6/13: Katharine McPhee on Neutrogena, Taylor Hicks on Regis doing Grease
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Katharine McPhee is going all infomercial on us, just like Paula Abdul. She is selling Neutrogena skinID, a personalized acne solution that claims to beat proActiv. (Did McPhee ever have anything but perfect skin on “Idol”). You can check her out here. Click on her face to see the commercial.
Watching her, it’s still fair to say she is the prettiest gal ever to finish in the top 12 on “American Idol.” And she’s carved out quite a (non-singing) career outside of “Idol” so far.
-MJ provided the clip of Taylor Hicks doing “Beauty School Dropout” on “Live With Regis & Kelly” yesterday. I can’t seem to embed it so here is the link.
Taylor sounds great, but he doesn’t do it with quite that glinty-eyed sarcasm that Frankie Avalon pulls off so well in the film.
-Carrie Underwood’s first seven singles have gone to No. 1 on the Mediabase airplay charts. (One of her singles “Don’t Forget To Remember Me” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard country charts.) “Last Name” is the latest success. Clearly, Mediabase is not counting non-official singles like her “I’ll Stand By You.”
Have a great weekend everybody!

Taylor was terrible. He sounded terrible, he looked terrible, and the Jonas Brothers fans are boycotting him for calling them retarded and trying to grab a young male fan’s butt. Taylor Hicks is a talentless jerk.

Sandy — You really need to get a life, since you have no humor whatsoever. Taylor was hamming it up and having a good time.
By the way, Taylor sounded great and looked awesome in the role as Teen Angel.

I really wish Katharine would do more with singing. It’s obvious that she still does sing, as you’ll see her around singing, but she has such a great voice and I don’t think she is showing yet. With someone with a voice like hers, she should be working on becoming the next big thing (she could eventually be like the next Mariah, Christina, really)… but only acting/doing comemercialized things isn’t going to ever do that. I’d like to see a mix of the both more.

Gotta say something, flats. In the same paragraph where you are asking for us to ‘pull’ for YOUR team, you throw yet ANOTHER little dig at linny about Zach Johnson. In my opinion, this makes you one of two things: stupid or a totally azzh*le. Take your pick…either one is ok with me.

Hope all you fathers has a great day yesterday and got bunches of Home Depot gift cards. I say that because that’s what hubby always wants.
Well it’s Monday and another week is lurking in front of me. Already been at the office for an hour. Got to be better than last week.
Harm: Congratulations on the upcoming event of the birth of your first grandchild. What a blessing that will be. I know because I have six (12 to 26) and four greats (1 to 9).

Deirdra and Lara: Glad you both had a great weekend with your sons and dad. I spent my weekend with my dad. He had never been to Longhorn’s so I took him there and he enjoyed it. It’s always a special time when you can spend it family. Having lost a husband, mother and two sisters, I do cherish that time with family.

Menana — I understand where you’re coming from! I’m blessed to have only lost one person that close to me, my Mom, but it makes me that much more aware of how important family is over any and every thing else. I didn’t get to go see my Dad, he’s in Tampa, but my sisters both live there, so i am certain he was taken care of! I called him friday and talked to him so that he could go off with the gals on sunday without worrying about my call, LOL. Then two of my three came home and spent some time with their dad — not much, he doesn’t like a big fuss…
anywho, hope everyone’s Dad’s Day was good, check ya’ later!

LOL i think we ALL have that problem Menana!!! I think i’m overall a pretty fair-minded, open-minded person — sometimes naively so — to the chagrin and even anger of other people at times — i honestly try to look at both sides of an issue and while i may lean to one side or the other, i try to respect my opponent’s views.
but SOMEtimes … being this way will come back like a whiplash and slap you smack in the face … sometimes it even leaves scars!! like lost friends, misunderstandings, even downright hatred because someone mistakes your attempt to be fair as an attack on THEM instead.
but overall, i’m happy with who and what i am, and intend to stick it out no matter WHAT (or who) tries to change that!

Glad to hear we all had a nice weekend.
This blog gets people in trouble sometimes because it’s hard to realize that something you’ve said can be taken in different ways. You KNOW what you meant but someone else might apply an entirely different tone to it and be offended.
Tone is difficult when we’re just communicating by written word.

that’s true in any ‘chat’ whether via blogs, forums, or chatrooms, “Tone is difficult when we’re just communicating by written word.” — could not say it better!

I too, try to always respect others as I would want them to respect me. I try to live by the Golden Rule and do unto others as they would do unto me. Being a PK (preachers kid) growing up, that was one thing my parents tried to instill in us kids. Usually I try not to say anything in a negative way if I think it would hurt somesone’s feelings. But then again, I have became more verbal as I have gotten older, but still try to watch what I say. Hurting one’s feelings is just not my thing and if I do, I will certainly apologize, whether it be here, at work, home or other places. And I do have to bite my tongue alot. I vent mostly when I am by myself. That way I can’t get into trouble. You know the saying, “Be careful what you say. Once said, you can’t take it back.”

My problem is not so much saying something that might hurt someone but responding to something someone else has said that I perceive a rude, nasty or demeaning.
For example, someone may say something that I recognize as rude but other people might not understand the context of what was said, then I respond, and people wonder why I’m so angry. I need to stop doing that because it is a total waste of time and energy and other people start thinking of me as some kind of b*tch! :-)

Here’s a little story right out the mouth of a child:
Title: Shirley and Marcy
A mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school by himself. He didn’t want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.
She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn’t notice her. The neighbor said that since she was up early with her toddler, it would be a good way to get some excercise as well, so she agreed. The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She followed him for a whole week.
As Timmy and his little friend walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, his friend noticed the same lady was following then as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, ” Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week?” “do you know her?”. Timmy nonchalantly replied, “Yeah, I know who she is.” The little girl said, ” Well, who is she?”.
“That’s just Shirley Goodnest,” Timmy replied, “and her daughter Marcy.”
“Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us?”
“Well,” Timmy explained, “every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, cuz she worries about me so much. Aad in the Psalm, it says, “Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life”, so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it!”
May Shirley Goodnest and Marcy be with you today and always.
I know you smiled! I sure did when I read this.
Sorry this was so long, but thought it was worth repeating.
