9/2: David Cook to be on Oprah season debut
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
David Cook is set to appear on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” September 8 for her season debut in an Olympic theme. His song ‘Time of My Life” was used on NBC during the Opening Ceremonies and he sings it here.
My TV colleague Maureen Ryan covered the taping..
-Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” video is available here.. Arista won’t let it be embedded so you’ll have to link to it. It definitely has a feminist feel to it.
-Jordin Sparks has the top “Idol” download with “One Step At a Time,” which now has sold 545K, according to Idol Chatter.. “No Air” is up to 2.43 million. Her single moves up to No. 7 on the top 40 charts and has a solid chance of going top 5, making it her third. She has now sold more than 5 million downloads.
David Archuleta’s “Crush” is moving up on the top 40 chart to 26, leapfrogging Daughtry’s “What About Now” at No. 27 (which is still moving up and has sold 309K in downloads) and a slipping David Cook “Time of My Life” at No. 28 (with 843K total in download sales). “Crush” slips to 22 from 6 on download sales but is up to 304K.
Carrie Underwood’s “Just a Dream” is moving closer to top 10 and is now up to No. 12. The download is at No. 59 and has sold 136K. Bucky Covington is knocking on the door of the top 20 again with “I’ll Walk” holding at No. 21. Kellie Pickler is jammed at No. 28 at “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” but like Bucky is still gaining airplay.
Hudson’s “Spotlight” is at No. 21 on the urban charts with a pickup in airplay. The single grew 43% last week to 95 for a total of 92K.

Good Morning Blogesters. Hope you all had a very pleasant night.
I will be sure to tape Oprah Monday just to see David. Don’t want to miss him.
Running late this morning, since I’m headed to the hospital for some tests.
Have a safe trip to the office and I will catch up after I get to work.

Morning!
IMO, Sarah Palin hit a home run last night.
Rodney, thanks for all the little tidbits. I’m glad to hear that Archie is doing so well and I think Cookie might have a chance to do even better as soon as he gets to stop singing that coronation song.
We had dinner up in Dunwoody last night with our son. We see Mr Hollywood more than we see Mr Computer lately. It was a great way to spend the evening.

Good morning all. Rodney, thank you for the information. It is great to be able to keep up with what is happening in the careers of the idols.
I personally am glad both conventions are almost over. Too much hype. I know, it is the one opportunity for each party to celebrate itself and have a good time doing it, but it is overkill. I thought Palin did well, too, D. Now begins the political ads, which I absolutely hate. That is my least favorite thing about recent elections—the constant putting down and nasty talk about one’s opponent. It gets on my nerves that they believe we cannot make up our minds without such persuasive techniques. Insult to intelligent people, IMO.
ok, harrietth, it is mighty early in the morning to be climbing on the soapbox.
D, I loved your description of your soapbox yesterday, so I just had to have one of my own!

Thanks for the updates - I’ll have to watch Oprah that day just to see David Cooke! I’ve quit watching the Oprah show for the most part.
Good luck with your tests Nana.

harrietth…I’m about to head out for the day(yes, my new found freedom has gone to my head) but I agree with you on the conventions. Their purpose is to rally the faithful. Now, the debates will begin and we’ll get to meet the candidates without speech writers and pundits cautioning them on their every word. I think what a candidate has to say during the debates is much more important than what he/she says during a speech.
Y’all have a good day!

Morning — thanks Rodney, tho’ i may just have to youtube the oprah appearance…
i too thought Mrs. Palin was great last night. Heard someone on the radio talking .. said that “all the talking heads can find to say about her (in a negative way i assume) was that she had a gasp! speechwriter!
ok, looks like it’s gonna be a busy day — they’ve added a second “boss” to my responsibilities, so i may see you guys less and less, LOL.
and about that soap box … you guys best be glad i’m going to be busy; it’s the sort of things we’ll be hearing and seeing soon that make me craaaaaaaazeeeeee and i tend to crawl up on a soapbox and pontificate, just ask the old-timers!
LOL
peace!

well, i watched ALL 8 hours (minus commercials and certain acts which i just could not make myself watch completely) of AGT last night to catch up… talk about your couch potato! well actually, we started about 7, and in between stuff, grilled steaks, made a huge wonderful salad, roasted potatoes, etc. and had a leisurely quiet dinner, just hubby and i — overall, from cooking to cleaning up, dinner was about 5 hours long, and that’s about how long the AGT performances went, LOL. it was sort of like background entertainment, you might say.
I have to say, Donald B. is my favorite to win, Eli (isn’t that the name of the piano player last night?), Neil, and Queen Emily are among my favorites. I love the little girl, hubby calls her a new “America’s Sweetheart” — probably the first valid one since Shirley Temple! — I thought SickStep was very good, and am frankly glad that, at least so far, they’re the only large group to make it through, but i am HOPING the Tappin’ Dads make it. What a role model for fathers everywhere!!! Night Two was my least favorite set of results — and i absolutely am appalled that they but through the ZuperStars instead of BBDC (the only other large dance crew that I thought worthy). I so hope that the Simply Strings guys make it, as well. The final night had the most pure talent, IMHO. And of course we won’t know the results till Tuesday, aaaaaargh!
nuff said from me, i’m just rambling anyway, since i’ve only had the opportunity to post a handful of times since early last week!!!
peace!

Good morning everyone.

Hubby said, after watching Palin, “she’s a real person!” And i think that’s what is going to be the strongest advantage of having her on the ticket — many people can identify with her!

linny, I am right there with you on the AGT favorites. Donald Braswell blew me away last night with his powerful rendition of “The Impossible Dream.” I think he is better than even he realizes. Sharon was right about him needing to loosen up, but for goodness’ sake, he just came back from the brink of elimination. I love Neil and Eli too, but Donald won my heart.

Whew, what a morning!! Finally finished at the hospital and now am at work. I do not like tests, especially when needles are involved.
Saw only the last hour of AGT last night. Went out with family to celebrate my granddaughter’s 21st birthday. Donald Braswell literally blew me away with the Impossible Dream. I could picture and hear Jim Nabors singing it. I had goose bumps on me. What a performance. He is the one to beat IMHO. My second choice would be Eli Mattson. Hate it that we have to wait until next Tuesday to see the results. Gosh darn it!!!!
I was able to see and hear a small bit of Gov. Palin’s speech this morning. I liked the part where she stated thwe difference between a soccer mom and pit bull was lipstick. She really appears to be down to earth ans as far as I can tell, being the veep candidate has not gone to her head,. I will have to agree with D and harrietth about the mudslinging starting now. I wished there would be one election that the mudslinging would not occur, but that will probably never happen in my lifetime. I will never understand why the need to dig up nasty and hurtful things.
Lara you should have been here yesterday. Some of us had a very interesting conversation going on and I forgot that it was joke day. Thanks for yours today.
Just finished lunch, so I guess I better do some work now since I have only been here for about 45 minutes.
Have a great afternoon to all.

Nana, hope your tests all turned out ok and that the rest of your day is good.
Yesterday was fun, wasn’t it? The conversation did not get interrupted or side-tracked by an unpleasant element, as it does often times when we discuss a controversial subject. I hate it when we can’t have an intelligent discussion without that element.

I second linny’s amens. Yesterday was very pleasant. I kept waiting for us to have someone interrupt, but maybe everyone was in agreement for a change. See, miracles do happen.
Thanks harrietth. I won’t know anything until I see the doctor next week. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

I read some of the conversation yesterday. I did not contribute as I did not want to upset your nice conversation….I tend to try to keep my political opinions to myself…no need to share and stir the pot. But it is always nice to have a conversation without someone going on a tirade and making it awful. Nice job.

LOL Lara, that’s sort of what I was trying to say — sometimes when i get all heated up about something, not just politics, i get …. shall we say “wordy” … but what was nice was even though not all of us are on the same page politically, there wasn’t any back-stabbing, name-calling ugliness — just conversation, sometimes bordering on “debate” but never with rancor or ill-will!!! and no butt-in-skies who felt they just HAD to “change the subject” rudely, LOL [coff coff]

I think our conversation was more than just political yesterday. I felt that it was more on personal interest and about not judging nor blaming parents on errors that our children make. Lara - you should have joined in and let us know how you felt. Your comments would have certainly been welcome. I think that since the conversation was not about AL, we were left on our own, which was really nice. Mature adults having a mature conversation.

Lara, we are very different, but on the same page about respecting the others’ opinions and views. That is what was nice about yesterday. It was not really that political, but rather about social issues as much as anything. We even confessed some things about our 1960s sensibilities. Anyway, I could not be more different in my political views from most here on the blog, but still it was fun. Respect is the key word in these discussions—respect for another opinon, and respect for our fellow bloggers as human beings with feelings. And, we have to make room for the occasional soapbox speech, too!

Nana, that, and the fact that some people were apparently not around a computer to make snide remarks regardless of the topic at hand… it seems there are a few who just canNOT resist butting in with irrelevant, disrespectful and annoying interruptions.
oops…did i say that in my out-loud voice?!?

Hello Everyone, I haven’t been able to blog because I have to go to the hospital everyday, my mother had knee replacement surgery last Friday which was a success. The great news is that she will not require as much care as we first thought when she comes home. Also for the first time in her life she will not be voting for the Democratic candidate, she’s voting for McCain/Palin. YAY
I pretty much go along the same lines as far as AGT goes,I do like the family group that did the umbrella song alot.can not remember their name.
Deirdre enjoy your new found freedom, you have earned it.

Everything Oprah touches turns to gold. I don’t think David C. needs the help though.
