesha has by far the best voice and yet she has been in trouble several times. I think that young girls must be the group that votes the most. The Idol is picked by kids, not adults.

Mom had 2 comments during the show last night that kinda made me laugh.

When Natasha Bedingfield was singing, Mom pointed out(so to speak) that you could see her nipples through her blouse. After that, the camera never got close enough or stayed in just face shots so I can’t confirm or deny it.

After Neil Diamond sang, Mom said What was that!!!! I told her that it was Jason 40 years from now.

I was reading mj’s blog about the implication that Syesha and Brooke were bottom 2. mj believes this was not the case and it’s possible that Jason was declared safe early as a sort of apology for Paula’s gaffe. In other words, Jason WAS safe but he may have had the second lowest number of votes. She also mentions, as has Rodney and Mike, that Ryan never declared Syesha and Brooke as the “bottom two”.

Let me get this right..I think.. America’s Next Top Dancer? not sure but thats going to be the next show..too bad its not on during AI, it certainly would draw more viewers and would be fresher(Ryan Randy Paula Simon has played out.boring and not funny at all)..its not all the time you get to see folks literally slide across the floor on their head.spinning on their hands and contorting their bodies like rubber bands..beats the hell out of Yawn singers(the guy with the dreds yawnnn! and he’s still there). Neil Diamond..hes peformance was so good I continued chatting on the phone never really heard a word he sang until it was over..Brooke, my goodness what a fuss you made(all that crying and balling..you would have thought somebody died! She ought to thank her lucky stars she was in the top 8 out 100,000 other contestants many who sounded far better than her that never even got the chance to show case their true talents. Just because you cant sing a certain type genre of music dont mean you can shine on some other type of music. AI is bull. Not everyone can do the beatles, mariah carey, neil diamond(please give me a break)J Lo?(whatever)Diana Ross and Dolly Parton was best left out..only they can sing their songs and make it believeable. Syeasha..big shocker..thought you were gone girl(suprise the heck outta me)..guess that lil sassy second song won her some votes..she wont beat either david though. Please send goldie locks with the dreads home. David Cook seemed more humble to me last night..hes won me back(no smugging last nite) David A..good runner up. winner by a mile. David Cook..get AI out of the way and make room for some reallll entertainment..Dancing on your Head! now thats an attention grabber and takes reallll talent and skills! Try dancing and spinning on your head if you think it aint nothing!

Good morning! Boy, D, if that is true, it sure makes me feel better about things. If Jason really had the second fewest votes, yes, he was safe. Very clever. This is opening my eyes a bit about the way things may be working. It makes total sense and surely added another layer of suspense. However, how cruel to put Syesha through that if she wasn’t in the bottom two. It wasn’t said, but they knew most people would assume it. Wow.

By Deirdre

Let me correct what I said earlier. mj ‘implies’ (not believes) that it’s possible that Jason may have been the second lowest vote getter. Nobody knows for sure because they don’t give us vote totals. This is based on Ryan never calling Syesha or Brooke ‘bottom 2’.

But then we start getting into conspiracy theories and y’all know what I think of those!

Once again, I am proud of myself, watched an hour show in less than 10 minutes - and most of that was going through the commercials time! I saw most of the group sing - UGH! Can this group not harmonize or sing together at all? Train Wreck! I saw the Ford commercial - kinda cute in its message, but not one of the best ones this year.

Then Jason is safe right out of the gate? Man, someone was feeling sorry for him! He wants to go home, just let him!!!

I am not upset about Boohoo being gone. It was beyond her time. I am looking forward to next week. I think I am going to check out Deidre’s link and see if I can pick a few good songs…

D, I know it is “implied,” but it seems to make perfect sense to me. I just about lost it when they said Jason was safe. I cannot help but think all of our “adult” calls helped Syesha come through this week.

Up until a couple weeks ago I liked Jason. It was only the past 2 or 3 weeks that his performances had really stunk. And maybe that fan base is what is still keeping him afloat. But in reality Brooke should had been off way before now. And the guys had it going on this year and the women didn’t. I really expected an all guy top 4 after the top 12 with only Syesha in the top 5. I did expect Jason to go before Michael, but I expect several others to go before Michael as well. The top 3 to me were Michael and the 2 Davids.

I was hoping Screaming Syesha and her trunk full of wigs would be sent packing. She is two shades worse than horrible. Brooke will do okay, as will the other other hot blonde Cristy Lee, if they go country which they probably will. The only route to go is either really rock or country. Look at Underwood, she has sold more records than most idols combined. You have winners now with no record contracts. Syesha and the litel midget David are about as original as stale bread; save some money on airfare and send them both home together. She may have to check her wigs though, she must have 100 of those goofy looking things.

Ok, I went through the list. Going on the assumption that every song on the list has been approved, I have picked 4 songs for each contestant. I based my picks on their style and what I thought they might pick, based on past performances. I also put a little of my own ideas and thoughts into it. I have to say, I really wanted to include some joke songs….like who is going to sing a song by the Sex Pistols on American Idol? HUGE KUDOS to the one who does!!!

Jason - Hey Jude (Beatles), California Dreamin’ (Mamas & Papas), Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison), Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding)

David A. - Just the way you are (Billy Joel), American Pie (Don McLean), The Sounds of Silence (Simon/ Garfunkle), Fire & Rain (James Taylor)

Syesha - Proud Mary (CCR, but performed like Tina), Chain of Fools (Aretha), You’ve got a friend (Carol King), You can’t hurry love (Supremes)

David C. - I walk the line (Cash), No Woman, No Cry (Marley), Suspicious Minds (Elvis), Sunday Bloody Sunday (U2), Superstition (Stevie Wonder)

Ok, so I picked 5 for David Cook. I like him best anyways, hee hee.

wow lotsa comments out there today! sorry i couldn’t join you guys last night…

not much to say that hasn’t already been said… i’m sorry jason isn’t gone, but despite some of the negativity shown towards brooke, i think she’ll have a decent career ahead as a singer-songwriter; she’s DEFINITELY not a “pop star” — even if her vocals were better, i doubt she’d have been a “pop star” because of her personality .. but a la’ Carole King, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, i think she’ll do all right and have a small loyal following. i like her. couldn’t tell you exactly why. but i do. shrug

but jason…. jason is boring… jason is BORED … jason is … no…. actually it’s more about what jason isn’t … he isn’t that good, he isn’t that entertaining, he isn’t interested, he isn’t trying, he isn’t even, imho, very likeable! pretty eyes. whooopeee. his demeanor on the stage, as pointed out, while others are performing or whatever … is … well … i find it rude! i started out thinking he might be interesting and fun, but he’s just … boring.

Deirdre and linny - I reluctantly agree that Jason has no range. He also has no social skills. Why does that kid always come walking out on stage looking like Ryan’s going to backhand him? And who dresses him? Those stupid looking jackets look like “Members Only” or “Garanimals”.

Carri…THAT’s funny!!! Garanimals!! you are SOOOOooooo right! I’m still chuckling on that one! To clarify, I originally thought Jason would do quite well, being unique yada yada. The only problem is, as has been said about him and some others — if you are a “one trick pony” you’ll remain in the traveling carnival … you have to be versatile and talented and clever to make it to the Big Top. And I absolutely Agree. Archie is NOT all that interesting either. And with his voice changing… no telling where he will end up… too old for Disney, and nothing to offer adults!

Good Morning to One and All!!!!! Hope all of you are doing well.

I have just finished reading all the posts and find some of them funny, some serious and some just plain ridiculous.

DawnH: I did hear Caddy and Dallas this morning talking about Carly being on their show tomorrow. I will definitely be listening. BTW, have you entered the Double Your Paycheck contest yet? If not, you and everyone else, need to. Who knows, your name just may be called and your paycheck would be doubled.

Now on to Idol. I too, was disapppointed in the results last night, but am certainly not going to do any bashing. It is what it is. The young ladies have cast their votes for Jason and it appears it is working in his favor. We adults can hopefully counter attack those votes by casting ours for DC.

I have never heard or seen that an Idol has to come from the projects, have bad teeth and is an unwed mother (we all know to whom these comments were directed to), but she DOES have talent and that made the fans vote for her. So you need to accept that and get over it. There are alot of artists that had a bad start in life and because of it, they have turned the bad into good. And here, I am not just talking of artists or stars. Alot of common folks have done the very same thing, and in doing that, I give them the upmost respect. Anytime you can turn a bad situtation around, regardless of what it is, and make something good of it, makes you a special person in my book.

Lara: Like your song choices. I will review the list later on and try to compile my list and get them posted. I like doing this to see how close and right I can be.

Looking forward to next week.

Carri…LOL!! We are not fans of Archie around here! I read something somewhere that the stylist said they were working hard to improve his look but it was an uphill battle. Archie’s voice isn’t all that good either. I said yesterday that I found his ‘foggy voice’ to be inexpressive and almost atonal with a low hum under everything he sings.

As for Jason’s social skills…I was floored last night when he actually answered Ryan’s question about Simon’s comment with what amounted to almost a full paragraph. That’s the most I’ve heard him speak the whole season. I wonder if he memorized something to say.

Sara, country music is not a dumping ground for people who can’t sing pop, let alone people who have very little talent. Carrie Underwood has sold a huge number of albums because she can sing. Neither Brooke nor Kristy Lee have an ounce of the talent of a Carrie Underwood.

I think sharon, you are reading more into Emily’s comments than she meant… a LOT of people are bashing Brooke because she’s one of those people who see “good” and try to BE “good” … instead of going wild, she went “mild” … and there is NOTHING wrong with that. I think Emily’s point is that she should not be bashed for her “sweetness” any more than ‘tasia should be bashed for her baby momma attitude and background. I’d be willing to bet that she was trying to say NOT that she’s better, but that she’s certainly not the opposite either. There Really ARE people who are like Brooke out there in the world. Not many, i’ll give you that. But there ARE some.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

May 1, 2008 11:55 AM | Link to this

LOL Russ… it’s just a “descriptive” term … and ‘tasia is a good example of it. She’s a single mom struggling to raise her baby without the “baby daddy” … it’s NOT my term, it’s common usage, apparently … and most women I know and have observed in that position have a certain attitude about what they’ll do and what they won’t; i’m not making judgments whether it’s good or bad, because like with most things, it’s both! and in between too. So… it’s just a term that elicits a mental image.

why should that kill you? did it make you think something negative? i didn’t mean it or express it as a negative. Just as different from Brooke’s “Sweet girl attitude”.

you got a problem with that? huh? do ya?

~¿@
