6/26: Audition cities for season eight
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The eight audition cities for season eight will not include Atlanta, not a surprise. Atlanta auditions actually didn’t generate that many top contestants last year.
This year, it’s mostly cities never tried before by “Idol.” Three are in homage to recent winners and runners up: Phoenix, for Jordin Sparks and Brooke White; Kansas City, near David Cook’s hometown; and Salt Lake City, where David Archuleta is from.
San Juan, Puerto Rico is definitely a new one and perhaps we’ll find a hot Latino singer there. Jacksonville, Fla. and Louisville, Ky. are two new cities, I think. A couple of cities they have tried before: San Francisco and East Rutherford, N.J. (that’s the Meadowlands, which is in shooting distance of New York City). First-round auditions from in July and August. Usually, the later rounds are done in September and October.
Despite rumors they’d push back the age limit to 14, that is not the case. The ‘Idol” press release says it’s still 16 to 28 as of July 15, 2008.
Your thoughts?
I have to finish up a story about Dukesfest, the “Dukes of Hazzard” festival at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend. Will add on to this blog entry in a couple of hours.

Thanks Rodney — it will be interesting to see if the auditions remain as big a deal as the past or if we will start to see a falling off … Puerto Rico should be an interesting audition spot, but i am not sure THESE judges are ready for anything different, like a latin singer, for example…they can barely stand something as “different” as country music!

Puerto Rico, should be a good city for an audition. Let us hear how Dukesfest went, you can never go wrong with the Dukes of Hazard.

No LA this year kind of surprises me but, LA is so entertainment oriented that they don’t get excited about Idol as much as the rest of the country.
My sympathies on Dukefest.

Deirdre, isn’t a poor attitude towards anything Dukes of Hazard related considered blasphemy in Georgia?

Dukes of Hazard was never my thing, linny but looking at the grown up John Schneider IS a pleasant diversion. :-)

Dukes ended it’s run on TV in 1985. My boys were 4 and 1 at the time….they didn’t even know it existed. :-)
I think they’ve seen the 2005 movie however…but it was so bad that not even Jessica Simpson in skimpy clothing was enough to get them interested.
They DID like the car, however.

Woodpappy…flats is on a 3 week vacation which may or may not be jail time for whatever happened at the NASCAR race that involved the police. He’s not talking about it…but I doubt that he’s suffering all that much.

Linny, I watched SYTYCD, I’m torn between Twitch and Joshua, I believe one of them will win the whole thing!
Nada, nothing, nil, nope, still not one teensie-weensie smidgen of rain!
Rodney, I’m glad to hear that they did not lower the age on idol.

Harm, i agree… Twitch and Joshua are the best, most versatile, and best personality/performer types on the show! I think it’s 2 more weeks of partner with the same person, then they start drawing not only the dance, but who they will dance WITH…. that’s when it REALLY gets interesting, because the weakest dancers are usually weeded out by then… I’m frankly enjoying the show this year, and have for the last 2 years.
MAYBE i can go to sleep now, see you guys tomorrow!

I went out to dinner last night, so I still haven’t caught up on SYTYCD. I watched about half - and loved Twitchington! She is wearing those glasses now, and that is cute.
No Atlanta date - wonder if the AJC will send Rodney out on assignment to San Juan!? Want us to start asking for that Rodney?!

I forgot - morning blogsters!!! Deirdre - Wall-E comes out today and looks really cute!!!

Lara…I just read the review for Wall-E and the reviewer loved it. I will definitely see it at some point but I don’t think sitting in a theater full of kids on my day off is a good idea…so I’ll wait a week or two. I’m thinking about The Happening. Has anyone seen it? The reviews were so-so but it’s M. Night Shamaylan so how awful could it be?
Yeah, I know, The Village was a mess and Lady in the Water even worse but I loved Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs…..and I like his style even when the substance isn’t that good.
Plus, I’m a glutton for punishment when it comes to movies! :-) I like most of them even if they’re bad.

Morning, everyone. D, the last movie I saw was the new Indiana Jones, which I took a friend of mine to see on Father’s Day. Not my cup of tea at all, but it was worth it to see Shia LaBoef in his role as the “heir” to Jones. He was terrific and funny, too. I have never especially been a fan of his, but this won me over. Having said all that, spend your day off on another movie. I think The Happening will be good, even though reviews have not been great. You’ve already seen Sex and the City, haven’t you?

Deirdre, you sure its not the popcorn and all those previews of coming attractions????

You caught me, woodpappy! :-) I’m especially fond of the previews! I try to be careful about my popcorn intake…except when all hell is breaking loose on the blog and JT makes me some virtual popcorn to enjoy the show! :-)
harrietth…I have seen Sex and the City. It was tons of fun but I would not recommend it to any of the male species…..their heads would explode.
I’m sure that whatever I pick will be interesting.
I am also in the process of ordering a hospital bed for my mom. I had NO idea there were so many kinds.

i usually work well on 6 hours of sleep but some nights it’s more like 5 (2-7, 3-8) and then rush like crazy in the mornings — i’ve learned to have clothes, lunch, etc. all ready to go so i can fly thru rooms, picking up what i need on the way to the car, LOL

not quite so hot out there today at least, perhaps we’ll get some precip soon, and the weekend might be tolerable.
hubby surprised me with a reservation for a massage. How sweet it is!!! He said “consider it a ‘business’ expense — i can’t deal with you being cranky [translated from what he really said] right now!”
what a guy!!!
