8/7: David Archuleta seeking that “Miley touch”

No, that headline doesn’t mean David Archuleta has the hots for Miley Cyrus.

Rather, E! Online says he’s working with Rock Mafia Records, the company behind Miley’s hits “7 Things” and “See You Again.”.

Over the next two weeks, David A. will record at least two Rock Mafia-sanctioned songs that 19 Recordings and RCA Records are hoping could turn into hit singles, the source said.”

He already has a likely hit on his hands with “Crush.”

-Ryan Seacrest wants to tease Simon Cowell by putting up a billboard to countdown Cowell’s 50th birthday, according to an interview Seacrest did with Cowell’s younger brother Nick.. “That would flatter him,” Nick said. “People think he looks older than 50.”

-Yes, even the New York Times reviews the “Idols live” tour.. The reviewer was less than impressive with David Cook’s performance, which he felt was “perfunctory” while David Archuleta was “charming and impressing.” But he left the best words to Carly Smithson, the first time among all the reviews I’ve read in which she gets singled out in such a fashion. (Somehow, he didn’t even bother to mention Ramiele!)

Ms. Smithson has a pleasantly brassy voice, though she was erratic on the show. But while television might not have suited her, the stage did. Here, her three songs — Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life,” Heart’s “Crazy on You” and Cyndi Lauper’s “I Drove All Night” — were stunning. She hit the big notes. She drew the audience close through careful deployment of volume. She dramatically dropped to her knees. All in all, it felt strangely like a concert.

In Albany, the reviewer liked Smithson, Michael Johns and Kristy Lee Cook. over David Cook.

But the real star of the show was — the Show. Stage runways, multiple large projection screens, MTV-style camerawork, screaming tweens, embarrassed parents, huge arena space, AI theme song introduction to the program — it was all there and all encompassing.

Thanks for the info. I kind of like the idea of David A. and Miley ;)

Thanks, Rodney. It’s a little surprising that the NYTs felt DC’s performance was “perfunctory” while DA’s was “charming and impressing.” I never saw any real stage presence or personality with DA during AI. Maybe he is getting more comfortable while DA is just ready to move on.

Most of David’s fans don’t like the idea of David and Miley. Having followed David A and knowing what he says he is looking for in girls, I would have to say he wouldn’t date her in a million years. As far as him feeling more comfortable— he is a completely different person since AI. You should go watch some tour videos. This one from Saint Louis has more closeups http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1wujjLTeFU&feature=related, but you can go to many other nights to see more. He is getting enormous aplause every night. He also sings Angels (coming up through the stage with smoke, Apologize, and When you say You Love me— yes a ballad, but his fans love it.

I saw the Idol concert last night. I really enjoyed both David’s,Chikezie and Ramiele. From what I read in reviews Ramiele struggled on the tour, but she was really in the moment last night and peformed 3 touching numbers. One of her numbers left the entire crowd in tears!

I must have missed something. I watched the finale of AI this year and could have sworn that David Cook won this year. Why are we hearing everything in the news about David “Golly Gee Wiz” Archeletta?

David A didn’t win did he? I thought it was the older, more mature, and better singer David C. I think.

Longtime AI watcher,

We might be hearing a lot about Archuleta because he just put out a single that will on itunes tomorrow that a lot of people like, and he is getting rave reviews at the concerts.

Linda the article was NOT about Archie dating Miley, it was about Miley’s producers producing songs for Archie. Perhaps you should read a little closer? I felt it was quite clear when Rodney said “No, that headline doesn’t mean David Archuleta has the hots for Miley Cyrus. … Rather, E! Online says he’s working with Rock Mafia Records, the company behind Miley’s hits “7 Things” and “See You Again.”.”

in any event, i don’t wish the youngster any ill will by any means, more power to him.

However I DO agree that we sure are hearing a LOT about young Mr. Archuletta and not a danged thing about Mr. Cook, and wonder why that is so.

If I were about to audition for AI and found out the winner was not getting the attention, I might think twice about trusting the AI folks to follow through were I to be a winner, too. Could there be a correlation? There’s been a lot of “expose” material about AI in the last couple of years; Taylor SEEMED not to be getting much support, Cookie SEEMS not to be getting much support … not that I believe everything i read, but … again, it’s a thought …

Looking forward with some trepidation to tonights SYTYCD results show — any of the four could win, but for dancing ability, it’s hard to say which should win — while i think Katee is the best dancer — when choreographed — her solos are somewhat boring to me, all so similar. On the contrary for Twitch and Joshua, while their style is always the same, their interpretations are always new and fresh. I feel even Courtney has better SOLOs than Katee, but she is by no means as good a dancer overall.

Using the solos as a factor, and since all 4 are very good at their choreographed roles overall, I’d but them in the order (1) Joshua (2) Twitch (3) Katee (4) Courtney. Making the solos LESS important, I’d put Joshua-Katee-Twitch-Courtney probably.

We’ll see! Twitch is a HUGE fan favorite. And it appears that both Mary Murphy AND Nigel Lythgoe may be dancing tonight if I read MJ’s blog right. now THAT will be interesting. I could care LESS about the Jonas Brothers (JoBros?) performing, however. I’m frankly quite TIRED of the over-promoting that those boys are getting. They’re ok. But they’re not all THAT imho.

Linny,

I was replying about the Miley and David comment Jtesla made, not the article. I should have put his/her name on it so it would be clear.

I don’t know why, but I have heard tons about Cook. I think he is getting lots of attention.

Regarding “So you think you can dance”, I agree with what someone said about Katie being the best dancer, but after seeing Joshua again and realizing how incredible he is given that he is not trained, we would be happy with either one.

A blonde and a brunette both board an elevator and push the buttons for their respective floors. On the next floor, the door opens and a businessman wearing a black suit boards the elevator. It’s evident that the man has dandruff problems, because it can be seen on the shoulder of his suit. Two floors later the man gets off, and the two women remain. When the door closes the brunette says, “Someone should give that guy some Head & Shoulders.”

The blonde then responds, “How do you give shoulders?”

Any thing David Archuleta sings will be awasome. He is an angel from God for all to see and hear. With a huge fan base world wide. Jest waiting in patient to run out and buy is first single crush. After they buy that they are going to want more asap.

Perspective…it’s all in your perspective!

Thanks for all the supportive comments on the previous thread. Hubby took a look at the place and mom had him measuring. We put a deposit down and she should be settled in by the end of the month. Also ordered a little electric wheelchair for her. She was practicing on one at the store and really liked it. There is a light at the end of my tunnel!!!!

Re too much Archie…the kid’s got a song coming out…give him a break. Cookie will be flying high soon enough.

David A is in the press because he just released a new single to critical acclaim and is impressing audiences each night on the Idol tour. David C is working on his album and is also getting great concert reviews in the press. Exposure in the media ebbs and flows for all artists according to what they are doing. It’s called the music business.

sunshine, your post is appreciated —except for the last sentence. that came across as a little condescending. We are all quite aware of the ebb and flow — in fact we are DISCUSSING the ebb and flow with regard to two particular newcomers TO that very business. I don’t get why you archie supporters out there feel you have to jump our cases just because we are not panting breathlessly about archie. Our comments are valid, usually somewhat intelligent, and meant for discussion purposes — not as absolute truths or dicta from some higher authority. We love it when you join in — we really don’t love it when you act holier-than-thou.

Maybe DA stage presence is much better now that he isn’t under alot of stress, pressure, and doesn’t have to compete. I also think he is getting alot of press and DC is on the back burner. But, watch out, that will change.

I totally agree that the JoBros are getting alot of promos. I guess if I were 45 - 50 years younger, I may feel different about them. I guess tonight when they perform on SYTYCD, I will mute the sound. Think two hours is alittle long for tonight’s show, so I may just watch the last 30 minutes to see who wins.

As for Archie - oh, for Pete’s sake! Enough already. Shouldn’t all the children be back in school this week?

Deirdre, it is wonderful that things are working out with your mom. She is probably going to be much happier too in that she doesn’t feel stressed or guilty about you taking care of her. Just one thought - I had a client who was also a great friend a few years ago (she passed away). She would call and we would chat about life, work, etc. I told her I could finally see “the light at the end of the tunnel”. She told me it was the train coming! She was right.

Nana actually tonights show for the most part may be quite entertaining — there will be a number of guest dancers, previous contestants not only from this year but years past, too. I did see both Hok and Dominic from last year will be there, and i believe i may have seen Benji’s name — i wish Heidi and Lacey would come back to visit too, and i believe MJ also reported that both Mary and Nigel will be performing, in addition to the usual finale-result-night highlights — 2 hours may be a bit long, but i’d tivo/dvr it and race thru the boring parts, because i have a feeling there will be lots of GOOD stuff too! for those who like to watch dance, that is, LOL!

JT — obviously you know i can’t keep my “eyes” off you! no way i’d ignore you on purpose ~¿@

Yeah, I will probably watch all of SYTYCD. I would like to see Nigel and Mary dance. Just won’t watch the JoBros.

D: I am so proud of you for having the courage to do what you do with your Mom. In the near future I may be facing the same fate with my Dad. This week he has started using a walker per dr’s orders and he does not like that one itoa. But, as I have told him if it keeps him from falling, he should use it. I have three brothers (one within 10 minites of Dad) and I get no help from them what so ever. They figure that since I’m the only daughter, Dad is my responsibility. Don’t get me wrong, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for Dad. AT 93, he is very stubborn and set in his ways. But oh how I love that man, inspite of the whippings he gave me.

It’s a great concert and if you have the chance go. They are all good. Very different. You will be amazed at Cook’s performance skills and David Archuleta’s voice live will let you know why Simon and others were so impressed finale night.

I feel bad in a way D — One of my two sisters actually moved in with Dad (well it benefited her too, b/c her husband had died the year before) when Momma died — the other sister is within 30 minutes of the house too. I’m 500 miles away, so they’ve been the ones “there for” both Momma and Dad over the last few years — although, they know I will BE there within 12 hours if i get a call, less if i’ve got a bag already packed. I feel guilty about it sometimes — strangely enough they made ME executrix in their wills — probably because i AM not so close in proximity — i know my sisters should — and will — get recompensed for their time and efforts that i won’t be, because I’ll be sure they ARE, LOL, one way or another.

but yeah — Nana, you need to let those big ol’ boys know they need to get off their duff and chip in some TIME and energy!

i was the show in long island and i thought chikzie was great for a show opening, michael john and cristy was great as well. I thought that carly should sang better on tv then in the show. i thought david a rocked if you could hear over the screaming and although david a sang better than david c. i am glad david c won because he was born to be an entertainer and knew how to take charge of the show. People got loud in the 2nd part of the show more than the first. I think the first half would have been better and louder if they sang songs people knew instead of singing what they wanted to.

OK - looking at the AJC online and this is a “lead” under a picture … i’m NOT sure it makes sense! help?

Cee-Lo performs Monday with Danger Mouse as Gnarls Barkley and Jack Johnson plays himself Wednesday to headline a huge week in music.

ok my question is this… well, first, I get that Cee-Lo performes with Danger Mouse. But is it Danger Mouse as Gnarls Barkley? or is “Gnarls Barkley and Jack Johnson” one person who plays himself? if Jack Johnson is the only one playing himself, then what is the Gnarls Barkley reference?

i’m confused!!!!

By Deirdre

August 7, 2008 4:59 PM | Link to this

You’re confused???? I have no idea who Cee-Lo is!

My hubby is in the same boat as you, linny. His parents lived just outside NYC, his brother and sister live minutes away from them. So far, their health is good…but we all know the time is coming. It frustrates him that they have to take care of stuff and he can’t help. Although he is the guy in the family who keeps everyone from killing each other! That’s something. Having a voice of reason when everyone else is screaming can be a really good thing.

Gnarls Barkley consists of Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo. So the two of them together perform as Gnarls Barkley. I won’t even go into what Jack Johnson may be doing. That’s just not worded right. Maybe AJC should re-think some of those changes.

D & Linny: believe me I have tried to get my brothers to help. My oldest brother will help once in awhile. Since Mom passed in January, I have missed two weekends going to LaGrange. Have even gone down during the week (2 1/2 hr drive)after I get home from work to see about him, visit awhile and then drive home, and work the next day. I don’t regret doing this for him. I consider what he has done for me and it all works out. You do what you have to.

Nana you’re a jewel — and thank you for those kind words too!

Linny just types as she thinks, so yep, she can be a bit long-winded. she also type verrrrrrrrry fast, LOL (yeah, i’m talking in 3rd person, what’s it to ya?)

grin

SYTYCD WooooooHooooooo Go Joshua!!!! how about it guys, those two untrained STREET dancers making the top two? I mean ALLLLL RIIIIIGHT!!!! and what a nice surprise for Katee to win the money for top gal. And Mary Murphy dancing WHEW!!!! if she wasn’t screaming, she’d be one of the hotties!!! at least so my hubby says, LOL. I agree… the judges SHOULD have to perform at least once each season every one of them! who needs guest performers when you have such fine talent on hand every week!?!

ok i’m through being long-winded —

oh wait…AGT wow what a group they put through — i only disagreed with about maybe 10 that DID go through, and some of those ONLY because it knocked others i liked better out. The guy who’s vocal cords were severed and who can sing again; the popper who’d never performed for ANYone (xclusive); the other R&B singer; and the contortionist … if teh 8 wild cards we get to vote in, those 4 are worthy IMHO (if you don’t know, one contestant got hurt and had to withdraw, so the public gets to choose from 8 “wild card” acts who gets to go - voting at the website)

see ya!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and prayers! The situation has not changed any,my aunt and uncle are totally devestated and the whole rest of the family fears this is going to be the case for awhile( we think they are going to be unable to make the decision that needs to be made)Miracles do happen on occasion.

Deirdre, You and mom will probably be happy with your decision, it is just going to take some time to get used to.

I was very happy with SYTYCD, Joshua was my pick, Twitch was graceful in his defeat.( I was worried about how he would handle it) I was a little surprised that Katee wasn’t second.( Linny went four for four on her predictions. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. When I switched over to watch AGT ,I got pretty disappointed, I did not agree so much with the judges! The wild card is not much help either, most of the wildcard picks were the ones I wanted to go through in the first place!

We did not get rain, but I don’t care because it actually cooled off.
