7/2: Idols live tour starts

More “Idol” tour previews here via the LA Times in this insanely long interview with the five gals.

“We sing three songs each,” Brooke White said. “David Cook five, [David] Archuleta will sing four. I think a lot of people had the impression it was going to be a bunch of group numbers, but it’s not. We actually are going out as individual performers and doing our own set, our own music.”

Given how poorly this group did in group sings, I’m not surprised there will be more solos than usual:

I may update this with reaction from the first concert Wednesday morning or start a new blog entry. Not sure yet!

-Not to rag on “Nashville Star” some more (okay, yes, this is to rag on them some more), but how did you like them condensing each act’s second songs to 45 seconds Monday night? What was the point? Good news: two acts are being canned next week. In other words: let’s get this over with!

-Vonzell Solomon pled not guilty for concealed weapons charge at the airport. No word on her house situation, which was set for foreclosure last month.

-I met someone I play tennis with who actually went to school with Ryan Seacrest in Dunwoody High School. She said he looked a lot more dweebish in the day than he does now. She does recall he played football but not all that well, at least in her estimation.

-Eldrin Bell, Justin Guarini’s dad, injured his hand at a shooting range of a ranch of a strip club owner. Here’s the http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/2008/extramustard/06/30/derek-jeter-interview/p1_underwood.jpgdetails. Strip club owner Jack Galardi runs the Pink Pony South.

-Okay, it’s a slow day when I note that Derek Jeter likes “American Idol,” courtesy of Sports Illustrated.

SI.com: Who is your all-time favorite American Idol?

Jeter: Carrie Underwood’s pretty good. She could sing.

SI.com: Are we gonna read about you and Carrie Underwood in Page Six now?

Jeter: [Laughing and raising voice] No, no. I’ve never met her! I’ve never met her!

How come there are ads for purchasing tickets for David Archuleta as if the kid won/ Thought the tour was all the American Idols/ Anywho, if we were to see just David Archuleta, the audience would be buying a ticket to be put to sleep. Looking forward to David Cook, Carly and Michael.

Don…a kindred spirit! Cook, Smithson and Johns were my 3 favorite Idols this year.

I haven’t seen the ads you mentioned.

David Archuleta is the best voice ever in the world! HA Id rather see just him alone. Micheal Johns is odd and does a weird thing with his hand WTH is that? David A will out sell and out last the other old people that were on the show. They are old and yucky! DA for the World! :)

Oh Good Lord!!!!!!!! The teenies have struck!

Sweetie…someday you will be ‘old and yucky’, too! :-)

I didn’t buy a ticket for tour b/c I wanted to wait until David Archuleta had his solo concert. Please do not narrow down Archuleta’s fanbase to teens..I’m in my 20s and I know so many guys were like him too. Randy said he’s the best singer of Season 7 and I agree completely!

Chanel…if you’re in your 20’s then you should be taking offense at Archadorable calling the other contestants ‘old and yucky’. After all, they are in their 20’s, too!

Randy said Archie was the best singer of season 7 about 50,000 times. Not only did it get old…it turned a lot of people off! Blame Randy!

Deirdre - hang in there!

To the young people on the previous thread/blog who wanted me to know that you, too, did not kiss a girl/guy until your late teens or early 20s, kudos to you! I thought that waiting so long just to kiss someone would be incredibly rare. Congratulations to all of you who took, or are taking, your time!

I’m 40 with 3 kids and I think David is phenomenal. He is the only reason I am going to the concert. We are taking our 7 year-old daughter. So no, he doesn’t only have the support of tweens.

I’m 16 so I guess I fit into David’s “typical fan” stereotype. However I really resent people brushing off teenage fans as a negative thing. In addition, I love rock music, some of my favorite bands are 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, Daughtry, and Sugarcult. Yet David ARCHULETA was my favorite this year on Idol. We’re still talking about a singing contest right? I love rock music and David Cook was my second, however I do not find David A the least bit boring. I’ve yet to hear anything boring from him. Given, I also love John Mayer, so maybe I’m just not as narrow-minded as other people when it comes to music? Sorry, no disrespect meant. Anyway - back on topic - I’m really looking forward to the tour, I think we have one of the stronger seasons right here!

The thing is when kiddies call everybody older than David Archuleta on the show “old,” well something needs to be said. David Archuleta fans diss others and it’s ok but we can’t stick up for ourselves? Come on, they were all very talented. There’s only one reason I’m going to the tour, however, and it’s to see the one who will sing the most songs. This thread was very nice until a child with no manners came in the room…just sayin’

I won’t brush off teenage fans, unless of course they are yet again blindly following their peers or their hormones in professing their undying love for the current teen idol. I may be old and yucky, but I’ve seen this same “I’ll love him forever” routine repeat itself over and over again. If teenage fans would realize that they are blindly making the same foolish statements in defense of their teen idol that their parents and grandparents made then I would have a lot more respect on this matter for their opinions.

Well, pascalee….apparently you’re old and yucky, too!

Dawn…it’s so good to know you’re not a skank…I was worried! :-)

And Typicalfan…believe me honey, if you were 25 and somebody was calling you old and yucky…you’d be brushing them off, too! (not that I’m 25…but you get my point)

I was also shy at 17 years old. I had only kissed somewhere between 12 to 15 girls. Things didn’t pick up until spring break of my senior year. A friend and I made a bet on who could make out with the most chicks during the week. I was in the lead at 18 when we had to stop because my friend got “P” whipped and fell in love with one of them.

I know the bet sounds a little piggish but most of the girls knew about the bet. I was hitting on a chick on the beach and she actually asked me what number she was going to be.

Deirde - LOL!! No, I’ve never considered myself a skank, but I admit to being old and yucky!

WE - Not bad for a shy guy! Maybe you can give us more details about that senior spring break… and you’re not piggish! Uh, sounds like a pretty typical guy-thing to me! :)

WE…I think one of my sons went on that same spring break about 10/15 years later! :-)

WE isn’t piggish…Dawn isn’t a skank and I’m not old and yucky…well at least I’m not yucky….so BACK OFF Chillen!!!!

I’ll add my two cents worth, I didn’t like Archie then and I don’t like him now(no particular reason) It is everyones right to their personal preferences, no one needs to justify why they like or dislike something.

I don’t like bananas(hate),chocolate(tolerable),ice cream(shocking).I don’t have a sweet tooth at all. The point is: Everyone doesn’t like the same things.

When I say I don’t like Archie, it is not a personal attack against him,it just means that I preferred other singers over him. Who knows, if I were to meet Archie in person I might like him as a person, I just did not enjoy him as a singer.Once again, it comes down to personal preference.

I forgot to say Hello,so Hello.

And now Goodbye until we meet again.

Good Morning Munckins. Just think today is normally hump day, but this week it is Thursday, thank goodness for the 4th making this a short week.

Watched AGT last night and if any of you saw it, what is your opinion of the little 9 y/o boy who performed last? There was something so sad about him that brought me to tears. He just ripped my heart out. OMG…. the pole dancers were disgusting and the lady with the HUGE CHEST, was she for real? The Southern Belle cloggers were good. Made me remember when I clogged. How I miss doing that. Did it for 12 years and had a blast. Performed on HeeHaw and at the Opry several times. (Oh Oh, getting side tracked here. Sorry.) The lady with the pot bellied pig, what a joke. There were some good talent, but most was terrible.

Looks like my day is half way light, so I may be able to converse more than I did yesterday.

Have a Great Day Everyone.

Harmony! You don’t like bananas, chocolate, or ice cream! Oh, how I wish I didn’t like chocolate or ice cream - or that I was at least allergic! WOW!

Menana, didn’t see AGT. Please explain why the 9-year old affected you so, and what was the big chested lady’s talent? Thanks for tidbit about your clogging days - we had no idea we were blogging with a star!

Good morning blogsters. The week is half over and I am looking forward to the long weekend.
I did not watch AGT. But I did finish watching Nashville Star. Y’all were right, the correct person went home. Next week, 2 go home and I hope that those teenagers are one of them.

Dawn: The 9 y/o was very small for his age, but the thing that got me was the fact he is a special needs child. He is autistic (slightly). The song he performed was a ballard and he didn’t miss a word or stumble over any. The judges asked what song he would do in Vegas and he stood there for a second and then said, ” I don’t know, but will think hard about it.” Needless to say, he is going to Vegas. When it comes to childen, esp one that is a special needs, my heart just breaks for them. My daughter teaches SN in the Gwinnett County School System, and visiting her classtroom sometimes is very stressful for me. I don’t see how she can cope each day, but she is amazing with them.

Okay, are you ready for the talent of the HUGE CHESTED lady? She lifted them up and dropped them on cans to crush them, and believe me, crush them she did. I have seen large watermelons smaller than her chest. OMG, she looked so deform it was not even funny.

By DawnH

July 2, 2008 9:15 AM | Link to this

Menana, thanks for the explanation. I can see how the 9-year old would be sad. I, too, have a special place for children, especially those with special needs - and animals. As for the big chested lady’s talent, too funny. I must say that if I had that talent, I would keep it to myself or just share it with all of my redneck friends, but certainly not with all of America! LOL!!

Menana, what was it Hasselhoff said to the big-chested woman? Something like, “if you’d been on Baywatch, we’d have lasted 16 seasons,” or something like that. And the little boy was precious. He sang “Ben.” What did you think of the girl with the guitar who sang “I Can’t Make You Love Me?” Sharon told her she seemed so sad.

the two (ahem) ladies who wanted to demonstrate “what can be done with a pole” … well … um … PUHLEEZE, i don’t think after that that i want to know!!!

and what is with Atlanta — no other city did they show male strippers, and from atlanta, they showed two — TWO — who were DEFINITE “wannabees” and then, after teasing us with commercial spots, the FIVE hunks who danced, they didn’t show hardly ANYTHING. What-tha-hay?!!!

AGT was at least fun to watch - and yes, that lil autistic boy was precious. the cloggers were VERY good, really tight on the choreography, i just wish the 31 year old teacher/mentor wasn’t dancing with the teenagers, it’s a little creepy to me, LOL… I mean, what’s she going to do if they dance as a group for another 10 years? she’ll be in her 40s…

i’m just SAYIN’…

She did seem sad, harrietth — she said her dad “left the family” but i could never decide if that meant he walked out on them, or if he perhaps passed away. But she DID seem awfully sad … i got the impression it was walking out, and she wanted to hear from him… wanted his approval once again… you know how kids tend to feel that THEY could have done something to save a marriage (and of course it’s never really THEIR fault!)

harrietth - DH did make the comment that if she had been on Baywatch, they would have listed longer than 11 years.

The blonde was pretty good, but IMO, she lacked self-confidence. I too, was trying to figure out if her Dad had passed away or just up and left the family. She was just not very happy, even when they put her through.

OMG!!!!!! Those male strippers, esp the first one. He was totally into his self, and dare I say the “G” word. Was it just me or did the strippers seem mad when they didn’t go to Vegas? At least, one of them seem that way.

Oh, and I also liked the 71 y/o who did Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon”. He was awesome.

A Cardiologist died and was given an elaborate funeral. A huge heart covered in flowers stood behind the casket during the services. Following the eulogy, the heart opened and the casket rolled inside. The heart then closed, sealing the doctor in the beautiful heart. At that point, one of the mourners burst into laughter. When all eyes stared at him, he said, “I’m sorry, I was just thinking of my own funeral……..I’m a gynecologist.”

That’s when the proctologist fainted.

Maya G. from the Tryout Team here. Just wanted to let any fellow ACE YOUNG fans out there know about his gig in nearby Augusta on July 27. It’s WHDD-FM’s (a CHR/Top 40 station in Augusta) summer concert event, that also features a couple of other acts. I’ll be returning from vacationing in Puerto Rico that day, and driving straight to AUG from the airport. Call me crazy, but to see him in person again will definitely be worth it. He is inconceivably hot, and he sounds fantastic! By far, he’s my favorite male Idol ever. You can find details on the show at www.forthefansentertainment.com or WHDD’s website. Oh, and don’t forget Ace’s self-titled debut album, finally slated to drop on July 15!

Hello…no I wasn’t at the dentist THAT long. Just had stuff to do when I got home.

From what I’ve read about the Idols Tour debut last night it was very good. The top 8 did 3 songs each, Archie did 4 songs and Cookie did 5. He also announced that his brother’s tumor has stopped growing. The only bad review I read was of Ramiele…not a big surprise.

Saw the first AI concert in phxlast night….have to say, I ate crow!! All season long I couldnot wait for Kristi Lee Cook to get voted off, but, she surprised me last night….I think that next to the 2 obvious good performances by the “Davids”, she gave the best, most entertaining performance of the night!!! Chikeze was pretty good too…Ramiel, well….Yawn! OH…Carly rocked it too…So I guess there were like 4 or 5 really good performances, 4 good performances and 2 boring, put me to sleep performances….I will say that hearing Cook perform Billie Jean was well worth the cost of the tix. BTW…Michael Johns was good too! Hate to put a damper on it but Sayesha was off too…a bit off key and kinda boring…She sang 2 slow songs…would have rather heard 3 upbeat songs and enjoyed them!!!

Just an FYI
